- Watch as Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau shelfs a shot from a steep angle to beat Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger and win Game 7 in overtime, clinching the first-round series win for Calgary.

Oettinger played out of this world. What a player to look forward too.
Every year there is a goalie that plays way above his norm but usually goes further then the first round but just like the blues goalie tge year they won the cup he will go back to more realistic numbers but he definitely had a phenomenal series and was the only reason this wasn't a sweep
The Stars were outshot 67 to 28. Flames had 125 shot attempts versus 58 for the Stars. That told you that Jake was beyond outstanding. He is the MVP of this series in a valiant losing effort.

Oettinger with a 0.952. Markstrom a 0.945. The goaltenders were both absolute walls. Oettinger came within one goal of literally winning a series all by himself because the Flames absolutely dominated, but they couldn't score on him. That was as flawless a series as a goaltender has ever played.

The Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars looked evenly matched in the series. Their defense on the penalty kills was very strong.

As a diehard flames fan I have so much respect for Jake Oettinger. He played his heart out this series and was the only reason Dallas got to this point really. Huge props to Jake Oettinger. I was there, dallas’ goalie was doing amazing blocking every shot and when we finally scored in ot we all knew we were going to have an amazing next series.
Same in Edmonton, when McDavid scored his, wow! Both teams, well deserved...bravo from this Habs fan. The Battle of Alberta is going to melt any snow left on the ramparts overlooking Maligne and Louise!

Even walls begin to crack if you throw enough at them. Oettinger got no help in OT and it finally broke on what was a perfect shot. They absolutely need to do something with him. That performance was special.

Johnny has the rep of not doing anything in the playoffs. I've criticized him for that. I think his play in this series, and particularly in game 7, will put that to rest somewhat

He is one of those coaches that looks angry even when attempting to smile or celebrate. He is gonna miss Johnny next year but life goes on. Calgary was missing a piece here and there over the years to win one. Drafting Johnny alone was a great thing for Canadian Hockey along with the obvious other guy in Edmonton in a similar situation. Winning the Stanley Cup ain't no walk in the park...It's the most difficult of any World Championship to win. Any given year, any team can make a run at the right time while the top teams in the regular season can have it all fall apart in disbelief. Best of luck to Calgary this season and the same to one of the most exciting players in the game today.

I was sitting above the net in section 205 when Johnny scored that goal. It was absolute pandemonium. I usually can control my emotions but in that case everyone lost it. What an amazing experience that was!

This is the first time I've ever seen Johnny go into corners.. take hits.. dig in scrums.. and even throw a couple hits..There was a play tonight where I started yelling at Johnny, "Get in there!!!" and he did and we got the puck.. He's learning what it actually takes to make it in the playoffs.

One month after, thinking about how the season ended. I have faith this team can stay together and push forward to improve as a team and as individuals. They have the skills to match up against these top teams. Our young guys will step forward and Pelletier is gonna be key next season the flames are gonna be a dangerous team.

What a weekend for the playoffs
This is neither a lucky bounce nor a bad break, it's a designed shot by Gaudreau. Gaudreau scored quite a few goals early in his NHL career with this exact same shot, when he caught many goalies by surprise. He rarely uses this shot any more as most NHL goalies are well aware of this special trick shot by Gaudreau. As a rookie, Oettinger never saw this coming.

Not sure it would of been an easier series if Oettinger continued this level of play. That was just unreal. Would have been interesting, but in the end glad to see its Battle of Alberta.

@@lunarbunny3021 never know because sometimes team dynamics are kryptonites for top teams. Eg when Oilers were in their worst days about 8-10 years ago, they always stomped the Penguins and Blackhawks.. meanwhile the Blue Jackets (who at the time were also garbo) would beat us along with rhw rest of the league. So you never really know

Gaudreau scored exactly the same kind of goal to open the scoring against the Kings in LA on April 4th 10 seconds into the game when he saw that the goalie wasn't hugging the near post. The Flames won that game by one goal too.
