Ohhh he watches!! I went live when I unboxed my first Romans and as soon as the live was done, there was the same email you just described in my inbox!! Love that he is so invested and passionate!!
I love that about him! It’s rare to find nowadays. Come to think of it, I know of another terrific and very passionate art supply maker that’s really invested in her customers… if I could only remember her name… 🤔
Mr. Szmal, you know how to business properly! I hope you read these comments! I’ve not yet been able to afford any of your product yet (not because your prices are unreasonable; they’re actually priced incredibly well, I’m just broke 😂). But they are in my list because you take so many business risks that most companies would never consider because of returns on investments. Your company stands out for many reasons in this industry, and I am so thrilled to see you’ve begun making brushes!! I just got my first quill brush from Princeton and if I had known your company sells them, I would have chosen your brand. I admire your company ethics and practices very much. Thank you for understanding the benefits of feedback, whether positive or negative. You can tell Margot is genuinely thrilled to receive such a generous PR package. Hats off to you and your team! Thank you for listening! ❤ Happy holidays to the Szmal company and blessings to both Margot and you 🎄❤️🙏
Just as you don't expect a manufacturer to apologize for whatever they put out, why would you then feel a need to apologize for your honest opinion about said product? In this case it's apparent you really like the product itself, just not the packaging. A manufacturer would appreciate that kind of feedback. 🙂
Don't forget, youtubers are on UA-cam too get freebies, sponsorships and make money. UA-cam is the infomercial app. If they tell the truth they don't get freebies. Don't forget that. One day they are telling you you must have single pigment paints. Then Roman gives freebies to a few youtubers and suddenly they don't care that almost every color Roman sells is multiple pigments. Don't listen to these people
I love how effortlessly Margot swatches paints. My swatches never, ever, look like this!! I could watch Margot swatch paints and talk about the colours all day! Margot, you may have talked about this and I've missed it, but I would love a video about transparency and opacity. Seems basic, but a lot of people don't really talk about the importance of this element of paint and the value of using transparent paints and when opaque paints are particularly useful. I've been doing more botanical painting (which I always struggle with), but another artist who does mention transparency alerted me to how important this is and how using transparent paint can really help your paintings to glow. I'd love to hear your expertise on this topic. You explain things in such detail and useful terms.
HE MADE A RESERVOIR BRUSH WITH TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRISTLES!! I love the idea of a reservoir brush (the big part towards the ferrule holds a lot of water so that your more detailed part doesn't have to constantly be dipped back in paint). My only problem is that when it is the same type of bristle all the way through the wet will just stay towards the top. BUT with a bristle that get dry a lot quicker than a natural bristle it should wick the water/paint down to the tip! You know, the whole molecules like to go from an area of greater concentration to an area of lesser concentration thing. Ooooooh, I'm gonna get me that brush!
Cheap Joes has had a Lizard Lick and Creative Mark Mimik has several sizes of a resevoir script. The Lizard Lick is quite expensive the Creative Mark Mimik is a mix of synthetic and real squirell, and very affordable.
I finished a small sketch an hour ago… I had to stop to cook supper! I am extremely happy with my Roman Szmals paints. They were curated for Roisin Cure, another one of my favorite artists! You are both very inspirational. He should create a pan just for you!
Hi Margot, love the video and love the fact that Roman contacted you but I'm not surprised. I bought some Szmal paints after watching the video you did a while ago, as I imagine a lot of your watchers did. They really are beautiful paints and have bought more since, including a few of the new colours in this video. Someone has suggested he create a palette for you, that would be a wonderful idea. x
Irresistible !
I LOVE my Roman Szmal watercolors. They are my favorite watercolors. They are reasonably priced. Love the full pans. Didn’t know they made brushes. That’s a dangerous thing to know….😂💸💸
I really like your ability to easily bring forth art history and related stories. So interesting and different from other channels. I’d like more of that, your travel and cultural experiences creating art and skills for me to create such art. I know you’re extremely busy and I’ll be patiently waiting:)
I love your videos and your work. I have struggled with depression and anxiety for decades and art helps me. My art goals this year include “perfecting” my colored pencil drawing and start developing watercolor skills.
I had initially tried Roman Szmal based on your first video. Thank you for that review because I love painting with them now. In this set, I'm struck by the vibrancy once again. His colors are just beautiful and remind me of gemstones.
You redeemed yourself. I have a large set of Roman Szmal and they are incredible. I am trying to resist ordering any more right now, but you are making it very difficult!
