Building report has been done, plaster specialist has been booked. Now we need a big builder like you to replace the moisture timber framing wall (recladding). good luck with your move guys, we moved to France nearly 4 years ago and have never regretted a single moment - sometimes just stepping out into the dark with the one you love is all you need. You'll be fine,and the South Island is lucky to get you!
Other essential things I always carry in my bag: 1> A good non contact volt stick for detecting a live wire (mine is a Fluke). If it beeps it is live BUT do not rely on it to prove something is definitively dead...for that use a multimeter. 2> A small lock out with a long hasp to isolate a power breaker using a key. It needs your contact number & name printed on it so you can be called. I never trust someone else to supply the only lock out on a site... 3> A small first aid pouch with a sealed eye bath bottle, eye drops & an Israeli bandage just in case of a major cut...you only have a minute or so if you have a major bleed before you pass out. 4> One each 1/2" & 3/4" Shark Bite fit, ball valves. If you cut a pipe by accident, you can stick one of these on any pipe, PEX or copper even if there is water flowing to stop the flood. 3 minutes trying to find the stop valve can do MASSIVE damage to a house. 5> Screwdriver with interchangeable bits in the handle.

I'm going through this right now as I am getting rid of my trailer and pairing down to a truck with cap and a small section of my garage. You don't know what you have until you start going through it and you often don't know what you need when you're in the middle of a job either.

I think I've moved 9 times over the last 20 years so I know all too well that feeling of emptiness, when everything is all done and cleaned, and that you close the door. I am so happy for you guys to be making the move to the South Island. It is difficult to leave family and friends, but the thing my wife and I love about New Zealand is that; not matter where you go everyone is welcoming and generous. I can't wait to see the next exciting episodes and location.
Damn right about that. I have done a fair bit of traveling, but never really felt like anywhere I went I could call home, don't get me wrong I have been to some nice places and would probably live in a lot of them for a year or 2, but within hours of touching down in Christchurch, I felt 'home' I felt like I could live there very happily for the rest of my life. After 2 weeks in Christchurch and driving around the south island, my opinion did not change and even 3 years later I still look forward to the day I may be able to make the move.
Cool you were generous with your tools. All very exciting to be moving. It's not difficult to imagine you both are exhaused physically and mentally from all the lifting and moving all your belongings combined with the myriad of decisions involved.
