Hey I’m Josh from Adelaide, South Australia. I'm a proud father of 3 and passionate about heavy music.
I was the bass player for post-hardcore/alternative rock group Capulet from 2004-2012, releasing an album, EP and several demos.
Capulet were signed to Red Bull and the Taperjean Music Group alongside Closure in Moscow and The Mission in Motion.
Highlights of my music career were playing with amazing bands like Anberlin, Emery, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Haste the Day, Awaken I Am, and touring Australia several times.
I wasn’t the most technical bass player, but lived for performing on stage. I have always loved the process of song writing and the visual art that accompanies music.

The singer screams like that, and then I talked to him in person is he is the most calm, gentle, soft spoken, with a shy smile. Chilling.
I've found the same with Max Cavalera, Tom Araya, Chris Cornell and many other singers I've met.
They need to put on a show when performing on stage because people are watching/listening and everything needs to be 'perfect'
so its completely normal to leave the stage 'act' on the stage and become "human" again, or normal, like you and me.
imagine he continued with the stage act when talking to you, you'd become deaf.
I would totally love if Mike and the rest of the boys got Hybrid Theory to do something with them at some point. That would be sick

So, you said you wanted a stop-watch to time it. I just timed it 2x, to double check.
He held it for 16.86.
On the album verson of the song (I had to go dig my old CD out to double check my time), Chester held it for... exactly 16.86 seconds.
This kid is good. I don’t know anyone who can get that kind of vocal fry, and sustain it for that length of time.

It's nothing more than a trick called vocal compression of the false vocal cords. It looks like it's being screamed, but in reality, it's a very quiet sound being compressed with very little air coming out. Then, the audio equipment of course amplifies it. Here's a short video short explaining it a bit. It's super easy and not impressive. What's impressive is Chester's masterful melody and lyric writing, telling us the story of HIS and only HIS life. They actually play this song midway through the concert which makes it even more impressive for Ivo to nail the scream! Had the chance to see them live for 3 times now and to share a few beers with the band. Such chill guys.
It would be cool if they used their talents to find their own identities and write their own story and songs. It's weird that they're earning a huge living taking Chester's painful lyrics and story and just parroting. He's using voice compression to hold that note. It's not hard once you figure out how to do it. You barely expel any air at all as you're compressing it all within the false vocal cords. It's amazing how much the compressors, working with the amps, eq's, and reverb can make it sound like you're screaming your balls off.

I imagine he'd roll his eyes as these guys are adding no originality, just parroting. Ever heard a band record a cover, like Sinead Oconner covering Prince's "Nothing Compares?" Some artists cover and add unique elements to make a different version of a song. These guys are nothing more than a cover band profiting majorly off of mimicking Linkin Park, when in fact those lyrics and such as so personal to Chester that I find it disrespectful. I hope they have to give 80%+ of their proceeds to LP, but sadly, they don't. It's all covered by a venues insurance and payments to BMI and ASCAP.

@@The_Mysterious_derpa I don't like cover bands but I don't need to minimize them for that, because they are doing it well, Mike wouldn't roll his eyes because he would understand the tribute, he just doesn't like it when cover bands try to imitate everything from them, it ends up looking weird.
Just saw them this weekend and they are fabulous, the level of perfection in their cover tribute is insane.
Indeed the singer has an unbelievable skill to sing and scream like Chester, some of 'em even actually look like the guys from Linkin Park. It's almost as if there's a reincarnation/duplicate glitch in the matrix situation going on. I'll happily pay every time they're around to see them play, amazing band to support that deserve total respect.

