RAF PILOT BRUTAL TYPHOON DISPLAY WITH AWESOME INVERTED FLYPAST AFTER DEMO • RAF CONINGSBY 02.05.24

- Ladies, gents and teddy bears, this is Turbo's second display in the new 2024 Typhoon display livery nicknamed “Moggy”. The display looked brutal and we think that Turbo was so pleased with his display that he requested an inverted flypast for the fans.
The Royal Air Force made history on the 22nd April 2024 by revealing their new Typhoon display livery for 2024. It has been 3 years since the last livery was produced, with the all famous and much loved ‘Blackjack’, which flew the Union Flag Livery.
Today, at RAF Coningsby, the new livery was revealed on a very wet day. As it is the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy this year, the theme to the Typhoon’s livery was given this honour. The new livery is painted in the Hawker Typhoon scheme with 257 Squadron markings which includes the squadron markings which was FM, Camo and D-Day (or invasion) Stripes.
The black and white stripes are what are known as D-Day or Invasion stripes. These stripes were to help identify friendly aircraft from enemy aircraft. The yellow slats on the leading edges of the wings also played a similar purpose to help identify allied aircraft. D-Day was a joint operation and with many countries such as Canadian, American and British involved, being hit by enemy fire would be a risk, so the D-Day stripes would help identity friendly aircraft. Though one thing to point out is that Hawker Typhoon had the black and white stripes before D-Day to not get mistaken for the Bf 109’s.
On D-Day, the specific markings FM-G, the Hawker Typhoon aircraft was flown by Pilot Officer Denzel Jenkins. The Typhoon serial is ZJ913.
This year’s RAF Typhoon Display pilot is Flt Lt David ‘Turbo’ Turnbull. We normally expect to hear callsign ANARCHY1 when it comes to the RAF Typhoon display pilot, however, this year, the display pilot's callsign is "TURBO"! Well, if there was a callsign available that had your nickname, you’d surely take it. The callsign is actually from RAF LOSSIEMOUTH’S 6 Squadron and Turbo has borrowed it from them for the year which mean 6 Squadron are without this callsign.
Flight Lieutenant David "Turbo" Turnbull is this year's RAF Typhoon Display pilot and he has already produced a particular sequence that will wow the crowds. The slow aileron roll into the max alpha is a signature manoeuvre from Turbo! He is becoming one of the best Typhoon display pilots of all time. With a hard deck of 100ft, let's ride!
We normally expect to hear callsign ANARCHY1 when it comes to the RAF Typhoon display pilot, however, this year, the display pilot's callsign is "TURBO"! Our display pilots nickname is 'Turbo' but is it not Anarchy1? We knew that this year was going to be different and TURBO is the new callsign for the display pilot, which has been borrowed from Lossiemouth's 6 Squadron.
This year's 2024 Typhoon Display Pilot, David "TURBO" Turnbull will be doing his first set of 10 practice displays at 1,500ft and then will lower it to 500ft hard deck before being allowed to smack it right down to 100ft. Once you hear callsign TURBO1, there will be excitement. However, Turbo will also be carrying out practice displays around the country, this is to prepare him and get used to performing displays away from the home base, which is what airshow season is all about. Before Turbo will be allowed to display at airshows, he will need to achieve and obtain his PDA (Public Display Authority). Without this insurance, he will not be able to display at airshows and venues. The other responsibility is once a pilot obtains a PDA, they cannot go more than 10 days with some sort of display, whether practice or real world at air shows. Failing this would result in having to re-apply for a PDA.

Oii Oii ladies, gents and teddy bears. This year, we are fortunate enough to have TWO display liveries. What are your thoughts on Moggy? Wouldn’t it be cool to see Blackjack and Moggy in formation together! Let us know your thoughts in the comments, we’d love to hear from you. Don’t forget to support our channel by clicking the LIKE button and subscribing
I will have to send them my versions of Moggy and Blackjack 😊
Wait I thought Moggy was replacing Blackjack?
