RIP Patti Yasutake (Nurse Ogawa, 1953-2024)
Yes, that was sad.
I hadn't heard she had died. That's so sad.
@@DavetheAvatar it was August iirc
WOW 😮 I didn't know she passed!!! Oh wow RIP 🕯️😞
Oh, I hadn't heard that! 😢
The conversation in “The Pegasus” between Captain Picard and the former captain of the Pegasus… Picard already told Riker about noticing that he stood up to Captain DeSoto. Interesting reference all the way back to “Encounter at Farpoint”, during a scene shortly after Riker reconnected the saucer section and the rest of the Enterprise.
Also, this episode has always reminded me of the myth of the Philadelphia experiment.
Oh, good call, I hadn't made the Philadelphia experiment connection before, but there are a lot of similarities.
There's a universe where Cassie only watches horror movies and hates rom coms and Carly swears like a sailor.
That would be a universe I'd love to see lol. Be a hoot
Lol, or they both do.
And one in which Carly likes to violently rip open bags, to the annoyance of Cassie.
And Cassie is the one cracking her neck all the time.
The Mirror Terran Empire Cassie...I'd be down to see that!
The fabric of space time is breaking down blending the entirety of the multiverse into a singular reality.
Cassie: "KISS!!"
😂😂😂
That's her name? I've watched like, six of these videos and didn't know that. Huh.
RIP Patti Yasutake
"Marvel eat your heart out" to the multi universes?! Cassie is the GOAT!!!!
OMG when she said that... I knew then that she had graduated.....
“Pegasus” is one of my favorite episodes because it allows Jonathan Frakes to really shine and show what he can do. To me Riker is a character that if you took him out of next gen the show falls apart. I love the cast and characters but Riker is basically the bridge between all of them. He’s like that fun uncle you love seeing what type of mayhem he’s gotten himself into since you saw him last.
"The bridge"... I saw what you did there.
@@TheFinancialAdvocacyPodcast completely unintentional but I like how you think 🤣
The incident at Starfleet Academy involving Ensign Sito is a direct callback to the 5th season episode "The First Duty". Wesley Crusher was also directly involved in the attempt to cover up what really went down.
And don't forget Tom Paris from Voyager. Yes, the characters had different names, but that was the result of behind the scenes. Changing his character name meant not having to pay the writer any fees from First Duty episode.
yes its too bad she didnt watch that one
@@joeeyaura There's a lot of good ones she's missed (but she's pretty much free to track back on), I was just thinking how crazy it is she's wrapping up the series and hasn't met Troi's mother or Broccoli.
A juicy cover up, backstory, and Wesley? I think someone will be watching "The First Duty." :D
@@Emilysbrother1 she didn't even see the one where broccoli was hooked up to the holodeck with that crazy helmet??
Lower Decks ripped my guts out. In hindsight Cardassians are pretty devious, she might still be alive as a prisoner.
That was rumor has it an idea pitched by one of the episode creators but they were told no because it'd undercut the episode or something. I've stuck by "no body, no death" for thirty plus years. It would've made a fantastic DS9 episode.
In one of the alternate realities in “Parallels” Data has blue eyes. When he and Worf are in engineering talking about Geordi before going to sickbay.
Yeah, I kept looking at Cassie's face trying to tell if she noticed.
I never noticed it until you mentioned it.
I caught it too for the first time! I wish they had explained it in story…Is he more human in this universe!?!
I guess "Old Yellow Eyes Is Back" never got released in that timeline.
Interestingly, the original intention of the episode where Borg took Picard was to kill him off because Patrick Stewart wasn't happy with his role on the show and requested to be let out of it, but the writing on the episode where he was going to be written off convinced him that there could be SERIOUS writing/acting on the show and he stayed.
And also, one of the original pitches for Worf as a character had him being the alien first officer ala Spock, but someone behind the scenes was against a Klingon in that role.
So the timeline that Worf wound up in where Picard died in the Borg conflict and Worf was first officer feels like an homage to those concepts.
When Geordi was injured and Worf was talking to Data, I kept wondering if Cassie would notice that data's eyes were blue and catch on. It was very prominent and they did a number of close ups where something looked "off" about him.
I did notice his blue eyes, but didn't put it together. Thanks.
Lt. Worf in the Multiverse of Madness
Captain Picard Day is on June 16th every year.
