I’m a Slayer fan since the 80s and I thought Slayer was dead the moment they kicked out Dave Lombardo again and Jeff Hanneman died. To me they quit way too late and should have ended it in 2013. The last Slayer album was an absolute horrific travesty that never should have happened or released as a Slayer album because it doesn’t sound like Slayer to me. Jeff’s writing and playing style was what made the Slayer sound. Sure, Kerry King contributed and was a part of it all, so I don’t want to discount that, but most of Slayer’s more popular songs were written by Jeff. Repentless to me is the first Kerry King solo album that just happened to have the surviving members of Slayer as back up. This new track is obviously an extension of that and I didn’t care much for it. I agree Mark Oseguera on vocals is the strongest aspect of it all so far. I also did not care for how the drums were mixed either, but I am curious to hear the album in its entirety before I completely write it off. I have to say, I’m not at all optimistic that the rest will be much of an improvement though. Regarding Kerry bad mouthing Dave Lombardo and Tom Araya, that’s nothing new. Kerry has always been a world class prick who runs his mouth off to make himself look cool. He directed it more at other bands back in the day, but it really started to come out in 1992 when they fired Dave. He took pot shots at Dave every chance he got and it always made him look bad. He’s never been my favorite Metal personality, but I looked past it for years because I was such a huge Slayer fan. Now that Slayer is done and over with, I have zero issues being critical of him.
Awesome. I think you are spot on on everything you said. As far as quitting I think most of us (people who think they quit to early) wanted to have the live shows around a bit more but they should have quit recording as soon as Jeff was gone.
I think it was great they quit after Jeff died. That was smart: more bands should do that instead of releasing years after year of sub-par music. I never put Repentless on. But Kerry releasing that music as a solo project. That’s completely different. That’s a better idea for sure.
Happy Dave got to play with Suicidal Tendencies and Mr. Bungle since his “ departure “ from Slayer….. he never deserved the trash talk when he took time out for his family.
this is pure insanity. check the song credits my dude. the best songs are written by both jeff and kerry. jeffs songs that he wrote all the music to are strange eerie type things and more punky style riffs because thats what jeff was really into. the best album is divine intervention and ill die on that hill. kerry wrote most of it by himself and the riffs are actually crazy good. they worked with yngwie malmsteen on creating more original sounding riffs and did it ever pay off.
I love Slayer and I disagree King is and always was the better guitarist Jeff was just a good riff writer for some songs but Kerry had just as much to do with the better songs too
@@dalestewart7162'some songs?' He pretty much wrote all their classics 😂 Angel of Death, Postmortem, Raining Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons, Dead Skin Mask, War Ensemble and on and on...
Everyone knows Hanneman was the better guitarist, but didn't like the spotlight as much as Kerry. I far respect Tom Araya for bowing out gracefully when his time was done, than dragging out the Slayer legacy in a similar sounding band just to make more (unneeded) dollar. It's almost like Hetfield retiring, then Lars getting the dude from Avenged Sevenfold in to carry Metallica on. No disrespect as this initial song sounds dope, but I just don't think it was needed with such an awesome back catalog.
🤣🤣. Well, let’s not forget Kerry and Dave actually played Megadeth’s first 5 shows together… can you imagine if that would have lasted any longer all the drama we would have gotten?! Step aside Fleetwood Mac! Hahaha
I thought Idle Hands felt dull and uninspired. To me it was a case of "old man yells at cloud", with Kerry King bashing religion for the 50 millionth time... again. Maybe the rest of the album will be better, but this felt very token, like "Oh yeah here's some more Slayer, and you'll like it because I'm Kerry King so you have to." I'm also not fond of him trashing his other band mates. Lombardo had legitimate concerns about how the band was being taken to the cleaners, and Hanneman was the one keeping the peace between Tom and Kerry. Without Jeff, Tom knew it would end in a huge fight if they didn't end it when they did, and he didn't want that. If anyone was responsible for Slayer's breakup it was King, but he'll never see it that way because he's "Kerry King". I'm sure I'll get some flak for this, but that's how I see it.
This sounds about right. I listened to the song, it's ok but I don't know that we really needed it per se. You summed it up pretty well. I feel it's ok to let bands retire, fuck man how long can you keep it going? Til your dead? Hell no, retire when it's time. No shame in it.
I don't understand why people keep saying it sounds like Slayer. It does not. It is extremely generic and more like Machine Head with a garbage "modern"production. KK is cutting his own throat with all of his entitled whining. Doesn't he realize that Slayer fans love Tom and Dave?
I think you are comparing to SLAYER, not slayer… lol. The last few albums sounded a bit like this, sadly. And yes! He is shooting himself on the foot here.
It sounds like Slayer to people who’ve only heard ‘Repentless.’ 😄 The band was done when Jeff passed away and the world doesn’t need another watered-down knockoff.
Despite Mark’s great vocal performance, the song still made me go “Screw this shit, I’ll stick to early Slayer”. It really is just another generic Slayer song, but like you said, that’s what an average Slayer fan wants in the end, it’s like with Iron Maiden and AC/DC
I do respect him for moving on and showing us the work ethic of metal musicians. Metal is passion, metal is pride, metal is blood. It doesn't just leave our body or mind. Metal is life!
@PatPosse I really know nothing about any of the bands I listen to or their politics. I am in it for the music. I don't remember why Black Sabbath broke up, but tons of great music came out of it. Let the gazillionairs fight amongst themselves. In the end, people die. It is the music that lives on.
