In this video I talk about how things are going on my first trip solo as a company driver for Roehl Transport. Check it out. Comment, Like, Subscribe!!! Enjoy
Thanks so much for doing these videos, Shon. Very informative, helpful and much appreciated, Sir. I'm in a CDL school in the Chicago area right now and Roehl is one of the companies on my short list. The only part of the process that I'm worried about is being stuck with a stranger for 19+ days in an 8x10 ft box ... yeah, I went through boot camp and lived on a war ship way back when and survived it all just fine, but I was also a lot younger! I'm 54 years old now and a lot more set in my ways, so I'm really not looking forward to that! I guess ya just gotta roll with it (no pun intended). Anyway, just wanted to say hey and thank you for taking the time to post these vids. Keep 'em comming! Peace!
Shon, I appreciate the videos you do. It gives me great insight as to what to expect. I just passed my permit yesterday and will be starting my journey the Monday following Labor Day in Appleton, WI. If all goes well I will be in a refrigerator in the Midwest shortly. Be nice to have the opportunity to head Southwest come winter though:) Keep the updates coming.
Life of Shon Evans after going out with your trainer and getting ready to go out on your own; how did you get your rig? Did you fly to a terminal or do they meet you somewhere? Just trying to think ahead on planning. A one way plane ticket is the same as a full tank of gas. I’m assuming I wound need two though. Please advise. Thanks.
Mark Belden when it came to getting my truck the day I tested out my truck had just arrived at the Phoenix terminal. Sometimes they will fly you out even get you a rental to wherever your truck is our gonna be.
I've heard the freightliners have issues with certain warning lights coming on. I hope it wasn't too big of an issue for you man. I'm glad to see a new driver get a brand new truck. I start school for Roehl in August but I'm supposed to go in Wisconson, apparently they still have some standards they train on up there but like you I'm like... why? Everything's going automatic anyway. Glad to see a fresh UA-cam channel from a Roehl driver I can follow. Although, I'll be going in to the reefer division I enjoy watching these. Channels. Thanks.
@@Darkmanx69 Sounds great man! My CDLP test is on the 12th so I'm hoping to start the following Monday the 17th or soon after but not exactly sure yet. Take it easy and good luck.
Hey man! Great videos (no music -and please keep it that way IMHO) and to the point of education everyone about what is it to live like a “Rail” wheeler. Question for you (very personal) since I am considering transition into this field but I am well over 50. Am I too old for this?
Shon ,great video great personality and I've been looking into other company's and you are on point ....thank you and if i join roehl ill look you up...be safe out there
Well i looked into that company after i seen ur last video and that opened my eyes..lol. keep me posted and good luck to you my friend...stay in touch bro
Brother Shon, I hope all is going well for you I really appreciated the video because I'm actually thinking about signing on with Roehl. I already have my class A but when I was on the road shortly after I finished truck driving school. The company that I worked for put such a bad taste in my mouth about being on the road I left and started driving straight trucks and buses for the last 25 years. I really been reading some nice things about this company and would like to give them a try.
Thanks for the video, Shon... I am a recent CDL graduate out of Tucson, and considering Roehl flatbed. I know no starter company will be perfect, but Roehl seems better than some. They told me I could *possibly* train on a manual trans, and *possibly* get assigned one, too. I was considering a very large company out of PHX (that I won't mention their name), but Roehl seems to be more focused on training and safety. Any pointers, advice, opinions, etc, are appreciated. Ima look for you, my dude...If I wind up at Roehl, the chances I see you are probably pretty good. Thanks again.
weirdkindofsexsymbol congrats on getting your class A. At this point roehl is in the process of moving to an automatic fleet. You could get assigned a manual but may not have it very long. Just being honest. As for safety and training, yes they are very safety minded. There's something that every driver in the company lives by and that's called the safe 7. If you join roehl that's something you'll hear about about. It's a great company to start with in my opinion. I've met some ppl that have been here for 15 years and others who stayed for a few years and moved on to others things. I hope this helps you out. If you decide to go with Roehl Transport let me know I'll get you my driver code as well. 🤙🏾😎
Just starting my CDL class and my first choice is Roehl Flatbed as soon as school is done. I hope they're still hiring out of Vegas by the time I graduate.

