- Russian Su-27 fighter jets attempt to intimidate a USAF SR-71 Blackbird, sometime during the Cold War era.

Retried in 1999. No way modern Russian fighter has even seen one, much less keep up.
Su-27 was first flown in 1984. The SR-71 Blackbird's last flight was 1999.
@@iceman_fox1 they were built to combat the SR-71. Yet nobody knew how fast or how high the SR-71 could fly. The Russians lost before they started.
You lost ~10000 airframes in vietnam, let's not talk about plane and helicopter losses
@@Stein871 because SR-71 flew combat mission over Vietnam?
I might be wrong but they were Recon/Photo takers? No SR-71 was lost from enemy attempts. Name another plane that can say that?
@@Stein871 may I ask what advanced aircraft has your country produced?
No. As a US Air Force aviation meteorologist, I conducted MANY DD Form 175-1 Flight Weather Briefings to SR-71 aircrew. Part of that were winds and flight hazards at altitude. They ROUTINELY flew at FL850...and ain't no plane going to get anywhere near them.

Agree, 100%
Unless it was just before or after refueling. But realistically, those operations would take place over friendly territory.
@@GrantOakes - Any plane penetrating Russian airspace has very long legs. The could easily be topped off within site of northern Alaska or Canada.
And who was filming that?!!
@@donkloos9078 perhaps someone in a B2
What’s really crazy is that the SR 71 is 60 years old and still an impressive machine!
Cool video but, were su27s around when the SR-71 was in service? And I thought sr71s were decommissioned and relegated to "on display" only. Sr71 would have gotten ghost long before any threat got close enough to even smell it's vapor trail.
Much less being designed without the benefits of computer design.
My grandmother's 91 and she rocks!
I wonder how many think this is real and not from a game.
Apparently the "Director of the Department of Information and Press at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs" does, so there's that
@@RandomPerson8492 And the director of computer generated bullschitt...
And where exactly is the camera recording this??? This AI stuff is getting too scary and close to the real thing...
@@tomcampbell6384 All that's new here is graphics processing - mainstream media has been propagating lies and misinformation for decades.....to the point the average person isn't even aware of it.
I never know what to believe anymore when watching these videos
Looks fairly realistic for a CG game.
SR71 would never let them get that close in the first place
Correct. The SR-71 is unarmed. It would never fly visual sub-sonic with hostiles.
Not sure what to make of it, but that's pretty much what a 71 can do. As for who is really flying those 27's? I don't think they were real hostiles. It's a show-off video, probably meant as propaganda directed at Russian intelligence. Nothing like telling the truth about our equipment vs their fighters. "Catch me if you can!"
Of course this is a hoax. Who's the camera man filming this?
@@chaosopher23 the counter to the SR-71 is the Mig-25 Foxbat. Can it do the job? Who knows? The US never let the SR-71 anywhere near a Mig-25.
@@TheWallReports DCS camera or is it mfs2020 filming this.
That never happened, no way they would get that close, the sr-71 would just kick in the juice and say by by.
A lot of these videos are AI generated. Look almost real.
My thought. I can’t see a Blackbird pilot letting anybody crowd him
@@Hawken54 ai is getting scary good, cant believe your eyes anymore.
It was done with DCS. It's a computer game.

Must be AI. Three Russian jets in the air ….. at the same time? 😳
Four. You have to count in the guy that is filming.
Picture quality is also pretty good for the Cold War period?
Russia has plenty of fighter jets. I live next to an airforce base near Moscow, they fly over our heads all the time and there are loads of them.
Must have been pretty excited to see an SR-71 since they put up their whole inventory.
@@dhyde9207 yeah, like, ah, how many years, ah, ago did this take place
This was made in DCS, Digital Combat Simulator. Look it up. Essentially what it sounds like. The lighting gives it away on the surfaces of jets, let alone the sky. This video was made for entertainment purposes.
SR-71: “Nice ta meetcha!”
*Hits afterburner*
I believe the SR-71 engine design is on afterburner during their normal cruise speed.
If a real video, this whole scene would have been over neutral territory, not over Soviet airspace.