Do you think you can stand being in a close band together for 37 years and not have some bullshit to say?? Shit, do you still hand with ur buddies from 40 years ago?? I betcha ya dont!!!
@@randyz.205 I'm not even 40 so no... But I'll tell you what, even though I agree with your statement, I'd have the decency to keep it indoors or private. Especially cause no one really asked, he just gratuitously slammed his bandmates. NOT Cool.
Yes, especially since Slayer are doing 2 reunion shows very soon so they must still all be on good terms, way too much guessing & shit talking by people who don't actually know these guys,
I love slayer. Love slayer. Tom is one of the most calm down to earth dude unless you piss him off. He can be strict. But that’s his dad side. Much respect for Tom
I'm a brazilian fan of Slayer since world painted blood and even if I came late to the party, I've always felt like Slayer guys were not friends but work collegues at most. Even when Jeff was ill or died I didn't felt like Kerry cared that much. I think he is really ungrateful to the other members, because lets be honest, he was the most average member of the band. Jeff was a beast at lyrics and guitar, Tom's vocals slaps and Lombardo it's a top tier drummer. But him? Well, he is a bald bearded guy that plays regular guitar and dresses with skulls and a chain.
yeah I think you are calling this correctly.... well said, I have been listening to slayer since I was 14/15 just after the release of Hell awaits, I can take or leave King, the other 3 are very well recognised and generally liked more, I think King does have his moments and has probably chilled some since the earlier days, like most I miss the old slayer when Jeff was still alive..... but CI was still great too.... I do not have an outright favourite as that changes on a daily basis, but all the 80's album's and SITA (1990) are my favourites overall.... Paul Bostoph is a great drummer, but Mr Lombardo & Mr Hanneman is what made Slayer sound so good..... along with Tom's vocal fry of course... those 3 made Slayer the unique outfit they are/were... you could replace King and nobody would care as much unlike the other 3.
Should never of named the band Kerry King, talk about an ego trip, what about the rest of the members? even the song Idle Hands is pretty much all about Kerry too. Slagging down Dave Lombardo saying he's dead to him, Jeff's now worm food, nothing nice to say about loveable Tom, I used to do all the tracking Kerry said, its all just me me me with Kerry and never has a nice word to say about anyone. I can't believe Kerry hasn't spoke to Tom since they stopped touring years ago, that's terrible, as much as I loved Slayer I couldn't give a monkeys how Kerry does now because he just comes across as a totally unlikeable guy, seems like the sort of guy who's all nice to your face and then slags you down as soon as your back is turned.
Haha go for it! You know I’m right and an old school thrasher as yourself couldn’t disagree 🤘🏻. Also, it’s about time I inspired You for a change 😉. Upload that video like a man! 🤘🏻
I checked his new solo music and it does sound alright but I didn't like how Kerry King is bashing Tom Arya or he didn't like how Slayer retired early. Any Slayer fan knows the reason why also Tom Arya called it quits is he had neck surgery on his neck plus he also had some metal plates put inside his neck because of the damage from head banging and relive some pain on his neck. Kerry sounds bitter and upset because he said Tom and him haven't spoken. He said if Tom calls him then cool but if he doesn't then he doesn't care. Really Kerry should just leave Tom alone. He's enjoying his life already and Kerry sounds like a cry baby because he didn't want to stop playing music. I hope in his solo project he has good luck and hopefully his new band mates don't leave him or else he'll start talking trash about them
All I know is they all did there jobs for 40 years. If anyone has any idea how tough that would be they wouldn't pick sides or criticize. If they talk a little trash now they earned it. If Kerry still wants to play that's great. It is what it is. If you think Kerry's a dick then don't listen to it, if you don't like his solos then don't listen to it. I'm going to listen to it and it costs me nothing. Free slayer style thrash tracks! Thanks Kerry!
I only became interested in King's band due to Mark Osequada and Phil Demmel being in the band. Mark will definitely kill it as the vocalist and I'm very happy he's confirmed continuing as Death Angel's vocalist and didn't jump ship to join, what will probably end up being, a one album release.
Paul's drums have always sounded robotic, which is why it needed Dave, Dave has a latin flair and pretty much invented groove metal, something that it's just missing. Still a good song.
I left a comment on the 'From Hell I Rise' song. "If you want to go solo, go solo...that's great. Just be original. All you're really trying to do here is re-create Slayer. I'm sorry, but Hanneman was the true mastermind behind Slayer. You're one member trying to be what you Used To Be. And the band name...wtf. You couldn't come up with something that didn't revolve around Just You?! An all-star line-up...Slayer, HellYeah, Machine Head, and Death Angel. Let's call it Kerry King. The ego...🤦♂" So far, I have one reply saying my opinion should be positive like everyone else's. What does that even mean?! (
I thought the song sounded super uninspired and he somehow got phil demmel to write the worst solo of his career. I wouldnt buy this if it was in the bargain bin
@richardwarfordjr.5622 thats totally cool as long as someone enjoyed it. I wish I liked it I really wanted to. But at least I gave it an honest listen instead of just bashing it outright like some people lol
I just stumbled on this channel and I am loving this guy!!! I’m a huge fan of slayer but I enjoy some healthy criticism every now and again and the fact that he explained in detail his “meh” feelings toward it I sensed no judgment, only clarity and I love that type of reporting if you will. Automatically subscribed!