A little late getting here, but I have to comment on how that nickel titanium yellow just lights up the "benzy" brown as it flows into it! Truly like the rays of the sun - as you had said! Just stunning!! Thank you for swatching all of these - definitely some shades here I would love to have in my collection!
Beautiful colors! I love how you incorporate art and pigment history and color connections to famous artists and works of art.❤ they remind me and take me back to my art school days. You’re going to need a bigger palette for you new paints now! Speaking of, what is that red palette? I like it’s tin and potential versatility. I’m aware from previous videos you‘ve made a switch to the black Meeden ones. Love your videos!
Those paint colors are beautiful. my favorites were always black and gray photos. Pictures of rainy days, cityscapes. now I'm doing one in acrylic. I think I would like to try one in watercolor too.
Another fabulous video Margot, I'm so pleased Roman Szmal reached out to you, he comes across as such a lovely man, dedicated to his craft. I now own more of his paints than even my A Gallo or Schminche ones because the quality is so good for the price bracket. That double bristle brush is looking very tempting and I loved how you ordered the swatches into no real order!
Mr. Szmal seems like such a sweet, passionate, awesome man! Jackson's UA-cam page has a video interviewing Mr. Szmal and he talks about how he got started, pigments, how the business is run, his responsibilities, etc and at the end of three video he seems to genuinely enjoy seeing when artists enjoy using his watercolors. I am soooooo green with jealousy over your Roman Szmal palette and new colors, lol! Unfortunately, I can not afford to try Roman Szmal just yet, but I REALLY REALLY want to! I have had my eye on them for awhile now, since 2020. I can't wait until I get my set!!!
Fabulous video! Thank you to Mr. Szmal for sending these to you, so we could get to see this! I bought one of those combo brushes when I first saw them online, because it was such a good idea. I love it! I don't use it often, but when I do, it's so great at what it does! Thank you for your lovely informative and entertaining videos. 🌻
I love Roman. I had to put them in the freezer when they came (half pans). I bought them because I watched your video. I then bought a few weeks ago 28 paint set of Aquarius. I love Roman Szmal!
I loved this video. I like hearing your descriptions of the colors and your stories, and the history. I enjoy seeing the clips of paintings or tapestries they remind you of. Thanks you.
Margot, You got an early Xmas gift from Mr. SZMAL ❤ I got my paints August 2022 and most of them from Artemiranda shop in Spain which full pans were around 3.50 and now they are double. I am happy I got all my paints full pans which in my opinion the half pans are a little bit overpriced for what you are getting. I do love the 5 set trial but I only wish they were offer in different sets of 5. Love your videos! Maria
not a cook but yr delivery is mouthwatering...a restaurateurs palette combined with a sommelier & a cachet-y perfumer's nose... Roman should make you marketing directress...
Oh gosh, I love granulating colors… Roman Szmal is on my wish list now! Also love learning about tip on identifying natural hair brushes. Never knew that. Also never seen a combo brush before either…!
Wow! I am really interested in several of these colors, particularly the lovely dark violet color. I really enjoy this type of dark moody color. It's very beautiful!!!
That's so cool! 😊 I'm not surprised someone who produces watercolors would contact you though. I hope you feel encouraged. 😊 You are talented and you make very interesting and instructive content.
Margot you recommended RS about a month ago in our DM chat; and boy I am super glad ai listened. Right now RS is my favorite! RS Payne’s gray is hands down I love for shadow work!❤❤❤
Oh how fun! I just love these paints and discovered them after watching another of your videos. I splurged and ordered a bunch and have been enjoying painting with them so much, definitely my new favs. Loved seeing the new colors, looks like I'll be saving up for another order. Thanks Margot, I really appreciate your videos 😊
Thanks for sharing. I splurged last month on Roman Szmals from Jackson's Art. They are luscious. I'm sadly in the zone of THESE ARE PRECIOUS and have only done a basic swatching to keep with the set. If you could do a video on how to get out of the zone of treating them and one's work as oh so precious it would be fantastic. That feeling holds back so many from enjoying the process and their materials.
Work small. I find making something like a card works. It’s a gift, so it’s worth it to be ’special’, but it’s small enough to only use a small amount of paint.
I decided that life is too short to hoard all my beautiful fabric and paint. I have started using all of it. Why keep it on a shelf and just admire it?!? Then it will get sold at an estate sale after I’m dead?!?! Nope. Maybe I have this attitude because I’m getting older now but I’m making all the things with my precious things.
