Once upon a time long time ago I remember singing that song along with my Cousin Dianah when we rode horses. We would ride sling country road through paths through woods having the time of our lives. Those were happy uncomplicated times.
Oh for an opportunity to go on a trail ride and sing along.

This was one of my favorite Starfall Historical American Folk Songs when I was younger, as well as one of my favorite activities.

Living in London , I don't get much chance to herd cattle, but I love the song also! More's the pity Marty never actually recorded the song.

A doggie is an orphaned calf. That's why in the chorus of the song you hear, " it's your misfortune and none of my own."

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info, stevejaye. Now, I can understand the plots of the old "Rawhide" TV show. lol

It's actually Marty's song 'Saddle Tramp' with words revised for his 'Drifter' television series.

Domo old cowboy from Far east from an old cowboy from London! I wish he had sung the whole of the song.
