Following Sam Warburton's comments that Ireland are the best team in the world, Victor Matfield and Swys de Bruin are not buying that arguement in any way. - Спорт
“Best” team is just a talking point for the media. Most would probably agree that between SA, NZ, Ireland and France right now there is no clear odds-on favorite and it will just come down to who is best on the day. That being said, South Africa are the back to back champions and reigning champions because they have won the games that matter. It’s cold comfort for us Ireland fans that we have beaten them in our last few meetings or that we won a series in NZ because the fact is that we still lost to NZ in the QF when it mattered.
unfortunately i think France had their best shot at last year's world cup. they slumped in the 6 nations. Ireland though are still excellent..but it must be deeply worrying to them that both Leinster + Munster crashed out
To me As a Kiwi and how i look at it is The Best team in the world is the Team currently holding the world cup and that is South Africa
For us South Africans, the benchmark is the All Blacks, always.

@@lebo5281true story, in the past we have lost to Wales, Argentina and Australia in the same year...wasn't looking good, the wheels are coming off...but if we beat the all blacks...all is good we're ok😂
@thewezz0809 Sweet bro. 😂 Victor Matfield is among one of the best humans that played the game. From an AB fan
At the moment yes but the further away we get from the RWC the less relevance it has at the top of the rankings. That is why the WR's are the best indicator as while the RWC win is most important now, if SA have 1 or 2 bad sessions over the next 2 years that gap at the top can be chipped at and eventually lead to SA falling behind other nations.
I'm Irish and South Africa are the best because they're World Champions.
A knockout competition every four years doesn't mean you are the best. Ireland beat them in the World Cup.

Sam Warburton is one of the guys who never gave SA the deserved respect. I remember in the beginning of the URC he said that the SA teams bring nothing to the competition and look now how he was proven wrong😂 but other than that I think nobody is speaking about New Zealand, I feel like they could possibly become the best team in the world this year if we are not careful. They will be our biggest test this year even more so than Ireland.
Wot Ireland, are u mad,as a bok fan,its ALWAYS against the all blacks! There's nothing and no1,Ireland, that compares to Bokke v abs, period! The last 100 years is testament to that fact, and saffas love that rivalry!👌💯🤟💪💪💪🤝🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

The ultimate sign of respect for Ireland from South Africa is just how much Ireland live and breathe in their head and get under their skin🤣

As a South African, I will always be wary of Ireland, but I only stress when we play New Zealand.
It means more to me to be beat the All Blacks than to beat the Zombies.
The South Africa / New Zealand rivalry has got to be the greatest in rugby history.
Yes , and now there is a new one :)
Zombies,, youve won world cups, why soo soo bitter against a team like Ireland.
Weirdos,
@fonz114 Not bitter at all. The Irish fans have started something that their team can't seem to finish ~!
The "Best team in the world" is subjective between world cups. South Africa have definitely won the games that mattered most in the last 5 years (2 World Cups and a Lions series). Ireland are an extremely powerful and well coached side that will continue to strongly test all the other top sides, including SA. NZ are always strong and it will be interesting to see how they perform under the new coaching structure. They are likely to be even better over these next 4 years. France have some phenomenal players. England might be on the Up again and could become very dangerous. It will also be interesting to see if Australia progress under Joe Schmidt. We are likely to see some fantastic games this year. Enjoy the rugby and the rivalry, without getting too bent out of shape by it.
The Springboks are the best team, they have the trophies to prove it. Everything else you said are just noise.

Bullshit. What rock have you been living under?
Besides the Irish pundits sensationalising Ireland by saying they are the best in the world, the players and fans were not that arrogant to say they were and if they did it was to wind up a South African or a Kiwi…When some of the players were questioned in interviews (Tadhg Furlong being one) about being ranked No. 1 in the world, they shook their heads and said “who knows how these rankings are made up”
There is very little between all the top 4 or 5 teams, thats all i know. We all know the semis were actually one side of the quarters in the last RWC.
Just enjoy it, it's going to be a belter. Both teams with a point to prove "again" 😂
Im hearing this phrase a lot. Very little between the top 4. If that’s the case the. How come one team has won back to back RWCs. And Lions series during Covid. Ranking mean FA until global calendar

This is so hilarious. Ireland lives in SA’s heads rent free. 😂
Yeah, minnows are in the heads of the sport's most successful team.
Yes, Ireland absolutely is living rent free in the heads of the South Africans and this is a terrible thing for Ireland.
Rassie makes it personal. He shows the players clips of people calling the players boring, overrated, one dimensional, etc. He literally uses the pundits to make his players made. To paraphrase Rassie, "emotion lasts for five minutes. Making it personal lasts the full 80."

