    This was more than fun and entertaining (that too!), this was a great review! Whether someone agrees with your decisions or likes the camera or not, you were quick, methodical, interesting, information-packed, no-nonsense. You quickly and easily covered the basics and a bunch more. I especially liked the demos: vivid, illustrative, well placed. The venue was good for this, too. This is among the best handled reviews I've seen. Thanks for putting this together. Great job!

    Ive praised this guy on another of his videos, but he is establishing himself as the benchmark on youtube for camera reviews. I think hes superb the way he summarises lots of detail about cameras into small speeches so he doesnt go on too much. Im actually looking for a camera that shoots 1080p @ 60fps and also has the ability to take quality photos, seems the 3300 could be a good choice. Anything else you could recommend against the 3300 ?

So good to watch and listen to positive information without all the droning technical stuff that generally just makes my eyes glaze over :-) and also great to watch a reviewer who doesn't rely on sarcasm to get a point across ... ala the chaps on Digitalrevtv ...thanks for this review

    Wow, that was an amazing product review. I'm blown away. You and your team are fantastic. I just purchased my first SLR camera last week and yes, it's the NIKON D3300 (black) with an SB-700 Flash and WiFi adapter. I finally upgraded from my Pentax MX 35mm. Yes, I'm old school ;) I'm very excited about entering the world of digital photography finally and I know that I have a lot to learn. I couldn't grasp whether or not some of your great shots were from auto mode or whether you were using your manual technical proficiencies. You're obviously an expert. I assume it is a combination of both. Thank you for your great review of the camera. It is really helpful to a newbie like me. I've got a lot to learn over here in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada!!! All the best!

    Great review Chris but after "that being said" ...why not do a comparison video of the nikon 3300 vs the Pentax k50?..since canon hasn't released any new entry level dslr...it would be nice to see someone show how good the Pentax entry level cameras compared to the so called "popular" brand ones out there.

  • @RomirBannerjee
    @RomirBannerjee 10 років тому

    I understand your comment about lack of an ISO button for anybody used to one; however, you should look into Nikon's Auto ISO feature (All Nikon DSLRs) -- basically you can set Min ISO, Max ISO 'AND' Minimum shutter speed. The camera takes care of all three aspects. So you can shoot in P or A mode and never have to worry about the shutter speed or ISO until light gets too low for the Max ISO+Min Shutter speed to be underexposing, only then would the Min Shutter drop below your set point (but it never raises ISO above your Max setting). Thanks.

    You can certainly change ISO fast. On the side of the camera there is a button labeled Fn, this is a function button which can be set to do multiple things, by default it should be set to ISO settings. Just press the button and scroll the wheel to adjust the ISO, you can even see it while looking through the viewfinder.

      Yes, you're right. I just tested the Fn button out on my new D3300 and it changes the ISO exactly like you said it would. I just got the camera a few days ago and I'm learning how to use my first DSLR. It's very cool. Thank you.

  • @Tabby0127

    I have recently just acquired the Nikon D3300, and I am impressed with it. I know it doesn't have bracketing, but my Canon Powershot SX40 HS has it, and despite trying to understand and use the bracketing feature on that camera, I still don't fully understand what it is trying to do. So, I do not really miss it on this camera. And, of course, it had all of the filters, i.e. night scene, portrait, etc., which is what this camera has too. And, I never used that feature much on the Canon. I bought this camera as a introduction into the DSLR world to be a better photographer. As I said earlier, I am impressed with what I have gotten, no gripes or complaints. I've only had it since Christmas...lol But, in conclusion, if you want the HDR, and all that other stuff, then you are going to pay for it in a different camera. It depends on your needs, your wants, and what you want to pay for in order to those things. But, for my needs and my wants I'm happy with the Nikon D3300.

    I am planning to buy the D5300(some details make me prefer it over D3300), but I am facing a dilemma when it comes to lenses. After some research I have ended up with these combinations. I would really appreciate your opinion. So:
    1)Nikon 18-55mm VR II (kit lens) + 55-300mm VR
    2)Nikon 35mm f/1,8G + 55-300mm VR
    3)Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM
    4)18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC (OS)* MACRO HSM
    Because of budget restrictions I can go only with one of these lenses or combination of lenses. What do you think??

