Jess :" I could live here"
Scott: Frantically checks that Gaston's tool truck comes there....
...or that he can visit Gaston...?
I'm sure if Gastron wasn't going to the Southern Island he'll go now. What's he going to do without his best customer?
@@kenzokan167 based on my courier pickups Gaston lives in the South Island already
Yup, that's what i was getting at - i think piranha tools are Nelson based, and I have also thought "i could live here" in Nelson... 😀
I will live a lot closer to Gaston than I do now 😎
How sad that people that can literally build houses can't afford to purchase one in the city they live in. What a society we've built for ourselves.
That s totally sad
Don’t look back Scott… You are going to be successful no matter where you are! You might be shocked at how much less stressful it is to live out in the country. I live in a rural part of North Carolina and really enjoy having room to breath (and bike and ski).
🤩 wow small world my two favourite youtubers watch each others videos
Could you imagine a collaboration 😍🤤🤤
Great to see you guys supporting each other. It's a small world nowadays.
BECCAAA
That's awesome man. We will be closer to the mountains too, looking forward to it 🙂
2 of my favourite canels
Congratulations!!!! I hope it's better than you ever expected!!!
Oh, all my fav home reno UA-camrs in one place!
II hope the move goes without any hiccups. Jess looks a natural in front of the camera.
Wow, 2 legends, thank you both.
Hello from Vancouver Island.
Stoked to see you support Scott. I've learnt plastering from your tutorials. Appreciated.
Don’t worry about the move, we moved from Sydney to Shearwater in Tasmania. Best thing we ever did.
What do you like about tassie? I'm in sydney and would love to explore the idea of living in Tas. What is different about Tas that drew you there
Unfortunately that’s what this whole pandemic feels like- transfer of wealth from the poor to the wealthy. Small businesses are closing and big corporations are getting bigger.
Don't forget all of history the same trend happened. It's a continuation.
Apologies for a cut throat comment, especially if your were one of the many businesses struggling (small businesses) or already gone.
26000 businesses & counting have shutdown since last year
Gotta love big government. Always killing it's citizens. Agenda 2030
House prices in the UK gone crazy aswel, they have risen by 40%
Are you taking Paerau with you?
Brave decision and hopefully you will make new friends there soon! Here in the Netherlands the prices are ridiculous throughout the whole country (not that big) and honestly a lot of bad houses that need a lot of money pumped into them. I know live in a (self build) campervan and do carpentry throughout the whole country (again not that big) and I also do miss a workshop some times. Best of luck on your new adventure!
Houses in The Netherlands are still far better quality then the ones in New Zealand or Australia
Good luck to you guys. I've literally just caught up on all your videos. Come back to Edinburgh and enjoy the lovely winter weather. Ill send you a picture of your old portobello flat to tease you, I'm 15 mins from it
Very exciting! My family and I made the move to the South Island earlier this year. It was hard at first finding carpentry work and not having many friends but after six months we are getting there. You will have no problem with your platform. Can’t wait to see where you end up. Cheers
whereabouts are you mate. I'm in the same boat.
Scott - I never comment on UA-cam but I need to on this one. Good on you and Jess, If you like the place you're going to you will never look back. I used to be an 'Aucklander" and have absolutely loved Christchurch ( More so than Auckland by a factor of 10). Buy a place in the South Island and use your skills to increase the value in your own bank account, not someone else's as you have been doing. I have followed and learnt from your videos over the years and you deserve some good karma and good luck with property as you are so invested in it with your day job. If you ever need a place to stay here or want a cold beer then sing out as you are welcome here - and thanks for your shared knowledge that you so freely give, not many are as generous and it is very much appreciated. Cheers.
I lived in Auckland for 4 years and- moved to rural town (Paeroa) in Waikato about 7 months ago. Totally love it, ppl are so friendly and the views of Waikato ranges are breathtaking from my window. I miss Auckland for a few reasons and still visit once every week. It's only 1.5 hrs drive from where I live. You made a good decision, Auckland housing market is insane.
Same deal here - I lived in Auckland all my life, moved to Thames in January this year. Plenty of building work in the region, in fact I'll be in Paeroa this week working on a bathroom renovation (which will include mandatory lunches at Refinery cafe).
jess and scott, i usually don´t say much here, but the best of luck for you two. hang on to your dreams. take care. peter
Thanks Peter!
