I agree with your ranking of the chosen players. I began collecting a couple of years prior to 1989, but began heavily buying packs and getting more in depth with card collecting in 1989. My favorite memories was saving my lunch money and allowance to buy boxes of Fleer and Topps, and then when i would get larger amounts of money like birthdays, i would get a box of Upperdeck. I was all about the Griffey Jr CRAZE back then. I love the throwback Thursdays, very reminiscent of my childhood collecting years. Its your box breaks that has gotten me back into collecting and like you, am an older collector now, but love busting packs open.
Just watched Baltimore Box Breakers 89 Fleer vid, then your brothers 89 Fleer vid and now this. I guess it a Fleer-a-thon tonight. One way to pass the time while being quarantined. Thanks for the entertainment as always.
The Tim Wallach collector is still going strong! He has a website where he asks you to send him your Tim Wallach cards. Looks like he has 24,854 of them.
Mone he’s going to have a movie made about him one day u watch. Or a bit on ESPN. He needs to meet Wallach. I’m fascinated as to why. So many questions!!
Ryan played in '66 too, that's one thing I hated about Fleer, they didn't show all the seasons for some of the longer tenured players. Ran outta room I guess. I have an '87 Fleer Pete Rose, and I think it starts at 1968! Still better than Donruss which was way worse! (but better cards). That Tom Brookens near the end is an error, supposed to have Mike Heath's stats on the back, and vice versa.....
Several months back I purchased 2 Jumbo Cello boxes from BBCE. In the first box I opened, I found 2 F/Face cards. In the 2nd box, I found 13! They all had the same card order as well. I'd have to go back to my post on Patreon to see what it was. 15 total F/Face cards. I've sold several of them. I have about 5 or so left. I did not find the Johnson error though :( Which was really the one I was looking for.
@@WaveofCards Sorry, I did not video it as all I have is a cell phone and not a good one at that. I did take a photo of my haul and posted it on the Patreon page. Someone in Patreon actually contacted me and purchased several of them. I know it sounds unreal, but I wouldn't doubt it if these packs were some of the first off the line. They looked to be from the same sheet of cards as the card always followed a Jose Canseco 40/40 card along with some others. My wife and kids were all in the room and kept giving me looks of horror when I'd let out a scream after finding each and everyone of them. If you are a Patreon, my post is on September 14, 2019. You can zoom in just so much, but you can tell all the bats have F Face written on them.
As a lifelong O's fan, this card was the early white whale of my collecting career. I finally got one a few months back off Ebay, and lo and behold, Billy is coming to a local bookstore next week to sign his new release. I plan on seeing if I can get him to sign it
I thought that too! Although my grandpa always told me I'd be wiping my rear end with them in the future! Not quite there yet, lol. But my collection spans 79 to 90, way overproduced.
I always liked this set. When I was young we went to Cape Cod on vacation and found a hobby store that had boxes of 88, 89 and 90 fleer and we bought them all. Great memories😅
I like you putting Craig Biggio in front of Smoltz, he really stuck it to us in the 90's. I met his wife and he walked through my store that I was working at few years back but I didn't get the time to talk to him.
Um, you blew right by error cards and possible errors. Kevin Romine was an error card (not him pictured). Brookens and Heath might've been wrong backs but you didn't turn them over. Treadway might've been but you went so fast by him I couldn't tell if crosshair was there (I don't think so though).
walterdudedonny lol believe it or not it was the opposite. He had a regular wax box for I think 25 bucks, and I was going to buy it to try to find a Ripken. He said from his experience that you typically only find them in cello packs. Incredibly honest dude, and he’s had his shop in Quakertown PA forever. Shout out to Randy’s Sports Cards!
Hey everyone, how do you know what box codes to look for when hunting for Ripken FF card? Seems like the black box version came after certain box codes? Can someone provide a link or info to explain box codes so I know what to look for? Thanks all! 👍
One of my favorite products to bust. Always enjoy searching for the rookies, the FF, and the Johnson Marlboro variation. A lot of fun for a good price!
Last year I found a baseball card vending machine at an indoor flea. I bought 1 pack of 89 fleer and got the Billy Ripken F Face card. It was too sweet !
Really enjoy throwbacks. It would be cool if you did some random boxes from the 2000s when I was heavily collecting. Topps bazooka or total anything cheaper but not flagship sets would be fun to see again. Keep it up
This set is not the most exciting color wise, but it did have Ken G Jr. I bought quite a bit of this back in the day trying to find the error cards. Also nice to see pretty much no doubles of cards.
Thanks for the vid. Pretty good box, and didn’t see duplicates. Love all the extra comments. You definitely know more about baseball than me. I remember one year, that the pirates clinched the division, over the mets...Since than...disliked Pittsburgh teams. Maybe a year or 2 after that, was it the pirates that had this pitcher, who threw this special pitch? I don’t think the pirates won it all, in that era, but they were a good playoff team. Anyone know if there’s potential for any error cards in wax boxes, coming from a case code, I am trying to make out the code...it looks like 91662? I think they are not error boxes, but I am not sure.
i am looking for a graded(prefer PSA but not necessary) FF Card. I have shopped ebay and flee markets. What is a fair price to pay for one graded 9 to 10? I have seen them upwards of $300 and as low as about $60.
I never understand the love for Fred McGriff. Great stat counter, for sure, but the guy was never dominant, never once thought to be among the best players of his generation. Never finished higher than 4th in MVP voting. But I guess since the Hall lowered the bar with Harold Baines, this is what happens. I’d take Dale Murphy all day over Fred McGriff though..
Just so you know, there's a 3rd error card worth $10-$25 according to the 2019 Beckett guide and that's gonna be a Jeff Treadway card with a target right above his head. I bought an early run box from the error case and I go the Griffey, Smoltz, the Billy Ripken FF card and the Randy Johnson Marlboro card, but the Treadway was missing from the box sadly
John Paul he didn’t care much for it but that’s ok I loved it. I thought the look was sure better than that white ‘88. And I was living in Washington before the ‘89 year so I wanted the Griffey and Johnson rookies. And I liked the stickers cuz I hated that old shitty gum other packs had!! Lol
@@HoonAgain Thanks!! Anytime I get a chance to pick one up I do!! A lot of his Mariners 1987 Topps! Glad to see someone else out there who likes him as much as I do!
my husband had a shop in the 80-90's . We are finally digging out of storage boxes, cases of stock. How can we tell if the case or box was an error run?
I need to go through my collection who knows what I might have I collected as a kid I'm 40 now & started again as a young adult & stopped again I also do have alot of 60's 70's cards too
You have hands down the very best baseball card UA-cam channel around. 100k subs on the way. I love these throwback thursdays. Almost as much as I love going with u guys hunting cards. Keep up the great content. It gets better every time. And that ‘89 Fleer box was impressive with all the rookies and almost no repeats. Thanks dude and good luck to ur Pirates this year it’s going to be a fun baseball season!!
I gave my collection to my son so we'll how that goes he's 11 & came a across a Tom Brady rookie card so I might have some great stuff I have all sports soccer boxing hockey & nascar
I do not agree about your view on pricing. A value of a card is not what who ever pays it for. For example 1990 fleer card jose uribe you sold. Just because someone buys a card for $1,000 bucks does not make it worth that much. Just my opinion
Jabs I just wanted to let you know that at Walgreens (no topps 2020 yet) but the packs that have 1hobby and a card and 2 other packs etc.. In Utah at least I found a 2018 chrome update pack with a Soto, Ohtani, and Anduhar in it so be on the look out.
Love how you always give Will Clark his respect! Cheers to you brotha!
Hi god bless have a good one.
The 89 Fleer with blue backs were the glossy. Always thought I had one till I sent it in to be graded. I'm still upset.
I got the Ripken with the black box and the Randy Johnson blacked out
I use to mimic Gary Sheffields batting stance all the time when we played backyard baseball growing up.
Jack Adams haha same he was a stud and that stance worked like magic I swear!
Same I loved his stance
His birthday is coming up.
LOL! Same

