It is a massive privilege to have a #watchitplayed Rodney video. You are a master at what you do my friend. Thank you!!
Thanks for all your help as I worked on the script Nate - a pleasure to share your game!
Seriously. It's so much nicer to teach games from Rodney, wish you had a video for every popular game out there.
Loved the box top flip at the end.
"First try" - Batman
Like a boss.
This is honestly one of the best table top games I've ever played. My wife and I LOVE this game! Can we get a play through on this channel?
Thank you @STM!
Perhaps! Glad you've been enjoying the game :)
@@WatchItPlayed You should cover the newly released adventures version. I'm think g of picking this game up. Looks great and thanks for the video
Who are your favorite characters?
@@joerobertson7709
I'm not sure if I have a favorite, but I generally tend to lean toward the characters to medium to high complexity.
Great job Rodney on the camera placement and the rules, you knocked it out of the park brother. Now we need a play through with Luke and you, this a great father and son game!
We'll see :)
I love that it is easy to understand. I'm barely learning that games like this can be fun, and im new to board games like this. This channel is amazing and very helpful.
Ernesto, that is very kind of you to say, and I'm very happy to have you watching and learning more about the hobby!
I do like the new format.
I do too
Thanks Patrick - good to hear!
The aesthetics alone are amazing! Such a clean looking game.
I think this is a nice game to have on the channel for a game series. It is relatively fast and easy to understand.
Thanks for the interest cartoon!
Dice throne is fantastic. I didn't think I'd like it, but was really surprised how well it played, and how much I enjoyed myself.
So glad to hear!
OH! I never knew there were indexes in description until I read it on BGG today! That is so great! Quality work Rodney!
Yes! We have this on many of our videos, which can help people jump to specific sections if they need to look up a particular rule. Hope it helps!
It feels more personal to watch you take it off your shelf and walk over to the table. I know it is nothing game changing but I think it comes across like you are inviting us to your table to learn a game.
I hope we get to see a play through of this one. It has been on my radar for a while and I even saw the two player pack at Barnes & Nobles the other day. I wasn't sure if it was an expansion or not. Thanks for clearing that up.
Have you played all of the characters yet? Which one is your favorite?
I haven't played all of them yet. I think I've played six.
Dice Throne is me and my husband's favorite game by far, and "Watch it Played" is our go-to stop for game info. So cool to see Dice Throne on this channel! Thank you, Rodney for this awesome video! Hope to see a play-through with your kids soon! :)
Thanks to you both for the kind words Lori!
Just bought this game recently on a whim, haven't played it yet but after watching this video I'm super excited!
I hope you have a god time getting it to your table!
I absolutely LOVE this game! Just take my money ... I’ll buy anything to do with Dice Throne! This has brought me and my family to the table almost every night since I got it! Loved this video and look forward to more content you dish out!
Thank you ferris, glad this one has been a winner for you!
This has to be the best game I've played. So glad I discovered it. I'm completely hooked on Dice Throne.
So nice to know you've been enjoying it!
Love the format Rodney. Keep up the great work.
Now, for the really important part.
Luke...Rodney...

Ha!
I feel that it should be known that I watched this video yesterday and purchased season 1 and pre-ordered season 2 today! Kudos and thanks to Rodney and Roxley. I appreciate you and am looking forward to playing with the Lady!
Hey hey - I hope you both have a great time playing. Glad the video was a help!
There is also a Dice Throne community Facebook Group page for questions concerning the game, filled with other players (& the designers I believe)!
We do indeed frequent that group. We love actually *engaging* with our community :D

I've been part of the Kickstarter campaign for Season 2. This game is a must, period! Merci Rod :)
Thank you @Jestermask!
Rodney! this is perfect! I was reading the rule book the other day and wishing: hope WIP has a Dice throne season 2 tutorial!! you rock!!
Hey hey - here for you my friend!
Wow i have not heard of this game til watching. I need to go buy it now!
Thanks for checking it out Christian!
Thanks for the great video, Rodney.
My wife and I have season 1 and the first half of season 2 (Gunslinger vs Samurai, Huntress vs Tactician) and it is our favourite game to play together.
Very well balanced, easy to pick up and tons of fun. One of the best two player games out there.
