      Any chance you can get your hands on Kef ls50? I think s3000 could be good competitor with better bass extension. Just need some room treatment to fix that dip from 100-200hz.

      Only thing i miss about edifier is the tone control , that allows you to turn up down treble and bass, (physical knobs)
      Also klisch are light weight than edifier, edifier are almost double if not triple the weight.

  • @MrKeithcl
    @MrKeithcl 4 роки тому +5

    I bought the audiophile HD6 and once unboxed they didn't turn on for twenty minutes. Strangest thing, they after twenty minutes without my touching anything, just turned on! Then they started working but I sent them back afraid the amp was bad. However while I had them they sounded great, looked great and were substantially well built and heavy. The sound was sweet and smooth but seemed lacking in the bass and midrange punch. I've read others describe this same sense about them, that they seem muted some how but sounded very nice. I would describe them as very good computer speakers and nothing more. Scared off the brand I decided to purchase Edifier S3000pro's. They are taller, about the same weight, very well built, gorgeous {so are the HD6's} and once hooked up simply blew me away. I am not one to rave about much of anything but I am an audiophile person and have some very expensive Von Schweikert VR7 in my listening room and recognize HIFI when I hear it. The S3000pro are exactly that. These are not computer speakers, they are very high quality bookshelf speakers that sound very very nice, and a bit more forward then the HD6 which is very much to my liking. They do not seem bright though and that is important to understand about there forwardness. These speakers are not fatiguing at all. They also have much more tech in them then the HD6 for an extra hundred dollars you get balanced inputs and all the dsp modes. And wow they can play loud! Much louder, if you like that. When playing the HD6 loud all the sound stayed in the Den, with these the sound is all over the house. They aren't even broken in yet, that will take a few weeks but so far I am really thrilled. I paid the expedited shipping they offer and the speakers shipped the next day and were here in 2. My only complaint is that the left cabinet had a very small scratch on the wood grain and a chip in the wood that yo can feel with you finger, and one power cord, the toslink cable and the rca cable bags were already opened!!!!! I think these were demoed by someone and they resold to me. I am pretty disturbed by that and I will calling Edifier today about it. I only received these last night. I hear they have good customer service, I am about to find out. I think they should offer to send me a new left channel. We will see if they do without mentioning it. I will update later today. Well that is all for now. Keith

      An update-AFter a few weeks of wondering why edifier did not get back to me about the scratch on the speaker and open cable wires etc I fianlly got a call from the main guy in support there and he said it was an accident that he was not informed sooner and apologized. He said the speakers sent to me likely came from an amazon warehouse and were likely also a return unit that is not supposed to be sent back out before going back to edifier but if amazon was the sender then likely that quality control step was skipped. In short he immediately sent a return label for the speakers and saent a new pair to me at a 25% discount as well. Once this guy got involved *real* customer service began. As far as the new pair-they are exquisite in appearence and sound exceptional. I am very happy for such high quality bookshelf speakers. The dsp modes are fun but mostly I play on the natural one. Cheers,

    I always liked this channel for not having biased video titles. Is this a change for the worse? I find this title to be more of a click-bait. I happen to like both brand speakers, but these are different speakers designed for different purposes. Edifier does not own Klipsch here - the added bass response comes at the expense of less defined high and mid-high frequencies. Like many other Klipsch bookshelves, these are designed for accurate dynamic sound and are meant to be paired with a subwoofer for the extra bass response - then you get the best of both worlds. Edifiers having roots primarily in multimedia speakers aim more for the complete range frequency response and for that make some sacrifices in the accuracy. Edifiers are more for multimedia and movies, Klipsches are more for pure music listening, but with the sub added can also excel in other applications.

    • @stevenjiang1423
      @stevenjiang1423 4 роки тому +13

      It's just a title to you, but it means everything to the creator. He's trying something new and it works better than the old system. The algorithm promotes these video titles over "documentation style" videos and subsequently the non-flashy videos are left out to dry. Clicking on a video because the title is interesting is just how UA-cam and its core audience works. Just look at how his recent previous videos have done with/without clickbait titles. Change has to happen for progress to occur once you've hit a certain limit.
      If the creator likes a speaker over another, keep in mind that he is the one in person auditioning the speakers, which is recorded through a microphone (which may or may not record what they actually sound like) in his house, and then gets to your ears. To come up with your own opinion, you can just listen to the sounds produced by the speakers.