THANK YOU brother!! I try to stay as objective as possible but letting people know my actual feelings about a subject while trying not to sway people either way, you know what I mean? Haha. Sometimes is not as easy though 😅. Thanks for subbing and welcome to the channel! Hope you enjoy the content! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@PatPosse I appreciate the warm welcome my dude, I watched a few other of your videos and you’re a damn good guitarist as well bro. Love the variety and the comment you made about “from death metal to queen and everything in between” I thought that was rad as hell dude. Either way I’ll be enjoying the content, I know I will lol keep up the great work
Haha thank you my brother!! Guitar playing videos are mis favorites! (Sadly, not my viewers’…) I hope to get to a point soon where I can start to upload guitar playing content more often 😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
Honestly Idle Hands is completely forgettable. I've listened to it a bunch trying to get into it, and after each listen I immediately forget what it even sounds like. It's just forgettable, nothing about it stands out.
Araya knew it was a wrap when Hanneman passed away. I would be pretty suprised to find out that King played all of the bass on those records also. He might be exaggerating a little bit.
Jeff wrote the Slayer, songs & riffs. Jeff's solos were up & down the neck & great, technical, passionate. Kerry's solos were pick tapping & pedestrian. Easy difference to know when listening. Tom's vocals, Dave is one of the goats. Kerry by far Slayers weakest link. Any true old-skool fans know this. I think Kerry created the riff for Expendable Youth & maybe one other from Seasons. Last I heard of Slayer Gary from Exodus was carrying the riffage weight of the band. Kerry, cool tats & a loudmouth. 40 years after 'Haunting the Chapel' mediocre guitar player.
I'm glad to hear someone else say that Kerry's comments rubbed them the wrong way too. I'm not surprised about Dave, but his take on Tom was just uncalled for IMO. It makes me think that Slayer actually ended a little too late. Repentless already wasn't as strong an album as Christ Illusion or World Painted Blood. I'm now wondering if Tom got tired of touring as much because of Kerry as missing his family. I'm still looking forward to the album though; hopefully Kerry doesn't talk on the albums, and that's usually when his douchebaggery shows most clearly. It's funny you mention the drums; I've always thought that Paul Bostaph's drumming was too mechanical sounding somehow. He's a damn fine drummer to be sure, but he always lacked Dave's... swing. Dave sounded like a jazz drummer blitzed on cocaine and speed, and I loved it. Slayer sounded flat without him.
When i first heard R.I.B, it blew me outta my fucking chair. Thats the album that got me into slayer. It would be nice to hear K.K. do something a bit more oitside of the Slayer box.
@@PatPosse i honestly think in the music aspect, k.k. lacks self awareness. Its like he wants to milk that RIB era slayer thinking thats what Slayer fans want. No need to shake things up.
Man, You are pretty spot on. I always thought that Jeff and Tom wrote the best songs in Slayer, and with Dave on drums ... That was the Slayer sound I loved. I think Kerry was just able to market himself as the face of the band with all of his endorsements and such. Kerry was always my least favorite. Jeff wrote the best riffs IMO.
Great minds think alike my bro! I am with you. I always wondered why King got all the endorsements and attention being the weak link in Slayer. It sure as hell is not his personality! Lol. I never dig that smug tough guy/rockstar persona. It always felt forced to me.
Kerry has given his life to music. Can’t blame the guy for wanting to die playing his axe…. But he could still have some class and not shit on everyone in the process
Exactly. If you pay attention to the video you’ll see I’m not criticizing Kerry for staying on and wanting to keep playing. I commend him for that… I do criticize his attitude toward his ex bandmates. My opinions on the single are purely subjective 🤷🏻♂️
Talking shit about anyone is a sign you shouldn’t be hanging out with that guy. It’s only a matter of time before they talk shit about you. Either learn to give constructive criticism and end things peacefully, or learn to shut up and keep it to yourself.
I'm a huge SLAYER fan and have been since HELL AWAITS.. and I have liked everything they have put out since..really liked the last three albums as well.. I'm in my 50s so I've been into thrash since the beginning. KERRY is arrogant and has said some shitty things about his past band mates..BUT the new song is a great thrash song...and if was put out by some unknown artist people would be like hell yeah this is bad ass..but because it's K.K people are complaining that it's slayer 2.0 ...well no shit... it was written for slayer by a founding member of Slayer. What else is it supposed to sound like..
I actually believe the opposite. I think if it were recorded by someone else it would fly under everybody’s radar… people wouldn’t give it the time of day… that’s just me though. There’s no way to know who is right so let’s just say we both are lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This could just as easily be a modern Exodus song, Witchery or Crown song. There's nothing mild blowing about it. Completely formulaic. That being said, more power to you and Kerry. I've been around since Hell Awaits too, I'd rather move on to newer bands, hear something different. There's nothing inspiring in the song.
Kerry King were never a good guitarist, but is still unique. Kerry King is like Venom in 1980 when Venom didn't know notes. Venom learned notes in 1980's while Kerry never did. This is why Kerry almost always refused to do collabs as he can't tell the right side of a g-string. I still like his Slayer playing.
@@PatPosse He were never a real musician, but can still play good riffs. He should never have bashed Tom and Dave like a old granny like Sebastian Bach, Dee Snider and Paul Stanley never did.
You’re the best. I agree with you 100% Slayer retired. You should see what’s on Kerry’s license plate ! So what’s everybody think about the remastered remixed Show No Mercy album? Remember back in 1983 it was in December when that came out. Bill did a great job on re-mixing and mastering it.
