Agree with Josh on the quality in numbers point. There was absolutely nothing stopping us from signing the two players we needed. We had three months. Fair enough we tried for Zubimendi and he loves Sociedad, but go for someone else. Why take risks. Be prepared. Always feels like we’re a couple short every year. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched numerous podcasts and fans say “If only we did that little bit more”… We should not still have to ask that question in 2024. God forbid anything happens to Virgil or Grav, then we’re absolutely kicking ourselves for not covering those two positions. It’s unnecessary.
Name a player who is after Zubi then? It’s easy to say “just go for the next one” but who is the next one, it’s a position that isn’t fruitful of top class available players
Jeez you make it sound like Zubimendi was the only 6 in world football that fits the Slot style of football, and that’s just not true at all is it. Stop making excuses for the lack of ambition from the owners. They do this all the time. Every year we’re always one or two short, and then we’re all asking the same question if only they did that little bit more. Wieffer at Brighton could have done a job for us, so could Alan Varela. Richard Rios had a cheap release clause. So did Andre who we wanted in the past and he joined Wolves. These are all players that would have helped us in that position, but rather than back the new manager, we have once again kicked the can down the road. That doesn’t help anyone. Truth of the matter is the club just didn’t want to spend the money, no matter what their PR fluff says, and fans like you fall for it constantly every year.
@@Maroon498 I agree in previous years not replacing Gini when he left, and looking at other areas too, but if we want a player of his quality, all those you have listed are they really going to start for us? Zubi would. If he’s not available, should we go for a second string? We have a stacked midfield, if they aren’t world class and will push to start, why bother. I don’t fall for it, they could spend more for sure, but let’s assess l and see what Arne can get out of the players this season.
@@isabellelocke8927 Stacked midfield? If Grav gets an injury we are stuck playing young Morton who just spent a year in the championship, or veteran Endo who Slot clearly doesn’t fancy playing that much. We got 44 players off the books in the last 12 months. We are far from stacked. We need quality in numbers so that when injuries occur, we have backup quality to cover ourselves or rotate when needed, so that the standard doesn’t drop. Every year is a repeat of the last, and it culminates in us not spending enough in the market. I am so fed up of the excuses being made for the owners lack of caring and ambition. Big up Josh, such a breath of fresh air and interesting perspective, probably closer to how Edwards or Hughes would think, not afraid to speak honestly about declining players like Robertson, even though they're well liked personally and protected by others
We're in exactly where we left off with Klopp and thats a VERY GOOD POINT!!! We WERE QUAD CHASING!! AND Slot is MORE CONTROLLED so we shouldnt encounter the tiredness or the injury concerns rear its head! We should be MORE considered in attack and in defence, our players wont be so tired etc Arse is the actual REAL test! And i expect to beat them COMFORTABLY! I expect the way we play to be able to nullify, neutralise AND CONTROL quite comfortably! We have the identity of intensity BUT WE NOW HAVE MORE CONTROL!!! We will OUT PACE OUT INTENSITY Arse! No matter what Arsenal fans think of their squad etc! If we go into January neck and neck or touching City! I believe Slot will be proving people wrong and the noise surrounding Slot will be immense!
Great show lads. Good luck with your book Neil. Roll on the weekend...another win and clean sheet is the only acceptable result against Notts Forest. YNWA
Great show, pre-ordered the book on Amazon. I said 85-95 for points before the panel had their say. I reckon that's where everyone is thinking at this moment. Other thing I haven't heard so much is that the team are all a year more experienced. So while Slot is clearly coaching and tweaking the tactics, you have guys like Dom, MacA and Gravenberch with a year together, young lads with more experience etc. That should generate 2-3 more wins than last year and push 82 over 90pts. Fingers crossed and enjoy the ride!
Completely agree with Mo about the knife edge that is planning for a healthy and satisfied squad. Virgil has been relatively healthy for us and still is in great form, surely he deserves better than a year by year contract.
26:37s "There could be a situation where you're playing a Premier League game with £700k per week sat on the bench." We're already there! On 1st September 2024, Liverpool had Chiesa in the stands (£150k) and Jones in the sick bay (£15k) add that £165k to the £545k "sitting on the bench" and we are already at £715k. Man Utd subs: Quansah (£15k), Bradley (£10k), Elliott (£40k), Endo (£50k), Gakpo (£120k), Gomez (£85k), Kelleher (£10k), Nunez (£140k) and Tsimikas (£75k). That wage bill is a bigger one than many care to realize. It will affect contracts.
It's three games in! Have this conversation after ten with a few CL games thrown in. Far too early to go over the top. We will have a tricky period and it's how Arne and the players handle it that's when to judge the progress and our realistic expectations. Up the mighty Reds.
Great start and we pass the eye test. Playing the football I wanted to see. The big test is coming now with all these tough CL games. The squad will be tested.
Great show again lads! For me Klopp always used to pick teams game by game, I do think this season to be successful Slot will need to gamble on a few starting line ups. Saturday I would start Gomez and Nunez for instance, haven’t played for internationals and an opportunity to rest Robertson and Jota for Milan 👍🏻
My Barca mate told me that Barca had to offload a wage for financial reasons. Ilkay wasn't excactly their first choise, but Man City offered that they could wait another year on repaying owed money if City got back Gundogan on a free this year.