@@nickward4963 They are a fantastic sight.. 👏
The BBMT - Blackjack Brighty Moggy Turbo - that's got to be the best combo & acronym ever! Bring it on RAF!
Man that sucker is really agile
What a beautiful bird & amazing pilot! Thanks for sharing, from Oregon, USA 😊
Oiii oiii Oregon 🤙🏼 thanks so much. Ooohhh yeah
About ten years ago on a peaceful evening I was driving home on a back road in the East Yorkshire Wolds, then from nowhere came this tremendous roar, my car started shaking and I thought it was going to explode. Then, I briefly saw the Typhoon which very rapidly went into a vertical climb and just disappeared. I'm sure the pilot was using me as target practice as a laugh, he was that low over my car. Felt very privileged and will never forget it.
I had a very similar experience years ago, it was not a typhoon though as they would have still been on the drawing board at the time, but what ever make it was, it gave me the fright of my life,
They actually can pick certain vehicles (and buildings) as a practice targets for strafing and to lock ok to. We’ve heard them on the radio once use our van lol
Buzzed by an A10 25yrs(?) ago over Norfolk/Cambs. Fenland, I and Citroen 2CV both shaken and stirred... A10 climbed away in a full roll.
Those D-Day stripes look amazing on the Typhoon. Thank you for sharing.
Ooohh yeah
Thank you for sharing. Brilliant need to see more of this👍
They really do.
Imagine if they had a squadron of these in 1944
I have never seen a modern RAF fighter in that livery. This is battle dress.
As mentioned in the description of this video:

Both aircraft look absolutely amazing, representing 2 different eras with their liveries, only our wonderful RAF could do this! I have to say, it would be something "very special" if they were to perform together in tandem at an airshow! Wonder if that could/would be considered! Perhaps our Squadron Leader should have a "quiet word"! The inverted flypast down the runway was awesome, well done Turbo & Moggy
Oii oiii Colin thank you so much. We are fortunate to have two liveries this year and will have that “quiet word” would be awesome to see them together.
yeah only the RAF can do this. others not. how could they?
What skill. Three cheers from NYC. My thanks and admiration.
Oii Oii Ruth
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE that paint job. And what a display.
Oii oiii thanks David
Paint job spells sacrifice, freedom and a massive debt to a past generation.
Man, the Typhoon has always been one of my favourite fighter jets, alongside the Rafale... what an epic piece of engineering.
A fine Saturday morning shake down with A Typhoon aka Moggy and David 'Turbo' Turnbull. This I think today is where the Legend of Turbo is etched forever, here..
From the moment Turbo and Moggy taxi, shining brightly in the sun its a picture and we know something special is about too happen. Straight in with a magic swooping roll. We now getting to see moves and intricacies not witness with other Typhoon. Blackjack put through the mill, pushing the airframe too the limits.
Slow roll towards camera 7:15 is a real beauty. The signature slow roll into the Max Alpha, the serenity of it all. Not for Turbo no doubt, that cockpits alive! Such a deft of touch. How to fall in love with a Typhoon in less than 17 minutes. ❤. 9:50 with one of my favourites that Inverted flypast into a climb, breathtaking! Sublime and the elegance of it all. Spluffage surrounds this dart we call Moggy! 12:16 climb and roll just effortless.
13.:12 Swoops low into another captivating inverted flypast. Turbo take a bow, rapturous applause. Yep the Legend of Turbo is written. Into land for a well earned drink after parking Moggy in the garage 👌👍🫡😉
Now that's a Demo!
Excellently captured there Ted and Nikos..
Oii Oii Dan, another fantastic demo by Turbo 🤙🏼Ooohhh yeah
I can think or worse ways of earning a living 🙂Kudos to the pilot and to the huge pyramid of roles that have to do their bit get the aircraft into the air! Fantastic display and the invasion stripes looked brill
2 of the Coningsby boys were mock dogfighting right over my house today. Their manoeuvrability is incredible: they make F15s look like they're in slow motion. And the noise.......!