@PatPosse they lost the image and the sound they took of the spikes leather and pentagrams off and started wearing sports jerseys were at a metal show not the world series
I'll give them South of Heaven, because it was "different". But like Master of Puppets, I knew those two were going to be the end for me. Both bands became band wagon bands after that, and let the masses water them down, barf. Nothing worse than people that shit on you over the same bands, become their new bestest fanboys. Barf again.
Funny usually I would be like WTF really! But dude I am feeling exactly like what you said. I listened to the song before I knew who was in the band and I had no idea that, that was Mark, He sounds great, I think he may be the one to make this band if it last....
For me SLAYER have some similarity with Metallica as far as quality of material timeline goes. First five albums are extraordinary and are considered a classics. Metallica also first five albums were all superb, yes also Black album. After that many great songs but no peak albums again. This also probably have something to do with rise of grunge and decline of metal in the late 90s. Story of so many bands. Exit of Lombardo and passing of Hanneman, contributed a lot. This singer is good but you cannot really replace Araya and fans know what I mean. His charism, voice, energy if you will, is on a little higher level.
True but keep in mind this isn’t Slayer… he is not “replacing” Tom but rather doing something else completely.. the thing is, this song is very close to what Slayer did on their last album and that’s why we fall into that trap. But really, they shouldn’t be compared. Let’s see how the rest of the album is.
I'm a huge Metal Head from Chicago, IL I saw Slayer 12 times in my lifetime I'm 43 and Kerry King has the biggest fucking Ego ever. If it wasn't for his guitar-playing he would be just a piece of shit. I'm huge Zak Wylde fan by the way he would blow Kerry off the stage.
Man, is KK getting shat upon by a lot of people. I liked the new single. Yeah the drums do sounds a lil processed and mechanical, but they're ok. What surprised me was Mark of Death Angel, he fucking killed it. Yeah KK can be a dick, but we expect that. It's the music that matters, and I thought it was great. 8.5 out of 10. Can't wait for the album.
Cool. I didn’t really love it or hate it. I don’t remember a single riff now but I will wait for the album… I hope there’s more input from the other members…
The world is a better place thanks to all these guys gals and bands lets not forget they are all people with all of our faults and problems but all in all they made my youth so much more bareable and enjoyable. I probably shouldnt type whilst drinking
I mean Is Kerry King that damn cool that he cant ever even bother to take off his sunglasses during an interview and look the person he is talking to in the eye? ever! even inside at night . to cool for this school
Yeah it's really obnoxious and rude and he knows that. Dude ain't that cool no one is. But maybe that's just his way of distancing himself from how people can be towards celebrities. Prince was that way too. But that dude was the shit and in. Much wider genre so maybe from him thats excusable. With Kerry he is already a scary intimidating character so maybe him wearing glasses prevents the interviewer from turning into stone if they looked him directly in the eye. Lol fuck I love slayer. Shit Paul Bostaph even came out to see my band play to consider me for his new band Black Gates. We talked after our set and he liked it but I wasn't exactly what he was looking for. Still cool though that I had that little connection.
@@PatPosseyea man, he's all about himself the douche... Sad because I'm a huge SLAYER fan 🤘 Tom Araya is Christian but still smashed out the lyrics, Jeff is gone and I truly think that his death was SLAYER'S demise. Sad but true
Dairy Queen has always been the least favorite of slayer by most. Jeff had the writing, Dave killed the drums and Toms voice and personality were awesome.
its nuts i remember buying decade of aggression when i was in high school i was 16 and i thought wow a decade these guys have been playing, shit i feel old
I'm a huge fan of Slayer, but I have to say I'm not impressed either with Kerry King's solo debut so far. It just sounds like he's trying to keep something going that's done. Good luck with that.
True. In his defense, he did write it for Slayer… I would have chosen a different song to at least show something different and exciting… but that’s just me 🤷🏻♂️
I read an interview with him about 30 years ago where he dissed homeless people ,I decided there and then that he was a dick,he hasn’t done anything since then to change my opinion of him
Your right about the drums. They sound is heavily compressed and light. The playing is amazing but i am with you on the production. They aren't very big sounding. Guitars sound great. Was hoping he would come up with something new. This is pretty much Slayer continued.
I’ve seen Slayer a dozen times beginning in a bar in the 80’s. So I’m a longtime fan. It was super disappointing to see King’s recent rants, including making a point that 3/4 of the retired lineup are TDS suffering liberals. Perhaps there was more to the Araya reasons for not wanting to continue than he let on. I am with Araya and Lombardo, and will not support this album.
Kerry King is a lot like Dave Mustaine. He does not do it for publicity, he just runs his mouth about things he probably shouldn't. Slayer were one of the bands that did not air their problems publicly like the others in the big four. And when Kerry speaks about them it sounds shocking and like he is an asshole. While I think he should be more respectful we don't/didn't know many of the struggles that this band went through. When I seen Kerry interviewed after Jeff's death it was surprising about indifferent Kerry seemed, but when you get more into it Jeff had all but checked out of Slayer years before it. He only got involved when making the records and the tours. After that he hid away. And you can hate on Kerry all you want, but he didn't drink himself to death.