I would resign Matip on a rolling 12 month deal as cover. Before his injury last season I would argue he played his best football of his Liverpool career! Konate and Gomez lack durability and regularly pick up injuries, Quansah is a real longterm talent but he is still finding his feet. Matip is a no brainer as a short term option as a free agent!
9:34 Disagree with that. The drop off from Gravenberch & Macca to Endo & Jones is huge. Not even just in quality, but style. The latter simply cant do what the former does in terms of passing and breaking lines.
For their quality and in the interests of continuity, you keep Salah and VVD for another two seasons. Virgil hit the top level later in his career so arguably he's had less physically and mentally demanding games meaning he might have more in the tank. For religious and professional reasons, Salah is t total and an absolute fitness freak so his career could be prolonged without a doubt. If both left next summer, we'd drop levels
Mo’s right if you look at Lance Armstrong FC’s fixtures they have such an easy run. I called this before the season started I think they will win their first 12 league fixtures.
For me it’s a terrible indictment of the previous manager and his team that we’ve allowed our three best players to be in this situation contract wise. I’d give the current lads a bit of leeway as this is a situation they’ve inherited. Hopefully by Christmas we will have sorted this mess out and hopefully by next summer we can get back to being best in class when it comes to transfers.
@Dormiens_Custodibus perfect storm; klopp announces he's leaving mid season = players won't sign until they see who the new manager is Summer, new manager and staff appointed. Trent and VVD concentrating on euros. Then the transfer window and now another international break. I think the deals will get done after the break, the season starts here
Don't get the negativity around Salah. Salah is a once in a generation player. He's in great shape and is still beating the rest of the team on the bleep test at 33. He's been pretty much injury free for years in a team that was basically an in/out medical ward. He has 3 goals and 3 assists in 3 games. He will show us whether he's washed the rest of the season but I think it's not as simple as "your over 30 you're done". Understand we don't want him on mad wages but if MO SALAH Wants to keep breaking records at Liverpool. Let's let him!
A serious club will pay what's needed to retain the best talent the market has to offer. If we let any of the three go, we're not a serious club. Whilst not an out and out FSG-hater who thinks there are far worse owners to have, I think the club can do a _lot_ better by way of ownership.
A) Man City sold Gundogan last year and Alverez this year, are they not a serious club? B) Never judge a negotiation before it's finished C) it's not always about money
Sorry I'm not sure what you mean by it's not the liverpool way to pay stars well? I'm pretty sure we paid extremely well compared to the market in our most successful periods
Have to say a large majority of Liverpool fans really disrespect Joe Gomez and his ability. He could easily replace Van Dijk and be as good if not better?. He was the best CB in the league if not Europe not that long ago before his ACL. He should be 2nd choice for the left or Virgil’s partner 🤔
Not sure where Neil's enthusiasm for Jones is coming from, I think he's close to being not gpod enough. I appreciate Cuttis passion but we're past the level
I'd offer them both 2 year extensions on the same money only Trent due to age should get a wage rise but its poor from the club to let this happen this contract talk could de rail our season soon all 3 will be talking to other clubs ffs and their minds won't be fully focused on us
So basically the argument seems to be if Sarah wants 600k a,week we should then given the other two 600k a week That's not sustainable for us I don't think. Also I think it's absolutely wishful thinking mo doesn't want a rise
The last three seasons Mo,s started with a bang and scored loads but the second half of the season wasn't that great because he played so much football so managing his games 10 to 15 pcent should keep him fresh in the second half and especially the run in where we will need his goals because we missed them . We've got to keep him though and Trent obviously. I dont think Gomes would be more susceptible in Slots team because they play out from the back at all the whole team is more stable defensively and Klopps football leaves defenders a lot more exposed when we got counter attacked so Gomes will do better in Slots team. YNWA
Get tired of people saying give salah what he wants. Can understand this being sad on a fan chat. But in a respected podcast like this it doesn't seem right.
Absolutely, apparently we're paying him £400k a week inclusive of bonuses. That is a colossal wage and he's 32 years old. I'm not saying don't extend but it needs to be thought about very carefully.
Factor in a fee for a replacement such as 80M for Gordan, then a wage of 200k a week. Mo starts looking cheap. If his legs fall off after 18months into a 3 year deal we will still get a sell on fee. No brainer for me. Match his current contract for another 3 years
Gents you are going way too soon on the new manager we’re 3 games in ffs. Tottenham were top of the league 8/9 games in last season then they got worked out. Let’s let the season breathe
There is no way Mo is getting paid what he’s getting paid at Liverpool at another top club. He couldn’t get that money before his last extensions so he wont be getting it now
PSG, Man City, Real Madrid would take Virg and Mo in a heart beat and pay them better than what they get now, you are absolutely clueless, both are still way better in thier respective positions than players at those clubs on big wages, you think Mo being a Muslim will not get offered mega wages by PSG, Man City even Newcastle who are owned by Arabs?