Damn it, I missed it . . . every year so far.
@@menotyou8369 Actually, you lived through it every year so far. 😁
Is Captain Picard Day traditionally celebrated with "tea, Earl Grey, hot" and with flute music?
He's a role model.
I knew someone would beat me to it.
Lower decks is one of my favorite episodes.
Coincidentally it expands the conflict between Bajor and Cardasia which is the center piece of DS9, my favorite Trek series.
Yes lower decks! and DS9! She need to watch DS9 but not the important episodes... All episodes!
@@christianlevesque5239 and then she needs to watch Star Trek Lower Decks!
Ds9 is best series ever.
@@hippityhoppityw If you are referring to "Lower Decks" the series... She has a LOT more homework to do before she can keep up with that show... She needs complete knowledge of TOS/TAS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise...
@@christianlevesque5239 I was saying she should at least give the DS9 pilot movie a chance (the series is too tight knit to do a highlight run like TNG), but I definitely want to see her reaction to it. Also the only non-TNG series appearance of O Captain My Captain.
@Cassie, I am so happy you saw Lower Decks. The incident Captain Picard is referring to when he chews out Ensign Sito Jaxa happened on the 5th season episode "The First Duty" and centers around Wesley's time at Starfleet Academy.
Goddammit I didn't realize she hadn't watched that one, it's so good! >.
Among all the subtle differences in personnel, set decoration, uniforms and such, I noticed that Brent Spiner's contact lenses were also different in alternate realities. Sometimes normal blue human eyes, sometimes Mr. Data's trademark yellow eyes.
Actually, in real life, Brent Spiner's eyes ARE blue, so the scenes where his eyes were blue, are not contact lenses, those are his real eyes.
I noticed Data's eyes are different years later, after multiple rewatches
"this isn't like Star Trek, everything's supposed to be happy at the end of the episode" So... when are you starting Deep Space 9?
The first few minutes needs to be an uncut reaction 😢
Oof! Are we sure she's up for it?
I'll definitely watch that... but oof!
Lower decks is one of my favourite star trek episodes (of any series) because it kind of trolls the audience. It introduces a bunch of new characters, makes you care about them, and then kills one of them off! It shows that the random non regular characters who always die on away missions and nobody really cares about are real people with friends, family, relationships and ambitions.
Deep space nine is just magnificent. Reacting to that would be the best thing since sliced bread 😂.
DS9 was great, but reacting to it would be hard for her. The show get's really complicated in later seasons with the war and all, and it would be really difficult for her to just watch select episodes.
@@happyhedgehog6450 She couldn't skip episodes like she does with DS9. But if she liked the idea of Worf and Troi together...
I would love to see her reaction to Deep Space Nine but I don’t know if that’s possible since this is a show that requires to watch more than 4 episodes a season especially in the later seasons.
@happyhedgehog6450
There are plenty of one-shot episodes she could watch, but it'd be a shame bc she'd miss the narrative arc and that's what made DS9 great. That and hurting Miles O'Brien
I grew up in the 80s watching Star Trek next generation and Patrick Stewart's was so noble and honourable as Picard he was a huge role model in how the type of man I wanted to be
Lower Decks is such a cool episode too. Dan Gauthier has a role. Plus we get a character from an earlier episode making a return
The last episode, Below Decks, followed a Cardassian plot-line that would be regularly handled by Deep Space 9, which has been on the air for just over a year by this time.
Looking very forward to All Good Things... this series was sent off with class!
I've always been fascinated by the possibility of a multiverse, and in this Universe "Parallels" is in my top 3 favorite Next Generation episodes.
Deep Space Nine brings you all the Bajorans and Cardassians you can handle.
Parallels always has s special place in my heart because the day it aired where I lived it was my birthday too! As for lower decks one year when I was at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas one of the attendees was cosplaying as Sito. She really did look just like her too!!! She asked if I could take some pictures of her on the transporter set they had set up and I did. Then I asked if I could take a picture with her too. We did I told her I knew she escaped we both had a good laugh. 🖖
The beauty of science fiction is that it uses normal situations to introduce outlandish theoretical ideas through relatable characters that we grow to love. The Cassie we first met years ago wouldn't have been interested in shifting between alternate versions of our lives. But thanks to Worf she was enthusiastically running through various possible alternate realities of her life. The core of scifi is to ask 'what if'.
I will miss these episode watches when they are done!
