is it me or do all the female companion characters in this franchise
seem to have a lot of similar core traits

They do be having similarities, that's for sure.
Technically speaking, Ema doesn't have any abilities.
She just has an interest in forensic science.

It has always seemed very strange to me that Ema and Maya interact so little throughout the saga, I understand that there are reasons why, but it seemed like a missed opportunity for SOJ for not delving into some kind of relationship between these two.

Nicely done! I would like to see Pearl one day visit her actual sister in Iris. I always felt that was a missed opportunity that the two never got to speak to one another. I do think the two would've gotten along very well and loved one another dearly. I know Iris has to look after Sister Bikini, but I would love for Iris to be around Maya, and Pearl. I think the three of them would be a nice happy family.

You know I never understood why Phoenix never mentioned to Maya how he helped out Ema Skye with her sister. That always bothered me in Spirit of Justice.

It's kind of weird when I think about it but Maya and Ema have never really interacted. Obviously in the first game they did not, and Ema appeared in AJ and the AAI duology where maya wasnt present. The only game they appear together is SOJ but i dont think they interacted at all.
And yet for whatever reason, Maya and Ema know each other in SoJ. It's an odd predicament for sure, lol.
