The Shrine is not only my most favourite Stargate Atlantis episode but one of my top favourite episodes of all the shows i have watched in my life, thank you David Hewlett for making Dr Meredith Rodney McKay being one of the best fictional characters ever
Season Five's "The Shrine" is an emotional great episode for one of my favorite SG characters. Interesting fact, Rodney's sister is David Hewlett's real life sister Katie Hewlett. In a recent interview with Katie, she admitted that episode was difficult for her to act the death of her brother.
In any other season, maybe. S4 was stacked. "Be All My Sins Remembered" might be top 3 in the franchise. Probably pretty high when it comes to sci-fi episodes in general.
So many good episodes. I love "The Last Man" and "The Shrine" but there are so many good ones. SG-1 may have that classic charm, has the most episodes and started it all but Atlantis is consistently the best.
man last time I watched the series, I was shocked at some of those space battles. For being 15 years old, there were a couple episodes that had CGI yet to be topped. I remember thinking, holy shit I don't remember this! OK I'll just re-watch the whole show now (lol)
The Shrine was an absolutely amazing and heartbreaking episode as we see Rodney slowly slip away due to the alien parasite. The acting from everyone involved, but especially David Hewlett, was amazing and the emotions everyone was feeling felt very real. In my opinion The Shrine is perhaps the best episode of Stargate Atlantis.
@@mitchell7621 Right!? That would have been awesome to see. I know in the comic books they were supposed to be secretly created by the Ancient Janus to be used to defeat the Wraith. But I have a theory about them if the show were to continue. I theorize that in that reality, the Vanair (Pegasus Asgard) had found one Janus's secret outpost before finding the Altero device on Atlantis. The Vanair do what they do best, they begin to clone and recreate these alien's and program them to defeat the Wraith. The ships seem to be made to burrow into the hull of Wraith Hive and Cruiser ships, and in the comics they cannot be feed on by the Wraith. Making them a formidable enemy. The Vanair also have head chip that is rightly different but very similar to that of "Daedalus Variations aliens". I believe the Vanair are using them as an army to help them complete their true goal, to save their own species from their own cloning issue. The Wraith hinderd them from their work. ( Season 5, episodes - Lost tribe & First Contact.) Once the Vanair had found the location of the Altero device on Atlantis they began attacks to retrieve it not caring if Atlantis was destroyed as we saw in the episode Daedalus Variations. Know this device is an Endgame device they wouldn't mind destroying Atlantis and everyone on it because as the said, "The Ends Justify The Means." Lol I dont know, it was something that I thought would have been pretty cool to see. But at the end of the day it's just a theory I had. 😉👍
This entire list was given huge validity when I saw it included "The Shrine" episode my favorite of the series. Which even I find surprising most of the time as one of my favorites if not favorite episode from Sg1 is "Prometheus" which is when we find out earth finally has its own starship. Both very different but that only makes it more apparent how good the story and acting were in that episode.
While I love, The Shrine, it is, Vegas, which is my S5 fave. All of my other faves include Todd, who is hands down my fave character, which is saying a lot considering how good all the other characters are.
Christopher Heyerdahl is great in everything I have seen him in. He was exceptional in this show but he really knocked it out of the park in Hell on Wheels.
All great episodes! My all time favorite is one of the last episodes. Alternative universe and Sheppard is a Vegas cop hunting down a wraith seriously into Metal. Close second is the episode where Sheppard and Beckett team up with an all girl SG team and have to deal with some seriously creepy bug human hybrids. We totally need another SG series!
My two favorite episodes of the show were "Poisioning the Well" and "Michael." Although the show explored a broad spectrum of different themes, to me, "Stargate Atlantis," at its core, was a military science fiction series about the types of moral and ethical decisions that military service members must make while fighting a war. What differentiated it from "Battlestar Galactica (2004)" and "Space: Above and Beyond" was that it was more subtle and nuanced in how it went about it. These two episodes in particular addressed it head on, asking some really good questions in the process. To me, they are a big part of why "Stargate Atlantis" remains one of my favorite science fiction shows of all time.

