CROAKER feeding FRENZY like I've NEVER seen! EVERYTHING got BIT!
Well, yeah! This was about as good as it gets for a yellowfin croaker bite. It didn't last long though - only about 1 hour. The were biting the jerkbait, the swimbait, the underspin, casting jig. It was ALL getting bit. I didn't get bit on every cast of course, but I would say that I got at least a bite on about 75% of all my casts. It was crazy awesome! Come along as I slam the yellowfin croaker in the surf.

1-HOUR before WORK [unedited] KAYAK fishing CHALLENGE!

DISCLOSURE: This is a slow-burn video. I wanted to do a 1-hour before-work challenge on the kayak to show how much footage can and does get edited out in order to make a 15 to 40-minute action packed video that is easy to consume for you, the viewer. The prior session I had but absolute fire, so I figured this session could/would be about the same. Well, it wasn't. It was much slower. However, ...

I recently fished (and had success) in a spot that I don't often fish. Not because I rarely go there or that it's hard to get to, but because it's 50 yards away from a spot that produces very often - almost like clockwork. I decided to fish here to show that you can catch fish in the most [un]likely spots - as long as you know (for the most part) the optimal conditions for a particular spot and...

    Do you fish the incoming tide? Or does it matter in the morning?

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday 3 дні тому

      I focus less on tide and more on where bait is/birds diving. If the birds were diving 100yds down the beach, I would go there and fish. BUT, in general, the incoming tide allows the predatory fish and birds to push the bait closer to shore and vise versa.

    • @StartFishingToday

      I have a chest harness, but the elastic straps deteriorate quickly when exposed regularly to water (especially saltwater). It also gets in the way when paddling. I am going to try the shoulder cam (as I do with surf fishing) in the near future. That will have better audio and multiple angles. Thanks for watching!

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday 8 днів тому

      In California, fishing licenses are required to fish anywhere except for public piers (in general). Check the regs before you fish anywhere. All estuaries are no-fishing zones. Places such as the ocean side of PCH, which you see in this video, require the possession of a valid fishing license. Regarding the bolsa chica inlet, the moment you go past the first piling under the bride (towards the estuary), that is MPA (MLPA) and 100% illegal to fish. Fines and up to 2 years of fishing license revocation in the state of CA.

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday 13 днів тому

      The biggest thing to think about when fishing any spot with structure (ie jetty, pilings, submerged rock piles, etc) is that you have to be ready and willing to get stuck and lose your tackle...that's where the fish are. This is why I have invested so much time and effort into making my own lures. I get stuck more than you see, but it's easier to fish these spots when you're prepared to lose $0.10 for a swimbait or sub $1 for a jerkbait, instead of $1+ per swimbait retail or up to $25 per jerkbait. For the surf right now, gotta find the bait fish near the shore. All the fish are only in select areas right now - SUPER keyed-in on bait and the bite window is really tight. Keep at it!!!

      Okay, so there is a general phrase that is common in the world - You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time, but you can please most of the people most of the time. If I make it too short and leave out details, someone is going to be frustrated. If I go into detail, people like you complain bc you have SOOO many more important things to do with your time than watch me explain something that most will appreciate. Did it help solve your issue? If no, bummer. If yes, quitcha bitchin and be thankful! You can always move the scroll bar left or right to go back or forward to speed it up. However, from an analytics perspective, on average, that actually takes 21% more time than simply allowing the video to play and watching all the way through. I didn't make you watch. UA-cam didn't make you watch. You chose to watch. Why? Becasue you had an issue and you were hoping this video helped solve it. Again, if it helped, be effing thankful and go on with your life! Do you ever surf fish during the later morning/afternoon? I only have time during these hours and I was wondering if you had any suggestions where the beach isn't too crowded at that time during this time of the year....

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday 25 днів тому

      Yes. Nothing changes. It's all about timing (tide, current, for example) and presentation. The same applies to fishing anywhere. Fish may bite in the mornign one week, but you could see the bite slow down as the week goes on when you're fishing at the same time every day. That could be because the tides are roughly an hour later each day and therefore the water level, waves, speed of current, location of bait fish are shifting with the conditions. So where you catch fish Sunday at 7am (for example) may not bite until 10 or 11am on Wednesday or Thursday. When you have moving water (ie ocean, rivers, streams, etc), conditions are different every day and you just have to anticipate that it's going to happen. During those late morning/early afternoon times before covid, there was NOBODY fishing. Post covid, there are a LOT more anglers out due to remote working ability, but there are PLENTY of places to fish EVERYWHERE during those times.

    • @ham5765

    I’m confused how using very light weight to cast can produce fish. Are you launching this 3/4 oz weight way out there ?

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday 25 днів тому

      It's a very specific combination of quality rod, reel, proper size line and lure. Tide, understanding/reading the conditions and knowing where fish SHOULD be is hugely important. When I fish, eat lure has a target fish. If I'm casting a casting a 1/2 - 1oz casting jig, I'm targeting croaker. If I'm casting a 3" swimbait, I'm targeting halibut (with perch and croaker as possibilities), if 4 - 4.5" jerkbait, primary is halibut, but perch and croaker will bite. I'll give each spot 10-15 minutes. If nothing, I move on. If the fish I'm targeting with a particular lure/jig don't bite right away, I move. I just have that much confidence in the lures and colors I'm throwing. If they're there, there gonna bite. Oh, and yes. I can launch the 3/4oz jig about 50yds with this particular PENN setup. I got it specifically for this fishing.

    Am I just doing everything wrong ? Using heavier weights to cast out farther , 3oz dropper loop with 2 grubs , 2oz lead head with swim bait , 2-3oz jigs , 2.82oz jerk bait that is similar to a lucky craft but casts way farther , I cannot catch anything to save my life.

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday 25 днів тому

      I cannot say whether you're doing everything wrong. That's not for me to determine. There are SOOO many factors that go into catching fish. If there's no bait in the water, you'll struggle locating/catching fish. If there is too much bait, fish are going to feed fast, furious, and then the bite is over. Time of year. Water temps. Current. Natural structure in the surf zone from waves and current. Basically, I was in your same position when I first started. Ffwd many years and 100's of 1,000s of cast later, I still get skunked, but it's a lot more seldom. You just figure it out over LONG periods of time fishing the same areas day in and day out. I'm fortunate to where I get to fish about 340 days per year. That is the BIGGEST part of my success.

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday Місяць тому

      Tides run off moon phases and alternate every other week. Tides low 1 week mean high Tides the following. Swell/waves have a lot to do with moving the sand around. 1 spot could look mid-tide one week and super low ride the next if larger waves come in and move the sand in. I catch fish here on ALL tides. I focus on presentation at any particular location. Tide doesn't determine WHERE I fish, but it does determine what I use. This footage wasn't from yesterday, but it's not old either. It's recent.

    I’ve been out the last 7 days , same spots , same type of techniques. No bites. I’m convinced everything is gone. And only people that film stuff get anything

      Just keep casting. It will happen for you soon! If you don't see finbait boiling around, there are still fish, just in much fewer quantities - making ithe catching few and far between.

    Awesome video! Two questions, where is a good place to park for a quick hour session and what is a good scent option to add to my plastics?

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday Місяць тому

      The best place to park is the closest you can get to where you want to fish... For scent, it really doesn't matter as long as it smells like something edible - even hot sauce from a taco place will work. It just needs to be enough to convince the fish that the lure is something to eat.

    • @StartFishingToday
      @StartFishingToday Місяць тому

      Excellent! For the pigments at Barlow's, I would recommend SKUs 407032-901 and 407032-931. I also use SKUs 407038-923 and 407038-922.
