SUMMARY:
In short, this is an extremely compact, low-cost and decent quality mic. It's effortless to set up and sounds great. It is a little limited in functionality, so if you need a low cut filter or adjustable output levels, you'll need something more involved. For a basic but huge improvement on most smartphone microphones, this is perfect. It's an ideal alternative to the Rode VideoMicro. It connects to a camera with plug-in power via the supplied TRRS to TRS cable (see the video for more details) or to a smartphone via the TRRS to TRRS cable.
ETHICS NOTE:
This microphone was sent to me for review, but all opinions are my own and non of my content is scripted or influenced by third parties. I will not accept a product for review unless the company is willing to accept an impartial review. Movo were entirely happy with this.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you enjoyed the video.

I just picked this up brand new this morning from my local Goodwill on 'senior discount day.' The windshield is still in the shrink wrap plastic and the sponge windshield is still sparkly new. No fingerprints anywhere. Brought it home and tested it and the records very well on my gaming laptop. Tested with Audacity and a Targus USB hub/docking station. Flawless. No complaints. Knew nothing of the brand. So thanks for the review.
Great review! Looking forward to adding this to my gear.
Great review! Knowledgeable and to the point. This is my first time using this
Great video - thanks for the review!
Thanks for the video! It was in my recommended, so I gave it a watch. I own a small, local newspaper in a rural area, and I'm also the paper's only remaining reporter. I have recorded every public meeting (about 15 per month) since 2018 and countless interviews with nothing but this microphone and an iPhone. I use it for Facebook live when possible, too. It works perfectly, and has done from day one. If you are on the fence about buying this mic, I say just get it. It made a huge difference for us by giving us a cost effective way to bring good audio with video to our subscribers.
Found it for $18 on Amazon, shouldn’t be regretting! Thank you.
Completely agree with regards to the headphone jack. It’s certainly not intuitive and misleading. You saved me from returning the mic. Excellent video. Would love to see some wind tests (using a fan), and how some mics handle background noise-at least in some future videos. Best of luck.
Thanks! You were so specific 👌🏼
Great review, thank you!
audio test up front? I love you
Good senceable review. Knowledge produces product not equipment alone.
Excellent review! My girlfriend and I just started a UA-cam channel and the first bit of kit I bought was the Two Lapel Microphone Interview Set from Power de Wise. We're in Portugal so a lot of the stuff we get comes from brands offered from AMZ Spain. We plan on doing some on-site videos as well where it won't be practical to use the lav's so I've been looking at budget shotgun mic's and thanks to your detailed review, it looks like the next purchase will be the Movo. Well done!
Great review! Sounds like a handy mic especially at that price.
amazing video . thank you:)
Hi, I agree with you regarding that there is no need for a huge hardcore to protect a very robust mic. But it is nice to use it to cover other more fragil items.
+1 like for straight to the point introduction
That joint sound good to me
I have a Tentacle Sync Track E audio recorder. That plus this Movo would make a nice little plant mic to hide somewhere! The Track E provides 5V of plugin power... that should be enough to power this Movo, right? If an iPhone can power it... surely the 5V from the Track E can too! 😎
Considering the price, sounds pretty good to me. Nice video.
it sucks

Amazing 👍
If it really is a 'sound back out' monitoring bypass, shouldn't you be able to just connect your phone and play a song to see if any sound comes out of the monitor jack? I just can't get it to work!
Nice video
Awesome review. I just got this mic and was excited to use the monitoring out. Do you know which apps allow for the playback?
I wonder if there's an app to bypass the audio/ manage levels back through that headphone out.🤔
Mine always sounds too "hot" and loud even adjusting camera settings to hitting -12db at most... any tips? :(
Hi. I enjoyed your review on the movo vxr10 pro external microphone. I would like your opinion on audio sound quality issues that I'm currently having using my Samsung A50 (mid-range) smartphone. As a Musical drummer when I'm recording my symbols through my smartphones built-in microphone I'm getting some clipping and some distortion. I upgraded to an external microphone called "SmartMic UC Mini"6 that plugs directly into a USB C port but unfortunately the results are just about the same. Would you think that this movo vxr10 Pro would resolve my issue making cleaner audio recordings or do you think this is more of a phone recording issue than a microphone issue. Thank you.
