I really love the berserker medal as well. I gave it to Vi during the Everlasting King fight so that Vi could keep hitting the boss without costing TP.
Ok but power exchange and hard charge are severly underrated. Hard charge trivializes the game with ice rain, and power exchange improves that strategy even further. There is no situation where doing 40 damage in one turn with an easy setup is a bad thing.
I personally would combine all medals useful in combat in one video. Offensive or defensive, because they are both useful in combat, you can still gauge which is more worth equipping for the MP cost. I think it would help to establish what difficulty and conditions we're considering when we rank medals because it varies across, normal, hard, and especially hardest, not to mention frameone and ruigee. Medals also vary in usefulness depending on enemy combat vs bosses. The only one I hard disagree with is last attack. That's an easy S tier for me on any playthrough. It trivialized my hardest mystery run when I got both of them early. Attack up is a huge deal in this game, especially on harder difficulties where enemies have beefy defense or more HP. Danger strats are really broken in general and pretty low risk. When you do so much damage that enemies hardly get any chance to attack you, turn relay exists to abuse in front attack bonus, you have taunt and bubble shield to divert damage, pep talk revives into perfect danger, and you revive on the field with 1 HP after battles, it feels like you're breaking the game to the point where it kinda ruins the game. Last attack gets even worse when combined with antlion jaws, power exchange, and/or berserker (which all but negates the need to use TP), and, if it's really necessary, strong start. With first strike giving an extra turn and the insane damage, it makes items really unnecessary and makes combat with anything that isn't a boss a monotonous grind. The only other badges that I thought were broken to the game's detriment were the do nothing medals, which make the game extremely boring, be they normal enemies or bosses even on hardest.
Guess it's a good thing I was planning on combining every medal in a universal tier list in the future anyway. I really just consider Hard Mode since that was the game's intended difficulty. Never have before tried any of the menu codes or playing without Hard Mode. That and I'm mostly just going off the limited experience from the 3 or 4 times I played the game so I know for a fact that I'm not going to be able to fully process the worth or drawbacks of every medal in the game. Case in point, Last Attack is looking really attractive right now reading your input. And I imagine that Antlion Jaws could be really good, too when enemies all gain universal defense boosts after a certain point in the game on Hardest. But looking at just the intended difficulty, they just don't never stuck out as that great to me.
bruh hard charge is easily S tier, especially with strong start + status relay. It is the ENTIRE REASON why every chapter after chapter 4 is incredibly easy (even playing hard more + hard hits). The only reason I ever took it off was because I was doing itemless challenges for boss rush/cave of trials.
I honestly found it overrated before learning how abusable it is with Vi's secret stash and heal plus just because you can't spam a move that drops your HP by 5 with so many bosses that have unpredictable AI and area of effect attacks. I'd say it's S tier now, but not back when literally all I've done at the time were solo bug challenges and a single blind playthrough.
@@PhantomAarantula Makes sense coming from solo bug challenges. I got great use out of it because my experience comes from hardest mode + hard hits where if anyone whose name isn't kabbu gets attacked they die pretty much instantly. I immediately used it when I got it because I just spammed taunt every turn with kabbu to ensure the other party members were completely safe (outside of enemies with AOE anyway) and I was like "free 20+ damage on turn 1, cool."
i mean, wasp king can still absolutely kick your ass with hard charge strats on hardest + hard hits also, hardest + hard hits EASILY turns the beast into the hardest boss in the game for me
@@ihaetschool3361 oh yeah that one phase on the beast. It makes you basically rethink your entire loadout just for that one fight. However there is a rather funny cheese involving the frostbite badge that essentially bypasses that phase almost entirely.
For your video quality you really should be showing examples of each medal being used in battle instead of showing random game footage. The footage being shown is not relavant to what your talking about.
