I know you probably won’t see this, but I just wanted to thank you for all the wonderful information you’re making freely available, you are by far the clearest, most data driven channel on singing on UA-cam.
More great advice to help me do something I was already doing, but now more mindfully, Thanks! By the way, you have again thrown in a point about 'sound colour' -- light/dark -- without explaining. This is the only metaphorical concept you refer to in your videos that assumes your audience already has understanding of.
God bless you, man. I was watching something from your playlist just now, even as this notification came. ❤ I couldn't afford a vocal training course, but you made it available even for free. Appreciate you.
I’m so glad I found this channel. You’re honestly the best vocal coach on UA-cam. There’s great ones out there but to me no one explains things like you do. I’ve heard you say you love doing straw exercises. Could you please make a video explaining how to do them correctly? I keep trying but my voice always feels a little tired and hoarse afterwards. Is that normal? Thank you so much for all the amazing content you put out :)
Wow thanks a lot! I'll make a video on straw exercises at some point. Straw exercises should not make you go hoarse. The inverse. So something's definitely going wrong. For now three tips that might help: 1. Make sure your face is relaxed, not forced tense around the straw 2. Start with a light resistance (large diameter straw, straw only barely submerged in water) 3. Make sure your throat is relaxed and not tense Let me know if this helped!
@@bob.smeenk Yea, I've checked it out during last November and I've attempted to start to apply his breathing techniques and singing modifications, and adjusted them a bit for my own vocal instrument! Glad to know you also know the series and David too!💗
When you have time, can you please make a video on how to harmonize when singing with other people. I find it really hard to practice without feeling like I'm off key. I would really really appreciate it, if you could. That would mean the world to me.
That's so true. I always learn so much by listening to my favorite singers. My biggest inspiration is Dimash Qudaibergen. Of course, I'll never be as good as he is, but even the smallest details I can pick up from him already make a big difference to me. Thanks for the video, Bob! :)
You're welcome! Yes Dimash is incredible. But while I believe he was not unlucky with his genes, I also believe his skills mostly came from practice. So practice hard & smart and you can get there too :)
Wow, thank you!!!!! This is so helpful!!! However, I have a question: will you have a video on how to develop the ability to sing with distortion? Like, my favorite signer, ADO. These is some examples where you could find her distorted sound: ua-cam.com/video/U8BlNEKq0r8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/x1UsJ2Znjk0/v-deo.html
You're very welcome! I might, but I think the technique a bit tricky to teach it in an online video. I don't want to damage anyone's voices. I'll think about if and how I can incorporate distortion in a video. Until that time there are many people that do teach distortion online. My favourite one: Toni Linke. You should check out his channel

You are very welcome! And yes this is really Bob. I will try to keep reading and responding to all comments for as long as possible :)
Thank you Bob. I find your didatic aproach easy to understand how to apply it.
Great to hear! You're very welcome:)
this makes singing so much more approachable for me... thank you so much!!! taking notes and watching multiple times to hammer in the ideas
Glad it helped!

Haha oh no. I think I have a cool idea for a sound colour video. The script is halfway done :) might be a few weeks before it's online though

Thank you so much. This is exactly how I've been learning, but you gave me many more details that I haven't realized to pay attention to.
Great!

Thank you for absolutely great videos. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
You're very welcome!
Thankyou Bob great video
😁
Thanks for the video! I will work on it, as I really wanna sing like the world-class light lyric tenor, David Phelps!
You're welcome! There's a really cool series with David Phelps himself on the New York Vocal Coaching channel. Have you seen it?

Love your videos! ❤
Good to hear :)
That's what I do, imitating a singer.. and learning on your videos..❤❤❤

It's on my "to record" list! I think I've found an easy way to explain it and put it into practice!