      Canon 650D is old, if I'm correct?? You cannot push the shadows / dynamic range with old canon sensors like you can with nikon. If you're not in a big hurry and want canon, I'd say wait for them to release a "good entry level camera". That is, something that can compete in image quality with the rest of the stuff on the market. They've been behind in the sensor tech for long time now, but they have some lenses you can't get in Nikon system.

      @NeoManyon 9 років тому +1

      i owned the D3200 for 4 months or so, needed another camera and bought a 600D. I just sold the nikon and bought another canon. In practice the sensor difference is not that much. The canon just worked better, buttons in better spots, more accurate exposure, sane picture style out of the box, and more; plus if you want to tether your SLR to your laptop the canon includes the software whereas it $200 for the nikon software. If you plan to do video then "magic lantern" adds a lot of functionality.

    Hello. I've been searching for what camera to buy for about 6 months. Every time I think I've made a decision, I always back out, not wanting to make the wrong one. I think the main two it's boiled down to are the Nikon D3300 or the Pentax k-50. The d3300 is recommended all across the web as a great beginner DSLR (which I am), but once I stumbled across the k-50 I've read good reviews too. The think I am really concerned about the k-50 is the noise. I've heard it is quite noisy, and I'm not sure if that's the best for me. Also, the weight. I've actually looked into mirrorless cameras quite a bit, because I carry my camera around. With all this in mind, which would you suggest? Also, I've considered the Olympus OM-D E-M10. What about that one? I just can't make a decision.

    Which microphone system are you using? I have a mixer with wireless microphones but unfortunately it all needs to be plugged into the wall. I am looking for a microphone to record audio when I am outside.

    I really like the quality of this video. I'm still going to go look at other videos, but only for due diligence. This pretty much convinced me. I'm looking for best bang for the buck and I really think this camera is it.

      +fleshTH will the 18-55mm lens be enough for daily shoots?

    • @fleshTH
      @fleshTH 8 років тому

      +joyjoyoo 18-55mm is a good starting point. I've been doing a lot of landscape photography. I don't know how it works for portraits... i haven't been able to do any yet. I've had the camera now for about 2 months and i'm looking to get another lens, but only because my needs have changed slightly. I want more of a zoom lens. I still really like the 18-55mm for landscape and other wide angle shots.
      However, it's probably worth mentioning for anyone else. The D5300 kit for about $100 more might be a better way to go. There is one thing about the D3300 didn't know and wish i would have before i got it. It's kind of a geeky thing and doesn't matter for most people. But the CPU is ARM based and has a different API than other cameras. That matters for people who want to do firmware hacking, but it also matters for people who want to do tethered shooting. Most software (especially free software) either doesn't work well or doesn't work at all with D3300. If none of that matters to you, then this is an excellent camera and well worth it.

      fleshTH thanks so much! 5300 doesn't really appeal to me, haha! think i will get the 3300 and add another lens to it. 55 200mm perhaps =]

    Hi there.
    GREAT video! I've been looking to get myself a new DSLR and have been eyeing the D3300 for a little bit now (mainly because I like the price but didn't have the resources to by it, but I will soon!). I'm very impressed with what I've read and seen about the camera, especially when compared to the Nikon D40X that I currently have (10MP, only 3 Focus Points, 3FPS...). I do have a question about upgrading to the 3300. At 2:05 you talk about the 3300 having a "Push Button to unlock and expand" the new 18-55mm lens. Would I still be able to use the 55-200mm lens which I have (and love using) with my D40X on the 3300? Or am I screwed here and if I want a 55-200mm lens for the 3300 then I'm going to have to save up for a long time to buy a new one?
    Thanks for whatever answer you provide.

      As long as you are using the dx lense it will easily mount. Many times you can find a kit with both the 18-55 and the 55-200. I recently added the 50mm prime to my wife's 3300 and it is perfect.
