straight answers.....no cockiness or arrogance.....great attitude....nice man...such a loss RIP
I saw Johnny in 75 and again in 2007. In response to the poster who stated John was not very talkative.....Johnny is lucky to be alive. He's had several strokes over the past 8-10 years and he has fought back gallantly....playing with the dexterity of a 25 year old. He's an amazing man and artist. Annnd, has never gotten his due or the respect he has so dearly earned. He is a master blues man. Dang right....Long Live Johnny!!! RD
The Fillmore East. My late older brother played The Fillmore East when he was a guitarist in The Buddy Miles Band, I saw him there, 1970, while he was opening for The Guess Who. Then later that year, my brother found himself at the 'jam' session after the funeral service for Jimi Hendrix, playing "Rock N Roll Hootchie Koo" with Johnny Winter!?
I saw Johnny in Stanhope NJ at the stanhope house he was wonderful, I got to sit down with him after the show on his bus/camper. He was kind friendly and has a great sense of humor.
He still has it !!! I am a performer also and sometimes you don't have your best nights. His band are all pro's and nice people. God Bless you Jw you are a great person first !
When Johnny and Rick played Atlanta in the 70s, it was a game and life changing experience. Blues and rock heaven.
Saw Johnny at Electric Ballroom in Atlanta, early70s, still have a drumstick from that show.
@@mikefannon6994 You were present, in a small window of wonderful times. Richards, Funocios, Hotlanta, the Ballroom, Underground was fading.
The Fox
Thanks for the music Johnny and RIP
I've met Johnny, Edgar & Rick. They are true Gentleman and Scholars

Thanks Johnny for all your music!
the Great Johnny Winter...seen him a few times, the best was at the Filmore East 71 with Rick Derringer, I forgot who opened up first The Allman Bros classic live recording then he and Elvin Bishop followed forgot in what order, had 4th row, middle seat cost then abt 4 bucks the most...lost the program which sucks...glad Johnny got straight from Junk...High Way 51 he kills it with slide....love Johnny with Muddy also
He's my HERO - seen him live, and his really great live!
thanks for your message. this is good news! cheers
One of the Blues God.... my Idol....
wow! wow! wow! wonderful! And Live Forever!
I'd read that when they were together as a band (AND), that there was creative rivalry between Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer. They bring out the best in each other - but Johnny doesn't like to be pushed, and Rick would push him to play better.
Which is probably why he kept Rick as his Producer and Studio Musician for his most commercially successful records.
I thought that Johnny Winter's Band that consisted of Floyd Radford, Randy Jo Hobbs and Richard Hughes was his best Band. They were a great Rock & Blues Rock Band.
Much Respect
Nice work! JW's not real talkative but you made a conversation out of it. Good stuff.
I read that Steve Paul tried to set up Rick Derringer with Iggy Pop to start a band, but it never came together!
I saw Johnny in a concert tonight. He's a genuine legend... but he should stop playing now. We left the concert after 10 minutes. It was the worst thing I ever heard...I'm sorry for him.
That's ridiculous to leave a concert after 10 minutes as a drummer it usually takes me about 15 minutes to get warmed up. You should have stayed it probably would have got a lot better after he acclimated to the room! Also foolish not to have got his autograph afterwards, I have five hanging on the wall. You short haired guys really amaze me. Howdy from Dallas Texas where Winter has been appreciated since 1969
@tommy1gtr Johnny Winter's first manager Steve Paul (ten second Google search)
Lighting fast. Guitarist
its hwy 61..
0:50 who is steve? who is here referring to?
tommy1gtr Steve Paul was the man in NY back then. the Scene. that was the spot Hendrix Beck Winter....
Edgar is a much better interview. He keeps talking and talking.
@tommy1gtr No problem. Don't thank me, thank Google. I'll accept the insult, though.
