@@Rudii213 as an italian I will say that this game is 50/50 and Switzerland have looked slightly better in their group games. Italy struggle to get their strikers into the game, and on the whole don’t seem a very confident team at the moment. So a Swiss victory would not be a surprise.

Romania against Belgium after minute 50' had the momentum and had VERY important chances but they didn't manage to score.
I expect more passion for Romania vs Netherlands. I think it will be a total war on the pitch and the game will lead to penalties.

No one predicted Austria would come in first, not even myself; I hoped for second. But now, it's done-we're on top. Facing Turkey, some Turkish fans even told me they believe Austria will win, which is significant given their patriotic nature. For me, it's one game at a time. If we beat Turkey, we’ve achieved our goal, no matter what happens next. However, if we make it to the finals, I hope we face Germany. I believe they are currently stronger than France, and to be honest, if we reach the finals, I want to compete against the strongest possible opponent.

Austria should probably be the favourites, they may not have the best team on paper but the consistently good football puts them top imo.. however I believe Belgium against Romania is the best performance of the tournament so far.

An Austria - Germany final would be by far the best final a neutral could want. It has more than good players, it has history, rivalry, culture and a shared mother tongue.

Am I crazy in not being overly impressed with Germany yet? Hungary and Scotland have both been terrible and they weren't that great against the only solid team they've faced in Switzerland.

At this point, I'm happy with Romania, win or loss. Call me crazy but I can see them qualify to the semis. They topped their group with Switzerland, getting 4 out of 6 pts and beat dark horse Ukraine through excellent counter-play. Unfortunately with Romania, you never know what team you will get offensively but as long as they execute defensively, it is anyones game in PK!

Being put against Netherlands was the worst pick for us. We lost almost always against them in all of the football history. I would like a miracle but the odds are against us.
I don't quite understand how you put Austria through over England purely based on how England have played in the group stage but then put France through over Germany when France have also been almost as dissapointing as England in the group stage

One of the things Rangnick has cleverly done is continually rotate his team, changing a few players each game to try keep that freshness. It’s something Southgate should maybe have done especially when thinking of energy levels

Austria England would be the ultimate (kinda) style comparison. If Austria beat us it will probably kill off this 'tournament football' idea. And if Austria burnout and England win, then we probably vindicate this drab football style we've seen.
Füllkrug is by far the best option for Germany. Imgine starting maches for Germany and only scoring 1 (Havertz) while Füllkrug comes from the bench to score 2 in only 73 mins in the competition so far, as compared to Havertz 211 mins.
I don't see England having any realistic chance, so my hopes would be on Austria winning the tournament.

Italy (I think they're good enough to beat Switzerland but it'll be a good match), England, Netherlands, Austria (though I guarantee both they and Turkey will get a buttload of yellow/red cards here), Germany, Spain, France, Portugal

Italy, Netherlands (if they keep their head in the game unlike last encounter, they do have what it takes to beat Austria), Spain (I do wish Germany the best but I think Spain is just too strong), Portugal (I can see Ronaldo bodying France, they've been a joke for what's supposed to be the reigning world champion).

As a French supporter I hope you’re right. But I really doubt it. I know our team shows up when it matters, but we’ve been absolutely awful. There is no cohesion offensively and we are so reliant on Mbappe that if he has a bad game we can’t score.
France have the same issue as England. A wealth of talent, with a manager that doesn’t know how to use it. Although I appreciate Deschamps for what he has done as both a player and a manager, his success as a manager has never been because of his tactical nous. It’s the players and his man management. But we’ve been found out. The tactics revolve around pragmatic, defensive football and with counter attacks. And the player don’t know what to do when a team it’s deep. I don’t think the belief that pragmatism wins tournaments is valid anymore. I would be shocked if we get past a team as well organised as Germany.
Or maybe all of that is bollocks and we’ll somehow find a way to win.
I agree that the English draw looks fortunate based on opposition form and names. It is also true, that was the case for more than just this tournament. What I would like to add - if you would set Italy after convincing performance against Switzerland and Netherlands in semis, I think things get tricky for England anyway
For Spain v Germany, I said Musiala at the exact same time as you Jimbo. I just think he has so much x factor, when he turns it on and puts Germany on his back, it's so impressive.

Slovak fan here. Realistically speaking, I don't think our team belongs to the top eight (not that I would mind) however I would like England to really earn it. That is, no questionable referee calls and good football from both sides. Our team already did what they set out to do and they even made some waves in the process by beating Belgium. Unless the game is a blowout I'll be happy with whatever outcome. England, Italy and the Netherlands enjoy the better side of the bracket but whatever team ends up winning the other side is the top contender for me.

Italy has good chance of making into the final considering they are relatively in easier side of round 16. Italy doesn't have star players but they have an excellent defence and an goalkeeper. They use to be very calculative in their approach especially in knockouts and knows how much efforts needed to win games. That's the reason, they are currently defending euro champion and 4 times WC winner.

@rafayetrasti6191 Southgate has had England play conservatively in the Group Stage to not tire out his players too much. It’s unnecessary to be so aggressive when it’s very easy to qualify for the RO16 thanks to 4/6 3rd placed teams making it out. It’s quite a genius strategy by Southgate.
As for Slovakia, I’m not saying they’re bad. They’re just average. They got a lucky win against Belgium (Lukaku squandered a lot of good chances) and lost to last place Ukraine.
France have been so poor so far, I agree up until the final - I think it will Germany vs Austria with Germany winning 1 - 0

What you missed about the belgium-Ukraine game is how belgium set up. Tedesco knew that ukraine needed to win, so he played a very safe game with a "come at us" mentality. Now, you might not think that is a favourable way to play for belgium (I don't), but I guess it got the job done on the day.

I think Austria will fall short if they come up against Netherlands for a second time. I think they’ll fade away as the tournament progresses; I also think that Netherlands can play much better than they did in the last group game - Dumfries/Frimpong will make a big difference for them. I think we might see one or two more upsets in the last 16 too.

I think best case scenario, every choice you made at first bar the Belgium one. I’d hope Belgium pull it off vs France but lose to Portugal. Germany vs Austria in the final would be the best if we’re being honest.

For me, I'm now saying a Germany vs Netherlands final. I think Germany being on their home turf will drag them through past Spain and then France in the semis. I think Austria will beat Turkey but I actually think they will lose the rematch with Netherlands due to them now having some expectation from people. Netherlands haven't played that badly and should've beat France and I can't see England, Italy or Switzerland beating them on that side of the draw. I think Germany win the final against them though.
