  • Alexis-Roland Manuel, Hommage a Ravel au La Soirée de Viroflay
    Piano: Louise Akili
    Composed 1916
Alexis Roland-Manuel (22 March 1891 - 1 November 1966) was a French composer and critic, remembered mainly for his criticism.
This work composed after probably a tribute to a party or meeting held on Viroflay night with Ravel.
Alexis Roland Manuel was quite supporter and admirer of Ravel. He was friend too with Ravel (As you can see at the video's beginning, in the picture they are drinking tea/coffee, Manuel on the left, Ravel on the right)
Ravel's Grave, which is placed at the end of this video, has nothing to do with the piece; this work was written in 1916 and Ravel died in 1937. So this work is not a hommage for "died friend"
Q: So why is there such a photo at the end?
A: Well, It was placed there on purpose simply because it fits the mood of the work.
The piece also evokes Ravel's style and works. You can hear the "Oiseaux Tristes" theme several times in piece.
