I just love what’s going on in the background of your videos lately. The water and the sky and the clouds and that wide angle lens make me feel like I’m actually in the boat with you. Another great video!!👊🏼
okay. just found you and your channel through this video that popped up. subscribed. you sir are EXTREMWLY professional and well spoken and informative and mature. great freakin job man
Thank you so much for the kind words Rich! My whole goal on this channel is to teach people how to catch more fish, and I believe that the best is yet to come in terms of my content! So glad to have you along for the ride
Thanx for a good lesson👍 about right hand retrive, in Sweden it is 90% lefthand retrive, right hand for me. Perhaps i have to come over and try some punching soon🤙
I like how you mention not pitching and having to switch hands everytime i use a lefthanded reel so i dont have that problem i always wonder why guys flip and then switch the rod to the other hand evertime loosing alot of time on the water awesome tip bro
I use both hands when flipping which was something I developed over time without purposely knowing I was doing it. I really don’t find there is that much of a delay since I set the hook using either hand. I will admit there have been a few times that I have missed strike due to that split second delay, but usually those situations occurred when I had taken my attention away from he flip in search of a new spot to flip to. I have even had larger bass almost pull my rod from my hand when pitching into pencil reeds. The another very important tip is to pay full attention to your pitch until you have brought it out of the water and are getting ready to flip to a new location.
Dude thanks so much for even taking the time to make a video like this!!!! I just found your channel last week and I really appreciate your videos!!! Thanks so much
Man wish I could afford a setup for the type of fishing just moved to Louisiana from Arizona and never seen so much vegetation in waters before but when I can I will practice thanks to you and your instructive videos thank you and god bless
I've watched so many bass fishing videos over the years and I think this is the first time I have heard someone mention upstate New York. I live up here and I wonder if other than the pros who fish there if some youtubers even know it exists. Thanks for mentioning it!
Oh boy, you are in for a treat! I have fished in upstate many times, and have so many videos on my channel. I will even have about 10 coming out over the next few weeks from the St. Lawrence River
my Lews superduty 300 has a spool engage on the thumb bar so you can punch with whichever hand you prefer! Good informative video, you have some good knowledge for a young guy! lol
Your tutorials are top notch. Going to give some of these tips a shot as soon as I can. Got a new 7'4" Lews heavy flipping stick to pair up with my trusty Mach 1. I'll practice all damn day and if I get just one flipping bite pretty sure the whole lake will hear about it. Keep the great vids coming!
6.5.1-7.5.1 gear ratio reels are better for flipping and punching mats. The higher gear ratios like 8.0.1 or higher don't have the torque or ie winch power to get bass out as easy.
Ehhh maybe older cheaper reels. These nowadays are strong enough, and a fast gear ratio allows me to make many many more presentations than your slow one
@@TylersReelFishing Well I use A newer 7.5.1 that has 24lbs drag. 8.0.1 and higher gear ratio reels, really aren't designed to be flipping in heavy cover. If it works for you that is all that matters.
Dude. You should be an instructor (if you're not already). Great video! This is a complicated form of fishing but I feel more confident about doing it now than I did before watching. Thanks a ton! Keep it up! New Subscriber.
I know this is an old video, but I’m wondering what bobber stops you would use for 65 lb braid? My store has three “sizes” of VMC bobber stops. Do you have any information you could give me on which ones to get?
Thanks for your videos man. I like how in depth you are with your videos. I been doing it wrong for so long even though punching is something I've done most of the time. As a matter of fact most of my best Bass have been punching with senkos and less than a 1/4 oz weight. I've lost so much 16Lbs line and hooks because of it. I have a heavy duty rod specifically for that and it has been sitting on my rod rack for about a year. Time for a better set up.
Bro!! I don't know how you weren't on my radar being from East Texas! I live in CENTEX, But there frequently hunting the Lufkin area! You ever wanna spend time on Belton lake, hit me up. I'll give you a place to stay!
Can you recommend a good budget flipping rod? And possibly specs to look for in regular all purpose rods that could work for flipping? Thanks for the video though. Flipping and punching is something I want to get into this season.
@@TylersReelFishing yeah I saw that, but it's 150 for the rod and 300 for the reel. That's why I was asking about a budget one. Or at least what specs should I look for so I can find one in a more reasonable price point.
I've seen some videos where people follow the lure/line down with their rod, but I just started punching and even in 3-5 ft of water it seemed like it felt more natural to have the spool tension loose enough where it just sank down on its own (and thumbing it like you). Any thoughts on this?
Hey Tyler. The grass matts in my pond are so thick that I end up dragging huge clumps of grass every time I retrieve my punching rig. It takes long and it's not very efficient. Is there any way to avoid that? I have a very streamlined presentation (1oz tungsten flipping weight w/ a texas rigged beaver style bait).
In that scenario, I would just say to find some different mats to flip. I am assuming that the grass you are fishing is not actually a mat, but is more of just a solid clump. The fish would not be in those anyways since there is no habitat underneath for them to live in. I could be wrong, but that sounds like what it is to me
I am rite along side you, right handed but spinning or bait caster every reels is left. With baitcasting I don't see why everyone changes hands after casting, even many top pros don't know why they do it.
I’m left handed and use a right hand retrieve. I taught myself so I just did what felt best. It made more sense to keep the rod in my dominant hand. Doesn’t take near as much coordination to reel the handle so I use my dummy hand for that 🤷♂️
Same. I just don't like switching hands. Right-handed, grew up as a kid with a right-handed spincaster, but when I got my first spinning reel, I had to change it to the left. It feels so much more natural to cast and play with the lure with my right without having to swap. Getting used to reeling it in with my left took all of 5 minutes. Baitcasters feel even more natural with my right, and it makes no sense to swap after casting.
Youre bringing your bait in so quick you arent gonna give a big bass time to move to it. You do it right when showing the movement techniques... but in your little section on how to go about flipping, you literally are coming off like you should be throwing the bait in for 1/4 second and ripping it out. Maybe should have explained you were exagerating
With punching, The bait should be in the area for a max of 4 to 5 seconds, which I showed. Punching is about creating a reaction, not enticing a fish to swim from a long ways away. In thick vegetation, a fish most likely wouldn’t even know it was there if the fish was a few feet away from where I flipped. That is why you have to make many repetitive flips throughout the grassy mat
No doubt that milfoil is a fun grass to fish and flip! BUT if you look at the top lakes in the country, one thing is constant: Hydrilla. It grows the fastest out of any invasive grass, and is statistically shown to produce the best habitat for a predator ecosystem
I just love what’s going on in the background of your videos lately. The water and the sky and the clouds and that wide angle lens make me feel like I’m actually in the boat with you. Another great video!!👊🏼

bass not having eye lids as a reason for them being in cover is one of the longest running bass myths

In Florida, what month is the mats the thickest? Do you still use only 1&1/4- 1&1/2 weight for okeechobee?
