      I'm so torn. I do like the sound of both but when you turn away the mic you see that the pro has better audio quality, like you said, more fuller and in my country its a good $20 cheaper for the pro version than the original which is ironic.

      Took a lot of replays from your two videos on it but I’d have to go with the pro. Like you said the VXR10 does have that deeper range but the Pro just sounds cleaner and more natural. I feel like I could just use that without even editing the audio if I wanted to

    Thank you for the review. Personally I prefer the sound coming from the original VXR10 over the Pro. I am thankful for that because I own the original VXR10 mic basically due to your previous videos about it's performance. I got the VXR10 for $10 less than what the Pro is priced at but maybe that's unusual. Again, great videos and thanks for the detailed review!

    I like the MOVO VXR10 Pro for my voice for the same reason I like the Shure Beta 58a for my voice. I'm a baritone with a booming voice and both of those mics tame the low end. I don't have to EQ, just plug in and go for a smooth midrange. Match the mic to your voice or the application at hand. Thanks for the review.

    I know you’re a huge Movo fan and I bought two of them from your reviews. They’re great, however I discovered that the VideoMic Me-L from Rode with a lightning extension cable does the absolute best for me. Something about the lightning cable does so much better than the audio cable extensions I’ve been using. Interesting stuff

    When you added the sub 200 Hz back in, it sounded like you picked up a bit of extra noise from the room, or maybe from the camera's preamp. so personally, i like the low cut sound as is. your voice still had plenty of warmth and little noise, especially for the mic being camera mounted. well done! also bummed that the headphone jack not being able to monitor. but it's still a decent feature.

    • @AudioforContentCreators

      Definitely picked up some room noise. That's really the difference between adding in information that was captured super low, and actually capturing it properly in the first place. Thanks for watching!

    I still really enjoy the sound of the original mic over the new, the only thing is I wish I could get the new shock mount by itself without buying the new mic. Since the body seems about the same size it should hold the old one just fine.

    When it was available in Europe is bought 2 of them cause I was so excited. Unfortunately I most returned both, why: Move has made an patent on the used stereo and iPhone connection stereo or as you want the mono cables that comes with it. I remember used the competition cables and non of them worked with the upgrade version. Even where there issues with the headphone jack. I was not able to monitoring the sound connected the stereo cable TRS to the camcorder Panasonic HDC-SD90. I own a lot of Rode and competing cables for iPhone and camera, camcorders but again, to use the VXR10 pro is working only properly the cables that comes with it. The sound hasn’t the full stronger quality as the previous version. The previous version is good when the whether is normal but when freezing temperatures the move has issues to working well. Electric interferences while using external monitor and Mirascreen, I remember also an slightly tik, tik noise. Of course was I satisfied when the first generation Movo is used without all the accessories and just when it was only connected to the camcorder or iPhone which given in fact an louder thicker sound then every other competition shotgun. To noticed, the earlier Movo shotgun has not that patented cables, any other competition cable works but again, that is changed with the so called the upgrade version. The Movo's original advantage over the competition has been lost with this upgrade. I didn't foresee it but really, both microphones have been sent back to sender.

    Everyone in the reviews seemed to also think that the headphone jack allowed them to do live monitoring. The marketing was a little misleading. Still a great video.

    • @Autotrope
      @Autotrope Рік тому

      The headphone jack merely splits out the headphone channels from the TRRS plug so it'll take whatever is playing out through the headphones from your host device. There would be no way to do what you would expect unless the mic had active circuitry in it for amplifying the mic signal and so on. It's really just acting the same way as a TRRS to 2xTRS y-splitter would. It's a pretty convenient feature and would be of use in monitoring *if* your camera used TRRS and played the audio signal out through headphone channels as it recorded.

  • @Autotrope
    @Autotrope Рік тому +1

    Problem with the wind noise test is the camera's AGC (I presume) keeps cutting the volume right down because the low rumble is still making it through. You can improve that in post, or you might have been able to, except the levels are all over the place due to that AGC.

      @AudioforContentCreators  3 роки тому +1

      Awesome! Glad to help. Well, headphones that aren’t bulky is kind of subjective. The thing is, the best quality headphones for monitoring audio will always be over-ear headphones, because of the isolation from outside noise. And those tend to be bulky. My favorite industry standard headphones that actually fold down pretty compact are the Shure MDR-7506. They are not neutral by any stretch. They have a hyped low end and very crisp high end. So, they’re not necessary great for mixing, but they are fantastical for critical listening. You will hear EVERYTHING that is wrong with your audio in those (and that’s what you want when doing your processing).

    Brian: I purchased the MOVO VXR 10 Pro microphone with the expectation that I could use it as an inexpensive studio boom mike, connected to my Behringer mixer. It did not work. I reached out to MOVO for assistance. They sent this prompt reply: "Unfortunately, the VXR10 mic is not compatible with the mixer as mixers can only provide 12V phantom power which is too much for the mic since the mic only uses low plug-in power to operate. However, you can still use the mic with other devices such as smartphones or cameras that have an external mic input."