@@NaimAhmed-l7w they would have done that ages ago if that were the case. They’re not going to pay that now at this stage of his career. He isn’t getting it at all a top club
I am keeping it real, all players want to stay at this point the club and the way it’s run is the problem.. look at the way they are treating players who have their all over the yrs … fsg are trying to lower the expectations of fan from challenging titles to top 4 … their model thrives in challenging top 4 and expect challenging out of Magic like how klopp and they get all credit as the best businessman around .. they don’t have the ambition.. if you don’t sign any players bar chiesa which is not a lot in todays market and hesitate to give contracts to these three it’s pure lack of ambition and zero interest for Liverpool… the faster the people from Liverpool see this the better for club ..some fans scared and get ptsd from hicks and gilletes era .. I know fsg saved the club.. thanks for the memories but like players/ managers they give you good memories same can be applied for owners .. thanks for the memories but time to go
Too many players is never a problem, come on, total nonsense. Chelsea literally had one player want out, while ordering a takeaway menus worth of players, you page the wages players will come. Liverpool don't want to pay wages for people to sit.
a 23 year old killa on the wages salah is demanding gets you 28+ league goals a season: basically the title. something salah doesn't, and hasn't for 4 years now. salah at this age just doesn't offer the value fsg are looking for. he can leave in the summer. thanks for the service, but publically discussing contracts is not the liverpool way. great player, but very unclassy.
Do an audio ASMR book with actual Neil narrating and put it on this channel!!!! and i guarantee the subs will go through the roof!!!! Add in the obligatory dry mouth sounds LOL or after youve had a pint XDDD
R.e salah; why would you accept same contract or less when you can treble your wages? Fsg need to get their hands in their pockets, 2 year deal for him and virg with an option for a third and a pay RISE
Virg and Mo should get 2 more years with 1 more year as an opt and a small bump in base salary with the same performance bonuses they have now. Trent give the lad 5 year with a bigger bump in basesalary so he still top 3 earners..
Every top club is praying LFC do the most stupidest of stupid acts and let Mo and Virg walk, SO THEY CAN SNAP EITHER OR BOTH UP IN A HEART BEAT and offer them 2-3 year contracts on 350k and more a week, you think Mo being a Muslim that Arab owned clubs like Psg and Man City even Newcastle would not want Mo? You only move on players that if they face you they will not terrorise you, you think if LFC had to face Mo and Virg these two would not terrorise this current LFC team? you think Robertson or Tsmikas could stop Mo, you lot are absolute clowns playing exactly into our rivals hands if you want these pair moved on, and who cares what they get paid too may LFC fans actin like the wages coming out their pockets, i am pretty sure FSG multi billionaires who purchased LFC for £300 mill and now LFC worth £4.3B can more than afford to pay a Mo and Virg what they deserve for 2-3 seasons more. Can see why FSG purchased LFC they realised the majority fanbase are just as tight arses as they are. Step Toe and Son most have been the most popular show back in the day in Liverpool.
@wpracy so let's think about this....the tightest owners in world football..... spent a fortune on a back up keeper?! 🤣 is he replacing Adrian? There not going to put themselves in the same situation of vvd/trent/salah so they'll let him go in the summer

Factor in a fee for a replacement such as 80M for Gordan, then a wage of 200k a week. Mo starts looking cheap. If his legs fall off after 18months into a 3 year deal we will still get a sell on fee. No brainer for me. Match his current contract for another 3 years
Also what do you mean panicked? Highly paid analysts scoured Europe and said ONLY Martin Zubimendi improves us? Sure
As much as I love Trent, Mo and Virgil are more crucial to Liverpool. They are more important...
Who did Josh say he was listening to, Ted who?
Ted Knutson statsbomb guy

This mainoo chat is wrong. He will have a ton of minutes
I know fsg saved the club.. thanks for the memories but like players/ managers they give you good memories same can be applied for owners .. thanks for the memories but time to go
3 games lad calm down
Too many players is never a problem, come on, total nonsense.
Can't see Mo or Virgil sitting on benches for too long. They'll move on as soon as they don't feel wanted.
Do an audio ASMR book with actual Neil narrating and put it on this channel!!!! and i guarantee the subs will go through the roof!!!! Add in the obligatory dry mouth sounds LOL or after youve had a pint XDDD
😂
1:10:33 arsenal are crap
You guys literally don't have a clue... I'm sorry, did any of you guys ever play top football?
Mainoo is better than Curtis Jones

He can be better in the europa league then.😂🤣😂
Your troll muppit who supports a shit team
But as a lifelong Liverpool fan kobi is absolutely top class
In my eyes he's clearly out grown man utd

Is Mac Allister injured?
Yes. Expected back next week. Nothing serious
Abductor pain should be back for next game
What's the cosmic scouse guy going on about? They've signed the new keeper to replace alisson who'll leave at the end of this season
Alisson isn’t leaving next season mate
@wpracy so let's think about this....the tightest owners in world football..... spent a fortune on a back up keeper?! 🤣 is he replacing Adrian? There not going to put themselves in the same situation of vvd/trent/salah so they'll let him go in the summer
How did Mo get this gig - is it a charity thing or something? No offence but he sounds like an imposter