I still like this channel an continue to subscribe. You might have noticed I did not dislike the video. I just shared my concern with the author. Hi Suleyman. Regarding the tiltles, I get where you are coming from, they do exaggerate a bit to spike interest of passing viewer, this is UA-cam AD2019 for you, you have draw the eyes somehow to survive.
      On the other hand I stand behind title of this video wholehartedly, Edifier does wipes the floor with bass performance of Klipsch. I do not buy the argument that R51PM is designed to work with subwoofer, first of all Klipsch is not stating anywhere that R51PM should be used with subwoofer for proper bass response, so you buy full sized speaker expecting it to sound fullbodied ,that in the end sounds like a glorified satellite speaker.
      Second of all just simply adding subwoofer does not fix its problems. If you buy a inexpensive "boombox" style subwoofer than you are actually making overall sound worse, so you have spend decend money to even match what Edifier offers. Than again even the proper subwoofer must be properly placed and than tuned to achive proper balance, which is a lot of hassle and does not guarantee proper blending due to room modes etc. Another problem of Klipsch is that it runs out of steam much earlier than any decent subwoofer connected to it, I can push Edifier much louder withhout distortion and keep the proper balance between lows and the rest of the spectrum

    I'm no audiophile, I just purchased a set of r-51PM because, well, Klipsch. I will say from listening to this, especially the Metal Head track, the Klipsch sound "bright" and seem to lose or should I say have mid's rolled off, in comparision to the Edifier, that unit sounded more "balanced" (?) forgive my not using the correct terms, but I do know that Klipsch do need some time to "break in", I've also added the Klipsch R-120SW because my r-51 allows me to add a sub. In any case, I think it comes down to what you like to hear, what your ears find pleasing to listen to. But I'll say the Edifer's sound more full and balanced in my opinion. Does this mean I'll return my Klipsch? Nah, because I like a more bright tone on the high ends. Also, just curious to know, are both speakers a V shape audio patter or do they differ from each other? The Edifier 3000s have been winning a *lot* of these head-to-heads, but they're also $800 from Amazon (at that kind of money why not go passive and then modularize future upgrades?) and there are also some nagging criticisms on the build-quality side. Surely there's a $300-$500 powered bookshelf alternative that sounds nice and won't fall apart in nine months?

    • @mircea5013

      I'm not saying Edifiers are great, to be honest never listened to them. But I don't get this modularization you're talking about. People seem to buy amps and speakers then sell amps and sell speakers and so on. What benefit is there? You're selling everything anyway, that's what hi-fi enthusiasts are doing. With an active speaker you just sell it and get whatever the hell you want instead: another pair of actives, or amp and passive, w/e. Why is an active speaker more impractical? Because it seems to me it's the other way around! Certain amps don't go with certain speakers, but you don't know what amp goes with what speaker because manufacturers don't say anything about it. So?

    • @CinemaDemocratica
      @CinemaDemocratica Рік тому

      @@mircea5013 I could have explained that better but the point I was trying to make is that the $800 speakers being auditioned here are powered, so if you want to upgrade anything later, you'd either have to go with another powered speaker, or start from scratch with an amp and passive speakers. In my experience -- which sounds like it might be different from yours -- audiophiles enjoy switching-out individual pieces of their kit, independently.
      So for example I had a pair of Linn Ninkas which sounded great with a Naim Nait 5i, but the Nait wasn't ever going to power the Salk Songtowers that I wanted to try, so after settling on the Songtowers I went and auditioned a series of amps until finally settling on ... the Naim Nait 5i that I already had, and which ran the Songtowers just fine, thank you very much. I was able to swap the speakers but, in the end, keep the amp. That's not something you can even sniff at for the same price as a pair of Edifier r1850db's, but it begins to be just-about-possible for $800.
      The whole appeal of powered speakers, it seems to me, is that you're getting the entire rig for a very affordable entry point. If instead you're paying Rotel-and-Wharfdale prices to get this particular model, then it seems to me that you're sacrificing the chance to swap out individual ingredients, but without gaining on money left over. Seems silly to me but YMMV. It sounds like your experience of the hobby is more about wholesale replacement anyway when it's time to move in a different direction, in which case the drawback that I'm describing here wouldn't bite as bad.