The only one intimidated was the Russian Jets when the Blackbird hit the afterburners.
Did you notice that video is from a game, didnt you? SU-27 doesn´t have to be faster than SR-71. Its air-to-air missiles are.
And they still couldn’t reach..
its a game
There has only been one SR71 ever shot down........oh yeah, it was shot down by the Russians.
Beautiful, beautiful blackbird.
The SR-71 actually flies faster than a bullet fired from a M14 308 round, that is mind boggling
That is amazing that sr-71 can fly faster than a rifle round
As do the majority of jet fighters.
Faster than there rockets too !
@@steve5825
So what? The original poster was using that as a reference. Now add in the fact that the SR-71 was doing this back in 1966, and today SOME jet fighters may fly faster been a bullet but not all, and the ones that do, are still not as fast as the SR-71.
@@steve5825 no. The SR-71 was recorded going 2200 miles an hour. M4 308 round goes 2800/ft per second. That is less than 2000mph, but still really fast. (2800ft/second x 60 seconds x 60 minutes, equals 10080000, divide by 5280 "a mile" and its = 1909.0909096mph)
Most fighter jets however, cruise best at around 1000mph and in combat are around 1200-1500mph.
The Su-27 has a max speed of 1600mph. Its service ceiling is 62,000 feet. At altitude, it can go 1600. Sea level only about 1000mph.
The SR-71 has a max speed of 2200 mph, service ceiling of 85,000 feet and there is no differentiation in speed in the wiki between sea level or the 85,000 ft.
SR-71 is exceptional and to say that most are just as good is a joke.
The SR-71 was just playing with them!
A.I. just playing you 😊
Yeah right it's a simulation the USAF and the CIA are laughing 😂 do you know the mission of the SR - 71 ?
Hnt : Advoid detect take photos and go after burners !!!!!!
In this scenario the su27s had the blackbird by the balls. They could have shot it down pointblank and there's nothing the blackbird could have done about it.
Those 27's were piloted by NATO pilots. This video is probably directed at Russian intelligence, hinting at capabilities. "Catch me if you can!"
russian want their titanium back.
🤣🤣🤣
the cia paid good drug money to buy it
@@marcosflores-march7278 Yeah, right! You are well informed. The CIA set up dozens of shell companies, in order to buy the necessary ingots of titanium in order to make the skin et al for the SR-71. Well spotted!!
Is Russia where we get our titanium?
@@RonLo For the Blackbird, yes.
Crazy how that 1960’s airframe still looks advanced compared to today’s adversarial aircraft.
He said, "alright I'm done napping, time to play... where'd they go?"
I saw one land at Wright Patterson AFM in February of 1990. Left Beale AFB and was overhead in Dayton in 60 minutes. Did a couple high speed photo passes and a couple practice approaches before finally touching down. Not a very long runway. The orange chute was in the air and not quite inflated just before the tire smoke. I have the picture I took of it. One memory burned into my eyelids til I die.
Excelente!!!
While deployed on the Kitty Hawk in 87, an officer walked into Air Ops and informed us that an aircraft will be passing through the carrier's controlled airspace. (There is no top limit to an aircraft carrier's controlled airspace.) So, we air traffic controllers gathered around a radar scope and watched the aircraft primary target (no IFF, aka transponder code, no altitude encoder) and watched a primary target take seven sweeps to race from one side of the radar scope to the other side. We estimated the speed at around 2300 knots. Our F-14s were only capable of 1450 knots, about 300 knots faster than the F/A-18s.
Speed and/or altitude, too much for those Russian fighters!
In real life a missile would kill the SR-71 up close like that. But not at 85,000 feet at Mach 3.
You mean too much for those boiler plate and big rivet Russian fighters, they'd get no where near a Blackbird.
If the Russians use MiG 25 I don't know what will happen to the SR 71 it can reach up to mach 3 and can climb up to 80k feet
Retired Aircraft top speed still classified.
Wow! The graphics are so amazing! It looks so real!
SR-71: Yea im a just go now later
*Turns on afterburner*
good cinematic DCS movie 😂
This bad boy can fly at the edge of space! This is staggering 😲
And it was designed with a slide rule in the late 1950's.
It's footage from a game
No Russian aircraft ever got close to an SR-71, fact.
its a game called DCS
Once there was a real chance they could 1:12 have because one Blackberry Bird was having severe mechanical difficulties. But I think the technically neutral Swedes ran interference for us blocking the Russians.
Fun fact: when the sr-71 set its declassified world speed record of Mach 3.2 it did so on one engine after it suffered a flame out on the mile 4 timing gate. The pilots flew it on one engine through mile marker 5 and 6. it's capable of around mach 3.7
Sorry, but a SR-71 could fly a lot higher and faster than a SU-27! Interesting simulation, though.
SR71 goes to warp speed. See ya, Ivan!
Damn, DCS graphics are getting scary good!
what video game is this? the clouds are too blurry, the russian planes all turned in the same direction at the same exact time, and the sr71 let them see it, thats how I know this must be a video game
the game is DCS (digital combat simulator)
Just casually walks off with afterburners lol.
The SR-71,(Blackbird), was the greatest plane ever made! I recall this incident & the Russian fighter jets could
only fly at a top speed of 1,500 mph, while the SR 71 could fly at around 3,000 mph! Can you say "Bye, Bye"?
While this video is complete bullshit, the official top speed of the SR-71 was 2,193 mph, and the fastest it ever unofficially flew was around 2,500 mph for a few seconds.
What video game do you recall this incident from?🤡🤣🤡
SR-71 isn't flying now.
Don't make it come out of retirement..💪🙊
No it isn't. Something much, much faster is flying now.
@@dhyde9207 And its replacement is probably already flying now too

