Want overcrowding on London's Transport to disappear so you can always get a seat? Guess what, your wish has been granted! As for Night Tubes, we got that, so we could support the 24-hour economy. Shame we didn't have "2020 Foresight" to see what was in store in our bright new future "empowered" by such "free and global" exchanges of "new ways of thinking".
Oh well, let's just look back and enjoy this microcosm of how life used to be - the first day of the new national ITV1 identity after 4 years of being twinned with the then hitherto regional station names that were once so familiar, and the first ITV London Tonight on that switchover day of Monday, 1st November 2004.
Incidentally this marked the end of the ITV London "regional" news being produced by a local contractor (as it had been London News Network, a Joint Venture of Carlton and LWT since 1993) and being handed over to ITN, the producer of the national news for ITV, Channel 4 and (at various times, Channel 5).
Thumbnail image shows a rare long shot glimpse of the London Tonight set as viewed from an opposing balcony within ITN's HQ at 100 Gray's Inn Road, London (where they are still based to this day).
This actually aired on 1st March 2004, as this was the first 6 O'Clock programme in the generic set from ITN. Even Katie and Alastair both briefly mentioned this being the new look in the beginning of the programme.
Shame that in 2012 ITV News chose to lump the programme into the same studio as the ITV National News. This means a lot of the time, the 6pm and 10.30pm bulletins are largely pre-recorded.

The programme was ruined by then.
The studio was good, but I prefer 1993-2004 pre-rebrand era style. Yellow was the perfect color for ITV.
Nothing good about it. Terrible result of ITV going corporate across the regions.