    • @mircea5013
      @mircea5013 Рік тому

      @@CinemaDemocratica It's not that I disagree with you that going amp+passive is modular. It's just that by getting an active speaker *that you like how it sounds* is sufficient. You can't swap the amp, but then again you shouldn't, right? By getting passive speakers you just create a new world of problems, where you need to match the amp with the speakers and you get into the buy and resale part trying to mess with it over and over until you end up selling both of them anyway. Maybe not both at once, but in the end you basically swap the whole system.
      So my opinion is, this is probably somewhat of a hifi enthusiast hobby.
      What I would be more interested in is: are these speakers better than an equivalently priced amp+speakers? Because this isn't usually compared anywhere. And I might just make some purchases, simply compare them myself, and return what I don't like.

    • @CinemaDemocratica
      @CinemaDemocratica Рік тому

      I think this is much more a case of having a different mindset and/or a different set of antecedent experiences with the hobby, than it is of one of us being right and the other being wrong. Clearly a separate amp and passive speakers will, yes, afford greater flexibility regardless of price-point, but when you say "an equivalently priced amp + speakers," I'm getting a mental picture of a world in which there are finite alternatives, which is much less obvious at an $800 entry point than a $300 one.
      Exactly how would one go about assuring one's self that an $800 powered speaker sounds better than "an" equivalently priced amp + speakers, when the array of choices fitting the description of "an" equivalently priced amp and speakers are, themselves, so much more numerous, and so immensely different from each other, too?
      You could get a Yamaha integrated and a pair of Klipsch Kg4's for $800, or you could get an Arcam FMJ-23 and a pair of Vandersteens, and those two rigs would have almost nothing in common sonically. You can't do that with a $300 budget: There just aren't enough viable alternatives in that price-point that the sacrifice in flexibility is a problem for the Edifiers. Which is why I think -- from my own perspective -- powered speakers are a much more sensible solution when $300 is what you've budgeted to spend, as opposed to $800.

    • @mircea5013
      @mircea5013 Рік тому

      @@CinemaDemocratica Well, for one thing, the Edifier s3000 Pro II is about $500, not 800 (in Europe at least). Really, not that many options, because for one, the most important tool are the speakers, and then the amp (considering it provides enough power). Then you need a pair of good speakers with preferably a 6.5" woofer that has some bass (as the Edifier also has). So that leaves us with some entry level amp, and MA Bronze 100, Q acoustics 3030i. That's about it. And in both cases, it will be a bit more expensive, like $600, we'll call it even. So I'm not so sure I wold have so many variants.
      And yes, comparisons between passive and active speakers can be done: pick a reasonably priced amp and start comparing speakers. Real world scenario. No one does it unfortunately.

    As someone who really enjoys the sound of the R-15PM, I feel like the S3000Pro is the better speaker here. That said, I'm actually impressed that the R-51PM hold up as well as it does given the price gap between the two models. Which along with the difference in woofer size make these odd companions for a comparison video. S3000Pro defiantly does best the R-51PM in the bass department, as it should given it's larger woofer. But I was really expecting to hear more difference in the highs and mids given the different tweeter designs. There are few instances where the S3000Pro seems like it has the advantage in the upper treble region (and the graph seems to reflect this), but it's hardly a night and day difference. In fact sound signature-wise these two seem remarkably close. If anything I'm more disappointed in the S3000Pro for not owning Kipsch throughout the entire spectrum than I am in the R-51PM for under preforming in the bass region. For what it's worth though, I don't entirely trust the compressed audio on UA-cam to tell the whole picture, especially when it comes to highs. Just curious, but did you turn off the bass management feature on the R-51PM when doing this comparison?

      please, i would like to ask you a question, do you still recommend the klipsch r-15pm? i am looking at the second hand market with the idea of getting a better quality audio with my budget, and i really like the klispchs.
      I ask you a question please to you that you have them, how they behave in a use for pc and to connect them to the tv to watch movies and series? in my personal case, I'm not much of giving too much volume, so I'm looking for something that at low volume gives enough quality midrange and treble, and above all the maximum distinction of the different sounds, such as when there is a scene of a forest, the sound of the wind, the rustling of branches, the singing of birds ... I do not know if I explain, I'm totally new to this, I prefer to have that quality rather than having a bass that tarnish the sound.
      please, if i send you a couple of links, would it be possible to upload a sample video of how they sound to get an idea? you don't know how much i would appreciate it

      @@josegonzalez-xf2se I think the R-15PM are great for use with a TV, not as great for use with a PC. I really haven't found a better pair of speaker for use with a TV from a feature standpoint. The R-15PM will wake from sleep when they detect a signal and go to sleep when there is no signal. I've been able to pair Fire Stick remotes, Chromecast remotes, and cable box remotes for volume control as well. Their somewhat bright sound also tends to help with dialog. There's a fare amount of hiss that comes the tweeter though. That makes far less suited for a nearfield setup like a PC. They also don't have a ton of bass. That's never really bothered me, but it's still worth noting. I really don't recommend them at full retail price, but if you can get them at a discount then they're worth considering.