So glad to hear you enjoyed this one!
The new format is awesome Rodney!! Feels much more organic and welcoming in my opinion.
Thank you Dennis.
I don't often comment but seriously everyone should try this game, it's so much fun and I can't believe how well balanced it is (Gunslinger beat Vampire Lord by 1 last night! ). Guys and gals at Roxley did an amazing job, the production values are awesome and it looks lovely on the table. Highly, highly recommended.
Nice to hear you've been enjoying the game!
Oh Rodney, you with your clever integration of the tripod. You're starting to win me over to the new intro.
Thought I might be able to find an organic way to try it out, and potentially shift to using it for these openings.
It was perfect. Very funny and very smooth.
looks so cool!
i'm already fan of season 1 and can't wait to play all these season 2 characters..
this looks pretty cool. I do hope we get a play through.
We'll see!
Wow, I've never heard of this game?! I'm going to pick up season 1. Great video Rodney.
good choice! It's SO fun. You can't beat a quick game between the Barbarian and the Pyromancer. :P
A very good game, you will not be disappointed. It is our most played game.
Thank you Christopher! I hope you have a great time playing :)
this is absolutely gorgeous.. also, I like the stationary camera at the beginning. great work Rodney.
Thanks iGGy!
Just bought the battle chest! So excited to play with friends and famiy! Thanks for explanation Rodney . Great job. Very clear and concise as always. I too would like to see a playthrough.
I hope you have a great time playing Matthew!
2 things.
1. Please do a playthrough of this one! :D
2. As mentioned in other comments, I think the steady camera pointing at the shelf is better.
Otherwise, keep up the good work! :D
Thanks Yannick!
please do a playthrough. more players will be better.
i would also like to see pep vs u vs ur children.
Great looking game - thanks! Quickly, the plaid shirt controversy is resolved in my opinion - keep them. You won us over! The steady camera shelf shot as your intro was much better than a walking one. Energy was great, camera work, editing and audio - superb as always. The plug at the end works perfectly. Way to go Sir!
Thank you, glad the refinements are coming together!
This was great. I would enjoy a actual play through of this one as well. I enjoyed the explanation of the difference between season 1 and actually showing us how that is packaged as well.
Glad you enjoyed CS!
Good timing....
Just arrived a few days ago......
Something great will be played 🤣😍
Happy to assist! Hope you have a great time playing :)
Yes! I love the intro - especially once you put the camera on its stand, or wherever you put it, so the shot was steady. And you cut straight to the table afterwards, rather than walk over to it. Loving it!! It's still very professionally looking, but more relaxed, which I think suits the tabletop games industry. Keep going... :)
Thank you :)
Thanks so much for this video - my kids love trying new games and it’s so helpful for me to get an overview before I sit down to play with them.
Hey Brynne, I am glad we could team up :) have a great time playing!
Love this format
Thank you!
As always precise and easy to follow! Thanks a lot!
You're very welcome Reinhard!
That box flip flair at the end was smooth.
I don't know how you manage to keep your cool with games as awesome as this! You're a real pro @rodneysmith and I think it'd be a real honour to meet you one day. Unlikely as I'm in Australia but one can hope. Keep up the amazing work! 😄
I'd love to get to Australia at some point!
@@WatchItPlayed If you do, I'd love to meet you. You produce top-quality videos and have a real humility that's rare online today. Keep it up mate!
I love this game so much. I play it at least a couple times a week, usually with my wife. It's so fun with just two people, which I can't say about most of my games.
I also show it to a lot of new players, and this video does such a great job of explaining things that I might just have to send people this video before I bring the game over. :P
Thanks Joel!
Happy to team up with you on the teach :)
Brilliant! Thank you so so much. I like this casual format :)
Very nice to hear!
Another excellent video convincing me to give something a try, you are wonderful at what you do.
Thank you kindly Jared!
Love the new format and that lid flip at the end :)
Cheers :)
Loved this tutorial, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!
I really enjoy the “pulling the game off the shelf “ bit
Thank you Alex :)
Love the format!!
Thanks Daniel!
Play through would be amazing!
