The area under the curve of the DM around the 400-600hz is huge! That's the signature of the DM, making a beefier sound than the og HM2. Psychoacoustically, the HM2 sounds "deviant and gnarly", the DM is more "threatening". Eventhough both are chainsaw, one complements the other instead of being same-ish, wich is great. On a more pragmatical standpoint, the DM should shine on any amp with a fender-like EQ curve (strong mid cut compensated by the DM's mid area).
One of my fave pedals to use in the middle of an HM-2 mix. I like how his prices aren't too steep, but the quality is all there regardless. You should check out the Redrum pedal too. The gain on the DM is insane.
Hmmmm...I was thinking the same thing about using the DM to thicken up my HM-2 when recording. Ordered one yesterday, for some Sludge, but can't wait to slip it into my OSSDM recordings.
I LOVE my Dungeon Master. It has elements of Big Muff and FZ-2 mixed with HM-2. The most brutal pedal I've ever played. Not the most chainsaw sound, but overall just nasty and very loud. I keep everything maxed except the High that I reduce just like 10% from max.
I'm running a 1993 gibson les Paul studio into the DM into a rat into a cr120c on the dirty channel with slight reverb from the amp ( around 2 ) and it definitely dooms. The dungeon master is a funny little pedal but I absolutely love it and couldn't see my amp without it.
great comparison! just a dumb newbie question :) ... any reason why the dungeon master I have art home, as soon as I swithch it on, does a lot of hiss/noise? I dont see your one doing so :/ thanks in advance
@@DomeNightbearer I used a 9v battery and it worked pefect, no hiss, nor noise... It may be down to the power supply then. May you have any recomendations as Im looking for a powerBank to plug different pedals all at once? Thanks in advance :)
Supposedly it has gain stages from the Superfuzz and Muff, through the EQ circuit of the HM-2. I love all of these things but the Dungeon Master did not replace any of these pedals for me.

The chainsaw is such a beautiful sound. I really like how this pedal does it
I've had mine for a few years now and I think it's best for some nasty stoner/doom/drone kinda stuff. It also works great with some single coils.
It's my go-to bass fuzz. Absolutely brutal
*light bulb just went off* Thank you!!!!
Agreed. Done heard a lot of bassfuzz, and it's uplifting to hear something different AND affordable. Big props, Idiotbox.
Awesome been waiting for this comparison. 🤘😈
This is HM-2 with 300 kg of pure fat.
I really like his Death Master.
Just ordered a dungeon master, great vid!

Nice comparison. Keep it up.
imo the dm has a doomier sound
The Dungeon Master reacts the opposite of the HM-2: The HM-2 sounds better with a distorted amp but the DM sounds better through a clean amp.
I run mine through an Acapulco Gold and an EQ after into a clean amp and it's just perfect

might be too much gain/high end in you signal or just a faulty/cheap power supply.

I use Cioks Power supplies exclusively. They are the best imho!
Love mine. It mixes 3 of my 4 favorite pedals. Put a rat infront and you can destroy everything

Wrote my comment before finishing watching - seems like we are on the same page for this one!
Still prefer the hm2