    $799 "Audiophile" speakers have better lower mids than speakers Best Buy is selling for $299 at the moment? Shocking. Seriously, clearly more depth in the low-mids on the S3000's, and I felt as though the Klipsch handled the rest of the mid-range better. In the context of "thumping" bass, neither pair will alone be adequate, and I thought the high frequencies were even other than some distortion on the S3000's. Bass of the Edifier in Dynamic pretty much owns everything, but i guess youre in Monitor mode here, which is at least better than Classic mode. But still not good enough to significantly beat a DSP boosted 3.5" driver such as iLoud lol. iLoud is the epitome of using DSP to make the great sound. RP51 bass has always been low and needs a subwoofer. But we get to compare to Klipsch's signature tweeter -- with the same result as always. Klipsch horn loaded tweeters always sound echoey and like it's coming from a tube (pretty much is lol). Still an interesting video using the future of speakers (DSP) vs the past (passive crossovers). Passive crossovers get the whole amplified signal, then chop off the frequencies they don't need which is wasteful and adds noise. Also can't easily fine tune different frequencies to a more dynamic and enjoyable sound. That's exactly why you should be using the S3000pro in dynamic mode. Cos its more dynamic, it's exciting to listen to music. It has a detailed wow factor cos the highs and lows are more pronounced so you can actually hear what's going on in the bass and the highs. Yes it creates a V shape, but the details it reveals are insane.

      Just adding a subwoofer to Klipsch does not make it great system automatically. I own previous model, R15PM, which is more or less the same speaker in slightly different cabinet, and to get bass like in S3000Pro you also have to have good quality sub (SVS SB1000 was connected to my pair) than properly place it to avoid room modes, and than properly dial it together to achive proper blend which is problematic and hard to achive. With 2.0 system operating in full spectrum you avoid all of those problems

Though there is minimal distortion, moderate volume the s1000db are working hard enough to notice a breakdown in balance of frequency to fill a large room. While the s3000pro don’t even break a sweat and remain perfectly balanced with far more depth, stage, bass control and smoother highs. Think about just that: 120w vs 256w. Like I said before, they are not even in the same league. You will not be disappointed if you get the 3000s. And let me know what you think when you do. I disagree with the 1000s being better value. The S3000s were made more to be a stand-alone pair and claim to have 'room shattering base' all by themselves with a response down to a claimed 38hz (from 6.5") and reaching all the way up to 40Khz.

      @@midniteoyl8913 that is not changing the fact that R51PM got owned by S3000Pro bass wise. Wouldn't you agree? Just because Klipsch claimed they created speaker with weak bass does not make it OK

      @@DSAUDIOreview - I agree that in this test the bass was better with the S3000's, but it wasn't really a fair one as for the money of the S3000's, you can do a lot better with Klipsch. I mean, for $800 you could get both 8" and 10" subs to pair with the Klipsch's, still be money ahead and have much better sound and bass.
      I like what you do and am subscribed, and so far this is the only comparison I have trouble with, but as I said above, this wasn't really an apples to apples comparison.

      Again, I have to disagree. Simply adding a subwoofer does not make everything ok. I have tried to blend a subwoofer with the old R15PM (which is basically the same speaker with different tube and slightly different cabinet look) and I could not achive the same kind of bass response from 2.1 system as from full range 2.0. Problems come from subwoofer placement, room nods and the fact that subwoofer will be playing mono. The depth may be there but you will hear the sub as a separate source of sound most of the time. Another problem is that R51PM can not play really loud without distorting and becoming shouty and uncomfortable to listen. R51PM gives up earlier than the sub will and earlier than S3000Pro will. The sub I used was SVS SB1000. For music I would still choose S3000Pro over R51PM + sub. For movies I would give a slight nod to Klipsch plus sub combo, as long as the level is kept within its limits

    Klipsch is smoother and easier on the ear. Edifier sounds like an exagerated PC boom box

    This comparison is in no way a fair comparison. The Edifier are larger(6.5 in. woofer) and twice the power the Klipsch (5.25 in woofer) has. Klipsch is 60 watts x 2 for 120 watts vs Edifier 120 watts x 2 for 240 watts . Shame on DS for this