I saw him sing live last weekend, in central Portugal (Vila de Rei), and it was a great show. he has a voice very similar to chester's voice

I’ve seen them last weekend and their show is AMAZING 🔥 they don’t try to look like the original, they are just the best tribute band ever. Also, during that scream, I saw a boy looking at his mom with absolutely crazy eyes like “wait, can I scream like that?!” I guess his Mom is going to have problems at home 🤣🤣🤣🤣
But they do try to look like them. Look at their most recent big show where the Shinoda clone wears the baseball hat, has the beard, plugs, scruffy facial hair...., where the bassist looks exactly the same, where the singer wears a white tank top and shaves his head, where the "Brad" guitarist of the band wears the big headphones, etc... It's creepy.

Great reaction! These guys are fantastic! Hybrid Theory boys have it dialed in! I would totally go see them and pay what they are asking for tickets. This doesn't just "happen" with bands. It's a 1 in 1000 chance that they could gel and rock this hard just as hard as LP did live. Dj, drums, guitar, bass, synth and backing tracks DUDE do you know how difficult it would be to perform at such a high level? Big props to Hybrid Theory, they have taken "Tribute band" to another level for real!

I stop watched it and it was just under 17 seconds. Like 16.5 but still highly impressive!!! He does sound so much Like Chester it gives chills. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
He reduced the scream down to vocal fry only, which makes it a lot easier to hit that duration without running out of air. It's very different from how Chester did it, where it was a full voice scream the whole time. And even then, this guy couldn't slide the note down in the middle with anywhere near the level of control. It's an admirable effort, but as always, Chester's vocals are untouchable.

Yeah it's real, I'm Portuguese and i watched them 3 times, they have concerts all over the world right now. Definetly worth to watch they are amazing, Chester is Reborn! Legends never die 💟
I think part of the problem is it's his natural voice anyway. I think they naturally sound alike enough that he would be accused of copying Chester either way so he just decided to be a tribute.

It's crazy to think that he has gotten better in recent years, saw them perform given up a couple months ago and for a second I saw God lmao
The only detail I can share is that Chester used to hide his singing was difficult as hell and even in very high notes he never struggle to reach the notes, it was a property from him to share a poker face. And this guy sounds like he is hurting his vocal cords.

Eh... I'm a huge Chester fan, but from around just after Meteora there *was* a bit of talk that it was starting to be apparent that years of raw screaming were finally making it harder and more painful for him to easily switch between reaching his highs. That kind of just comes with the territory though.
It actually sounds like he's incorporating vocal frys. There are safe techniques, and it's sounds like he used them.
@@JoeySourlisVoiceover yeh, I myself used to sing ina metal band and was a very poppy voice, heard chester and was like he has that similar sorta poppy clean how does he sing metal. so I learnt to chester sing, no where near him he is the master. but I can do it. its actually a combo of a few things chester would do, and why he is so good is he does it with little effort and perfect control. so you look up videos on fry screaming. its same but not , so what chester does when he sings is like a toned down / half way between fry screaming and or false chord screaming singing, its the same techniques but with such perfect control he is able to sing through them. so take points of authority, listen to the chorus of that when he does the throughhhh you can hear its like no tight note its distorted thats actually false chord singing so done in the throat low down. but listen to say crawling its fry singing and he would jump between each perfectly , you can pick out which is which. false chord is that like jumpy sound on the word through in points, the full fry is more tight like crawling chorus.. if you get it right there safe as hell, but gettin the lvl of control chester had whilst being able to consistently hit the notes at same time is just why he is so one of a kind

I saw HT live some months ago and they're amazing. Obviously, his voice si crazy but if you have followed Chester from the beginning you easily realize that Chester is one and only and the strength and potential on his voice is incomparable. Anyway, I can say this band can make happy many fans of Linkin Park worldwide, about all those people that unfortunately didn't get the chance to see them live at least once.

I've been following these guys for a while yeah dude is amazing. He's as close as we can get to Chester. I'd love for some one to at least get them to america they are really only touring in Portugal and they go out to France and Germany here and there but man us Americans would die.
They've toured in Australia, India, New Zealand, Brazil, besides many countries in Portugal.
I am Portuguese and I am going to see them live September 2nd, I have a wedding but I'll leave to see them.