Give me an EE Lightning sat up the chuff of a pair of incredulous Harrier Pilots in the hover, he lit his tail pipe and disappeared to FL110. 5mins later he was out of fuel and glided 240miles back to base at Mach 1.4 to Mach 1 before executing a perfect landing, in 1972. Cracked a few windows. And went from the wash, over Windermere and landed at Valley….. only plane ever to catch Concorde.
I’ll be willing to challenge max speed/ climb against the F/15 Eagle.
@@davidbaker9089 The Typhoon climbs like a homesick angel. It's thrust:weight ratio is far higher than the F15EX because it's much lighter, so it can climb far faster. However, it's max speed IS less, though planes almost never fly at anything like max speed.
@@MrHistorian123 still gotta differ. When i discharged F15 still had rate of climb to 10k record and max speed ( for fighter). But there is and will always be a need for speed. Which is why they’re wanting to epuip the SR71 with fighting equipment. Couldn’t you imagine. 2500 mph plane with bullets and bombs. I forget what they’re calling it, other than - - damn. 😳
@@davidbaker9089 Given that, at very high speeds, engine damage is more likely and fuel consumption goes through the roof, planes rarely use anything like their top speed. My sports car will do 180mph. Have I ever reached that speed? Nowhere near. Acceleration is more important and the Typhoon's lower mass gives it a massive advantage over the F15.
2 legends in complete control with unbelievable skill in their fields 👏 Awesome flying Turbo and Awesome camerawork Nikos
Oii Oii Nick thank you so much 🤙🏼
Magnifique hommage au Spitfire !!
Ted Coningsby, count me in - Blackjack & Moggy duo display, yes, yes, yes! Brighty & Turbo, yes, yes, yes!
Oii oii Margo, as Colin mentioned in his comment, I will have a “quiet word” to see if we could action this
@@TedConingsby yes please a quiet word is in order 😎😁
Even as an unashamed vintage fighter enthusiast, I have to say a Typhoon pulling hard turns is a glorious sight! 😎
Oohh yeah
Who ever is flying he certainly can fly the typhoon.... Amazing.. . It reminds me of those paper dart planes we made when we were kids and throwing across the room...
I found Typhoon the most gravity-defying airplane !
It does incredible maneuvers at extra low speed...
Ooohh yeah
Absolutely brilliant filming ! 👍
Oii Oii thank you very much
Amazing plane! It makes very high G-turns without losing speed. I guess the first thing the pilot wants to do after landing is taking a shower. Must be extremely exhausting flying such a plane this way. Want to see this one day in Belgium.
Der pilot zeigt wirklich was in dem Flugzeug steckt, unglaublich.....😮
Oooohhh yeah
That's one hell of a physically fit pilot to withstand that abuse.
I couldn't do it.
Thanks for posting this. It was awesome. Like being in the front row, yourself.
Agreed. They look like a lot of fun to fly, but the G-forces have to be intense.
Marvelous display of flying skill with this nimble bird. Impressive.
"The Superbo" if there ever was someone 'pulling out all the stops' for something, then this is them. Air shows & the World, this rather fine pilot isn't called Turbo for nothing. Putting "Moggy" through her paces & she better get used to that incredible Leaping Salmon & Max Alpha manoeuvre! Turbo, well done, magnificent, magical and mesmerising. You've nailed it! Best wishes for the air show season ❤
I get the feeling the next bear to join the TCS needs to be a pilot called Max-Alpha 🐻
@@Dex_The_Paladin that would be a great call sign too. Hope you're doing well x
Oii oiii Margo what a display and what a day this was ooohhh yeah
Turbo knew you were filming - special Ted fly past! Would love to see Moggy and Blackjack together - great representation of past and present. Would also love to see Moggy with the BBMF, and Blackjack with the Reds in their special year!
He sure did Ellesee
Love the paint job, like WW2 mid 44 era!! ❤
Great skills in front and behind the camera. Typhoon is one awesome bird of prey!
Such a beautiful aircraft.
Luv when he lifts her nose and glides her slowly across the sky, real control & skill.
Oii oiii Julie glad you like that manoeuvre. It’s called a Max Alpha (also known as High Alpha) and the speed is approximately 90knts
Amazing, how still it looks in mid air! 😮. Scary plane, to face in a war!.