Did you know, that 71% of USA´s F-35 are not combat capable just because they are almost permanently broken? (And that is in peace time, in war time I bet they would be broken all ). Did you know that Abrams tanks need 8 hours of maintenance for every one hour of combat use ? (Ukrainiens found out soon, that it is junk)
Last year we could see the "quality" of USA´s weapons in counterofensive in Ukraine. The only things which are remarkable about those guns are the PRICE and the SPEED in which these are being wiped out... Russian weapons are superior at all levels. The mere fact that the Russians have managed to bring several hypersonic missiles into use (!) within a few years and the Americans, in contrast, have not been able to do so for 10 years, shows the enormous difference. USA only has the most expensive military in the world, while Russia has the strongest army in the world and the most experienced army in the world.. About Ukraine war I say it like this: Who wants to be helping to a country(Ukraine) which kept killing civilians(russian language speakers) since 2014 ? It would be the same if someone would start helping to a man who attacked another man...., because Russia is helping to civilians in Donbas since those civilians were killed by thousands since 2014) It is like someone would start helping to a person who started with killing people....... About Ukraine war I say it like this: Would USA like Russia´s army in Mexico or Cuba? If your answer was NO while you do not mind NATO(it means USA´s army) near Russia, than something is very wrong with your reasoning, period.
tbf I'm not in the Russian side but saying this is utterly wrong. Less than 10% of the russian Air Force has been damaged by this conflict and they're still receiving new batches of su35s every 2 months
Bye Bye!!!..👋🏼
Yeah. Right. The Air Force permanently retired SR-71 in 1998
They knew better than to try and catch up with a SR-71
its a game called DCS
SR-71 made famous for requesting a speed check from an air control tower. All because a Navy Pilot wanted to brag about how fast he was going
Another story I've heard:
Blackbird pilot: "Request flight level 600."
Rookie Air Traffic Controller: Buddy, if you think you can get up there, go for it. Nobody's up there "
Blackbird pilot: "Descending flight level 600."
Bad ASS!
Pilot: Hold my beer I switch into 2nd gear 😁
The thing is the SR-71 was still in international airspace but was getting close to Russia. If not the SU-27 would of flamed it and brought it down! That is called intimidation that it turned around and ran!
DCS simulator is pretty cool.
Can’t touch this 👍🇺🇸
The SR is the most beautiful plane ever designed. Totally majestic!
Nah, they had cameras to take pictures, because they are witnessing the greatest engineered aircraft humanity has ever created.
They were fellow aviators smiling like little kids in a candy shop. I surmise their faces hurt from smiling so much.
Respect & admiration is a universal mannerism in humanity, when it's unabashedly due!
There NO WAY a Russian plane could get the close to the SR-71 except if they were all parked for an air show! The orcs have been trying to get close to the SR-71 since 1964.... Yeah not gonna happen lol 😂