*LOWER DECKS:* The deep relationship and life lessons between Sito Jaxa (The First Duty) and Worf makes this outstanding and heartbreaking.😢
Actually, DC did the multiverse first in 1961 with "The Flash of Two Worlds" storyline from DC Comics.
I think the Bajorans were running away, when they saw 288.000 Galaxy-class starships decloaking.
Cool TNG "Lower Decks" episode. This one might have inspired the animated series later on. I also really liked the Pegasus episode. Troy and Worf make a great couple in this Parallels episode.
The date for Captain Picard day converted is
June 16, 2370, Time: 20:11:45
Also RIP nurse ogawa. The actress just recently passed away.
Star Trek Characters do not Pass Away .... They Beam Up!
Data is so valuable to them. Beleived Worf and helped him figure things out.
But didn't give two shits about Geordi.
@@DanSmith-j8y lol
Cassie, there is no universe in which you are MrBeast; you're too conscientious.
The time when Worf thought he was about to die was a reference to the 5th season episode "Ethics" which is one of my personal favorites. Check that one out sometime!
"How did you know I was bluffing?" Maybe it was because of that cheshire cat-like smile?
Worf's victorious return from a competition soon turns into a fight for his sanity when reality keeps shifting on board the Enterprise.
"Lower Decks, Lower Decks, Lower Decks"
Spoilers!
***SPOILERS*** I love how they tie in the animated Lower Decks series with that TNG episode. It was a shocking swerve in Mariner's backstory that she looked up to Sito in the Academy, and Sito's death is the reason why Mariner has never wanted to be promoted above Ensign.
Whilst Mariner does love Starfleet, has a fascination with exploration and ship technology, and is fully willing to put her life on the line for others, she categorically does NOT want to be in a position where she has the responsibility of potentially sending someone else to their death. Staying an Ensign all those years kept her out of that position.
The Bajorans being aggressive to the federation? Ha. I missed that one last I watched this.
so many minor changes in Paralells make it great, Data changing eye colours, badges, set pieces etc.. great episode
Cassie,
Everyone is voting for The Rocketeer. It's a great movie with music by James Horner. It's a lot of fun and it takes place in the late 1930's. Also, Carly needs to join you for this one. You could make it Cassie's Popcorn Pick of the Month. (hint) 🙂
Which coincidentally also has Terry O'Quinn.
Terry O'Quinn's in that movie too ... as Howard Hughes, one of the inspirations for Tony Stark.
"The Pegasus" was written mostly because the show-runners were tired of people at conventions asking them why Starfleet doesn't use cloaking devices. Nothing like a little canonical acknowledgement to satisfy (or nowadays, enrage) the fans.
I'm so glad "Lower Decks" was included. If not for that episode, we never would have met the greatest officer to ever serve in Starfleet: *Beckett Mariner.*
You know perfectly well that the most important person in Starfleet history is Miles O'Brien.
The original Star Trek with Captain Kirk and the Star Trek , The Next Generation with Captain Picard are in my opinion the two best in the series-- I am so thankful that you are watching/reviewing these shows--BRING ON THE STAR TREK MOVIES AS WELL AS MORE SHOWS FROM THE NEXT GENERATION- GREAT STUFF
Bajorans are part of the main storyline of StarTrek Deep Space 9, a spin-off series that were already on air during the last season of the Next Generation.
RIP nurse Ogawa (Patti Yasutake)
Picard's response of "How interesting. So are we," to the Romulan captain is low-key brilliant. No matter how flimsy an excuse it sounds, the Romulan can't question it because he used it first.
Gates McFadden switched from wigs to her own hair not long before these episodes.
I believe that same is true for Marina Sirtis.
I wish Cassie had seen Cadet Sito's previous episode with Cadet Crusher - the "back story."
Sito was planned to return in season 8, but. . .
I really, really wish Cassie had also seen "Rascals!" Young Jean-Luc was played by the same actor who had played his nephew in "Family." Also, she would've loved "Disaster."
LaValle in Lower Decks is played by Dan Gauthier. He also played Lt McKay on Tour of Duty.
Parallels is a multiverse of madness. And I imagine Cassie will enjoy the beginning of the Worf/Troi romance... I've always been an imzadi shipper... and Worf belongs with...
TNG episodes that are "what the hell is going on?" really are the best. Cause and Effect, Remember Me, Parallells.