Look how agile it's is from its short take off to its maneuverability is astounding !! :-) :-) :-) :-)
It’s thrust to weight ratio gives it that power
Saw one of these at Bournemouth in a fly-by with a Spit. Had to fly at 60 degrees plus just to slow down enough to keep pace, then ascended straight up into the clouds. Awesome plane.
Very nice indeed..from an American..as if it really matters but we love RAF pilots. Absolutely phenomenal flying..beautiful fighter jet the Typhoon …thank you for this..
Oii Oii thank you so much 🤙🏼
Good show Ted. I would like to think that this pilot may come out to Australia next March 2025 for the Avalon Airshow in Victoria. Fom Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you
I wander if Turbo got his display training from Archie Liggat! He was the 1992 Phantom display pilot from 74 Fighter squadron RAF Wattisham. HAPPY days Indeed 😊👍
Best RAF Phoon display in years! Innovative and skillful. Looking forward to Cosford! ❤
Oii Oii Jonathan
Would have liked to have seen some in the cockpit footage provided by RAF
Blackjack and Moggy, how special would that be ??? Fantastic display by Turbo as always
That would be awesome
What a treat. Moggy. Thought she might have been off to The Loop.
just found out , the last of the 6 RAF Hercs has been flown out to Bangladesh . So glad they haven't jusr scrapped them all !!
Oii Oii Steve and Geoff. We actually managed to catch one on our Mildenhall stream on Thursday in the distance over Cambridge.
Turbo always delivers like a midwife. He’s always on knifes edge. Sheer perfectionist. Top man 👊🏽
That Typhoon is painted up with a WW2 vibe. Looks like a spitfire with the D-Day invasion stripes. Awesome
As written in the description for this video:

absolutely amazing, fantastic flying Turbo and brilliant camera work Nikos
Oii Oii Babs. Thank you very much. What a display
Turbo 1 is the real deal... it still amazes me the more I see his display mature.. simply very impressive
It sure is and it’s only going to get more and more sharper, like a prawn cocktail crisp
Turbo in the sunshine. Hopefully, a regular scenario in the airshow calendar. Superb display and camera work
And Blackjack and Moggy together. Let me think……
Oii Oii Sie, thanks man🤙🏼Mogfy and Blackjack Oohh yeah
Love the D-Day inspired livery!
Brilliant!!! Love that sound, never tire of it. Miss seeing and hearing it.
Thank you
I just love the Typhoon so much ❤❤
Ooohh yeah
Amazing camera 📷 work as always Nikos, can't wait to see 'TURBO' @ Old Buckingham Airshow OOH YEAH in my New Let's Ride T shirt 😀 😎
Ooiii oiii LET’S RIDE!! Thanks Ian see you soon man
@@TedConingsby Hopefully see you with keeno in half-term buddy 🫡👍😎
In 2003 while driving a lonely desert highway in California one of these passed maybe 200 ft overhead, rolled, then went to afterburners, pulled straight up then gone. Next day told my flight instructor (was about to get my instrument cert), told him it was very low, fast with delta wing canards, two big engines but just one vertical stabilizer. He insisted it was not possible (arrogant, but an excellent instructor). Several years later learned it was the Typhoon. My guess it was out of Edwards or China Lake showing the Americans what it could do.
Wow just came across your channel what a display It was so nice to see our pilots doing a shakedown for the crowd and loved the D-day stripes to commemorate our boys and of course the brave American soldiers who died fighting for freedom and for England and Europe they will always be our brothers in Arms and in friendship anyway what a hell of a display and camera -ship have subscribed and liked and all that stuff so all the best from John from Rugby UK.
Oiii Oii John🤙🏼oiii oiii Rugby and thanks for coming across our unique military aviation channel. We hope you enjoy our livestreams and videos. If you get a chance, be sure to give us an oiii oiii on one of our livestreams.