Listen, guys, let it not upset you. That's all they can do, namely say they are the best. If you can't win the World Cup, what's the only thing you can do? Just say you are the best. That's all you can do. I don't want to be disrespectful. I do think they play great rugby, but until now, they haven't delivered when it really mattered. Easy solution? Just say you are the best.
Nobody in Ireland is saying they are the best team in the world, the South Africans are saying that just to G the south African fans up. The punditry propaganda coming out of South Africa is comical
I'm irish by the way
I can't wait for the series to kick off
@@user-br5en8sf8gIts the media hype machine. Ireland players aren't saying it. And I bet that if someone actually looked at what Warburton had said, it's probably something to the extent of "they might be the best team in the world."
Springboks are world champions, but they can't really claim to be "best in the world", when outside of 3 knock out games last year(that they won each by a single point), they haven't been up to much.
They've won one Rugby Championsip in 12 years, are these guys seriously claiming those don't matter either.
Ireland can't claim it either. To be honest, there is no clear answer to that question at the moment, it seems like the home team would win any of the games between the top sides at the moment
You bring up championships in the last 12years. is the question who's been the best team in the last 12 years, the last year, the last 4 years? Question is, right now who is the best team in the world. and fortunately there was a tournament last year where that question was settled. They were the last team standing. So how can they be anything but "best in the world" when that was the point of the exercise.
@@daggaboomthey lost to Ireland last time they played in that tournament, so no it doesn’t decide who’s the best in the world.
It’s a knockout competition where luck plays a part.
Ireland faced the All blacks playing literally the best game they played in 4 years, springboks faced them down a man for most of the game.
If you want a competition to prove who’s best, you need a round robin where the best is decided by everyone playing everyone, and luck is averaged out over many games.
Like I said SA are champions(and they deserved it, they were the best team on those three days), but you can’t lose that many games (Rassie has literally never beaten Ireland) and claim you’re the best
@@peadarr I’ll get right on to world rugby and let them know paedarr knows better.
As for clinging to the man down nonsense. If a team cannot get their discipline together then that’s on them make all the excuses you want. It just shows you’re not ready to deal with reality. The record is clear. Springboks in a World Cup will win it half the time and worst performance is quarter finals exit. Ireland best performance is quarter final. Springboks prepare for the challenge in front of them better than anyone else. If it was a round robin tournament then the prep would be for that and I think they’d win that too considering the depth in players is way better for the springboks and the round robin will take a much higher toll on player injury.
@@daggaboom the truth is the best team in the professional era is undoubtedly the All blacks, and particular the 2015 All blacks.
They won back to back World cups, held the number one ranking for pretty much a decade, won 7/8 rugby championships/tri nations, got the record for the most consecutive wins of any tier 1 nation and won both those RWCs without losing a match.
This springboks side don’t come close to that.
They could claim to be the best in the world because they won everything they competed in.
@@peadarr you are all over the place. Have you settled on what you want to define as the time span we’re going to use to determine who’s the best? Cause I 100% agree with your conclusion on the time you’ve defined. But it does demonstrate your inability to deal with the here and now state of international rugby. Under raeburn defences, AB’s no doubt. Under raeburn holders springboks no doubt. But one guy in the comment section continually shifting definitions for what constitutes the best in the world when all the pro’s themselves don’t debate it seems like a remarkably stupid exercise. Also they just won 3 knock out games last year. Ireland can’t win a single knockout game, ever.
Currently South Africa. But as a kiwi im always confident we can beat them.
Much ado about nothing.
This obsession with the Bulls win over Leinster is nonsense. Leinster are all in on Europe, the URC playoffs you’re just playing a demoralised Leinster. Leinster lost to Bulls at home in 2022, then Ireland won a test series in New Zealand and won 17 test matches in a row beating everyone. It means nothing. I would also say Leinster are a poorly coached side since Stuart Lancaster left
Agreed, but with one important caveat: both Ireland and Leinster have developed an alarming habit of choking in knock out rugby. I think that and the fact that several teams have worked out how to nullify their attacking game has taken the shine off the team. They're still perfectly capable of beating the Boks away.
@davesmith826 Losing matches by the finest of margins doesn't mean you choke. Get a grip. The last few Leinster finals could have gone either way. Leinster is 2nd in all time table of Euro Cup wins, ffs.!
@davesmith826 Ireland played better against NZ than SA with ireland only losing by a flip of a coin while SA played against a 14 man AB team for 30mins and had the ref disallow a try which they had to publicly apologise for. Ko rugby is a flip of a coin, it's unfair to call Ireland a qf team because had they played anybody but the ABs who had targeted that one game for a year they would probably have gotten through especially if they had been rewarded for topping the pool of death.