I have the DnD mayhem card game and really enjoy it. This basically looks like a more complicated version of that so I can't wait to get my hands on it. Looks like fun
I hope you get a chance to try it!
The transitions in the intro are Top Shelf
This looks pretty cool. Do you have to start with the first season? Can you pop right into the second season without a hiccup? Another great job, Rodney, and loving the box top flip. Pinash, they call that!!! You are the best in the business!!
You don't need season 1. Just more characters to play with!
LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!
Great outro as well... thank you for another rules teach video.
Always a pleasure!
Just picked up the Season Two Battle Chest ... and wonder why it looks like a tome then. ;)
Amazing production quality and oozing with theme. Love it already!
It's quite a lovely production, isn't it?
Great use of transitions--walk off the screen on one side and reappearing in the next shot on the opposite side. It may be basic cinematography but there's a reason it works so well.
I hoped it would help tie it together - thanks!
Easily the best intro yet!!!
Your videos are a blessing!
Thank you kindly!
I've currently got this sat in my basket over at Roxley Games website store. Watching your tutorial for the second time debating if I should commit, it's an expensive bundle but looks sooooooo cool.
I hope it helps with your decision, one way or the other!
Thanks! Dice Throne is an awesome game!
Glad you've been having fun with it!
Wow. Your videos are amazing and I love them 😀
Thanks so much!
Love the dynamic entry, but the hair is too bond villain slick 😅 amazing video as always though 😁
Hey, it's never bad to have a backup job!
Fun format changes
Thanks Tolinar!
Another great UA-cam video.
Thank you Anil!
Looks like an interesting game but my wife and I just don't like to have to pay attention to all these small rules, conditions and exceptions every single time we have to do something. Thank you for this video.
I'm glad this helped you determine the game might not be a good fit for you! Thanks for checking out the video.
it's hiiiiiigh noon!
Would love to see a playthrough of this on your channel, Rodney. Maybe once Re-Rolled hits?
I tend to avoid pre-announcing shooting plans, but thanks for the interest!
Looks cool. Wish I hadn't missed the kickstarter or that the Battlechest was going to retail
Go here and you should still be able to get the Battle chest! season2.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders
Aaron V can confirm I got the season pass with battle chest ordered yesterday and already have tracking info!
@@blakecurry3880 oof. I followed the link and saw that season one was $45 + shipping but season two was $89 + shipping. Seems a bit steep. Why is season 2 double the price?
@@egyptfreaka because they upgraded the components in every way and I think the 89 also comes with the Battle Chest whereas season 1 does not.
Blake Curry do you get all the Kickstarter exclusives by buying the battle chest?
love the new intros
Thank you Aaron!
Moving within and through the static camera is an improvement. The fade transitions make the connectivity of video seem less crisp than your previous clean cut transitions. I still love the overall polished look and professional presentation along with your well scripted monologue. As always, thank you for providing the very best content!
When you say "The fade transitions make the connectivity of video seem less crisp than your previous clean cut transitions", can I confirm what you are referring to? Do you mean during the tutorial portion itself? Or are you referring to the intro specficially?
@@WatchItPlayed The tutorial.
I was curious to hear you say that then, because we've use the exact same transitions in all of our tutorials for the last 7 years. I've never used jump cuts during the tutorial transitions. Not sure why it made an impression this time :)
@@WatchItPlayed Wow! You're right! So, I went back and watched the first half of my favorite video, Starship Samurai tutorial, and its the same! Idk why it popped out to me this time other than the curious nature of humans to be overly scrutinizing, in an attempt to be helpful. Apologies, friend. :/
I’m embarrassed to say that I bought Dice Throne on the recommendation of a friend, and was “subconsciously” waiting for a WIP video, before I tried to play it.
Your delay paid off :)
Hey Rodney. Great video as always. Just wanted to express my thoughts on a couple things from the mid year update video. Regarding the polo I do think changing to different shirts changes the brand. However, I don't know that this change is necessarily negative. If most of your shirts are professional/business casual buttoned shirts like this, the professional style of the video still shows through. I think most of this comes from your presentation style, editing, and production value anyway. Also, no strong opinions about the new intro but I would have to say I am not a fan of the "selfie" film style at the beginning. Honestly, whatever the case, none of these changes would truly impact how much I appreciate and consume your content, so take that for what it's worth. Also, unrelated, but I have really appreciated how approachable and great you have been to talk to at conventions I've been able to attend! Best wishes for the new year!
