      I am self taught, I have worked with only my own 2 strokes and this was a first for me. New video coming soon on re wiring, carb and fuel pump rebuilds along with what to do when there is no spark.

    Good job. I have a 1968 Merc 9.8 hp that runs well. I would like to restore to run and look like new.

    At the 39:24 mark, the bottom gear that’s moving right underneath that screw and nut along with the gear selector. How do you assemble that piece. Mine is old may need a new one and I believe it’s not allowing my motor to fully turn into forward and neutral. It only has a certain shift going to reverese

      Thank you for watching, I didn't rebuild anything associated with the lower gearbox, however I would start there since it is not engaging. If this is a tiller model make sure it is set in the correct range or it won't allow you to engage into forward or neutral. If you are doing that then the lower gear box might need a rebuild, I would get a full rebuild kit since you will be pulling everything out.

    I am in the middle of a 1980 110 9.8 rebuild- very similar to yours.
    At 31:50 you went straight into locking down the shifter- but how did you “time” it? Mine is still in several pieces and wondered if there’s a sequence to getting the sector gears all lined up.

      So I didnt strip the cylinder down, I just pulled the cylinder body and lower cowl off. However to "time" your gear selection once it's put back together; reinstall the gear selector starting in the neutral position, then try to spin the shaft, if it spins freely then ur selector is in the correct position,. If it spins clockwise I believe that's forward and counter is the reverse position, I might have that backwards. However the best bet is to shoot for a neutral starting position. If the shaft spins and the selector is in the wrong position loosen the selector without changing gears and put it in the correct position. I disassembled with the merc in neutral. I hope this helps, don't forget to subscribe. There is also a FB page.

    Where did you get the brass fuel fittings for the fuel pump and carburetor?

    • @wildnwright245
      @wildnwright245  3 роки тому

      Auto parts store, just a regular fuel fitting, I believe it is a 1/8 MNPT X 5/16 FUEL LINE fitting w/ 90° elbow.

      I guess my local stores are not stocked well. One had none and the other only had two and had to order two more.
