Your kids have a great Father! Not many men are vocal about missing their kids. Being in nature is great therapy and finding that owl was a bonus! You captured some awesome shots of this magnificent bird and some incredible video of him cleaning his feathers. He was scratching really hard considering how sharp his talons are! I've never seen video of how they clean their feathers so that was fascinating! Thank you for this amazing content!

Thanks for sharing your day and the pictures. Just finishing up a month with some of my grandkids around. Couple of hikes to area high mtn lakes. Every year the experience gets more about watching them in the woods and taking pictures but less about the fishing or anything else. The joy on one little face when she spotted a little fawn is priceless. Glad you found a the owls. Look forward to the next installment.

This week in your neck of the woods has been outstanding especially once the daily Thunderstorms picked up. I hit town in between storms one of the days driven by the heat and humidity. A little theater pizza and back out. The chirping squirrel in the area I was in was not happy with an eagle that I couldn’t locate.
    Awesome Place!!!!!!!!

I see you were using a monopod this week, I never used one until this year, I find them so helpful in stabilizing the lens and relieving the weight and keeping the ISO lower, yet so much easier to maneuver than a tripod. Nice work as usual. Thanks for sharing and taking us to such amazing places! Rich

@@SteveMattheis Steve, I currently have the 24-120mm f/4.5 z lens and the 500mm f/5.6 PF lens that are being used on my Z9. I’m now wanting to add a lens that will fill the gap between the two lenses Zi know own. My choice is between the 70-200mm f/2.8 z and the 100-400mm f5.6 z lens. The 70-200 provides great low light possibilities while the 100-400 fills the gap with the reach. After watching your last video, I’m now leaning towards the 70-200mm lens. Am I making any sense???

Hey Steve, I love your videos. I was wondering how you manage your photos in terms of taking a lot of photos. Do you pick a lot from a sequence or do you pick the very best to edit and ditch the rest? I have been getting overwhelmed even from my D850 at 9fps. I'll be getting the Z9 Wednesday and I'm very excited to start creating again, but the amount of photos from 20fps almost seems scary to sort through, so I may not need to use often. Maybe for only flight sequences or fast birds. Let me know! thanks (:

I totally disagree with you on the lack of potential of the stationary owls. Especially the great gray. The framing was very cool. As well it was really animated at times and could have been fun to have. With 30 frames a second it scratching its head might had potential or some of its other antics. Anyways that' my thoughts.