I moved 3.5 years ago from Auckland to the top of the South and it has been the best move. Life is just so much better here. Hope you love it as much as I do.
When a city becomes so expensive that tradesmen, policemen, firemen, and other working-class people can no longer afford to live there then everyone pays the price and everyone loses something.
I'm from Scotland 🏴 hope you enjoyed your stay here ❤️
You two inspire us. Every time you post. Thank you for that. On to better places and greater things!
Thank you guys!
Good luck to the both of you. May you continue to find success wherever you are.
You’re taking Paerau with you, right?
Looking forward to the new venture and more exciting episodes
Now I understand why there’s so many Kiwis moving to Queensland, Australia. We’ve got a similar problem with a huge increase in demand for housing, which has forced property prices sky high (and rising). We’ve got a rental crisis now as well. Families living in cars and tents because they can’t find an affordable place to live. Think rental availability is around 1% ? Government has no answer of course.
Ah, wouldn’t it be amazing if certain governments could do more than collect taxes from the 99% while creating loopholes for the 1%? It is to dream…
Good Luck on the further journey! I’m curious to see how it’ll look like when you’re working outside Auckland. Hope there will be a farewell Episode with Paerau & Kameron - you kinda had one wirh Richard, it’s a pity not to have one with the other two.
Unfortunately with lockdown we weren't able to do much. We are still in the same country though. I will be living 10 minutes from an airport too 🙂 We will catch up, I'm sure.
That's awesome news! And you two are just adorable :) Have a good trip and stay safe!
Sorry you have to leave Auckland! Man same thing is happening all over! I live in Oregon in the US and man housing is gone crazy the last few years. Take care and hope your new place amazing. Best of luck wherever you land. Gonna miss seeing you work with the rest of the guys though.
As viewers, if we watch enough of your episodes will practically feel we know you. Your channel has a warm, charming presence that settles me down to a better state. If I had high blood pressure, I'm pretty sure it would drop. I wish you two the grandest of adventures, and a rich life in a more economically viable region. And yeah, we'll all miss seeing your chummy, good-spirited crew, with the friendly ribbing, allowing us all to step into the world of a workplace brotherhood. Your channel is so much more than carpentry. I am confident you won't lose a single subscriber, but know that we, too, will miss those guys, and sending good thoughts to you and Jess, and to your gang of brothers. BTW, I've never framed a room (or hanged a door), but you're that good.
my super GP dr. told me whenever you are dealing with an allergy you should also avoid strawberry, chocolat, peanuts, shellfish, eggs, tomatoes ;), why? it's adding the need for your body to release histamines ;) us portuguese and brasilians also avoid pork when healing (from a cut ex.) ;) Xx
My wife and I moved away from the hustle and bustle and skyrocketing real estate prices 11 years ago for the small seaside town life in Alaska. Best thing we ever did. Best of luck to you and Jess! Here’s hoping you two find the same joy from simplicity we did. Now over to Patreon to help with your move. All the best from Alaska!
Good luck with your move. Wherever you go will be a better place for it.
Me and the wife also said "we could live here" at almost every stop we made when we drove through New Zealand from Auckland to Queenstown. Beautiful country! Hoping for the best for you both Scott!
Granted I said the same, looked really closely at emigrating a few times…too bad about the housing prices, such a beautiful place.
Good luck Scott! Looking forward to more great videos.
Now, that comes as a surprise. I would have guessed you might move a few 10km out from Auckland - but then straight to the South Island! All the best and good luck with your relocation! I really hope that works out
Always go with your gut... Good luck mate
No more Padeu?
Good on you mate. If you go South, visit sunny Nelson, I went to school there many years ago, I think you'll both love it. Looking forward to your new adventures, Bless.
I’m guessing either Christchurch or Dunedin. Personally, I’d go Dunedin on account of all the earthquakes Christchurch gets hit with. Cheers from the USA and good luck with your move. We all hope it works out well for you two and can’t wait to see what lies next!
Nelson. Dunedin is depressing in winter.
I hear that Chch always needs builders BECAUSE of those earthquakes though….