I remember that... He seemed to not give a F about Jeff's passing... Either way, all I'm saying is, show some class!. Play, not play, make killer or lousy records, just don't go around trashing your ex bandmates. Specially when is uncalled for like this time. It feels like he just gratuitously slammed Tom and Dave for publicity. I guess it worked... we ARE all talking about it, and there's no such thing as "bad publicity"
I still stand by my comments…Tom and Dave ..L ..should not be under attack ..Because those musicians are Legendary in there field…let’s face it Jeff H..was highly more skilled…and contributed a ton of material..that made Slayer …! I truly feel that the band’s demise started with Jeff leaving RIP..so Kerry enjoy the high horse…but remember the world is watching…even the liveUNdead 🤘🏽
Keep your mouth shut about your old band mates and move forward. Most Slayer fans love Dave, Jeff and Tom. Tom shouldn’t have to keep touring to make you happy
I thought the Kerry King band songs I heard sounded decent but for me as a listener, someone like Kerry King is always going to be chasing the dragon of making another reign in blood. He is never going to catch it.
True. He is a one trick pony but I just don’t think he’s ever tried as hard as he did back then to record a great album or even progress as a guitar player or writer.
I heard part of the new song and I switched it off in absolute disgust. Generic garbage is a far too polite description. Legend in his own living room.
I didn't hate the new song but I didn't love it either. Great overall production (agree about drum tones), great vocal performance by Mark, solid arrangement. Now the cons: boring and repetitive riff...like a Slayer b-side track, KFK handled his solo in typical KFK fashion...jerking off on the whammy bar. I was let down to hear Demmel do such a KFK type solo when the guy is capable of so much more. I also think for Kerry to name the band after his own name, thinking that he's as good enough of a shredder to pull that off shows how inflated his ego is. Yet die hard Slayer fans (especially the younger generation fans) will praise this like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
It’s 72 seasons all over again… agree 100% with your assessment… I love the fact that he said “I didn’t want to name the band after me but I loved the logo so fuck it” hahaha
@@Gary_M There's a lot worse out there. Drums are shitty for sure but the mix is banging and vocals are on point. Typical thrash recording...guitars sound typical of most recent Slayer releases. I was trying not to completely shit on the song.
I've been a Slayer fan since the beginning. Jeff's writing was the best. Kerry has a different style, and honestly he's the one guy that could have easily been replaced. His new single sux ass and the trash talking of all the other members of Slayer is in bad taste.
I think Slayer retired at the right time. Repentless was a weak album. I love the song Repentless, and Pride and Prejudice is a good track, but the rest is kind of mediocre. I think the new track sounded more vital then most of Repentless. It sounds like he's got a hunger and something to prove again. I personally think him calling the band Kerry King was the smartest thing he could do marketing wise. With the current festival culture we have when you see Kerry King on a poster most people know who that is, but if he called the band something else and you were looking at the poster a lot of people may not be aware who the band is and is less likely to check it out. Him calling the band Kerry King is no different then a lot of other artists like Danzig, Ozzy, and Dio naming the band after themselves. Plus he's making a statement that this is his band and no one is taking that away from him again. I've always felt South of Heaven is Slayer Lite lol
Totally, they got out at the right time and you do have a point when it comes with the festivals and all... the thing with bands like Dio, Ozzy or Danzig is that they were frontmen (and the lead singers for their band). I guess Blackmore kinda did it with Rainbow as a guitarist and we could argue that Yngwie, Vai and Satriani did it but this guy is not nearly charismatic enough (or virtuoso enough) to pull that off. That, of course, is nothing but my own (probably wrong) opinion lol....
This guy is best not talking.Ive been a lifelong Slayer fan.A fan of the band, not just the guitar player.Suffers from little man complex,big-time.His new music sucks.
I was the kid with the Slaytanic Wermacht cut up t-shirt back in the late 80s early 90s.Slayer is definitely an acquired taste.I can say that for any of their individual shortcomings or criticisms-together they made some truly great albums. At least five brilliant ones. So,I'm not trying to be an asshole.I just wish Kerry would chill out,go do some fishing or something. And please stop talking shit about his two remaining bros that made a legacy together.
That's because Tom took Dave's side initially, Tom and Dave want nothing to do with Slayer especially post Jeff. Jeff was the primary writer once he was gone that was it.
1st time to your channel, was fully expecting more fanboy worship. I almost completely agree with your assessment. I'll hold judgement until I hear more tracks, which honestly will have to fall into my lap. I've found slayer dull and uninteresting post South of Heaven, and knew then I'd be done with them after that album. Was happy to see them on the Reign(ing) Blood tour in the 00's, which was great because they were banned in St. Louis before I was able to see them, a couple decades. New single, more of the same, late model Slayer I never cared for. They should've went their separate ways when Jeff passed. Lastly, to be fair, Jeff's later stuff was even worse than Kerry's, sounding more like slipknot than Slayer but he still had the attitude, minus the smug. Something's rubbed me wrong about Kerry for a long time. Plenty will like the new stuff, and more power to Kerry if he wants to continue, I can't fault him for that. Keep the money right and your mouth shut. Be happy you had Dave & especially Tom as long as you did, and move on. RIP Jeff.