@@lzal9204Totally agree with you. 🎉 Use the best silverware & burn the best candles & paint with the best paints on the best paper you have. 🤓 Tomorrow is not promised. Live your best life daily. 💕🌸🎉🥳🙏🏽
I am enchanted with how you swatch these. I will do that with mine and I find it much more interesting than what I have tried doing before. Thank you for reviewing these paints. I am eager to try them.
Margot, hello & lovely video! Those colors!! I hadn't specifically heard the distinction between natural & synthetic brushes in water, but now that you mention it, I think I've seen that floaty behavior. :) I wonder if that's why the natural ones hold more water -- maybe it just gets more in between the fibers...? I also wanted to let you know I really like when you add in the pictures for your references (the greek vase! total match, wow!) and appreciate the extra work it must be to coordinate it all... thanks!
Auntie M 😂 WOW!!! So impressed with the brushes!!! 🎉I immediately got on Jackson’s and ordered two sizes of the brushes with the orange center. The way you demonstrated it’s unique paint holding ability just mesmerized me. Also, I’ve never heard that real sable brushes hold more water😮. I may have to invest in one. Thank you for another entertaining and informative video 🙏
I have 28 Roman szmal full sized pans and 2 quill 113 brushes ( medium & large ) , I’ve only had my Roman szmals a few months now , I’m new to them and I love them inc the quill brushes . I have a few of the new paints as well .
OMGee that Urban Gray is fantastic! I don't always watch a lot of swatching, but I'm enjoying watching you swatch...I like the way you're bumping the colors up against each other and the background info 👍And then this entire collection Mr. Schmalz sent you is WOW! I said I wasn't going to buy anymore wcs for a while but I might have to reconsider. 😊❤
So funny Margot-I grew up in NYC and also grew up LOVING Harry Chapin…how are these two things 35:31 related? Well if you KNOW Harry Chapin then you know Taxi-prob his biggest album….immediately when you mentioned color conjuring up memories for you, the first thought that came to mind was both Harry, NYC taxi CABS, and both being beloved pieces of my youth.❤️ Thank you for another amazing video & hitting it the park as always!! God Bless!!😄😂
Hullo Margot, I do enjoy your swatching and seeing the paints wash into one another. I have a 24 set of Roman's paints, but I do not often reach for them! I recieved them for a gift and I simply have not been as excited as you in using them. I did find several of these newer colors quite appealing and perhaps I will look into getting a few and replacing the ones I am not as enthusiastic about. I have been saving my funds for an A.Gallo purchase. I love that they have started filling full pans! I do have a custom selected 14 color set of A.Gallo paints and I only reach for them after I have done a sample or test painting! I am looking at a 24 full pan set! Ah well one day. I know that I should not be buying any more paints as I have enough to last me and several other artists years and years of painting pleasure, yet how are we to resist when new "colors" seem to be coming out all of the time? I hope your doing well and staying safe out there! Have a Lovely Day!
You’re depth of knowledge about colors blows me away! Could you do a video explaining what the prefix before the color name means? When you say you are a periline girl, what does that mean? What is the difference between a quinacradone color and a “regular” color? (Please excuse my spelling ~ I’m new to this!) Thanks!
Hi Vikki! So glad you liked the video! Quinacridone and Perylene are pigments that give your paints the color and properties they have. I think this video would be useful to you because it's all about how your paints are formulated and the unique properties they have based on the pigments in them > ua-cam.com/video/mOuOssgAqDo/v-deo.htmlsi=pJ3_IFJZywH1K6lM Let me know if it helps!
That Velvet Black is making my horror-loving heart kick like a rabbit. It really set me up for King in Yellow vibes with the Anth Yellow that followed.
Fantastic products! I have a feeling that I might be filling one of my empty 24 half pan palettes with some Roman Szmal colors in the nearest future :')
As a new painter, I'm watching you swatch and wondering what you are doing off camera with the brush and water pan and pallet. How much color to begin? Then, are you dipping water or just wiping to get the blend you are achieving? Are you going straight from pan or using a pallete? Thanks.
Hey Margo...Catching up to you...haven't seen your vids in my feed for a while...anyway, you certainly didn't do anything wrong in sharing your opinion of RS wc packaging. But I'd feel a bit sheepish too if I then got an email from anyone after I just finished "criticizing" a product of theirs. I mean, I just would, even if it was justified. And Mr. Schmalz is a class act, for sure. 👍YT creators should feel free to simply give their honest but fair evaluation of products, even if it's just the packaging. Someone's genuine critique of products helps all of us out. p.s. I love perylene's too!
Love this video, you have a very unique perspective. Just a thought, it would be nice if you would write the name of the color you are swatching on the screen. Thank you for these videos!