@@MugYoda Sure that was true after the big ones but a heck of a lot of builders have moved elsewhere now. Mostly it seems down to Queenstown lakes. Honestly seems like there is a new building company every week here haha
@@MugYoda The earthquake boom is pretty much over now but there is a huge amount of housing development north and south of Christchurch and there isn't a enough builders. All of our imported labour went home. Also plenty of old villas around for Scott to get stuck into so I hope it is Christchurch. Dunedin is a ghost town with worse weather and the house prices aren't much better than Christchurch
My gut said Christchurch- as it would be the closest match to a metro type lifestyle. It has a strong housing boom, but it’s mostly new builds and subdivision stuff. There is a bit of rework to repair existing stock (to fix shitty earthquake repair), but probably doesn’t have the same market for the kind of work Scott has been doing in Auk. So many of the older homes are getting demo’ed to make way for 3 and 4 unit townhomes on a single parcel. I would think queenstown/Wanaka would be a good fit…
Love your videos. Safe Travels, Smooth Move, We head down to south Island from Whangarei in two weeks. New Start. looking forward to it big time.
Scoot & Jess. Incredible! You are Both so inspiring and 'together'. Here in UK property prices are rocketing. Crazy. And as for our Government [so-called!] don't get me started on that lot! NZ is such an amazing country, be it North or indeed South. Where ever you both go i am sure it will work out brilliantly for you both. Wish you every happiness and success together in your future in NZ South Island. And, of course, looking forward to the brilliant content to come. You certainly helped many of us 'Brits' get through our Lockdown and indeed even now with all the uncertainties and our winter yet to come. Thank You Both. Safe safe and well.
Welcome to the South brother, moved here from Nth Auckland 40 years ago and have never regretted it
Will miss seeing Parau, and the rest of you other mates working together☹️ I assume your going to be to far away for them to work with you.
Parau - legend.
He's moving to Queenstown, calling it!
Careful Scott, I can see Jess taking over your channel, she had me in stitches when trying to get you to admit that she was right. It was nice to see you two laughing together.
Those Auckland prices are UNREAL! Thats like 2-3X the cost of a house here in Texas for 1 of the bedrooms.
Excited to see what's next for you guys and for the channel
you are correct sir... I used to live in north shore, auckland suburb, and the landlord subdivided the land.. 800 sqm with a house, split into 2. So the land in front of the house I lived sold for 800K nzd (about 550K USD). 400 sqm, in the bottom of a valley, you would see the sun at 11 am in winter, and rain didn't drain properly... and on top of that, you have to put the house, about 500K nzd... for a 3 bdr... so yeah, Auckland is unreal and it's not stopping :S
Scott, I completely understand your position. When I bought my first house in '84 it was 1.5x my salary. My current 4 bedroom house is 10x my yearly salary. Thanks for all of the videos on your wonderful work
Good luck, looking forward to where you move to.
All the best! It’s totally Dunedin. Scotland -> Dunedin
Hey Scott and Jess, really enjoy watching your show, it’s educative and therapeutic, it’s like we are living together, lol. What will happen to Paerau? Gaston? Kameron from Systematic…? I forget the other guy’s name with that black American car and Milwaukee power tools? Don’t worry we will follow you!! I hope we will see all your friends we were so use to seeing!! Good luck you two!
Yeah i wonder what will happen with them too. The guy with the pickup is Richard. Really loved seeing these fellas work and laugh together!
@@WestSideConnection5 TOTALLY AGREE!!
Make them all move with you Scott 😂
@@Cameron2874 Agree 100%!!
Yes this parts a bit sad…..
Congrats Scott on 300k been here since you were around 5k subs. Guess I wont be seeing you drive around anymore! All the best with the move.
I live on an island in Scotland and since the start of the lockdowns the price of a 10 acres of land in 2 areas have gone from worth £10k to £15k and is now on the market at £1 million. But we are waiting for the government to step in as it's a croft and crofts are supposed to be affordable for locals as they are ment as plots of land where you can work animals and grow produce to sell/eat
Canada is the second worst for housing right behind New Zealand, over 20% of housing owned is from foreign investors. People are buying and selling condos like they do stocks. The government just fucks off doing very little cause its bringing in money to the country, problem is, it hurts the people that live here.