Kerry playing Araya’s bass on records is not a big deal, its very common for all rhythm guitars/bass to be played by the same person to keep the tracks tight. Bassists in metal bands are usually the weakest guitar players just moved over. Kerry King has writing credit on 7 of 10 tracks on Reign in Blood, including the title track. He wrote “Ghosts of War”, “Disciple”
I don't think I really cared much when they announced that they were retiring. Slayer's first five albums and whichever EPs they released in between cannot be disputed but they never really got better after the early 90's and Repentless was nothing special. I know I'm going to draw the ire of many with this comment. I knew a lot of crybaby metalheads who made out that it was the end of the world and it was absolute cringe. Not bashing anything but I found my thrash metal fixes elsewhere in recent years. I will check out this brand new offering from Kerry and take it with a pinch of salt. You want some epic and apocalyptic thrash metal? Go and listen to the new Atrophy song.
Atrophy doesn’t get the credit it deserves! Slayer was well… Slayer. They put on a killer show every time but I think anyone that went to see them live was just there for the first few albums. Not a lot of diehard Repentless/christ illusion etc fans… it was sad to see them go because they were a staple of Metal but they hadn’t put out a great album in decades… still, Slayer was one of my first concerts and a little bit of Metal went away with them 😢. I have no connection to this band though lol.
I think you're underestimating Kerry King I mean you you forget what he's contributed in Megadeth and in Beastie boys add influencing a bunch of people to this day
Names a band after himself and shit talks the band that made him a successful musician, yet everyone else is the problem right? Not a creative thing in his new music, and i dont think im alone in that thought, Most uneventful boring album ive heard in years.
King is the only member of Slayer that I never really liked. I'm a guitar player and I cried when Jeff died. I probably will never listen to King's band.

What do you think about Suicidal Angels?
For sure the best case scenario
Happy Dave got to play with Suicidal Tendencies and Mr. Bungle since his “ departure “ from Slayer….. he never deserved the trash talk when he took time out for his family.

Kerry's new stuff sounds like last few Slayer albums, Jeff Hanneman wrote the better riffs, solos and songs tbh
Totally!
Well Kerry did say the project was a continuation of Slayer.
Yup let’s hope there some input from the other members on the other songs…
this is pure insanity. check the song credits my dude. the best songs are written by both jeff and kerry. jeffs songs that he wrote all the music to are strange eerie type things and more punky style riffs because thats what jeff was really into. the best album is divine intervention and ill die on that hill. kerry wrote most of it by himself and the riffs are actually crazy good. they worked with yngwie malmsteen on creating more original sounding riffs and did it ever pay off.
I agree 100% I loved Jeff too but he wasn't as good guitarist as everyone makes out he was Kerry is tighter and way better guitarist tbh
Everyone who loves slayer knows Jeff Hanneman was slayer!
Damn straight!
I love Slayer and I disagree King is and always was the better guitarist Jeff was just a good riff writer for some songs but Kerry had just as much to do with the better songs too
😂@@dalestewart7162
@@dalestewart7162'some songs?' He pretty much wrote all their classics 😂 Angel of Death, Postmortem, Raining Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons, Dead Skin Mask, War Ensemble and on and on...
FUCK YES! RIP JEFF.
He always seemed like the kind of guy that thinks he's way better than he actually is.
DUDE.
NAILED IT.
Yep
Everyone knows Hanneman was the better guitarist, but didn't like the spotlight as much as Kerry. I far respect Tom Araya for bowing out gracefully when his time was done, than dragging out the Slayer legacy in a similar sounding band just to make more (unneeded) dollar. It's almost like Hetfield retiring, then Lars getting the dude from Avenged Sevenfold in to carry Metallica on. No disrespect as this initial song sounds dope, but I just don't think it was needed with such an awesome back catalog.
Yea, he and Mustaine must be related somehow
🤣🤣. Well, let’s not forget Kerry and Dave actually played Megadeth’s first 5 shows together… can you imagine if that would have lasted any longer all the drama we would have gotten?! Step aside Fleetwood Mac! Hahaha
I just wonder how much of KK’s attitude the other guys will put up with
Me too. Someone said it’ll probably be a revolving door of session musicians and I think he might just be right.
About a year. Comes down to money.
😔
I second this. You and I will get flak. Bring it on
This sounds about right. I listened to the song, it's ok but I don't know that we really needed it per se. You summed it up pretty well. I feel it's ok to let bands retire, fuck man how long can you keep it going? Til your dead? Hell no, retire when it's time. No shame in it.
@@HarleySLA Totally, if it's ran it's course then it's done...
I agree 100%. I hope that there’s more input from the other players throughout the album.
This is a great video, and a fair assessment of the newest single release. I appreciate your unbiased, critical thoughts. Following you.
Thanks brother! Glad you enjoyed it! Welcome, Hope you love the channel !
Despite Mark’s great vocal performance, the song still made me go “Screw this shit, I’ll stick to early Slayer”. It really is just another generic Slayer song, but like you said, that’s what an average Slayer fan wants in the end, it’s like with Iron Maiden and AC/DC
Exactly. I expected it to be a bit different but he played it safe. Let’s wait to see how the other songs turn out…
I do respect him for moving on and showing us the work ethic of metal musicians. Metal is passion, metal is pride, metal is blood. It doesn't just leave our body or mind. Metal is life!
I agree. But metal is also family and you just don’t throw your brothers under the bus
I agree. But metal is also family and you just don’t throw your brothers under the bus
@PatPosse I really know nothing about any of the bands I listen to or their politics. I am in it for the music. I don't remember why Black Sabbath broke up, but tons of great music came out of it. Let the gazillionairs fight amongst themselves. In the end, people die. It is the music that lives on.
That’s true.