Thank you for the feedback Tyler. See you at a convention this year, perhaps!
Good game....so addicting I got the battle chest #teamseraph
Glad you've been enjoying it!
Where did you get the battle chest?
@@Jonper-GD I get my KS games that arnt in retail, rather I go online type what game I am looking for and see who's selling...usually they are all on eBay....I assume I'm paying more but u can't find em anywhere....I think I get them from ppl that backed on KS multiple copies.....I just bought brass: Birmingham too.....also if your looking for vindication, the cheapest one I found is actually on the orange nebula site itself....in short eBay is ur best bet for stuff that isn't out yet......the battle chest is def a must have for this game....think I paid 140.00
Love the oxymoron in games: passive abilities are always active.
Ha! You're so right :)
I'd love this game a a solo player campaign!
You fool no one, Rodney. Everyone knows you are Superman. You need a better disguise. Great review to a great game :)
never heard of this game... now i'm in love and wondering "WHY IS THIS NOT IN MY COLLECTION?!"
Glad you get a chance to check it out :)
My daugher loves the dice. They are pretty : )
They really are!
Here I am, two years later, watching Rodney play Dice Throne. I'm here because they just announced a Marvel version of Dice Throne and I'm excited. Rodney deserves more bacon in his life.
Two bacons this week? Very exciting!
@@WatchItPlayed you deserve it. Keep on bacon-ing!
Go Rodney!
You're the best
Very glad you enjoyed!
Refining the intro I see :)
ma Boiii Rodney !!!!
Just so I have this right, a player rolls up to 3 times for an attack. At any point, even after the 3rd reroll, the opponent may play a roll phase card that can change the value of the die? Essentially skipping the off. role phase (if changing left no valid dice requirement)?
You have it.
Ooooo, looks pretty cool. Kind of a King of Tokyo meets Alien Frontier?
Dice throne killed King of Tokyo for me...KoT just didn't offer the same freedom, meaningful decisions, and strategy/tactics that DT does, so I ended up trading it away.
Aaron V quick question. Do the dice and cards ever crossover? For example, must roll a certain symbol on the die in order to having enough combat point? Seems like the cards and dice are two separate games, neither “heart stopping” by themselves (dice game plays itself to an extent and just use cards to pay for cards).
@@Tennethums1 I designed the cards and dice to have a massive amount of crossover between them in many different ways. 1) Some cards upgrade hero abilities which then require dice combinations to trigger. Some hero upgrade cards add entirely new roll types that never existed before.
2) Some cards require you to roll 1 or more dice to determine the effects. For example, "Vegas Baby" instructs you to roll a single die and then gain half the value as Combat Points, while "Get Some!" instructs you to roll all 5 dice and 1 additional dmg to an attack for each [Sword] rolled.
3) Some cards manipulate dice on the table (yours, your teammates, or your opponents). It might provide the ability to tip a die up or down by 1, or to change it directly to the number 6, or a wild card that allows you to change it to any die face desired.
Conversely, many abilities require you to roll one or more dice after they have been successfully activated to determine the final outcome of the ability (whether it's the final damage and/or the final effects).
Overall, there is a large cross dependency between the cards and the dice. Hope that helps!
Haha yeah, what Nate said! Everything plays off each other incredibly well. The only thing that ever made me scratch my head a bit was the idea of a targeting roll to determine the recipient of an attack after you'd already rolled the attack, but even that's not a huge deal, and the introduction of the King of the Hill variant neatly "fixes" it, in my opinion. It's a really well designed and balanced game...try it out for yourself at pnp.dicethrone.com/ and if you like it, you can pre-order at the Roxley website!
Nate Chatellier great! Thanks for the info! Think I’ll have to pick it up for the gf and I. She likes to whoop me in games like this. VICIOUS! 😇
Hey Rodney! hope you and your loved ones are doing well. I got two questions that may seem silly but i gotta know the answers XD.