SR-71, most beautiful flying machine ever.
Something similar occurred in 1987 when a SR-71 on a routine recon mission over the Baltic Sea lost an
engine. The E Germans scrambled a pair of MiG-25’s to intercept but 4 JA-37 Viggens came to the rescue and escorted the crippled plane out of its air space. This wasn’t made public until 2017.
I hope everyone knows that is AI. Those jets would not be within hundreds of miles of an SR 71.
What a beautiful beast.
That scenario never happened because the SR-71 flew too high and too fast for all airplanes. Also to intercept an SR-71 it had to be head on and meet it. The russians tried with the MIG-25 but could not synchronize a merge head on and from the rear it was impossible to gain on a SR-71. Later the russians used the MIG 31 with long range AAMs to get at head on merge with the SR-71. However the SR-71 flew very much higher than the MIG-31 and the merge was for a very short time. With the long range missiles the MIG-31 possibly could have shot down the SR-71 but the SR-71 always flew outside of russian territory so a shoot down would have created an international incident.
Not a chance in hell these jets could catch the blackbird
Up up and away !!!😂👍
Faster recording of flight in a plane ever
U.S. has not used SR-71 since 1999.
Are we even flying the SR anymore? Has it not been decommissioned? Satellites do it all now.
Evidently these Russian pilots have no idea who they are dealing with..
1. At many points you can see that it's a game.
2. An SR71 is not a B52. An SR71 would never let a Russian fighter jet get that close.
No matter we all know the ceiling and the speed of sr 71 they would never get close.
It's funny how easily he pulls away from the 3 of them at less than half throttle.
Faster than a bullet out of a high powered rifle at full throttle...
The truth about the sr 71 it flew faster than any sam missle
When games look better than real footage.
The SR -71 is a legend! Hard to believe it was engineered in the late 50s and built in the 60s and 60 years later it is still the fastest jet that we know of! It is astonishing, however, if this was achieved at that time, what does the government have now that exceeds that and we don't know about it? We pay way too much in taxes!!
That’s Star Wars stuff right there.
Those Ruskie jets were built to intercept the Blackbird, until it pushed the throttle a little bit farther.
Even if this was real, it’s the equivalent of 3 guys coming up and walking next to a big guy. And the big guy crossing the street.
The SR-71 flew its missions at an altitude of approx. 24000m at Mach 3.0, clearly outside the flight parameters of a Su27...
SR-71 flies at M3. Air to Air missles fly at M7. Altitude was the SR-71's friend.
The Finish Air Force were the closet as the Black Bird blew out 1 engine.
Definitely DCS NO WAY THEY WOULD EVEN BE ABLE TO GET THAT CLOSE!
The pilot was just waiting for permission to take the blackbird into low earth orbit.
This is CG, those two types of jets were not in the air at the same time. One was retired before the other was even built.
The good old games in the sky. No war.
The SR pilot was screwing with 'em. He can fly literal circles around them, and then 'poof' gone in 20 seconds.

I used to live near Beale AFB. Seeing them and U2s doing their thing is magnificent.
You want to race? Wait until the light turns. There it goes.
Until you stand next to an SR-71 you have no idea what a BEAST that aircraft is. It is huge, Huge, HUGE! And the engines could swallow you like a raisin. All for one purpose: speed at altitude. Incredible machine.