He should have called the band Betrayer
Hahaha
Exactly 😅😅

Not rumors. He went on record to discredit and crap on them. That’s where he messed up.

Diet Slayer would be a kick ass soft drink.

Hahaha exactly
yeah I think you are calling this correctly.... well said, I have been listening to slayer since I was 14/15 just after the release of Hell awaits, I can take or leave King, the other 3 are very well recognised and generally liked more, I think King does have his moments and has probably chilled some since the earlier days, like most I miss the old slayer when Jeff was still alive..... but CI was still great too....
@@jjharson7344 Agreed.
Dude reminds me of a stereo typical bully. Dave Lambardo seems like a really cool guy 😎
Dave does seem like a cool chill dude
I am with you my bro. Sucks, but it is what it is…

Thanks for the review!
Thank you for watching!!
I hope in his solo project he has good luck and hopefully his new band mates don't leave him or else he'll start talking trash about them
I think it’s also a publicity stunt… why now? You know what it mean..?
All I know is they all did there jobs for 40 years. If anyone has any idea how tough that would be they wouldn't pick sides or criticize. If they talk a little trash now they earned it. If Kerry still wants to play that's great. It is what it is. If you think Kerry's a dick then don't listen to it, if you don't like his solos then don't listen to it. I'm going to listen to it and it costs me nothing. Free slayer style thrash tracks! Thanks Kerry!
Enjoy! Honestly I just wish he didn’t pull this publicity stunt trying to discredit his ex bandmates. That’s all
I liked Slayer more in the 80's before the internet and social media.
Ignorance IS bliss. I totally get what you mean! I can think of a bunch of artists that shoot themselves on the foot constantly
I only became interested in King's band due to Mark Osequada and Phil Demmel being in the band.
Mark will definitely kill it as the vocalist and I'm very happy he's confirmed continuing as Death Angel's vocalist and didn't jump ship to join, what will probably end up being, a one album release.
I fear you might be 100% correct!!
I don't think they retired too early. But, I respect King's opinion and choices that he has made regarding his career.
Fair enough
Paul's drums have always sounded robotic, which is why it needed Dave, Dave has a latin flair and pretty much invented groove metal, something that it's just missing. Still a good song.
True. There’s drummers and bands that just sound like that… Machine Head comes to mind..
Spot on review. Cheers & Peace.
Thanks brother! Glad you enjoyed it!!
I' m a Slayer fan from Hungary , and many thanks for Kerry to keep alive Slayer :-)
At least someone is happy about this! 💪🏻
The ego...🤦♂"
So far, I have one reply saying my opinion should be positive like everyone else's. What does that even mean?! (
Sheep mentality and fanboydom 🤦🏻♂️. Lame to the extreme. I’m with you 100%
I thought the song sounded super uninspired and he somehow got phil demmel to write the worst solo of his career. I wouldnt buy this if it was in the bargain bin
Hahaha 😂 love these harsh comments (when they are not aimed at me that is..😅) I would buy it for the right price so I would give it an honest chance 😉
I totally agree it almost feels like they took peices of other SLAYER songs and just threw it together
I thought it's pretty cool 😂
@richardwarfordjr.5622 thats totally cool as long as someone enjoyed it. I wish I liked it I really wanted to. But at least I gave it an honest listen instead of just bashing it outright like some people lol

Will he be able to remember his own riffs this time or will he be using backing tracks live?
Oh snap! Hahaha
The more King’s hair disappeared, the more his ego expanded
Hahahahaha
Honestly Idle Hands is completely forgettable. I've listened to it a bunch trying to get into it, and after each listen I immediately forget what it even sounds like. It's just forgettable, nothing about it stands out.
The vocals kinda do. But other than that, pretty forgettable. I don’t remember any parts now and it’s only been a few hours… nothing really stood out.
Araya knew it was a wrap when Hanneman passed away. I would be pretty suprised to find out that King played all of the bass on those records also. He might be exaggerating a little bit.
I think so too...
You can listen to the isolated bass tracks from RiB… they are played terribly, so it’s not exactly something I’d be keen to own up to 🤣
Bwahaha 😂!
I agree. I was a huge fan of the Slayer albums up to Seasons. After that I wasn’t as thrilled.
Damn straight.
Totally dude. I’m with you 100%
I'm glad to hear someone else say that Kerry's comments rubbed them the wrong way too.
Totally! Dave had the dynamics and articulation that made him awesome. He was fast, but managed to have swing and groove while being in the pocket !
When i first heard R.I.B, it blew me outta my fucking chair. Thats the album that got me into slayer. It would be nice to hear K.K. do something a bit more oitside of the Slayer box.
Is he capable of doing it is the question...
@@PatPosse i honestly think in the music aspect, k.k. lacks self awareness. Its like he wants to milk that RIB era slayer thinking thats what Slayer fans want. No need to shake things up.
Exactly. This ain’t slayer, try something new for gods sake !
@@PatPossehahaha exactly. He won’t because we know he’s one dimensional.

Leftovers from the replentless album, which was already below par
Hahaha imagine that!
And for this reason Kerry will always be the small print in a festival lineup.
😅😅😅
He would be the one up guy
Hahaha yeah
Exactly!!
While the newer material Slayer were releasing wasn't their best, I was glad to always hear something new.
