In the last few years, I’ve started noticing more yarn with OEKO-TEX certification on the label
Yes and that is important to know when doing vintage patterns
🙌🏻 exactly
We don't have dates on yarn in England. I know yarn is very old if my Mum had it, rather old of I got it when my kids were young and if it's in a cardboard box in my room or small bedroom its within 2yrs old 😁 and there's a lot of that 😊. I'd love to charity shop shop but alas they don't have "facilities" 🤭.
We don't have yarn weight numbers either... now barcodes, yes...
Love this different video thougb
Love the deductive reasoning here!!
The center pulls were so much better on older skeins!

Wow thanks for the information 😊
i recently inherited a friend's late grandmother's yarn stash and i was wondering how old most of it was, thank you so much for this!
Great video! I learned a lot
Awesome 🙌🏻 it was a fun one to put together
My husband buys a lot of yard sale yarn for me and most of it has no label. He tests the yarn by pulling on a piece to see how much tension it can take. If it breaks easily then it's probably to old to knit or crochet with. I make hats for the homeless and want a yarn that's going to hold up for them and not fall apart.
Hmm that is a good test.
Good info!
Thank you for this. I have some yarn in my stash that I couldn't figure out when it was made. It 1970's red Heart Super saver feeling. 😖 Now I know it was made in the 60's. Yarn was probably not as soft back then. I cringe when I think that people made sweaters out of it.
That’s what turtle necks are for
Actually yarn was often very nice at the LYS. But not cheap. I bought some beautiful patterns from there & my yarn I got at Woolworth's so I could do beautiful crafts on a budget. Woolworth's also carried Coats and crafts pattern books for a dime. We also got bare dolls from the craft section and crocheted their clothes so all the little girls could have dolls at a good price. Used our scraps to make little drawstring purses. and crocheted spirals to make ponytail ties and pompoms to decorate tennis shoes. We had fun.
Great job Kim! It has brought back some memories or old yarn labels and how they did look like and how much the information on the labels have changed. Do you know why the Craft Yarn Council stated to add more information on the labels? I am glad they did put the information on the labels for numerous reasons.
I'm old enough to remember when yarn only had ounces on it. I believe most yarn came in a standard weight, so the pattern would tell you how many skeins you needed. (I was a kid at the time, so I'm not 100% positive on this.) Now yarn comes in all different sizes, so you have to know the yardage.
When will you and your geek be back together I miss you?