1. Let's say the opponent did 10 damage to me. I rolled defense and as a result of my roll I did 5 damage to him. Do we resolve the damage to each other fully or does my defense deduct from his damage (so its like a counter attack) ?
2. if a certain token of mine can be used during (offense/defense) phase. Can play cards to help me with dice roll for that token?
1) You each fully assign your damage.
2) I tend to avoid questions related to specific card effects/tokens, as I cover so many games it's impossible for me to keep all of them fresh enough in my mind for that level of detail. I'd drop a question in the BoardGameGeek forums for that game (or check to see if it's been asked already).
I hope u will make a video clip how to play dice throne adventure plzzzz
Thanks for the interest!
The dice mechanics in Dice Throne are heavy and fun. One of the things I like about it is that it's fun to play, including solos, no matter how many people play it.😆
So nice to know you've been enjoying the game!
Am I right that I can reroll any die on the 2nd reroll regardless if I didn't reroll them during the 1st reroll?
You are correct!
Thank you!
Are the ONLY times you can add cards to your hand during the Income Phase (draw 1 card) and when a card effect adds cards to your hand?
That sounds right, but I don't have my copy of the game handy to double check for you right now, I'm afraid!
Hi Rodney. My dad and I learned how to play Dice Throne yesterday, and we used these two exact characters in your video. I had knocked my dad down to zero health. Would my dad also get a chance to use his Defensive Ability to try and recover some of his health so that he’s not at zero? Or, once I use my Offensive Ability and knock his health to zero…is the game immediately over? Thanks for the helpful video!
I don't have my copy to double check the answer for you, but my understanding is that as soon as you hit zero you're defeated.
@@WatchItPlayed Thank you, Rodney. I think I found a good answer in a Facebook group: "All the damage, healing, mitigation, and counter damage is summed up and applied at the same time. If the net is positive, you're not dead. If it is not positive, you are dead." So if I my dad had 5 health left, and I had dealt him 8 total damage, but he was only able to block 2 damage, at the end of the Offensive/Defensive Roll phase, he was at a -1 health, so the game ends.
Ok soo.. 1.. can the defending player(defense roll) use cards to change their dice.. if yes, what happens to the status effects granted on the initial defense roll?? can those be rerolled?? 2.. can dice from the attacker be changed in the defensive roll phase??
Hey Steven, I'd like to help you with this, but I loaned out my copy of the game to a friend, so I don't have the rules handy to look this up for you.
Slight suggestion: slide the box in at the end of the video with you closer to the games, so that you arent breaking your back when trying to talk to the camera.
Also: YOU PLAY D&D! Nice!
Also: Great video as usual :)
I don't play D&D, I just buy all the books! Some day maybe.
@@WatchItPlayed i play 3.5, though it is hard to get my group together. The cool thing is, i have a board gaming wife, and thats what makes my life complete.
Keep up the amazing work, Rodney 😁
When can I play the tokens? Can I have more tokens in my stack than the stack limit says?
Hi Dean, I feel that this is covered in the video.
Does it need season 1 to play or I can just play with season two?
You can play with any season, you don't need Season 1.
What happens when my attack roll and opponent defense result in both our health points reaching zero? Who win or is it a draw?
Hey there, you'll find this covered in the video. I also have an index in the description of the video, to help viewers find the rules they are looking for.
Hi, do these rules also work with Dice Throne Season 1 rerolled?
Best and thanks :)
Yep!
@@WatchItPlayed thanks for the fast response :)
Hey Rodney, idk if you've played much magic the gathering, but do you think this would be a fun game for someone who really enjoys that? I really like that 1v1 element.
I have played MtG! That said I avoid giving personalized recommendations. What I might like, you might not and vice versa, but hopefully the video gives you a sense of whether or not it might be a good fit for you!
@@WatchItPlayed aww ok, fair enough.
new to the game, which battle should i get? i was thinking #3, Cursed Pirate vs Artificer. witch are u guy's favs? thx. =)
What did you go with?
@@WatchItPlayed i got the Huntress v Tactition as a gift, then got the Pirate v Artificer and Seraph v Vampire shortly after. Then i early pre-ordered Dice Throne Adventures and the Trent vs Ninja box. Its hands down my favorite board game, thx for the vid, it was a big help! Keep it up!