Glad you like this video of Turbo displaying in the new livery for 2024. Ooohhh yeah
Fly the wings off boys, you’re legends ❤
Ooohhhhh yeah
If somehow it was a two seater in that fighter and I was in it then just of that single flight i would be aching and sore for at least a week I couldn't take all those G's people don't realize how fit you have to be to fly like that and relatively speaking it was a short flight those pilot's are amazing they really are :-) :-)
Oh. to have had a Typhoon (modern) on D-Day with unlimited ordnance.
I'll bet he enjoyed that. Was stationed there for 4yrs on Phanton F4
Oii Oii Dave thank you so much for serving our country 🤙🏼🫡
i need to show this on my school bus .... cool get the screens out in morning . normally have heart fm on.
That's what I call a high energy display!!!! Oh to be young again.
"Strenght and "honer to the pilot. 🇬🇧💯
Up until now I've never actually watched a Typhoon takeoff, up in the air in 10 seconds! like it was nothin! wooooowie
Oohh yeah
There’s a video of a Vulcan already in the air in 13 seconds and pulling an insane turn a few seconds later
Love the D day paint. Look awesome! 😎👍
Ooohhh yeah
Nikos Brighty and Turbo performing a special display over a selected RAF Airfield would be awesome flying Blackjack and Moggy as a pair one inverted the other mirrored down the runway.
Oiii oiii Edward thanks so much man
Now that was a cool pilot!
Ooohhh yeah
Wow it's unbelievable how fast the pick up is from a standing start it's looks like it's flying when it's on the ground it's an unbelievably good but off kit deadly as they come and clown by some of the best pilot's in the world !!:-) :-)
:_typuoon:
Thanks for putting that up, really enjoyed it, good commentary as well 🙂
Oii Oii Rick thank you very much
I'm impress with the TYPHOON's demo. Didn't think it could do such a good demo.
ive seen quite a few airshows in my day and various jets but i have to say this was AMAZING
Ooohhh yeah
This was really cool. Love the paint.
Brilliant demo. Absolutely brilliant .
Oii Oii thank you
Wot an amazing display & wot a pilot . . . Thanku so much ❤
Oii oiii glad you enjoyed
very good photography.Thank you very much it was awesome
Thank you
That, right there, is some serious g loading . A hot bath and a back rub for the piot !!!
Oohh yeah
Well I've never seen a fast jet pull a wheelie before 😂
This is a very common landing procedure called Aerodynamic Braking which can be seen on nearly every live show. Aircraft will touchdown on the rear gear and kind of like the same idea as a spoiler on a car to create drag to slow the aircraft down before the front gear/nose drops.
Brilliant as always😊
Oiii Oii Jake thank you
Fantastic display of piloting skills
Oohh yeah
D-Day paint job is superb.
Oii oiii thanks Pierre
Great camera work BTW!!! Very professional
Oii oiii thank you very much
A brilliant pilot, Turbo
In to his 'phoon he would go
He'd throw moggy around
10 foot o'er the ground
Making the crowd gasp & say woah!
👏👏👏👏👏
Like it 😁 not bad at all x
Oii Oii Dex, great poem dernaow
I've been at Coningsby myself,I got to see the typhoons, love to go back,I also wanna get to the mach loop in North Wales soon as possible
Great filming Nikos, as always . Thanks😊
Oii Oii Andy thank you
Thank you, looking forward to seeing this later in the year. Noticed the high AofA practice for flying with warbirds. Unusual to see a couple of ASRAAM mounted for display practice. Expecting trouble?
Any ordinance are inert and this is a standard training configuration for RAF Typhoons.
This pilot loves eating G's for fun....... Impressive.... The speed sometimes was almost afraiding, very very cool
Thank you!
Excellent camera work,awesome sight.
Oii Oii Tony thank you
Boy he's pulling some G's there 😮
What a great video. Amazing fighter performance.
That display is something else!
Oii oiii
Amazing performance. Had been so great!!
What a BEAST.
Brilliant.
Amazing footage, well done!
Blackjack on the more weather emotional days & mogy for those clear sky days

They dont call it typhoon for nothing, this fighter is second to none in terms of dogfight skills