I'm about half way into my first playthrough and I'm so discouraged by beserker being ranked last lol. Right now I have Kabbu equipped with a couple super guards, vi equipped with the beserker, jaws, favorite one, and last attack. Leif mostly just powers people up. This has worked well for me so far but I'm admittedly a little over leveled lol
Sounds like you're doing fine tbh. I wouldn't put too much weight into this tier list either since I was pretty inexperienced when I first made it. Lot of medals were underrated and Berserker I think is just a wee bit better than I gave it credit for.
I do think beserk is good against normal enemies in some cases. My personal strategy is using ant lion yaw plus berserker. I may also use ant lion yaw much because I do so many hardest runs
@magicjuulbus7140 Just beating the final boss? Going all in with attack boosting medals on Leif or Vi tends to be effective. Ice Rain and Frost Relay are both fantastic options, too and Kabbu can boast the Do Nothing medals with the HP Cores. He just about should never get KO'd then. If you want a slow, but guaranteed painful way to win though, use HP Cores and Life Cast on Leif, have him spam Bubble Shield Lite on himself, and give Vi all of the attack up medals you can muster. Including Berserker and Miracle Matter.
I watched this before but I might make an attack only set for vi on ruigee(started a playthrough and am on chapter 5) mostly because antlion jaw and berserker are weirdly costly on normal mode for having such niche effects(antlion ignores 1 defense for basic attacks only);or strong drawbacks(berserker doesn't allow you to do anything other than your basic attack). Ruigee fixes this since they all cost 1 instead of 5 not to mention that power exchange a less niche medal also costs 5 or 6 and now costs 1 in ruigee.
Well I definitely disagree with this one, power exchange and last attack are definitely better than poison attacker. I can't really think of any situation where power exchange and last attack weren't useful, they're useful on enemies and bosses as well as the cave of trials and the EX boss rushes. Poison attacker is only good on bosses, I never use it on regular enemies, the cave of trials, or the EX boss rushes so that alone puts it below power exchange and last attack for me. What I disagree on the most in this video though is your placement of hard charge, hard charge is godlike and I would argue that it's the best badge in the game. Whenever I play this game, I never level up HP and make it so that my main attacker (which is always either Vi or Leif) has minimum HP, so that whenever I use hard charge, it instantly puts that party member into danger while also giving them a +3 charge right away which allows you to do massive amounts of damage in one turn due to not only the +3 attack from the charge but also another +2 attack from both last attacks because of danger status. Favourite one is definitely great just like poison attacker, but I also wouldn't put it in top tier. Basically I would put hard charge, power exchange, and last attack all in S tier, poison attacker in A tier, favourite one in B tier, and just like you I would also put antlion jaws and berserker in C tier.
I have no idea why UA-cam thought to flag this comment, but the point you made with Hard Charge is lowkey kinda brilliant. Most of my experience with this game has come from only using bugs on their own and having low HP just seemed risky imo so I favored medals that inherently involved team support. Last Attack I heard convincing stuff over and it helped learning how it could pair with other medals like Life Stealer, too. Power Exchange uh... ngl after learning some actually broken tactics and with the existence of Miracle Matter, I can see that medal being pretty incredible. I still stand by Poison Attacker's rank though just because bosses make up a lot of the game and when combined with Weak Stomach and later on Eternal Venom, it's extremely easy to activate. And it's viable even for the B.O.S.S. when even without triggering it yourself, a lot of bosses are capable of poisoning. Cave of Trials it may not be great, but considering I literally never bother with that place since the only prize of value from it imo is TP Saver, I can't say I ever even considered it for this list.
@@PhantomAarantula probably should have read more of the comments before posting. Sorry about that. On another note congratulations on beating the pebble toss run.

Very nice tier list in this underrated gem, and very thorough too. Great video Phantom
Much appreciated, guy.
Poison attack is amazing as long as not in the cave of trails. Or boss rush.
I think that’s obvious but wanted to point it out anyway
Very much so.
Cool series! I’d love to see more tier listing videos from you (even outside the sphere of Bug Fables). You do a good job at providing explanations.

The best defense is VI’s offense
Until Ice Rain
Ice rain is expensive as hell and you lose out on bubble shield. Vi's healing is garbage so I use him for offense.