One of my favorite episodes. I love the changes in history and how they appear out of nowhere. A bad story for Worf who makes mistakes that were not his fault. Geordie also has a bad day.
"Parallels" is one of my top 5 TNG episodes. I'm so happy you reacted to it. And I loved your Marvel comment, had me laughing out loud.😂 Love you and your reactions hon. Thank you for all you do and for being you! ❤
He was the CAG (Commander of the Air Group) in JAG (Judge Advocate General).
Wow the Pegasus is so amazing
"Star Trek did it first!"
Actually, the idea of parallel dimensions where you can find every decision that has ever been made has existed in scientific theory for a long time. That's where sci-fi got the idea from. :)
Worf-Chester-Shire. hahahaha. I love you.
No PIB reaction is complete without Cassie mispronouncing a character's name 😂❤
Oh, Pegasus and the OG Lower Decks. Both so important for different reasons ..
"Lower Decks" is the best Worf episode. There are plenty of episodes that show why he's a good warrior, but this is the only one that shows why he is a good commander of officers.
I really love the comedy/ideas presented in the Parallels episode.
Hey Riker had his chance for seven years. Worf doesn't hesitate.
Cassie will (I hope) eventually watch Star Trek: PIcard ... espcially the Nepenthe episode in Season One!
But then ends up dumping her.
Van Damme in Bloodsport practiced blindfolded at the breakfast table 😂
Lower Decks genuinely one of the strongest episodes of the show. Makes me wish they had done so much more of that quality with peripheral characters.
"Star Trek did it first."
My first recollection of a multiverse concept on TV was the terrific 1963 Twilight Zone episode "The Parallel." Interesting how similar the names are.
And, of course, TOS in "Mirror Mirror" and "City on the Edge of Forever."
Parallels has made me drop a low guttural F bomb at every surprise change.😂😂
We won't go back. You don't know what it's like in our universe. The Federation's gone, the Borg is everywhere! We're one of the last ships left. Please, you've got to help us!
I’ve always wondered if that universe was the result of them not rescuing Picard at the start of season 4? Seems logical, but it was never confirmed that I remember.
"Star Trek did the multiverse before Marvel!" (I'm paraphrasing) Yes... they did! And I love that episode!
I mean this wasn't even Star Trek's first brush with the multiverse. There were episodes of TNG before this that dealt with alternate timelines and TOS introduced the Mirrorverse.
This was my favorite of their Multiverse episodes though.
Cassie, on your own you should watch STNG S5 Episode 19 "The First Duty". This is an excellent episode featuring Wesley Crusher where the Enterprise returns to Earth to help investigate an accident that killed one of Wesley's friends at Starfleet Academy. It is the first appearance of Sito Jaxa, the cute Bajoran girl who dies heroically in The Lower Decks. These are the events that Picard is pressing Ensign Sito about when he calls her into his ready room. Well worth a watch IMO.
The idea of Worf and Deanna being married is really funny if you think of them doing the traditional Klingon courtship, where he reads poetry and she tries to kill him 🤣🤣🤣
😢 I can’t believe I missed her watching my favorite episode Parallels!!😢
As soon as Cassie started racking her brain on Adm. Pressman, I actually said out loud "That's Locke".
We have met Bajorans before, but mostly not in any episodes you've watched. I can't remember if you saw any with Ensign Ro, who is also Bajoran. They've only been around since season 5, but are a major element of DS9.
22:48 If I remember correctly, he was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs after Fittzwallace retired. I could be wrong about that, but I do remember him wearing a dress uniform all the time.
Cassie, you've got to watch Deep Space Nine. It didn't get the love it deserved when it first aired, but watching it years later as an older man, I have to say its some of the finest Star Trek out there. It centers around the Bajoran/Cardassian conflict and has much more of an overall story arc than TNG. It deals with darker material as well... some of the best ethical conundrums I've ever seen on TV, and you'll fall in love with the characters. The character development of some of them is fantasic. Nog, for instance, has one of the best character arcs ever! And until you've witnessed it firsthand, you won't truly understand how epically Miles O'Brien is made to suffer in the show. 😅
Your missing out if you haven't checked out star trek deep space nine. Some the best star trek shows ever.Soo much Worf stories that will warm your heart
Can’t help seeing Terry O’Quinn (Pegasus) without thinking about John Locke from LOST, my favorite TV series of all time!
