I came here because Long Beach was my old stomping grounds. I didn’t know there was a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, but now I’ve also learned there is a song about it by a very cool chick ha. Lana is Long Beach and vice versa. She gets the long magical history of Long Beach. When the old Red Cars and big black Trains and horses hauling buggies flooded Ocean Blvd. The sailors that once swarmed The Pike looking for a sweetheart. The lost Lite-A-Line 💡💡💡 where folks sat for hours trying to win against 100 other folks. Love history! 🏙️
I remember my dad taking me through there in 1966 or 67. We always went to the Pike in those days. Even though it was pretty sleazy by then, it was heaven to me.
Great vid, Jesse, as usual......but you missed the crowning glory--------THE ORIGINAL HAD NEON! How cool would that have been? Can you imagine what things looked like at night in the 30s and 40s when neon was at it's peak?
If you walk across the way from where the Jergins building used to be, you can still make out the horseshoe driveway that was once in front of the building. Find the center of that driveway and you should be lined up with the tunnel. Thanks for watching :)
I can't believe I had Lana Del rey tell me about a tunnel in my hometown that I've walked over for 25 years...LB is so cool
History is all around us, but sometimes it gets a little lost... Thanks for watching.
Lana del rey : Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd?