@@boratb258 exactly the same here in the netherlands.
Same in Australia Chinese and Hong Kong residents buying everything driving prices up crazy stay safe
Good luck both of you
You guys gonna love living in the South, enjoying the snow and getting heaps of work. Keep it up
I kept waiting for you all to say, “we’re coming to America!” Anyway congrats on the impending move, love your content and good luck!
I think he & Jess are too smart to move to our hot mess sandwich, the USA.
America wtf thats the worst place to go to
I was actually half expecting him to say Antarctica...
We're looking at Chch, outskirts, good value new houses with lots of land for the kids and plenty listings have nice big sheds for the toys.
I had the pleasure of visiting New Zealand a couple of times and loved every trip. People were great and the whole vibe in the country was outstanding. However, I have to agree with you, or should I say Jess, that Auckland is big city-ish. Christchurch, Dunedin, and Nelson in the South Island were the most enjoyable parts of my trip. Christchurch I believe is the place used for all the pastoral pictures one sees. Ditto for Nelson.
All the best in your new location and looking forward to seeing more Scott Brown Carpentry. And, you might want to listen to Jess more frequently.......
Good luck to you both. This is the way.
Good luck for the new city and you two looks so happy together 🥰 can't wait for new updates 💪😎
South Island baby! You know it makes sense! Welcome 🤗.
Central Otago rocks! Although the property prices may still disappoint you.
Scott... Jess is a keeper
Good luck with all your changes. I haven't been to the South island but my wife has relatives there and on North Island as well. One day I would like to visit. I love NZ. Living in a city whatever city isn't for me being a country boy. Where I live now surrounded by more cows than people and I prefer that. As a Builder myself it is often harder to get a start in an area with less people but you are good at what you do and once you get a foot in the door no problem.
My guess is Christchurch, slightly more affordable housing (although getting less affordable quickly) and still has a bit of that city vibe that you're used to! Wherever you go, you guys will smash it and I'm looking forward to tagging along with you!
Not to mention it had highlighter on it just like Auckland did.
🤢
Christchurch is a shit place to live ! Super windy in the summer and hot , cold in the winter , weirdo’s everywhere shit beach the list goes on . Sorry scott
Come to Wairoa in the Hawke's Bay! There would be plenty of work for you, no doubt. And the town is going through a promising transformation. Not to mention that houses are way more affordable then anywhere else, but who knows for how long.
Great adventure. Looking forward to seeing new sights and content.
Come to Adelaide bro!! Australia loves your work
Isn't it all 1984 lockdown?
Mate. I feel for ya. It's incredibly sad that it's so difficult for hard working, decent people like yourselves to just buy a house and have a good life in NZ. Best of luck to both of you, i would love to support you where i can.
People keep voting in governments that do the same thing over and over again. People do not seem interested in the things that actually impact their life and are more interested in nonsense.
I have no idea how people seem to think a highly regulated welfare state was not going to create these issues. Governments struggle to fix potholes in roads yet people seem to keep wanting to give them more and more taxes and control in their lives.
Moving can be scary! But you may enjoy it!
Congrats Scott and Jess. We bought in Hamilton 8 years ago right before prices went crazy, but have seen awesome pricing in the South Island, as we want more land for gardens etc. Looking forward to your move and projects bro.
Bold move !!! Best of lucks you guys are good people therefore you will be ok !!! Saludos 🇪🇨
I spent just 5 short weeks travelling around NZ in 2011. 10 years on I still won't shut up about it, if it wasn't so far from Ireland I'd be there every year and would live there over anywhere else in the world. As soon as I stepped off the plane I felt a warmth from anyone I came across, it felt like Ireland's southern hemisphere big brother. The South Island is absolutely breath taking and you couldn't be moving to a better place. There is a housing crisis here in Ireland where prices are through the roof as well but I can't believe the cost of that shoe box apartment, you're definitely doing the right thing. Absolutely love the channel, and so does my 3 year old boy...All the best down south and look forward to see what projects you get into down there!
I spent some time in NZ in 2006 and Ireland in 2019. I think I would enjoy living in either but Ireland definitely has the edge.
My Irish gf moved down here to the South island for a 6month trip 4 years ago haha. Although she misses home, she certainly doesn't miss those endless grey days!
