Beautiful project! I found your video by researching for 3D printed prosthetics thumbs for a friend that just lost his thumb on a tape saw on his work. Since he can't afford the other prosthetics because of the conversion cost to Brazilian Reais R$ and the importation fees, I started to look for low cost solutions that actually work. I found several projects on thingiverse and other 3D printing communities, but none of them was so nice as yours. He lost the first and the second phalanges of his left thumb, but still has the basic movements of the metacarpal bone. By what you learned with you project, do you think that the remaining movement of the metacarpal bone can drive a thumb prosthetics that is based on the same principle of yours? I have a 3D printer at home and I am already working on the string driven projects, but they are a little fragile. Thanks for putting so much work, time and thought on this project! This is a great inspiration for DIY makers and it can really help the mind and bring some joy for those who suffered these accidents! Cheers from Brazil!
Awesome project! I am also interested in the STL. My father in law lost parts of thumb, index and middle finger a few months ago... He needs solutions Asap to be able to continue his work. You would help so many if you were to share or sell the STL at affordable prices. Best
Hola soy de México una pregunta , Ami me faltan 3 dedos y esas prótesis son caras, crees poder apoyarme para saber cómo poder fabricar una , gracias y disculpa la molestia
Awesome project! I have Naked Prostetics PIP Driver on my pinky and a customized Point Designs Point Finger for my ring finger. Thus reminds me of a MCP Driver. My fingers cost my insurance $50,000 which is why I haven't gone back for a body driven ring finger. I really like your design!
This is very similar to the NP design. Great job Noah. Will you be sharing your design? I am just starting work my way through this process and any help would be appreciated.
It looks like the animated simulation was created using the Linkage software. I'm feeling a little bit proud to have helped out with this project, if only by designing some software that was useful to you. And the end result is awesome. I'd like to stick a link to the free software in a comment if that's ok.
I lost the top of my right thumb and was wondering if you could make me a thumb like the one you made for your family member I am a mechanic and am now not able to grasp a-lot of objects missing the last section of my thumb
I would love to try this thing out. I have a partial middle finger amputation just above the middle knuckle. I’m trying to find something that will help me play piano again. Is there a way to design a slimmer finger section to fit between the black and white piano keys? This is piquing my interest!
Noah, I have partially amputated index and ring fingers due to a table saw accident in Feb 2024. The surgeons were able to repair my middle finger. I work as a Firefighter/paramedic and enjoy an active lifestyle including mountain biking. One of my goals is to make a prosthetic and/or modify the mountain bike brake handle so I can return to riding. Would you be kind enough to share your files and design? It would be a great starting point and learning experience to adapt it to my situation. It would be for personal use only. Thanks.
I had an accident at work 2 years ago. It caused me to lose most of the fingers on my left hand. I'm always looking for what you did. I want to do something like that for myself. .I would really appreciate it if you could share more and share me the 3d file.I really appreciate it. p/s: I'm not good at English so I have to use translation software. Hope you understand
Great job on your design. Any progress with refining your design? Feel free to take a look at what I'm doing with my current 3d printed body powered partial hand design.
Hi Ian, thank you for commenting. I discovered your channel a few months after publishing this video--I'm very impressed by your work and your devices certainly have more functionality than what I presented here. I haven't refined this design at all, actually, NP targeted me and this video in a short-lived legal battle (so I'm a little scared to continue). Next would be adding an additional DOF for finger splay, and a bit more total bend of the finger. Keep up your channel, it's inspiring to many people!
Thank you so much for your video Noah Zipin, it's an amazing idea to use 3D printing to get something like that. What was the thickness of the joints you used?
This is wonderful Noah... I'm developing a finger joint implant, the idea is follow same principles you have here in your prosthetic design. I have the complete idea but don't know how to model it. Could you help me?
The maintenance guy at my work is missing part of his finger from when he was 19, he said a saw blade went down the middle of it and it wasn't repairable. I thought I would surprise him with a prosthetic but I can't find any files and I'm not very good at designing things like that and I didn't want to measure his finger like a weirdo especially if I couldn't make it for him in the end. He said he called some places about getting one but they said they don't make that body part I guess. Idk why, I think it would be a nice little extra money, sell the half finger for like $300. It could be made out of silicone or something easy and cheap. One day I will make it for him and produce a free file for everyone to use and instructions on how to modify it. I have really long skinny fingers and his are short and stubby so I can't measure mine but I can probably start playing around with tinkercad.
Hi Noah I am from Mexico and my little brother lost his finger days ago, I am figuring out how to make him a printed prosthetic. Do you have any tips? He has a partial finger amputation.
Please let me know if you decide to share this design. I would love to make some free for those that need them. I am working on getting the supplies for making free prosthetic full Hands currently. Great work!
@@NoahZipin it’s a partial amputation just like that but it’s my index finger. I’m actually doing a build video right now that should be up by next week! Keep up the good work tho brotha that’s dope👊
@@ibrahimalzein1821 Oh dude I’m sorry to hear about that! Loosing a finger is the worst! So my plans have changed a bit, and I’m actually starting a prosthetics company right now using my design so that people can actually get custom mechanical fingers online without having to go through insurance and a prosthetist! I’m going to need some people to test out the product before I go into full production, and if you would like to be apart of that testing group I’d be happy to send you out a free fitting kit to make you one! I’m still getting things set up but if you have Instagram (_dandroid__) you can look me up on there and message me about it so we can exchange info. I’ll also be posting updates about it on there very soon. Let me know! Thanks!
Hello, Noah. I'm from Indonesia. My name is Ridho. I lost my right thumb 8 days ago. At 13 October 2021. May i ask how can i get this device? And how much does it cost? Thank you.
would you consider publishing the model on a platform like thingiverse? for others to use for their cases too
This a very simple yet very impressive design and it's low cost is astonishing. Very cool!
almost as cool as mtvzaid himself
Beautiful project!

Que tal funcionan las naked? Son buenas? O no valen la pena? Tienen fuerza? Son resistentes? Por favor contestame. Gracias

How can I get one like it?
What a stud!
Hi, I was hoping for a little more info. I lost 1/2 of my middle finger and would really appreciate making a now one.
Tienes el modelo?

Hi! what is the name of the program you used to simulate the linkage at 1:54 ? thanks!
Hi I have recently lost my ring and little finger below the pip joint. This looks amazing, are the designs online?
is there anyway we can access the stl files. would love to print it out for myself
i wish to have these on my finger amputated :(