Yeah nothing wrong with that. Shame he decided to talk shit about every past bandmate…
@@PatPosse He seems cranky all the time. 😆 (KK)

That’s true, even when doing clinics or interviews you can tell he doesn’t know anything else

@PatPosse they lost the image and the sound they took of the spikes leather and pentagrams off and started wearing sports jerseys were at a metal show not the world series
Hahahaha
I'll give them South of Heaven, because it was "different". But like Master of Puppets, I knew those two were going to be the end for me. Both bands became band wagon bands after that, and let the masses water them down, barf. Nothing worse than people that shit on you over the same bands, become their new bestest fanboys. Barf again.
And today, Slayer announced to reunite to play some musicfests 😅
Yup. That’s some shit huh?
Funny usually I would be like WTF really! But dude I am feeling exactly like what you said. I listened to the song before I knew who was in the band and I had no idea that, that was Mark, He sounds great, I think he may be the one to make this band if it last....
Hi bud thanks ! I hope there’s more input from the other musicians throughout the album..
Sure its actually cool that Kerry is still playing as retired artists not doing too well usually.@@PatPosse

That’s cool of Paul. You might have a point when it comes to the shades…
Limelight seeker. REAL slayer has Tom, Jeff and Dave in it. Kerry is the guy that in band practice says the words “like this?” 2,000 times per hour.

i get it its off topic but hey im just reminissing
@@moustachio74 That's true.. I remember bands that had been out for their 20th anniversary and I was like, that's crazy!
I'm a huge fan of Slayer, but I have to say I'm not impressed either with Kerry King's solo debut so far. It just sounds like he's trying to keep something going that's done. Good luck with that.
True. In his defense, he did write it for Slayer… I would have chosen a different song to at least show something different and exciting… but that’s just me 🤷🏻♂️
I read an interview with him about 30 years ago where he dissed homeless people ,I decided there and then that he was a dick,he hasn’t done anything since then to change my opinion of him
I can see that…
Kerry King needs to retire. Jeff was Slayer
Jeff was definitely the MAN!
Your right about the drums. They sound is heavily compressed and light. The playing is amazing but i am with you on the production. They aren't very big sounding. Guitars sound great. Was hoping he would come up with something new. This is pretty much Slayer continued.
Maybe we’ll see more input from the other musicians throughout the album…
@@PatPosse We shall see.
yes we will!
KK makes Dave Mustaine sound like a humble team player
Hahaha yup
Hahaha yup
Tom had family he wanted to spend time with. When touring you can't spend quality time with family on the road and in the studio all the time.
And he has all the right to stay home if he wants to. Look at Kiko stepping down from Megadeth..
I’m sure there were but Tom is too much of a gentleman to flaunt that. I wonder how much longer he’ll put up with this…
To Jeff! Rip brother. Great dude. Made slayer, slayer
Definitely!
Facts!!
After Seasons, well, let's just be honest.
I think we all know what you mean... 😉
Hahaha nice. I agree man, Jeff was the man. Kerry should have taken the high road and handled whatever issues he has privately.
Keep your mouth shut about your old band mates and move forward. Most Slayer fans love Dave, Jeff and Tom. Tom shouldn’t have to keep touring to make you happy
Exactly!
I'm not gonna pick it apart like that. I'm glad he's still wants to play. I think he's gonna put out some great stuff.
Let’s hope so bro! I honestly wasn’t too mean about it I don’t think… lol
@PatPosse not at all brother! I enjoyed your thoughts.
😅😅🤘🏻
I heard part of the new song and I switched it off in absolute disgust.
Generic garbage is a far too polite description.
Legend in his own living room.
Hahaha damn!!
Slayers bowling ball has a cover band and he's in it. If you listen to slayer when hannenam died slayer should have retired then
I agree.
The production is garbage dude.
Exactly. Spot on!
Hahaha nailed it.
That's all I ask too... I don't have anything against him or wish him ill at all...
That's because Tom took Dave's side initially, Tom and Dave want nothing to do with Slayer especially post Jeff. Jeff was the primary writer once he was gone that was it.
I agree 100%. Or Maybe they don’t want anything to do with Kerry… 😅
Kyle Sanders is the older brother of Troy Sanders from Mastodon.
Never got into mastodon so I did not know that. Cool!
I would also like to bring up..that I have an old Slayer poster on my wall from like 1984 ..and Kerry actually had hair
That rules!!!
Can imagine him as a beastie boy lol no sleep til Brooklyn and fight for your right but i digress
Hahahahaha
RIP Jeff.
Perfect comment, I can’t say I disagree with a comma placement on it. 💯
We know it's common but why mention it now?
Your mentioning of writing credits on Reign In Blood are a bit skewed, as Jeff had the stronger presence musically on that album.
Totally
I am a SLAYER fan but I never really was a king fan, Jeff's songs were way better then king
Agreed!!
I think you're underestimating Kerry King I mean you you forget what he's contributed in Megadeth and in Beastie boys add influencing a bunch of people to this day
I don’t know… I am not forgetting that… he’s just not that good 🤷🏻♂️
Names a band after himself and shit talks the band that made him a successful musician, yet everyone else is the problem right? Not a creative thing in his new music, and i dont think im alone in that thought, Most uneventful boring album ive heard in years.
On point. I feel exactly the same way about it all. Lame, really…
King is the only member of Slayer that I never really liked. I'm a guitar player and I cried when Jeff died. I probably will never listen to King's band.
Ditto. Jeff was the man on and off stage. He gave me a Guitar pick after a show and was always a class act.