The first one looks like Baohong's green cover sheet. The 2nd pad looks like Fabriano Artistico. Both of those are my 2nd and 3rd choice, respectively, after Arches. Boahong, however, has become my go-to paper during 2023. 😊 Thank you for another wonderful video, Margot. 😍
Margot- wow! I used to collect Bombay Sapphire ads from magazines and also the Absolut Vodka ads too… Would you please show some of your Bombay Sapphire work again!? It would be so cool
I'm looking at the paints now XD. Also, I hate changing brushes while I'm painting, so I usually use a big squirrel brush from the wash stage all the way to details... Anyone else?
Uh oh…just when I thought I didn’t need any more watercolor… 🤦♀️ Well, good thing I’m not too proud to admit when I’m wrong…! 😂 Jackson’s…here I come!
I LOVED my RS watercolors, but since he uses ox gal, I decided not to buy anymore. (allergy to mammalian byproducts and didn't want the risk--found out after I bought).
Misheard: "Mr. Szmal is always formulating new colors and pigment ideas....Mr Szmal was a pigment SORCERER." 😂 That explains how his paint is so magical.

Well if you KNOW Harry Chapin then you know Taxi-prob his biggest album….immediately when you mentioned color conjuring up memories for you, the first thought that came to mind was both Harry, NYC taxi CABS, and both being beloved pieces of my youth.❤️
Thank you for another amazing video & hitting it the park as always!!
@@Pointebrush Thanks! I'll take a look
That Velvet Black is making my horror-loving heart kick like a rabbit. It really set me up for King in Yellow vibes with the Anth Yellow that followed.
Probably not going to be in my budget any time soon. He could feel free to send me his collection to try. Lol😬😂
Very entertaining! 👏🏽
Love your videos. They are fun and informative. Hope you do many more❤️
Love this video, you have a very unique perspective. Just a thought, it would be nice if you would write the name of the color you are swatching on the screen. Thank you for these videos!
This was so funny 😂
Thank you for this. I believe you forgot to add the Natural Umber Red to your list, unless I am missing something. :-)
Which do you prefer Roman Szmal or A. Gallo watercolor paints?
After working with them both for the past year, hands down Roman Szmal. 👍
Using mine today. 😊
What are you painting today? Do share!
@@Pointebrush my neighbor’s Japanese maple tree! It’s a gorgeous red! I couldn’t resist!
Schmincke’s Cobalt Violet hue is the same pigment as Strontium Violet: PV62.
3:11 I thought you were gonna call Roman a “pigment sorcerer” 💀 it’s makes sense tho lol
Clearly I need to get a you tube channel. How kind of Mr RS!
In this house we love duochrome yellows. You want an orange and a mid yellow? Get py153. You want an earth yellow and a lemon-mid yellow? Get py150
Hi Margot could you give an opinion on the different types of bleed proof white??
What size is that Roman Szmal 911 brush, I noticed on Jackson's it comes in different sizes.
Quin Warm Scarlet = watermelon without mixing 🍉😋
I need to know the paper :-) because how paper and paint play together are so important. And these colors are so amazing.
Baohong? Paper
I used to collect Bombay Sapphire ads from magazines and also the Absolut Vodka ads too…
Would you please show some of your Bombay Sapphire work again!? It would be so cool
I'm looking at the paints now XD. Also, I hate changing brushes while I'm painting, so I usually use a big squirrel brush from the wash stage all the way to details... Anyone else?
Uh oh…just when I thought I didn’t need any more watercolor… 🤦♀️
Well, good thing I’m not too proud to admit when I’m wrong…! 😂 Jackson’s…here I come!
You are not nobody.😊
Aww thank you! And “You are not nobody” sounds like the title of a top-10 hit single 😂
I LOVED my RS watercolors, but since he uses ox gal, I decided not to buy anymore. (allergy to mammalian byproducts and didn't want the risk--found out after I bought).
Beautiful, beautiful colours and flow to these paints. I wish they were Vegan, so I could buy them, but I read this brand uses honey 🍯
fist pump on the gamboge earned the like
Let's see you make your own watercolor paint and we can compare it to Roman's.
Misheard: "Mr. Szmal is always formulating new colors and pigment ideas....Mr Szmal was a pigment SORCERER." 😂 That explains how his paint is so magical.
Give the graphite gray a try if you want intense granulation. You might be surprised.
Cinnabar contains mercury, which explains the toxicity. Think, Mad Hatter crazy!
35:40. But look at the GREEN baby that black pigments make! Mmmmmm~
This is cost prohibitive for me but look so gorgeous on the video. They must be dynamic in person.