@@user-is9of Cope brother! You know, as I know, who the best team is. It is not Ireland. Pappa wag vir julle! 🤣
@@stephendoherty981 And what do you think determines which way a tight match goes? One side grabs the nettle, the other doesn't. Leinster have developed a tendency to choke and the Irish national side have too, at least in the World Cup.
A year ago, after winning the 6N which was a year after they won a series in NZ, Ireland were ranked number one and tipped to do well in the World Cup. They did not went out in the QF. SA went on to win with three one point victories in the knockout phase. Ireland narrowly lost to England in the 6N in a game they wear missing their starting 15, 14 and 13. In 2022, 2023 and 2024 they have lost just three games. This suggests they are one of the best. France have had an off year after losing the World Cup QF, NZ are rebuilding and England look good. With home advantage and the greatest depth, I would not be surprised if SA won the series and beat NZ in the RC. If they do, they would unquestionably be the best in 2024.
The RWC shows who the best team is for the 2 months the RWC is played... the truth is that the 2011-2015 All Blacks didn't get this treatment because they had like a 90% win rate, and completly destroyed teams in the RWC, meanwhile, the Springboks won all their KO games by one point and lost a pool stage match, against a team that they failed to win throughout the entire cycle. They also failed to win the Rugby Championship in its full format, even when they got to play the ABs twice at home...
It's not disrespectful to say the Springboks aren't on the same level as the 2011-2015 All Blacks
I do get you, but you have to take into account how rough COVID had been on the Boks. I don't think there is one other team in the top 10-15 playing nations that went as long without playing a single test. The Rugby Championship became a tri nation tournament without South Africa.
The coaching team had to try combinations and they had to try these combinations in games that they wouldn't usually do, die to the truncated schedule.
So while the Springboks certainly weren't as dominant as the 2015 All Blacks, there is a massive caveat in there.
@@randomlyfactual1943 Sure, the COVID can be an argument, but that only works up until 2022. The truth is that both in 2022 and 2023 the springboks just weren't as dominant s the 2015 ABs.
1- failed to win the Rugby Championship against the worst ABs team ever, while playing twice at home against them
2- won the RWC by one point in every knockout match, meanwhile the ABs destroyed every opponent and went unbeaten, something the Springboks can't say for themselves
@@joaofigueiras1106 I'll be honest with you, I don't think there is a team in history that is as talented and as dominant as the All Blacks from 2011 on to 2015. I am a huge fan of Richie McCaw and an even bigger one of Daniel Carter, so trust me when I say that I would never take anything away from that team.
Point I'm trying to make is that the unfortunate timing of COVID and the relatively slow way we had the infection numbers go up, really screwed us over in our attempt to be as dominant, as it meant that while other countries were recovering, we were still in the middle of the fight. I'm not saying we would have been as rampant as the All Blacks had been following our world cup win, but it would have been nice if we had had a fair shot at it.
Again, not to disrespect the All Blacks in any way, but they did have their fumbles during the RWC in those years. They were absolutely terrible against the French in the 2011 final and I think even the most hardened All Black supporter would agree with me that France could and maybe should have won that match; France that were decisively beaten by NZ as well as Tonga early on. In 2015, the ABs beat the Boks by only two points; the same Bok side that lost against Japan and had no business getting anywhere near the All Blacks on the scoreboard.
In 2023, the Boks did win three close games, but consider the opposition; the best French side ever in front of a rampant home crowd, England in cold and wet conditions and three time world champions New Zealand in the final.
Yes, maybe we weren't the tyrants New Zealand had been in 2015, bit I don't think any team in history had a harder route to the trophy than last year's Springboks.
@@joaofigueiras1106 Oh I forgot to argue the first paragraph. Apologies.
So in your world cup cycle, you obviously have three years to prepare and the fourth to do your fine tuning. During the first year, you have to take stock of injuries and try new combinations. Some will work, some will not. In the second year you would typically see the combinations you tried be tried a bit more to allow them to settle.
So when we were finally allowed to play rugby again, we were halfway through year two, having lost two full seasons both domestically and internationally. We were out of shape, had a lot of ring rust and Rassie had no opportunity to test any of the guys he wanted to test.
The end result? You have a trade off between whether you want to win tests or build depth. Picking new talent is always risky and in some cases it won't pay off.
@@randomlyfactual1943 Don't get me wrong, I still think this Springboks team is easily Top3 of all time. But I don't understand how Victor Matfield is so shocked on why people doubt this Springbok team. They just have proven time and time again that they are beatable, how can they say that they are categorically the best if they can't even beat Ireland or win the Rugby Championship.
That's the reason they get different treatment from the 2011-15 All Blacks, it's not hard to understand.

