- Martin Baron-- who led the Boston Globe investigation into the Catholic Church child sex-abuse scandal that is the focus of the Oscar-nominated movie "Spotlight"--sat down with American University professor Jane Hall, students, faculty and alumni to discuss the movie and the issues it raises. Hall spoke with Baron about the response of the public and the Catholic Church in the aftermath of the Spotlight investigation and the Globe’s continued coverage.
Baron, known for his career as an editor leading award-winning investigative journalism at major newspapers, has been the executive editor of The Washington Post since 2013. Under his leadership the Post has has won three Pulitzer prizes for investigative journalism.
Jane Hall, a professor in journalism at the School of Communication at American University, is the long-running moderator of the American Forum series of town halls with students on issues in politics, media and popular culture.
Schreiber NAILED the role. Talks just like that.
I agree. It’s almost eerie
Thank you, Martin for your strong leadership and resilience to see the Spotlight objectives through successfully!!
Feels like Marty Baron is the best newspaper editor of this generation.
Here's the thing -- America has editors not at all unlike this across the nation, working in small and mid-sized newsrooms, uncovering smaller but locally important stories, but no one pays attention. The only reason most people know about this is because of the scope of the scandal and, quite frankly, because of the movie.
@@martyboy5602 True. You want scandal? Look no further than The Boy Scouts of America. Grown men dressing up like little boys and sleeping in tents with them!
The Catholic Church is an easy target because they almost never react, they simply settle. Disneyland does the same thing with injury/death lawsuits but they NEVER get questioned.
God Bless Mr. Baron for his heroic courage in taking on the Church.
Hopefully he'll write about this too, along with his other books.
We are confronted with a "Collision of Power." And Faith.
Agreed, wow. The definition of essential journalism.
What courage they all had, thank Christ. You changed real lives, Marty.
Wow.
Mitchell Garrabedian was right. It takes an outsider.
I guess a cardinal is above the law.
As it should be, Avi!
