I decided to record a tutorial for Against the Storm and it got a bit long... Edit: Check out the playlist with more Against the Storm runs / videos! ua-cam.com/play/PLHQyGGzRHYIa8sx5jch3mBQBMecoCgmU1.html
Some heads up: - you can see how well the orders are going by observing the highlights on the right - you can pick which ones are displayed on the orders screen - use ALT, CTRL, and B overlays for a quick (interactive) summary of workers, goods, and resources (and later Z for blightrot which is a whole new mechanic) - with worker overlay you can choose which species to allocate with mouse wheel - use checkboxes on woodcutters ('only chop marked trees', and 'avoid opening up a glade') for more control - Marb already showed that you can rollover a good wherever and it'll show how much of it you have in the reserves - you can rollover the top-left icon in the cornerstone screen to remind yourself of the local resources and modifiers - you should be able to see this at all times in the game menu - each harvestable resource also produces secondary items (with a drop chance), you can manage these to an extent to maintain variety in the early game - hostility can be balanced for a long time by a) removing woodchoppers, b) sacrificing fuel, c) making more hearths - there is plenty of room for nice decorations, you don't have to do it like Marb, nor you have to do optimal tile utilization in this game, only to an extent - observe your peeps from time to time, they a) work, b) store goods in their camp, c) carry goods to store if it's full, d) take a break - when they take a break they gather around the hearth, consume food, clothes etc. and waste some time - some "civic" buildings (i.e. not camps) don't have a typical local storage; these are like "factories" and not like "mines"; you want these next or close to a store - you can remove input ingredients from any "factory" in the 2nd tab; this will free the resources back to the general store - you can force emptying of a local storage (useful for "mines") - you can later build more hearths and expand your hubs which is crazy important to diminish walking times; all stores are magically connected like in Anno
I made a slight error above: - *all* buildings have a local storage, except dwelling houses: sometimes it's apparent, sometimes it's a different tab - make sure you check these from time to time, because even a temporary recipe will allocate some input goods that you might want elsewhere And some more tips: - when buying/selling stuff, two values are shown: value per item and value for the whole stack (in the parentheses) - the other value is incredibly important to quickly understand what's a good deal in Trading Routes, compare that to how much Amber you actually get - pressing Shift over a building (with nothing currently selected) will clone that building; mouse rolling over the building icons shows how many are built - moving buildings: camps, simple production buildings, and decorations can be moved for free, dwelling buildings cost 5 wood to move, others can't be moved - trying to move a camp will highlight all compatible target resources; you can also use B to see all resources as icons - all building costs are reimbursed on demolish (important for buildings which consume Parts); Blightrot will prevent demolishing - don't exterminate your Blightrot infestation completely because it gives benefits to production and walking speed to that building's workers - clicking on the product icon in any building leads to recipe screen centered around that product (useful to quickly find out if you can do it differently) - clicking RMB on the icon in the Trading Post screen will move the whole stack - Drizzle and Clearance are longer than the Storm season, I always forget the exact durations, but storm is around 1'30, while the other two last more than 3'00 - sometimes with glade events it's better to wait for the storm to pass, yet you want to know how much time remains afterward - use roads to make the space around the initial Hearth slightly wider, this allows you to position your decorations much more cleanly afterwards - make sure to always regulate the amount of woodcutters in the Storm season, and make sure to sacrifice fuel and optionally favor a specie to maximize the Resolve - maximizing Resolve as quickly as possible is a sure way to win any Veteran scenario; after the early game, orders should be viewed as a bonus challenge
I think the city builder tag is misleading as you don't actually get to plan, develop or watch a city grow like the sandbox of Cities Skylines or Simcity. Here in Against the Storm you are constantly moving building assets around in order to obtain resources, fulfull randomly chosen directives/orders to ultimately stay alive and win each run. The elements combined make for a unique gameplay experience but certainly isn't typical city building.
I saw you live streaming this game a while ago. I ended up getting it through the Epic Game store because I couldn't wait for the Steam release. I have put a ton of hours into it already. This game does so many things right. Plus, the setting is freaking fascinating. I want them to make an RPG spinoff just so I can explore the world even more.
Thanks for taking the time to do commentary, it really helps to understand the logical decisions. I got to the point where I unlocked trade routes. I was wondering if you could do another playthrough with commentary, but for intermediate players who have trade routes unlocked, as well as perhaps other key advanced unlocks. I'm actually not sure how I should be interacting with the trade routes but I've heard that the routes are key to your economy. Thanks!
Awesome marbz, I been waiting for this game to came in steam for a long time, nice to see u having a good opinion of it that is a relief because I value high ur games opinions
Nice video. I saw this game on Steam before it went Epic exclusive and hoped that the extra-long beta test would leave it in a good state. Looks like fun.
Been playing this game since it came out on Epic. Everything about this game was well thought out and executed. Every update since early access has made the game markedly better.
one thing how do you cancel a building i probably would have figured it out by the time someone comments but hey maybe someone needs some help figuring it out too
I got this game a while ago through epic. I would love to see a series of this game as you progress through prestige difficulties. Would love to see you reacting to how different you start playing to manage those modifiers.