I had to go use that true size of website and check the size of New Zealand, and you are right, it is way bigger than I thought.
Good luck with the new location Scott, i will miss seeing my home town and Parau. And am a little sad that good productive people are unable to afford to live in a major centre like Auckland.
My parents lived in Marlborough sounds for the last two decades of their lives, I'm familiar with it.
all the best both of you god bless you both
I lived in Auckland until the start of this year where I moved to a small town. It was getting insane! Traffic getting worse with every month, prices soaring, rent crippling, almost cheaper to run your car on gold. Couldn't be happier with that choice. It's amazing to not hear that buzz of activity 24/7. You don't really realise its there until you leave. Congrats on the move!!
All the best to you 2 !! You will have a exciting new life in the south ! 😊😊 looking forward for your next episode of life ! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
All the best for your big adventure ,take care mate, regards Keith Victoria Australia
I truly wish you both the best😊
can’t believe this channel has grown so much, i mean i can believe it but wow, what an accomplishment, what a journey
I moved to Christchurch a couple of months ago and the costs of living are way lower and the work in abundant. You'll love it down here come home to the mainland
This is super exciting for you (and us). All the best with the next step in your life
wish you the best!!! We are in the same situation in Berlin, Germany plus the amazing german weather :)
Oooh, I hope it’s Christchurch! I love it there! Or Dunedin is great too, chilly though!
The south island is gorgeous. All the best mate
We are Scottish and moved to New Plymouth for a while and loved it. Had to move home for family reasons but would happily return. Cwas always amazed at how many Kiwis had travelled around the world but not South Island.
Wish you both all the best and success from asubscriber to your channel for over 2 years
Congrats on 300K! All the best with the move - looking forward to seeing more from your new place. :-)
Classic, I’ve been back a year in Auckland. House prices and traffic have convinced me to leave as well. Good luck with it
Amazing videos man! Thanks for using my music! :) Cheers!
Cheers man!
This is classic lockdown mood, time to talk/consider/plan and enjoy spending time together!
I really enjoy your videos, even when you are not building stuff. Good luck on the move. Looking forward to see into your new life.
Onward with your adventure! Lots of people moving house during this crazy time.
Best of luck to you both! Can’t wait to see what happens next in this channel. Best carpentry UA-cam channel for sure ! Cheers
Best of luck to you both.
Good luck mr brown .
Massive congratulations to yourself and jess cant wait to see the process
Congrats on 300k!
Yet another example of creative people having to move from the big urban centres. My wife and I run a creative business from a regional centre and reach all around Australia - it’s very possible. Good luck with your adventure!
Good luck down south! Thanks as always for sharing-your videos are awesome!
I love any excuse to look at a map so I looked up the distance from the north tip of NZ to the bottom and it came to roughly 2076km (1290miles) which isn't far off driving from one end of Ontario to the other 2090km (1298miles). Good luck with the move.
We did that Jan 2021 here in Canada for the same exact reason, a weird trend I wasn’t expecting is Homebuyers get on average getting 200k from their parents for a down payment…I guess that is where all the wealth went. Add in foreign investors/speculators/rich people and you get a 1bd 700 sq ft condo going for over a million $
I'd suggest escaping Auckland may be one of the more difficult decisions you've had to make. But, I'd be very surprised if this is a call you'll ever regret. All the very best with your new adventure. And, keep up with the great content!
Cheers David! Definitely, it wasn't an easy one,. Now that we have made the decision, we are pretty excited.
Makes me feel better as a Pommie. I have been to NZ four times but never the South Island. Travelled extensively through North Island…..
Looking forward to seeing new location.
Just pause it at 6:41, jess wanted to move since you got back from Scotland. 🤔 just move here (🏴) permanently! The 2 bed apartment I have I bought about 8 years ago for less than 100k NZD (£50k). Get your butt's back to Scotland, you'd get an entire detached 3 or 4 bed two story house for 300k gbp!
What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, Scott! Your channel is a delight! You have so much talent, here in Singapore you could certainly rake in the dough if you put in as much work as you’re putting there at home~ Also, kudos to your perseverance!
Welcome to the south!!!!! Hope to bump into you one day! 👍🏼
Is it a secret still, which town you are going to start in?
