    I purchased an orbifolia from planterina a few months ago! It came amazingly packaged and was in perfect condition. It looks like it even came in the same pot that yours did 😂 I would highly recommend purchasing from her!

    Planterina has amazing plants! She has the Orbifolia in the single plant and also has it in a group where you can buy 3 different types of Calatheas in small sizes. She does have her own greenhouse where the grow what they sell.

    Love this video! I actually live in TN and I’m waiting on Tennessee Tropicals to restock this plant so I can buy it. I have a question regarding the humidity. Do you run the humidifier all day or just for a certain amount of time? I have three Calatheas and I’ve been steaming mine in the shower, but I only leave them in there for a few hours. I’m wondering if that’s enough time?

    I’ve bought about 6 plants from Planterina and I highly recommend it! Some of them were huge like the large ZZ Zenzi, homalomina Selby, and Hoya carnosa compacta.

    Oh and I forgot to say that I have ordered from Planterina. But I ordered 2 Tiger Ferns. They are something I have never seen before except for the 1 I had bought this past summer at Reasors. Reasors actually keeps a good selection of plants. When I saw Planterina had them and they were on sale (back when I bought them) I had to buy some. They came very well packaged and are really growing.
    I would highly suggest signing up for emails!!! Because you get emails about new plants coming to the site. And you get emails about any sales they are having.

    Definitely recommend buying from planterina. I got a mini trio, with a coral syngonium, a parlor palm, and a ctenanthe amagris. All came packaged great, they spent about a week in the mail due to delays and I didn’t have any damaged plants, they all have bounced back beautifully.

    A cool thing is you can distill water at home with stuff you probably have around anyway. I only mention this bc I know before I looked it up, I was thinking it would be too complex to do, and that I'd need to regularly buy bottled water, but luckily it's super easy. There's good guides online for it

    I have been waiting for an in depth video on Orbifolia, I’ve gotten new leaves since in my care. I like to think I know how to care for it. I even repotted it and it’s putting out it’s 3rd leaf now. It’s beautiful, I got it at a local CO nursery for $25. So far I’ve ordered one plant from Planterina, Hoya Australis, and I paid $31 for 6”. It’s full and has 7 vines coming up! Planterina had really great packaging, no loose soil in the box and fast, free shipping. I’m waiting for one of my wishlist plants to go live on her website!

    I bought mine at a local nursery for $8! I made the mistake of putting it in a terra cotta pot so I’m watering constantly, but it hasn’t been too fussy. Much easier than the Ornata, which I killed in under a month.

    People always talk about how sensitive Calathea are, but I think the Orbifolia is hardier than people think. I left a hydrospike in it for 2 weeks this Christmas when I went out of town, and when I came back the water ran out and the soil was b o n e d r y, but the Orbifolia was fine!! No crisping, and it even put out a new leaf. This plant is amazing. I do definitely still use distilled water though, just in case.

    I own 4 calathea, all of them are super happy, putting out new leaves every 3 weeks but my 3" orbifolia, I could never figure out how to make it happy, all it did was getting crispy and slowly degenerated into ashes, (I have 60-70% humidity here in south CA) somehow this month it decided to grow again, thought I figured something out finally, although I told myself maybe this plant is not for me I seriously got another 6" orbifolia few weeks ago ( its form Hirt's Gardens $29.99 for who ever want to risk buying from them) because of your 5 plants youll never get rid of and top 5 plants 2019 videos, you are one of my favorite plant youtubers, love your personality and thanks for making this care guides.

      @@sherryporsch9349 there's a lot of plant growers in The Netherlands so that accounts for the prices and selection I guess. Pretty sure many ship to the US too.

    Hi, I'm very new to plants and bought an orbifolia just for how pretty it looked, knew nothing else about it. I got it with 3 leaves only and it's put out one more, so it's a small plant. However, the person I bought it from, potted it in a very large pot. What should I do? I have been thinking I need to repot in a much smaller one. Can you recommend the soil mix? I have potting soil, orchid bark, coco peat, worm castings, perlite, and even LECA. The plant was perfect for a while but now I see brown tips on the 3 original leaves...the new one is fine for now. I use filtered or rain water but I do feel the pot is far too big. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

    My orbifolia was doing amazingly before I left for Christmas holidays... When I came back I found most of the leaves had yellowed and some edges had become brown and crispy. Still can't figure out what happened during that week: no overwatering, no underwatering, no direct sunlight, no pests, healthy and very well developed roots. I suspect it suffered from the lack of fresh air, since no one was at home to open the windows from time to time... Since I came back, deterioration stopped. This is really puzzling, she's been with me for around five months and never had a single issue with her... :(

    • @BeccaDeLaPlants
      @BeccaDeLaPlants  4 роки тому +1

    My last two leaves are not round. Did you see anything in your research that might tell me why? I have been searching but haven't found answers. TIA

    • @BeccaDeLaPlants
      @BeccaDeLaPlants  4 роки тому

      Hmmm no! I haven’t a clue why that would happen. If the leaves look like they were ripped at all, might have been a humidity situation while leaves were unfurling

    Hi! I realized one of your Calathea leaves edges curled. Mine has similar situation :( do you know what happens with that?

    • @BeccaDeLaPlants
      @BeccaDeLaPlants  4 роки тому +1

      Ah I’m not sure, probably something to do with humidity though!

    • @meumoxdumeu7976
      @meumoxdumeu7976 3 роки тому

      I’ve noticed the same curling on the sides of 3 of my Orbifolia leaves. Also on my Calathea Freddie. They get plenty of humidity. My guess is the sudden drop in temperature but not sure why.

    I feel like the calathea orbifolia is way less uncommon here in the Netherlands because you see them pretty much everywhere and when I got mine it was about the size of yours and I believe I paid around 12 euros!

    Awesome video :)
    I Recently purchased an Orbifolia and I'm loving it, I was just wondering if a grow light directed at the plant from above is okay? as the room doesn't get much light, its a 6500K globe at about 40cm distance from the foliage
    Thanks :)

    • @BeccaDeLaPlants
      @BeccaDeLaPlants  4 роки тому

      Calathea are considered lower light plants - id say give the grow light a try! Make sure it’s far enough away from the plant though, don’t want it to burn ❤️

    • @BeccaDeLaPlants
      @BeccaDeLaPlants  4 роки тому +1

      The grow light might not even be necessary depending on how dark the room is!

    • @Dxrk_Mxgicixn
      @Dxrk_Mxgicixn 4 роки тому

      The light is just an LED at 6500K so produces virtually no heat and is pure white light, would that be okay?

      @@BeccaDeLaPlants Yeah most Caletheas are now Goeppertia. Some even changed their species name. For instance, Calathea lancifolia is now Goeppertia insignis.

    A lot of really good tips, especially using only distilled/rain water to avoid the brown tips. Also, mine prefer to be bottom watered. My top watered orbs have gone to planty heaven. I have that mini humidifier-I like it but has a built-in 8-hour timer that you cannot change. Therefore, if have you have to keep flipping it on. Thanks for sharing your care advice.

      Becca De La Plants It can be turned off. You just can’t keep it on more than 8 hours at a time. It’s still useful though.