@Marbozir Any chance of seeing more of this game?
It's a bit of a learning curve ... on par with Paradox 4X games with 20 DLCs🤪

Thanks for creating such a guide! We're sure it will be useful for many players ^^
3+ hours well spent thank you for an amazing 'tutorial' to this game marbs :D
Some heads up:
- you can see how well the orders are going by observing the highlights on the right
- you can pick which ones are displayed on the orders screen
- use ALT, CTRL, and B overlays for a quick (interactive) summary of workers, goods, and resources (and later Z for blightrot which is a whole new mechanic)
- with worker overlay you can choose which species to allocate with mouse wheel
- use checkboxes on woodcutters ('only chop marked trees', and 'avoid opening up a glade') for more control
- Marb already showed that you can rollover a good wherever and it'll show how much of it you have in the reserves
- you can rollover the top-left icon in the cornerstone screen to remind yourself of the local resources and modifiers
- you should be able to see this at all times in the game menu
- each harvestable resource also produces secondary items (with a drop chance), you can manage these to an extent to maintain variety in the early game
- hostility can be balanced for a long time by a) removing woodchoppers, b) sacrificing fuel, c) making more hearths
- there is plenty of room for nice decorations, you don't have to do it like Marb, nor you have to do optimal tile utilization in this game, only to an extent
- observe your peeps from time to time, they a) work, b) store goods in their camp, c) carry goods to store if it's full, d) take a break
- when they take a break they gather around the hearth, consume food, clothes etc. and waste some time
- some "civic" buildings (i.e. not camps) don't have a typical local storage; these are like "factories" and not like "mines"; you want these next or close to a store

And some more tips:
- when buying/selling stuff, two values are shown: value per item and value for the whole stack (in the parentheses)
- the other value is incredibly important to quickly understand what's a good deal in Trading Routes, compare that to how much Amber you actually get
- pressing Shift over a building (with nothing currently selected) will clone that building; mouse rolling over the building icons shows how many are built
- moving buildings: camps, simple production buildings, and decorations can be moved for free, dwelling buildings cost 5 wood to move, others can't be moved
- trying to move a camp will highlight all compatible target resources; you can also use B to see all resources as icons
- all building costs are reimbursed on demolish (important for buildings which consume Parts); Blightrot will prevent demolishing
- don't exterminate your Blightrot infestation completely because it gives benefits to production and walking speed to that building's workers
- clicking on the product icon in any building leads to recipe screen centered around that product (useful to quickly find out if you can do it differently)
- clicking RMB on the icon in the Trading Post screen will move the whole stack
- Drizzle and Clearance are longer than the Storm season, I always forget the exact durations, but storm is around 1'30, while the other two last more than 3'00

im going to get this game for sure, because when a veteran of gaming tells you this is the best in the last decade for this genre you believe em!

The background theme is a mix of sinister and calm. Bit too soft to hear but sounds pretty good to me.
Best guide, just og tinto the game, I love Impression games and roguelikes so yea perfect fit
nice video, please use the word upgrade more it sounds very funny
Is this by the same guys who did Frostpunk? Some aspects seem very similar, but then again they will be in most games of this type.
nice guide
Someone is clearly excited about this game 😜
Looks fun.
one thing how do you cancel a building i probably would have figured it out by the time someone comments but hey maybe someone needs some help figuring it out too
