  • Is the JTAC going to change the way campaigns are waged in BMS?
    Some idiosyncrasies and unimplemented features still, and lots to learn on my part.
    only certain friendly units are JTAC qualified - read the manual
    00:00 Thoughts on JTAC in BMS
    01:22 Fence in
    03:33 Contact JTAC & check in
    04:52 Receive Echo Point/ Keyhole & Gameplan
    06:23 Review 9-line format + confusion about the "offset direction" and FAH- manual clarifies this as airspace a given direction off the line connecting the Initial Point to the Echo Point - which you are free to fly thru on your way to Final Attack Heading 247 degrees magnetic. THIS IS TO AVOID OVERFLYING FRIENDLIES (OR OTHER HAZARDS LIKE ARTILLERY SHELLS)
    08:48 Receive 9-line
    10:50 Create offset aimpoint - an Initial Point reference point visible in the HMCS
    14:01 Call IN over I.P. & cleared HOT & drop 1st bomb on the wrong truck
    16:22 Request JTAC lase target & laser SPOT track
    17:52 Cleared HOT for 2nd attack - JTAC buddy lases my bomb from underneath cloud
    19:00 Shack - good effect, JTAC requests reattack with GUNS
    21:12 1st gun run
    22:21 IN heading 200 for 2nd gun run
    24:42 CONTACT friendly infantry on TGP and place markpoint
    26:04 Visual CONTACT w/ friendlies - dispense chaff to boost morale

    "offset right" means that you stay to the right of the attack heading, regardless of heading imagine a line from you to the target, and stay to the right of it. this is usually to avoid confliction with other aircraft or artillery.
    In Type 3 you're not cleared hot, you're cleared to engage, which means you can do multiple attacks until the target is destroyed. Cleared hot means you're cleared to release 1 weapon/1 attack.

    You have a great voice and demeanor for educational videos / walkthroughs like this.. it's especially nice that you're not afraid to say something doesn't make sense / need to re-read the training materials, etc. And the trigger-warning popup for negative-G maneuvers, lol.
    Anyway I'm glad I watched this vid before trying this myself .. the "skipped leading zeros" on the radio call would probably confuse the hell out of me.

    Vid description explains the offset and final attack heading the JTAC asks you to use. However starting and offset arc at 6 miles from target and still maneuvering back to release a bomb in time … tough?

    Good video, thank for sharing.
    One question regarding using NVG to spot the laser beam on the ground (minute 14:55):
    I use now the 4.37.3, my NVG is very bright around the cockpit which make spotting details very hard for me.
    In your video, when you engaged NVG, initial picture on the MFD was very bright and you made few `steps` to make it less bright. Then you could see the LASER spot flashing on the ground.
    How did you do that ?

    • @Wheelman_PCAS

      Just punching keys - voice recognition isn’t my friend. But FoxVox and Voice Attack do work very well.
      I do have a 4-position HOTAS switch I use for common AWACS calls which is indispensable for me…

    The JTAC has to give you an elev for en E-Point. E Point is normally the TGT location line 6.

    • @Wheelman_PCAS
      @Wheelman_PCAS  2 роки тому

      Hi fritz so you’re saying I shouldn’t arbitrarily pick the elevation when it’s not given by the JTAC?

      @@Wheelman_PCAS I mean its the AI's fault, but if the E Point is your Tgt you cannot drop a guided bomb without an elevation right? #KEYBOARDWARRIORTLAK :D

    • @Wheelman_PCAS
      @Wheelman_PCAS  2 роки тому

      @@omon316 I was under the impression how it works IRL is that no elevation was required, but that an orbit somewhere off of Eco point would be given including an altitude block, then the CAS pilot would receive the target info and maybe special instructions about altitude on ingress

      @@Wheelman_PCAS Elevation is the height of the ground above or below mean sea level. Altitude is the height above the ground, depending on the Altimeter settings. for example altitude can also be defined in Flight Level at standard pressure 19,92inHg or 1013,25hpa.
      But anyway, this is really a cool video, Im just smart assing around a bit :D. And I try to a transition from DCS to BMS, but the config is really tough...

    I don't recall ever seeing individual infantry units .. is that new in 4.36?
    The nightvision goggles to see the IR pointer flashing on the MFD screen tho .. makes my head explode. I think I saw this trick before, but thought it would be fixed by now .. I mean surely irl the pointer would be visible on the TGP display, in IR modes, right?

    • @Wheelman_PCAS
      @Wheelman_PCAS  2 роки тому

      You know, the TGP image contrast between units and the terrain seems way higher now. But yes infantry was visible before.
      IR I believe is visible on the tgp in real life according to people on the BMS forum. Laser no. BMS has some graphics engine issue that makes how it displays weird… can’t recall the details
