What is it like to work in a children's home?
Unless you have already worked in a children's home, you may assume Tracey Beaker is a somewhat accurate representation, but this couldn't be further from the truth.
As a family owned, private provider of children's residential services, we are proud to have some of the highest Ofsted ratings in the industry, working closely with a number of local authorities to take care of children requiring specialist care and support, which can include therapy, and sometimes education.
You may be watching this video considering a career with Hexagon Care, which is great, but here are some things to bear in mind in addition to the short video!
-This isn't a 'dead-end' job... there are progression opportunities and we have a clear pay and grading framework that shows you what is required to get to the next stage of your career.
-If you're looking for something short-term or alongside your studies as a stop gap please ensure you are available for a minimum of 12 months. It isn't fair on the young people in our care to form positive relationships with staff to have them not stick around.
-Most of our children's homes work on a '1 shift on, 2 shifts off' basis, meaning you may be in the home for a full day, followed by sleeping in at the home. You would then be off for 2 days! This averages out at 37 hours per week in most homes.