Hi Shon - My name is Kenny and I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am in the process of clearing background etc with Roehl and then will begin my training in November sometime. I enjoyed your videos and would appreciate any advice or tips that I can use during and after training. Thanks very much for all of your info and stay safe on the road!
Where are you going for training? Training can go either way. Hard or easy that's up to you. What you put in is what you get out of it. Be a sponge. Soak it all up
Hey Shon, what size mini fridge do you have? I start with Roehl in a month, and I want to get a mini fridge for the truck when I get one... I do currently have a mini fridge with a small freezer but I think it’s 3.1 cu I dunno if that would fit
I’m about to go to Wisconsin for the 4 week training. Are you able to leave after class on Saturday and go home for Sunday? Or do they suggest you stay at the hotel the whole time? Also what size TV are you thinking of strapping in that bad boy?
I applied to Roehl for their CDL training program and am waiting to hear back from them. Like you, I'll be coming from buses with my Class B CDL and need to upgrade to Class A. How do you like the flatbed division so far? Right now, I'm thinking of being interested in the refrigerated side of the company.
Congratulations brotha. Was the road test easy? I recently got my CDL permit but I'm just waiting to have enough hair for the drug test then I'm off to Wisconsin.
Pretty sure I saw you recently haha. But didn't know your truck number. Now I do. I'll honk when I see you next haha. Nice video brother. I'm thinking about doing this. I remember speaking to a Roehl rep over the phone and she told me I'd have to pay to get my CDL here in Arizona, and she'd send me the study materials but they'd reimburse me..is that actually the case? I'm also in the Phoenix area.
Hey man what’s up. Thanks for the videos . You probably get asked a lot but if you don’t mind answering. How much did you make driving with Roehl out of school?
I want to get into trucking but I've been smoking CBD weed on weekends for a couple of months for back pain. I'm good now, so I may have to shave my hair and wait until early next year.
Awesome video! I’m on my 3rd solo load oh phase 2. Did you just get lucky with getting a brand new truck? My FTM told me that I most likely won’t get a brand new truck once I go to test out. You getting good miles?
I have just done my application for them waiting for my first call back within 3 days and study for my permit test but I’m going to be getting my physical and drug test before the permit test
Life of Shon Evans awesome yes I just got an email they accepted my application I have gotten my Manuel so am starting to study for my permit and waiting for my first call and discuss things
Hi Shon, this is Fred in California, what is the starting pay for new drivers. Obviously, you do flatbed; Roehl have a refer division? Thanks for the video
Hi Shon, happy post Thanksgiving. Thank you for taking the time and sharing. I will attend the school soon. Now? I was told that there’s a camera on board for safety and hard braking. Now? Since, you have been riding solo? Are you allowed to bring your spouse? Are you still working for them? Am ur new subscriber. 👌🙋♀️
No problem. There is a camera onboard for those things and to keep an eye on you as well. You can after 6 months you can bring spouse or kids and/or pets. As of this pass Tuesday I no longer drive for Roehl Transport.

hello I am looking to getting into truck driving. I have been and uber driver now for a year and home care for nearly 6 years. I love to drive more and more each day I uber and was thinking of doing the switch to driving trucks since I like being on the road. one of my uber passengers suggested Roehl Transport. This person currently drives for another company. as like you he is a new driver. I am looking to make this change in the next month or less. What suggestions would you give someone coming into trucking after being on the road for 2 months now.
Coates do your research. Ask questions. Write down any questions you might think of so when you speak to a recruiter you can ask everything you can think of to make the best decision for yourself. Hope this helps

I have been and around here roehl seems the best just from UA-cam videos and research I have done...the only thing is I don't want to be away from two weeks at a time do you know of roehl offers anything less like a week away and 3 or 4 days hometime
@@RageSlayer Depends on where you live, there could be a dedicated route that you can be put on. Maybe 5 days out 2 home and so forth. Not sure, but thats something you can talk to a recruiter about. If you want i can give you the number to mine.

