Once upon a time long time ago I remember singing that song along with my Cousin Dianah when we rode horses. We would ride sling country road through paths through woods having the time of our lives. Those were happy uncomplicated times. Oh for an opportunity to go on a trail ride and sing along.
Great song...The Sons of the Pioneers, have another fine recording of this song..especially the solo by Bob Nolan...I have not been able to find it on UA-cam...
I have always loved this song and hearing Marty Robbins sing it makes it even better. Thank you for this great upload.

A doggie is an orphaned calf. That's why in the chorus of the song you hear, " it's your misfortune and none of my own."
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info, stevejaye. Now, I can understand the plots of the old "Rawhide" TV show. lol
It's do-gie, not doggie.