What a powerful episode to end the list... definitely a surprise that the season 5 finale wasn't the top for that season; that shot of the Atlantis overlooking San Francisco bay was incredible. Even the episode before, taking place in the alternate timeline that leads into the finale was amazing. I kinda just love alternate timeline episodes. Can't wait for the SGU tops! Although... top 2 episode might be a bit too short for a video lol
The list was enjoyable but I disagree over handling of multiple part episodes I think they should be considered as one episode taking part in the season they began airing, so in this regard you're missing a pick for season 2 I would very much appreciate it if you would reply with the title of the "second" highest voted episode

All the episodes mentioned in this video are mainly Rodney episodes. Building Fran, making the hyper drive work on Atlantis. OK Zelenka helped. There I said it. But don't give him too much credit, it really goes to his head.
Such a great show. I re-watch the entire thing two or three times a year while walking on my treadmill. I also re-watch Stargate: SG-1 each year too. I am on the 10 season of SG-1 now and only have about 5 episodes left then I will start SGA again. Great, great shows that get better with each viewing. I really wish we could get another series with the same tone and some more great stories. Fans are eager for something like Stargate again but Hollywood is too busy making Star Trek Dark or Captain Picard Dark or some other nonsense.

Such a great series. Took the already great formula from SG1 and amped it up to 11. I wish we could have gotten more instead of the trash we got in Universe.

I dont agree, SGU was very good, and i love the carchters in this show. Its not like SG1 or SGA but its good in its own way. The first season was build up abd season 2 was real good, if the show was get 5 season like SGA get im sure you love it evntuelly.
In my own personal rankings, The Seige, Part 3 and The Return, Part 2 are top of their respective seasons as in this list. I put The Seige, Part 2 second in series 1 behind only Before I Sleep, and Be All My Sins Remember’d 4th behind Midway (3rd), The Last Man (2nd) and Lifeline (top) in series 4. In series 5 I disagree most with this ranking, with The Shrine coming in just 8th, with the top 7 in my opinion being (from top to seventh): Ghost in the Machine, The Daedalus Variations, The Lost Tribe, First Contact, Vegas, Enemy at the Gate and The Prodigal. Guess I’m a bit more of a Weir fan than the average :)
In season 4 Be All My Sins would have been my favorite except something I found as a flaw. They had no secondary and tertiary objectives in their plans for the attack on the replicator. Why didn't they try to get a few zpms. They didn't need to detonate all of them in the initial plan. Also, once the replicator were pulled out of their ships, why not beam a few qualified individuals to pilot them out. Right before the planet goes you can clearly see about a dozen Arora class ships undamaged and just floating there. They could have increased the size of their fleet, and gotten a hold on the zpms that powered those ships.
That is all true except had they done that it would have completely changed the story being told. Writers would have had to introduce yet another new threat to match. By that time it's also possible that Mallozzi, Cooper and Wright knew they had only one more season to bring possible finality to the current Arc.
I love the part in the shrine were McKay uses his disease to fake he doesn't remember Shepard's name. It was a great stress reliever and funny as hell.
The result of season 5 is in my oppinion stupid. Vegas should be the best, second best is enemy at the gate, third is that 2 episodes with asgards (first contact and ?-?). Shrine is in my oppinion maybe somewhere about fourth place. But Shrine is still really great episode. And season 4 winner is in my oppinion Last man.
I dont agree with this list. I watched SG1 list and I mostly agreed with the choices, but the picks for this series are eh... most of them were finale episodes. I dont think they were the best episodes of the seasons. They were merely the best episodes with cliffhangers

@@coeusdarksoul2855 I've met quite a few people who don't like McKay. In my opinion, 99.999% of his growth was at the very end. He was always getting into trouble or complaining about Sheppard's Kirk complex and it wasn't until Keller took an interest in him that he grew out of childish ways. But you're entitled to your opinion also. I don't have anything against the actor, I just didn't like the character.
Without Rodney's brilliance at fixing ancient shit they would have gone down the tubes quicker than he got into trouble. His Kirk Jones were just that jibes

Loved the Daedalus Variations for it's own self-contained story, that has all the best beats of Stargate.

The Atlantis expedition would have DESTROYED the Wraith with 3 Ancient ships in 3 episodes flat. Not very good for a sci fi show.