Robin Mirtica you're paid $90/day while you're with your trainer. After that whatever you and your recruiter agree upon. Could be something like 48.5 cpm
Merry Christmas my brother I’m soon to b a member starting January 4 , so a flatbed driver, so my question is how many miles do you average a week? Is close to 6000 or 7000 miles a week?
How long after reporting to Roehl was it before you got your first training check? Also, I am going to submit an app to them. Can you send me your driver referral info?
James Randall your pay during training is $500/wk. Phase 2 otr with you're trainer is $90/day. Your cpm depends on what your recruiter and yourself agrees on.
@@MrCevans1026 I apologize that I didn't make my question clearer.I mean, now that you are out on the road, during this economic downturn, what has your miles and pay been like?

There are APU's on the truck. Theres a setting in the trucks computer that will keep the truck cool overnight and if needed it will start it up to keep the batteries going. That was the site that I used as well, but I only needed my combination test. Good luck to you brother

Soak it all up
@@MrCevans1026 Gary, Indiana
That's good. Great place. That's where I trained as well
@@MrCevans1026 I can't get my CDL with Roehl now. They no longer let you bring your pet with you and I can't leave my dog home while I'm OTR.
Ahh yea gotta be otr for 6 months before that happens. Sorry to hear that.
Hey have you bwen put on the 30 day performance plan?
No. I haven't driven for them since 2021
Hey Shon, what size mini fridge do you have? I start with Roehl in a month, and I want to get a mini fridge for the truck when I get one... I do currently have a mini fridge with a small freezer but I think it’s 3.1 cu I dunno if that would fit
I’m about to go to Wisconsin for the 4 week training. Are you able to leave after class on Saturday and go home for Sunday? Or do they suggest you stay at the hotel the whole time? Also what size TV are you thinking of strapping in that bad boy?
Austin Gage yea you can leave most guys did. I just put a 32in smart TV in there. New video coming soon
I applied to Roehl for their CDL training program and am waiting to hear back from them. Like you, I'll be coming from buses with my Class B CDL and need to upgrade to Class A. How do you like the flatbed division so far? Right now, I'm thinking of being interested in the refrigerated side of the company.
J Mac flatbed is alot of work bruh. Not gonna lie to you. Refer sounds good 🤙🏾👏🏾😎
Congratulations brotha. Was the road test easy? I recently got my CDL permit but I'm just waiting to have enough hair for the drug test then I'm off to Wisconsin.
Daniel Son after going through the training the test was indeed easy. Good luck to you 🤙🏾😎
Pretty sure I saw you recently haha.
They want you to have your permit first. Thanks I appreciate it brother. It's an all around good company so far I like it.
Hey Bro. How are you I’m studying to take my CDL permit what kind of advice can you give me?
What state are you testing in?
Hey man what’s up. Thanks for the videos . You probably get asked a lot but if you don’t mind answering. How much did you make driving with Roehl out of school?
I would say my first couple checks were around $1600-$1900
@@MrCevans1026 This is weekly?
Yup
@@MrCevans1026 bro you just helped me, making my mind. See you on the road..
I hope the money isn't your biggest factor. I'll put it to you this way. They weren't who I thought they were and that's why I lefted
Thumbs up 👍🏻
I want to get into trucking but I've been smoking CBD weed on weekends for a couple of months for back pain. I'm good now, so I may have to shave my hair and wait until early next year.
Yes cause they just told me the hair follicle test goes back 6 months
Do I or Roehl pay for lodging while going through their training? Also, How many months do I have to give to Roehl before I can leave the company?
They do. That's one way the put you on the hook. The hotel in Gary is horrible. Could be better now but who knows
Awesome video! I’m on my 3rd solo load oh phase 2. Did you just get lucky with getting a brand new truck? My FTM told me that I most likely won’t get a brand new truck once I go to test out. You getting good miles?
No Timer I think I did get lucky with my truck. I get really good miles. Now I get about 2500-3000 weekly
Life of Shon Evans haha hopefully I get that same luck man, and that’s good! I’m looking to average like 2500 minimum
No Timer once your FTM sees you can handle the job they will give you the miles
I have just done my application for them waiting for my first call back within 3 days and study for my permit test but I’m going to be getting my physical and drug test before the permit test
Lucifer 9654 would you be down to use my driver code?
Life of Shon Evans what could I do with ur code lol sorry I’m very to knew about all of this but excited I am from Indiana
Lucifer 9654 if you get hired and use the code you and I both would receive a bonus. roehlrefer.me/ShonEVANS
Life of Shon Evans awesome yes I just got an email they accepted my application I have gotten my Manuel so am starting to study for my permit and waiting for my first call and discuss things
Lucifer 9654 that's awesome. I remember what that felt like. Enjoy the process.
NICESS!!@@
Got my permit and heading to Gary in 6 days
Good luck to you.
Did u have to pay for your own hotel and or bus ticket out your pocket or do they pay for it ?
I paid for my own plane ticket out to Indiana, but they put you up in a hotel for your time there.
I have my CLASS A license but I am looking for a good company to start with
Hi Shon, this is Fred in California, what is the starting pay for new drivers. Obviously, you do flatbed; Roehl have a refer division? Thanks for the video
Starting is around 42.5 cpm. They do have a refer division as well
i want to come to Roehl
My record was perfectly spotless. I got a DUI last December 25th. It will be a year this December 2020. Do I have any chance to go through the school?
I'm not sure you'd have to ask someone. That's above my pay grade
Hi Shon, Thank you for taking the time and the kind response. I got my last final check up call 📞 📱 today.I start this Monday. I planned to be a flatbed driver just like you are. I really appreciate the training in advanced. And So? Did you filled your 200,000 miles or 15 mos. then? So, you don’t have to repay the scholarship training? hello I am looking to getting into truck driving.
I applied for Roehl i also have a class B did u have to retake the general knowledge test or airbrakes?
No, I just had to take combination because I already had airbrakes from the motorcoach days. Best wishes to you
How many miles are you averaging a week? Is it 44.5 cents per mile? Do they offer any benefits? What kind of deductibles?
I'm on a dedicated now so I get about 1700-2100 a week. They do and I have no idea. Sorry
Did you buy your Fridge and Micro from Roehl or store? I hear they charge alot for inverter, compared to WMart.
I bought all my stuff from walmart. The inverter is already installed into your truck once you get it.
What's the starting pay and training pay for Roehl?
Training was $500 a week. You don't get first check until week 3 and while you're in phase 3 it's 44.5 cpm
Shes pretty🚛
hey i like ur truck . i am on my way there now to get my cdl but i am thinking bout doing my dry van rite now . i mit move to flatbed later on down the road but i will stay with the dry van rite now and i am 31 now going to be 32 in june and i have alway what to become truck driver and now i am making the move

