    10:00 In keeping with the elimination of Rik Mayall's work, if you watch Ron's lips closely, you can see that he actually says "Peeves" not "People".

    To the one who asked who owned the Sorting Hat originally, it was Gryffindor. I just heard that this evening through the audio book for Goblet of Fire.

    6:06 Try the Harry Potter games for the Gameboy Color.
    No, I'm serious. They actually follow the books closer than the movies, and the first one in particular is basically the last ever incarnation of HP that was someone's original vision of the story without heavy influence from the movies all over it. (Though Snape looks a bit more like Alan Rickman than the actual book counterpart, but hey.) They have Peeves. They have the Midnight Duel, complete with Neville. They have the 50-pence piece the Dursleys sent Harry for Christmas that just sits in your inventory doing nothing for the rest of the game. They don't have Quidditch until the second game though. And even then, gameboy game.
    As one final note of their level of attention to detail: Currency in the games is simplified to just sickles. When Harry gets his wand, it's noted that it cost 119 Sickles. This is exactly enough to make up the seven galleons it cost in the book.

    Hermione refusing to talk to Ron and then acting high and mighty when they get paired up explains a lot more about why Ron was being a jerk. She already was snubbing them, so it was kinda her own fault they were mad at her. The movie made Ron look solely at fault for something Hermione contributed to.

    • @sethhoeffner6814
      @sethhoeffner6814 Місяць тому +1

      Agreed. Hermione does start out as kind of stuck up with the attitude of "Don't break the rules." and "How do you expect to pass if you don't study?" However, that attitude gradually changes as the main part of her character development, eventually leading to her becoming great friends with the others, which is why she's one of my favorite characters.

      It's not the study attitude
      She was litterally giving him the silent treatment for a week.

    Here's a funny fact:
    I live nearish where the Troll Hallway scene (and many others) was filmed (Gloucester Cathedral) and as Ron and Harry were hiding behind the pillars they see the troll walking down a hallway/doorway as lightning flashes, thing is in real life that's a window so if it was shown from another angle he'd be jumping out a window 😂 also the same pillars are in half blood prince when Snape confronts Draco but they're still careful not to show the window

    Yes, it’s annoying that this payback, and that he tried to get them expelled twice, wasn’t in the movie. But the trio, for example, was horribly casted, and, in an interview, Alan Rickman (who, ironically, was forced by his family to play Snape, so was Jason Issacs and both of the Dumbledore actors) had a letter where Rickman said that the trio didn’t take their roles seriously, and they admitted, later on, that they were terrible actors because they didn’t get any other roles in movies like these.
    Also I really hope that the tv series fails miserably, and that Charles Dance, for example, plays Dumbledore, with the dialogue almost exactly like the books, and while wearing the purple star and moon clothing, with the high black boots.
    The only good things in these first two movies is that the casting for Flitwick, Filtch, and lighting is done extremely well, and they got Voldemort’s first design and voice (not the cgi) spot on!

      Daniel Radcliffe did a great job as a young David Copperfield in the BBC miniseries. You should watch it.
      Child actors are almost never professional because they are _kids_ and don't have the experience. It's the responsibility of their handlers to keep them on task. I imagine it was difficult with so many kids, especially for the first film when the novelty of being not just in any film, but a Harry Potter film had not worn off.

    • @factorfantasyweekly
      @factorfantasyweekly  Місяць тому +1

      Child acting is very difficult to nail. Especially since for most of the roles they did open casting calls, the acting was expected to get better over the years. I take the first movie very lightly in this regard.

      The change came with the new director, and technically in film 3 Warwick Davis wasn't playing Flitwick who wasn't scheduled to be in that film, he's just credited as "Wizard". I imagine everyone involved liked it better. Less time for Davis in the makeup chair, it looks (objectively) better if you don't care about him not dressing much like a wizard; considering how the films seemed to move away from the whimsical classic witch and wizard type of costumes for the rest of the cast, it makes sense.

    The movies made Hermione an all knowing girl- boss and relegated Ron to comedic stooge. The writers should have stuck to the source material. The books are the reason the movies exist and had proved that they were well written. No need to change them. Sure, movies can't include every chapter of a book. But movie writers should rewrite parts of the books for no other reason than their vision or ego.

    • @dashsocur
      @dashsocur Місяць тому +2

      True, the problem is that there was never any chance that Hermione wasn't going to shine in the first movie as the director only got Rowling's blessing "because" Hermione was his favorite character. Rowling flat out stated in multiple interviews that she'd had lots of pitches from people who liked Ron best and she was rather tired of hearing that (since that was the most common opinion in the fandom prior to the movies). Once he set that precedent, the other directors more or less followed through with it (for continuity's sake if nothing else).

    My mom and I were talking about Harry, Ron and Hermione in the bathroom with the troll and when he gets the wand jammed up the nose, one of the reaction channels I watch said, “Oh, that’s that covid test!” When I told her about that, she cracked up and said that that is about what it’s like. 😂

    Wood having golf balls isn't terribly surprising (they are in Scotland after all) ; however the logistics of Rowling's wizarding society only make sense if you don't think about them, not to mention the lack of knowledge of Muggle society by the general wizarding populace. Rowling seems very selective in what some wizards know about Muggles.
    The films are even worse in carrying over ordinary Muggle-items into Wizarding life (e.g. Rowling made a big deal about people wearing robes and strange hats breaking cover and openly roaming the streets when Voldemort unalived himself, and how Muggle clothing looked strange to Wizards, but in the movies, the students dress like kids anywhere, but with black robes on top).
    What kind of wizard would independently develop a neck-tie, or trainers, or jumpers (or a frigging _train_ for that matter)? Given how small the Wizarding population is, it's surprising that all Hogwarts graduates don't get jobs in the Ministry for Magic. Who manufacturers goods for all the shops? Grows the food? Writes the newspapers? It just doesn't make sense, so you just have to suspend your disbelief and enjoy the story.

    After hearing this, I do agree with the opinion on Harry getting back at Malfoy. Regardless of source, I do get enjoyment out of the moments where anything bad happens to him considering Malfoy is one of the strongest examples I've seen (or read about, as the case may be) of characters whom everyone loves to hate, especially since he doesn't have any qualities that I know of to make him likable unlike some other antagonists I'm familiar with.

      Considering that his fellow wizard classmates don’t know what soccer is, the most popular sport in the world (especially Europe), I think it’s safe to assume he wouldn’t have known golf. 😂
      However, as another commenter pointed out, there are a lot of inconsistencies in Rowling’s wizarding world mixing with the muggle world.
