I just got mine in. This knife is a monster. Completely absurd. The blade is ridiculously thick. Way too much jimping. The pocket clip is like a giant banner. I would talk about how ridiculous the pocket clip is, but it matches the knife. I love it! You know you are carrying a knife when you have this beast in your pocket. Great review and disassembly video. Thanks for posting.

So glad to see SOG moving beyond the Walmart paradigm lately. This looks like something I’d actually buy and use. I do wish they’d drop that billboard on the clip.
Me too but in fairness to them this knife has been toned down as far as billboarding for SOG, lol. They are making positive steps bacause old SOG would have SOG on both sides of the handle as well as the clip and blade.

I am ashamed to admit the effect this knife is having on me. I'm obsessed with this. I will have one soon . Excellent video.when you see jimping like this you know exactly what this blade is for. This isn't a camping or letter opener. This is top knotch self defense. The jimping folks is for when you are forced to defend that the blood want cause you to loose your grip. Think that's not a real issue? I know immediately they know nothing their talking about. In old days we put a string of leather through so in battle when not if it slips from all the gore at least you want drop it to the ground it would just hang around your wrist. This is the most lethal beautiful folder I've ever seen for what I believe it's created for.

That's a fine looking grind, always nice to see a clip point get some love. Of course the one spot they didn't jimp is where it counts most for safety: where you rest your index finger on the tab when open. But this knife is a solid chunk of a monk.

This was my very 1st SOG, first knife of theirs that caught my eye. I love that knife, AND all the jimping. The knife would not be as nice for me without it. I drove a truck for 40 years, my hands will eventually smooth out the jimping, haha, great lock, great steel, being older my grip has waned a bit but this knife sticks to my hands, I could not be happier. Sharp as shit out of the box also. Worth every bit of $153 on WhiteMountain, matter of fact, this video cleaned out Justin's stock. Later, Mr Lee, Thanks!

What a great, solid review... Thank you. I just ordered this knife from Blade HQ (sold out on WMK). Price went up about $20, not sure if that's due to demand, the holidays, Bidenflation, or what.. but I still bought it. This will be replacing my Proelia TX010 as my EDC. I'm a big dude with big hands, I need a big knife, and boy does this fit the bill.

This is a Great Knife , I've had mine for about a month and the fidget factor is awesome , the s35vn holds a great edge , but there is only one thing holding it back from being a true hard use BEAST and that's the bearings . I'm a big Cold Steel Fan and if this knife had washers I might have put it on equal footing with my Recon 1's , 4 Max and AD10 , I'm hoping Sog comes out with a washer model next year

I don't see the problem with the bearings at all. Anything you're doing to a knife that could damage bearings, you probably shouldn't be doing with a folder anyway. Sounds more like a job for a fixed blade. I'd rather have the rapid one-handed deployment. Don't forget, this IS a tactical knife, so when you need it, you need it 2 seconds ago. Nothing worse than a folder not fully deploying because its washers stick.
@@HeWhoIsWhoHeIs The problem with bearings is , it's a lot easier for dirt and crud to get in between the bearing and cause problems and even failure , where it's a lot harder for that to happen to flat washers. Anybody that works a Construction job or has hunted out it the rain or snow will tell you if you drop those washered knives in the mud by accident , you could be in big trouble ...
I just prepared my Bugout bag in case I have to leave the house due the virus outbreak. Human beings will present the greater risk if society collapses. My overbuilt folder will be the Recon 1 which its always with me since 3 years ago but you would be blessed to have this Sog Seal XR in the woods.

That's a generous slab of S35 there. US made? This one has my attention. 160 bucks is not unreasonable at all imo. I won't carry this guy every day, but It will be tagging in and out with my Spartan for workdays in the hood. Almost makes me wanna get mugged. Kidding of course.

Hi Ltk,looks like a great knife but 8oz is quite a weight for edc wouldn't you say but i do like the design of this beast,also that didn't look like 4.7 mm blade stock did it ? even you thought it was wrong at first,like the way the xr lock lifts the blade when pulled. great vid man atb Dave

I've tried many times but I can't disassemble this knife. The Loctite on the pivot is too strong to undo. Is there anything I can do so I can take the seal apart to clean/maintain?
You might try to use a hair dryer to heat up the pivot and see if that helps

Looks like I'd wear out a few sanding drums on my dremel if I decided to but that bad boy, lol. I like the overall design, but that jimping is ridiculous. I'm glad to see SOG stepping up their game. Gerber is trying but they aren't doing quite as well.
Gerber better get with the program or they will be out of business. But it does not have to be that way if they really care about their customers.
How does this knife compare to a cold steel .when I say cold steel I mean the recon 1 or the American lawman .
@@rickeybullington68 If you're asking me, I couldn't say because I don't have the SOG. I do have the 2 CS's, and I love them both, but without having handled the SOG I really couldn't say. That jimping is just to much for me, so I don't plan on buying one either. I like the design, but damn..that jimping is ridiculous.

Rickey Bullington That’s kinda Apple & oranges. The Recon is lighter and way more slender. But the SealXR is robust and chunky but well make. Have you seen some of the UA-cam field tests ? It’s a beast !
@@LuvThemKnives no I have not seen any field test. But I would like to have both knifes .I have about 7 or 8 sog knifes .but no cold steel knifes yet .I've seen a lot of revicew s on utube in the last 2 days of the cold steel knifes and they are a beast .got to get some of them .

Ive done way more testing on bearing orientation(and just bearings in knives, overall) than any sane person should, and ive come to the conclusion it absolutely does not matter which way you put them in.
Ive also seen no real difference in performance between steel or ceramic, corrosion aside, or plastic race vs brass.
The only thing that makes any difference, obviously, is bearing diameter and single vs mult row bearings.
The "backwards" argument doesn't even make sense. The bearings are centered in the race, leaving equal amount of the ball exposed on both sides. If your argument is dirt getting in the open side, then that doesnt matter either, because dirt is going to affect the performance regardless of it being between the bearing and blade or the bearing and the scale/liner, and neither orientation would offer superior resistance to dirt than the other.
My biggest takeaway from, unfortunately literally, years of testing... Multi row steel bearings, in plastic races, are the smoothest, long term option. Ceramic balls offer no real improvement over steel, while increasing wear to the steel they interface with.