Rage Slayer thanks 🤙🏾😎
ive been thinking about going to roehl im from ohio and im coming off of driving a 36ft box truck for a moving company any tips for a new guy?? just been thinking about driving truck for awhile now
@@RageSlayer I would say do your homework and research. Find out what would be important to you in a company and look into those companies. I can answer questions about Roehl. If you need anything else just let me know.... Best wishes
I have been thinking about going to roehl. Did they switch from testing in manual to automatic now? I was hoping to be able to test in a manual if I go to roehl. It is what it is though lol
Jason Mathey is a good company to consider your start into trucking. As of a few weeks ago they no longer test or train in manual
@@MrCevans1026 ok thank you sir. I have my class B and have drove in the gas & oil company & some concrete trucks. My youngest kid just graduated school so I have been thinking about getting my class A now. I have been researching for about two months & everything I've seen about roehl has been oretting good. I hear amazing things about their safety!! and that is what is kinda making me think of them.
Shon, do you take your truck home on your off time?
No unfortunately I don't. It stays in the yard
How many miles are you getting a week on average running flat bed?
Already have my Class A. Just wondering how much they pay you while you're with a trainer and how much they pay per mile after you're on your own
Robin Mirtica you're paid $90/day while you're with your trainer. After that whatever you and your recruiter agree upon. Could be something like 48.5 cpm

Do they have a program for people who don't have a CDL yet?