Mike Heath card may have a different players stats on the back.
You have the Ripken FF story wrong also. It was absolutely his bat and he admitted to writing it on there.
Me too.... Erik!!!!
Mookie Wilson! yes!

The font would be like .5
Billy Ripken, "F*ck Face" is Baaack!!!
I honestly don't watch baseball nor collect cards but I find your videos interesting because you only point out good cards and not every single one
It's really hard to find a PSA 10 in this year and brand. It's cheap to buy for a reason
Love the brief but accurate comment on Brady Anderson

Back in 89, i bought 5 boxes before the recall. Ended up with 4 FF cards. Sold them for some good cash
I have 2 production cards with no back printed on them. Not sure what they are worth
On this episode of "I used to hate that guy for no reason whatsoever" haha enjoyed the throwback thanks for the box break!
I have the billy Ripken error card
Yo tengo una de la upperdeck 93 error
I noticed that after you opened 36 packs, there were only 4 or 5 all star cards making them seem like a rare card out of all those cards opened!!

TOM GORDON ROOKIE
Great TBT Erik. All the rookies werw3 awesome to see. Thanks for doing this.
Nice. Don't always get all the rookies in a box. I don't mind this set honestly. Some good RCs and errors and it's not expensive usually
it's good
We will be opening one next week, but I have a question, are you left handed?
I am right handed but apparently I shuffle the cards like a lefty would.