      Yes me too came across this issue. Has nothing to do with power - phantom power etc. It is simply, competitive cables such as Rode doesn’t work properly. This updated version works only fine with the cables that comes with. Further the second downside: the headphone works only connected again with there own cables with iPhonew. I can not speak for Android devices cause I do not own. Sorry not seen your reaction earlier! Myself I own the older version without headphone etc. The older version works with the competition cables contrary the as you have mentioned the update version. Had Movo not made this difficulties they had sold a lot more shotguns. I do not know what you have done with the experiences, myself, well as it was only usable on iPhone and not on the camcorder was the item not needed anymore and is it returned to the seller. This experience has given me an lesson. The exiting review is fine but I think he didn’t know it the time he made his review. Yes the older version VXR10 works great, I own it together with the Pixel M80. Which has an thinner sound. Is depends, at home is used Pixel 80 when is talked 1 meter away of the microphones and when needed outsides by moving around 2 - 3 meters is the Movo better because of his fuller sound. Greets Luc

Yes, it‘s a bit muddy in the bass, but that is great from a distance, indoors, especially when playing acoustic guitar and singing. Can‘t see what the Pro version might have to offer me. Your review compares the two, but you seem to be leaning towards recommending the new one?

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  3 роки тому +3

      Great question Scott. It's hard to compare them, they're such completely different mics. If I were booming for vlogging, especially with a phone, I'd go for the Pro. Crisp and detailed.
      But from a distance further than about 18" probably the original, for the reasons you stated. The new Pro really thins out after 2'.

      Audio for Content Creators Thanks for your insight on this. As a home filmer also into recording music, I think I‘ll forego getting the Pro and stick with the original. Also sometimes using the AVerMedia Live Streamer Mic 133 instead of the Movo, together with a Rode Wireless Go for up-close vocals (with the two signals running into a DXA Micro Pro in stereo mode). Just getting started with this, so haven‘t yet got an opinion on whether the AVerMedia or the Movo will end up being my go-to boom mic. Will first need to experiment with distances and how post-processing works with each. The AVerMedia has a far better mount, though. Sure wish I could get the Pro‘s much more stable mount for use with my old Movo. Might approach Movo about that.

      @@scottbecker3485 Any particular reason you're opting for on-camera shotgun mics as opposed to pro grade XLR mics and an interface, for recording music?

    • @scottbecker3485
      @scottbecker3485 3 роки тому

      Audio for Content Creators Your very astute question is appreciated. The answer is that the music is going to only be one element of „normal“ UA-cam videos. So talking bits plus an occasional „live“ song that fits the topic at hand. And I figure it would be too obtrusive to have visible studio mics between me and the audience. So the boom mic will be aimed lower down, more at the guitar, and the Rode will more pick up the talking and singing. I will then mix the two signals to get a good balance during the songs (and maybe also include some of the boom mic signal on the talking bits). All this of course subject to trial, error and possible changes. I should add that I chose to build my set-up around small, easy-to-carry components so I can also easily carry everything for occasional outdoor videos. (Filming, by the way, with my iPhone XR, both indoors and out). And I figured it makes sense to film and audio record everything with one and the same set-up so I don‘t have to keep changing settings or end up needing to post-edit things too much so my videos all have a similar look-and-feel. I‘m super well equipped with dynamic and condenser mics, include a large-diaphragm condenser, and I also have an old and wonderful RME Babyface as an interface, so that will be my Plan B. Also curious to see how my old Sennheiser MD 441 might work out from a distance. It‘s just that those set-ups take up a lot more space at home and need to be put away and brought back out each time I need them. We‘ll see if my quick-and-dirty approach will pan out in the end. ;-) Thanks again for the great input, also in many other of your videos I‘ve enjoyed learning from!

      @@scottbecker3485 That makes sense! I should do an update video on using these mics for YT singer/songwriter setups like you describe here. The original VXR10 does a great job for the price on acoustic guitar and vocals, when capturing with one mic for a YT video.

    Hello Brian, great video, thank you! I’m keen to begin doing some UA-cam videos using my Nikon D7200, and have tested it on OBS with a $20 video capture card, and a separate Blue Snowball mic, connected to a MacMini vi USB. I’ve ensured the Nikon’s inbuilt microphone is set to OFF. My issue is that the audio is not syncing with video. Is it possible that connecting a Movo VXR10 Pro directly to the Nikon’s mic input, could help remedy this audio issue? Or would it better going straight into the MacMini? Either way I need to get a 3.5mm extension cord (about 6’) to connect the VXR10 Pro to the camera or Mac. 3 minutes into this video you mentioned the 2 types of cables that come in the box. If you could clarify which type is best suited in this instance for a mic extension I’d be very grateful! I’ve given you a thumbs up, subscribed, and clicked the bell notification. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge so well - cheers, Graham

      Audio and video travel at different speeds. Many audio processing applications allow for an audio sync delay to compensate. OBS has it under Advanced Audio, Audio Hijack has it, etc. Try 100ms for an audio sync delay.
      Otherwise, yes. Using a mic connected to the camera will solve this issue.

      Audio for Content Creators Thank you, for the informative and fast response Brian :)
      I actually did try that adjustment in OBS but the sync issue remains.
      I think connecting a mic directly to the camera may well be the way to go.
      Thanks to you I’m being swayed down a different route as your excellent review of the Movo VSM-7 & PreSonus AudioBox has really got me thinking; I can see myself entering the podcast arena one day too.
      Thanks again for all the value you add. So pleased I found your UA-cam Channel.

      I wouldn’t say it’s a negligible difference. They have fundamentally different tonal characteristics. If they sound that similar to you it’s really worth going to a quiet place, putting on the best headphones you have (over ear are better than earbuds) and listening critically. Train your ears to notice how much bass versus mids versus treble you’re hearing. Would you use words like boomy, thin, muddy, nasally, bright, harsh, airy, etc to describe the sound?