Terry has always been solid. I think John Locke was his masterpiece.
Agreed, especially in the later seasons.
I was watching CHIP’S series when I was off work for an injury and I thought it would be hilarious if someone would CGI Worf into every scene that Michael Dorn was in. I started picturing Worf as his character in every scene he was in. That would make great television! 🤣
Deep Space 9 a Crdassian space station was in orbit of Beajor when Starfleet was asked to come & help run the station, Caption Benjamin Cisco had the job of helping Beajor joining Starfleet without interfering in Beajoren internal affairs..
I suggest you take a look at DS9 starting with Season 1 Episode 1... If you do I think you will like it as much as Next Generation 😊
Sito was a warrior. You do not honor her. Sito made her choice. You want to solve puzzles and mysteries? She gave her life to protect that. She would not approve of your actions. Honor your friends. Slay your enemies. And study your... what is it, plants?
Riker killing another Riker doesn't even come close to the profoundly fucked up stuff that O'Brien goes through on Deep Space Nine
It WOULD be nice if Worf could find someone to love someday. He’s a great guy. She’d have to be smart, funny and kind; she wouldn’t necessarily have to be another Klingon either, but she’d definitely have to have an appreciation for the culture….🤔
It's too bad that Curzon fellow isn't a woman....
one of the funniest/ironic things about Star Trek... their greatest villains are ALWAYS Starfleet Admirals.
We had met the Bajorain's before, plus the seventh season of TNG was running at the same time as the second season of Deep Space Nine (which you REALLY need to watch next), and the Bajorian/Cardassian races were key figures in that series.
Worf's reaction at 10:13 when Deanna kisses will forever make me laugh no matter how many times I watch Parallels.
If you liked the relationship Worf had in Parallels... you really need to watch Deep Space Nine...
Lower Decks is one of my favorites!
You need to watch the 5th season episode “The First Duty”. This episode introduces us to Ensign Sito and helps you understand why Picard treated her the way he did in “Lower Decks”.
I like how that Pegasus opening scene calls back to the very first episode when Picard asks Riker to help his image with the families & kids. There's another episode that relates to Picard and kids, Disaster from S5, which I'm ASTOUNDED did not win the vote, but slots were limited I know. But I don't want to give spoilers. Plz watch it ;)
No, Worf's trophy isn't a swordfish, it's the 3-D version of the Klingon insignia. I love the Klingons and have that symbol tattooed on my arm.
Champaign on a first date. Worf is a hopeless romantic.
If you liked "Parallels," you should go back and watch the Original Series episode "Mirror, Mirror." That's my all-time favorite TOS episode.
I always felt that they should have brought jaxa sito back in a future episode where worf goes on a secret mission to save her and eventually brings her back so that she could perhaps either join the crew or go on to be in DS9.😔😢💔❤👏🙌🙏👍🖖🎉
Probably best to not entertain the thought of being the "Mr Beast" of another universe...
Trust me Cassie, when we saw Warf and Diana get together and in that season of TNG WE'D ALREADY SHIPPED THOSE TWO TOGETHER 😅
I think it was Robin Williams, who said "Vuja Dae" when you've never had a repeated experience :) "Captain Picard Day' will return in future media. :) "Lower Decks" is the name of a current animated Trek series. These ar three excellent Season 7 TNG episodes!
Parallels rules. Top 5 TNG episode in my book.
Really liked seeing you watch these three.
Bummer Cassie didn’t watch some of the episodes that would give a bunch of context to Parallels and Lower Decks. Season 5 was just banger after banger of episodes
That is the danger of the highlight run format. But it does mean that Cassie can now easily just watch any TNG episode when it pops up on TV now.
Lower Decks its so good than they make a whole spin off over that idea...
It's called Star Trek Lower Decks and its one of the best Nutrek ever 😍
@@chacaf22 It's THE best of Nu Trek. Maybe Picard season 3 comes close.
So happy to see you reacting to an 'anomaly' episode! Those were always my favorites. One of them.....I think it was in Season 4, had Dr. Crusher trapped in one that slowly made people on the ship vanish with nobody else remembering them. It was basically the Star Trek version of a horror story. Another one had Geordi LaForge and Ensign Ro out of phase with the rest of reality, walking around as ghosts that nobody else could see, watching their friends plan the funeral because everyone thought they were dead.
