    It was great that you had footage of what it looked like when the stores were still open to juxtapose with what it looks like now since that helps capture the feeling of what once was. The hardest thing to explain to people in the future will be the feeling of malls when they were at their peak. My local mall is still very much alive, but the feeling is completely different because teenagers and young adults don't really go there anymore.

    When Malls get run down, people stop going. Most Malls are maintenance nightmares which causes stores to charge more for items due to high rents.

    A lot of memories at this mall. I miss Hallmark. Bought a lot of Christmas gifts there. My wife worked at Vanity and I worked at Hibbett Sports. I miss the old Walmart too with it’s cafe with big bags of popcorn and that candy store that’s a knick knack shop. I loved how you added the old time photo and video to yours. Bravo!

    Have 2 malls here in savannah ga one called the savannah mall the other called Oglethorpe mall. Savannah mall use to be a great mall but now it's a ghost town it quite sad cause I remember going there as a kid and now it looks completely abandoned still a few store run there but that's it. Oglethorpe mall it's the opposite it's always packed no matter the day new stores always coming and going

    This was a very good video! I haven’t been to this mall in years as I don’t like going back home too often. I can tell you as a 14 year old when this mall opened it was very exciting! It seemed like Ottumwa was on the right track, sadly poor leadership in the late 90’s would seal the city’s fate. Poor mall management didn’t help this mall either. I know they can’t control poor business decisions that led some big stores to close, but they forced a lot of locally owned out with high rent.
    The original arcade from 1990 was Tilt. It was in the hall that branched out that you showed. It was the one with pink tile on the wall. Sam Goody would actually come later, there was a locally owned music store called Soundwaves. The radio shack relocated from the north side of town when the mall opened, as did Target. They built that building in 94. Hallmark was originally called Coachhouse Gifts, a Hallmark store. The corner shop near the entrance to the old Walmart was a locally owned video rental Video Showroom. It was their second location, the first being on west Second. When it originally opened there was also two other restaurants, a Maidrite and a Chinese fast food place similar to Panda Express. Where Ashby’s is was a Baskin-Robbins. It was sad seeing Herburgers empty. I had bought my first girlfriend’s Christmas gifts there in 1992. This was such a wonderful video! Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories and finding the old footage that took me back to the 90’s. And f*** you for making me sad about the state of the mall! Haha

    It's not really a dead mall as far as I know, but Woodland mall in Kentwood/Grand Rapids, MI used to have this really cool fountain called Split Ring, I remember it from when I was a kid, I never got any pictures or videos but it would be neat to see again. That's been gone since sometime in the 90s I believe.

    I’m actually in Ottumwa working at this mall and it’s so much worse in just 2 years. The only retail left inside the mall is Claire’s, the jewelry store and Dunhams. It’s terrible.

    This intro was very well done! Honestly it gave me flashbacks of shopping in malls in the early 2000s. Not gonna lie I think it would be awesome if you did one video paying homage to retail in the 2000s before everything went to crap. Golden era for retail and life in my opinion was 1980-2014. After that everything became political, the retail apocalypse really set in and than along came a pandemic on top of it………..Normal life is now completely lost in my opinion and it’s only getting worse and crazier out there. Be safe when your in some of these places as well bro!

    Maybe the white tile was mixed in when the tiles got either warped or chipped as they probably could not get those blue tiles as they were most likely discounted by the manufacturer shortly probably around 1995-1996.

    Malls were doomed, regardless of COVID. They've been going "downhill" since the early 90's. Plenty of malls were shut down in the late 80's, more shut down in the late 90's. Even more were shut down in the early 2000's. Any mall left standing now, is either on its way to being leveled, or at least 1/3 of the mall is empty....and the other stores are following soon.
    The problem with malls nowadays is, they aren't keeping up with what people need. Modern malls should have doctors offices, city offices, grocery stores, a mail service center, an emergency clinic, besides the usual clothing and housewares stores and restaurants.
    But mall owners aren't interested in updating to what people need in a mall. They want to sell the property to make a shit ton of money.

    • @NorthCdogg22
      @NorthCdogg22  2 роки тому +2

      I 100% agree, it’s so sad how owners don’t even care anymore.. and are willing to just sell a mall out instead of bringing life back to it in any way..

    My buddy has a successful arcade in there these days. Honestly that's the only reason why I go, And to bubba's. The previous owners of the mall had high high rent from what I hear and that assisted in driving out small business.