Merry Christmas my brother I’m soon to b a member starting January 4 , so a flatbed driver, so my question is how many miles do you average a week? Is close to 6000 or 7000 miles a week?
No nothing close to that. When I drove OTR is was more like 2400-3000. Best wishes to you
Thank you my brother as long I do more than 1500 miles a week I will be alright thank brother, I like your videos
Nice video.....did you have to pay for the CPAP? How much?
Thanks and yes I had to pay for that thing. Just shy of $1300
Are you still working for Roehl? How is everything for you so far?
What’s benifits with Roehels vs Stevens?
Do they pay layovers or do they have a rider policy
They do have a rider policy but you have to wait 6 months. Layover depends
How long after reporting to Roehl was it before you got your first training check? Also, I am going to submit an app to them. Can you send me your driver referral info?
James Randall you get your first check in week 3. roehlrefer.me/ShonEVANS
You don't have to give your exact pay, but it would be appreciated if you could provide some idea of what pay and weekly mileage is like.
@@MrCevans1026 Also, if I might ask, what was the length of time from when you first contacted Roehl to the time you started training?
James Randall my first week mileage was like 638 miles. After taxes around 650-700. My 2nd week will be this week's pay check
James Randall the time from first contact to the start of training was like 2 weeks. Applied at like 4 one afternoon fit a call the next day room my clp in 3 days then finalized all paperwork by that following Wednesday then flew to Indiana a few days later. So yea about 2 weeks
Do they help you get your cdls or you have to get them before applying?
I believe Roehl has a school to help you get your CDL. You would have to sign a contract to drive for them for a certain amount of time.
Hey bruh, just wanna wassup, i’m watching from south shore off Montreal, Canada!!! Just to be real bruh, being a previous truck driver and jumped as a coach driver, wich job do you prefer ??? My personal opinion i by far prefer Coaches !!!!!
Edric Jr. Pierre Louis man I miss the coach job so much right now. No doubt. 🤙🏾
Life of Shon Evans me to bruh, its like coming from a crap vehicule to a Cadilac !! The suspension the way a coach is sitting on the road and communicate with you as a driver it’s incomparable !!!!
Life of Shon Evans but the industry is getting slowly better right ??

@@edricjr.pierre-louis Yea man I mean my truck is a 2021 but my Prevost is absolutely incredible. I do miss it very much
How is ithe training if you are a new driver with a Class A license already?
Wouldn't be nearly as long im sure. Just a few days
@@MrCevans1026 the only thing that scares me is...I have enough experience to get my license but not to just be thrown behind the wheel alone if that makes since
Stephanie Mayfield it does. I felt the same way but they trust me when I say they do everything to get you prepared to handle that big boy
Did you have to sign a contract? Are you having to pay for your cdl?
Momma2Jaxson yea you do sign a contract. Basically you owe them 120k solo miles
Yeah I had a brand new truck also with 64 miles put 14k miles on it and they wanted me to violate my 70hour Rule
Hey shon, I’m also from Gilbert Arizona I’m turning 24 in December , and looking into Roehls transportation for a company either them or C.R. England. I am just having to clean my system. @@MrCevans1026 will do bossman! Thanks for the support. U the man
do they have APU's on the truck and what are the rules for idling overnight just curious I'm currently getting started In the program I just passed my dot and going for my clp on Thursday I have been using a website called epermittest.com to help me study any other tips would be appreciated
There are APU's on the truck. Theres a setting in the trucks computer that will keep the truck cool overnight and if needed it will start it up to keep the batteries going. That was the site that I used as well, but I only needed my combination test. Good luck to you brother
I noticed you have sleep apnea if you don’t mind, what did the test consist of?
You have to sleep with a sleep machine for a couple days then a trusted company will analyze the data and go on from there.