Thank for sharing! I wonder, is there any way to record two Movo VXR10 Pro Mics into a phone (for audio and video recording)?
Mine has terrible background noises any advice ?
that carrying case is perfect. There are tons are iPhone shooters who will mount this to a phone cage on trips for a higher production quality. I personally won't use my carrying case often, but I'm excited to test this mic out once my Pocket Cinema 4K comes in.
Yes, nothing wrong with the case at all. I’m just not sure how many people will actually use it. 👍🏻
How does this mic sound with instrumental music
Can I run this into a xlr input on the bmcc4k?
I know very little about audio...what does “level matched” mean? What app do you use to record your tests?
If I said that, I would have meant making them the same volume. If you’re comparing mics, it’s easy to perceive one as better quality if it’s louder than the other. Matching the levels / volume as much as possible makes for a better comparison.
I am going to a conference and want to record from my iPhone for my podcast and this seems like a great mic for it. Has anyone used this in a conference setting?
How good is it outside when is windy
I’ve bought this mic to pair up with my nikon d500 but it doesn’t work. Any ideas why please?
HI, I HAve a question, i have this mic and i use it in weddings, but the sound is awfull, dont know why
hello so i bought this miC for my gopro to have beter sond qualto and i wanted to plug it in to my gopro hero9 but i Can an not figer it out Can you make a video on that please thank you vare muCh
Have you got the Media Mod? It should be pretty much plug and play with that.
@@tdcattech o no I do not have that
@@tdcattech I just have a type C adaptor I put it into the charging block
What is with the headphone output jack? I can't ever hear / audit anything when using on Canon M50 or Galaxy S10. What am I missing?
It relies on a loopback (which won’t work on a camera). This can work on a phone setup but only if the app supports it. For example, the iPhone camera doesn’t work but Filmic Pro does. It’s a very limited feature, hence my words of caution in the video.
@@tdcattech Thank you for the reply. Now I can stop testing and swapping cables about. Actually relieved to know it's never going to work after all. Still a decent mic for the money. But still I want to have something / anything that I can test / audit that audio is good before I record with the Canon M50. I made that mistake once before. I don't want to do that again.
This was absolutely maddening and I almost returned the mic thinking it was defective. Glad to have found this video. He’s spot on about that hp jack behaving as a pass-thru via trrs.
Thanks for the vid. How does it mount to a smart phone?
Hah yep
is this mic good enough for a presenter 6 feet away? how about compared to a lavalier or true shotgun?
No. If the closest you can get any mic (expensive shotgun or budget mic like this) is six feet, I would definitely go with a lav if the audio matters. Might be OK outside in a quiet area where the mix of the room ambience won't be a factor.
40 lb microphone. Yeeesh that’s heavy. ; P
At 40 lbs... that mic is too heavy for what I need. Thanks for the review though
He didn’t mean it was 40 pounds of weight. He meant it cost £40 in England. In America it’s $49.95 on Amazon. I hope you see this and I hope this helps. Cheers
I think you have a different definition of shotgun mic to me. That's a supercardioid
I’m used to those terms being used interchangeably
@@barretthathaway4526 shotgun mic has the interference tube to cancel out off axis audio, rather than just using the dual surfaces on the cartridge to do electronic rejection
Noise muff...not dead cat please.
How about furry wind protector?
@@tdcattech hahahahahhh
it sucks
Why?
@@tdcattech movo always have some unnatural bass at his microphones.
@@tdcattech THey are cheap and usefull but not natural. i prefer shure or rode video mic.
Great sound for the money IMHO. I still regularly use this mic on my small cameras.