Yes, congratulations. The Springboks have won 4 World Cups in the men's competition. They have also competed in two less world cups than the All Blacks, the Springboks have won 50% of it. Cute that you want to combine all the other competitions, but it doesn't work that way.
So your women’s team is better than the men’s. Got it. Shall we let the men’s Springboks play the women’s All Blacks to settle who’s the best?
I wonder how that would go!

Only in the period since 1996 has New Zealand enjoyed a winning percentage, but it’s marginal (an 11 game swing in 30 years). As a South African I can say that Ireland deserve all the plaudits they get as they have been fantastic over the last couple of years in particular. Including beating us at the WC (we might have been experimenting with the team but that is our issue - they beat what we put before them). If they really were claiming that right now they are the best in the world I would be annoyed. However, all I've heard them say is that they want to show how good they are against SA. That leinster team will not make up 14 of the starting 15 they will make 10 at most. Ireland barely lost to an ABs team who didn't get red carded with 35 mins left unlike a certain other team
Ireland has won zero world cups, have never progressed past the Quarter Finals. As for "a certain team" they have won 4 World Cups, went back to back in the last two, and won 50% of the World Cups they participated in. They have also won the last 2 British & Irish Lions tours, 9 out of 14, and drew 1 overall. Those are the facts. Oh before I forget, Ireland has never won a test series against South Africa. Poor Sam Warburton😄 He wasn't even the best welsh player in his position. His biggest ever achievement is winning the annual 6 nations😂
Yho this guy is not a good host. He must let the experts debate maan. He must not stop a flowing conversation.
Ireland is the best team based on probably the last 30 test played. As a Saffa you have to be fair, Ireland won two six nations in a row, they beat the Boks in the last 3 tests played, they beat the All Blacks in NZ. They are at least in the top 3 in the world. The Boks shouldn't underestimate them. The margins between the top four is cigarette paper thin. Anyone of the top four can beat each other on the day. The Boks should definitely not be complacent. This Irish team are coming to SA to win both tests.
Uh huh, how many test series have they won in SA? ZERO. The Springboks are the best team, if their back 2 back world cups, with the B&I Lions series win in between, does not convince you of that, this series will. The Irish will go home with ZERO wins.
No one cares about the 6 nations. The world cup is the only trofee that matters.
No. New Zealand are the best.
To call out Sam is fair enough, not sure why they're getting pissy with the Irish when Sam is Welsh but whatever. But they lose all credibility with everything they say after. All the talk of wanting recognition for being back to back world champions only to then say that the back to back 6Ns winners are 4th if they're lucky? Victor Matfield clearly took too many hits to his head in his career.
Ireland did get convincingly beaten by England in the last 6N and Leinster were convincingly beaten by the Bulls a while back.
That said, there are no grounds for claiming Ireland are fourth in the world as they're doing a damn sight better than the French and only narrowly lost to the All Blacks. At worst, they could be no. 3. At best, no. 1. I suspect the forthcoming series will be a draw and leave this question unanswered.
@@davesmith826 Leinster lost to Bulls and then Ireland went to NZ to win a series. England beat Ireland with a last min drop goal. Not sure convincing is the word I'd use. SA should still win the series 2-0 if you ask me. I'd only be worried about how many of their big players are playing in Japan. I felt these sabbaticals played a huge part in why NZ was quite poor in the last WC cycle.
Now, Ireland are 3rd at least, because we're better than France. Whose to know vs the ABs

Rugby is the fifth sport in Ireland with a tiny pool of players compared to SA, NZ, France and England etc. If it was their first game, they would have a few WC medals. They kick well above their weight.
Rugby is a religion in SA and of course you will win the WC. Give credit to Ireland for being where they are with 20,000 adult players, most of whom play junior rugby for clubs. I'm South African I love watching Argentina rugby matches.
Jesus christ the arrogance. Sa are No.1. World Champs. The disregard for Ireland here beggers belief.
Just let Ireland be the Best team... then they can stop complaining...
The only ones complaining is South Africans. Sam isn't even Irish. These are saying the back to back 6N champions are 4th if they're lucky?
@@liamwilliams6651 oh please.... 6 Nations... cannot be compared to the RWC Trophy...
@@user-sd5xe5dz2t I'm not comparing them though am I? They said 4th if we're lucky. Implying we are probably 5th behind two other 6Ns sides. And their justification is a one off game of Leinster against the Bulls? All of the complaining has come from Saffas saying Ireland is arrogant. Point me to one person who has said Ireland are the best.
@@liamwilliams6651 Cool.... enjoy the series... 6 and 13 July 🏉
@@user-sd5xe5dz2t I will enjoy it. Fully expect a 2-0 series win for SA. Just sick and tired of the obsession you lot have for us.
I don't understand why people care so much about what people saying about who is the best. Let face is, a third world country from Africa who had to kiss the feet is now beating them. That the reason why the European countries are crying. How can the slave beat the master.
Yes Talk alot of sxxt about SA but still we are good enough for them for nice vacations in South Africa.
