Here is the link to the Blizzard of 1978. Sadly UA-cam copyrighted me for having it in my video, I would highly suggest checking it out as it’s pretty entertaining! ua-cam.com/video/Jjg7E8oIss8/v-deo.html
When you think of the thousands of people who worked at all of the stores in this mall, stocked its shelves and delivered the merchandise, as well as those who cleaned it and kept up the grounds it is a staggering loss. Add to this the hundreds of thousands of customers over the years it is a sad thing when something of this magnitude fails. I can't help think of this failure as a total breakdown in terms of city planning, when too many malls are allowed to be built in too close proximity of each other.
Wow, I'm so glad that you had such a pleasant experience with this Mall's Security Guard as compared to the big belly one in one of your other videos. Thanks for the great content!
This video effected me as much as your video of Mall of the Bluffs (It used to be my hometown mall). So sad to see a mall in such good shape and so empty. Good job on this one!
It would be a shame to tear this down since it's in such great condition. I dread to think of these malls and all that material, concrete, glass, tile, etc going into landfills. Thanks for the video.
The best deadmall I have ever seen filmed. I am from the UK and watch a lot about deadmalls in the US, this is very well filmed, music is just right and the narrative spot on. Fantastic.
There is currently a closed sign at the main entrance due to “clean up.” Not exactly sure how long it’s been there. I live close by, and worked at the Elder Beerman years ago
I once saw an employee of a store in this mall laying on the floor behind the counter. By the time it took me to get my camera up on my phone to take a picture, they had gotten up. I love the atrium with the skylights and, while dated, the smoke lamps.
Another beautiful mall. Towne Mall Galleria. Not a food court yet but 2 resteraunts inside the mall. Eastland Mall here had a food court in 1981. I loved the Miss Selby's pink store front and the white storefront near the old Sears! Nice security guard that didn't try to throw you out. Glad it was open still to the mall walkers.
It's like watching a scene from the movie, Passengers.... the lights are all on - even mood lighting!... somebody is watering the plants!... truly an incredible and rare thing to see... grew up in Middletown up to summer '77...
I am FLOORED at how many malls you’ve covered that I have been to. This one we would go to if we needed a watch battery done etc. in the late 90s early 2000s. I always referred to this one as Middle TOWNE Mall and everyone knew which one that was. I never knew any information on this one, so I am thrilled you covered it.
I worked at Zondervan Christian book stores at this mall in the early 1990s. My mother taught piano at the Moeller music piano store which was near Sears all throughout the 80s. The center of the mall always had some form of entertainment. One year they even had a bear along with other animals. One interesting thing about Town Mall is it's actually part of Franklin Ohio. Middletown had a mall in their downtown area called City Center Mart. It went out of business. It was very very close to Middletown Library.
If you're ever on the east side of Ohio, go 15 minutes over the border into PA and check out the Shenango Valley Mall. It's very similar to this one, complete with a township plan to revitalize it by turning it into what you termed a "lifestyle center".
I practically lived in this building from birth to age 21. My boyfriend and I still enjoy coming here. We walk around, tell each other stories from childhood, and test our memory of the store names/locations. At Christmas time this year, we visited Santa. (Yes. There was a Santa. And holiday decorations. Lol) Do you know what current plans are for this place?
I guess you’d eventually get tired of it, but it has to be a quaint/fascinating feeling to walk around to your own soundtrack, inside of this empty but healthy anachronism. Probably more meaningful than most of the stuff I do, tbh.
I stumbled upon your UA-cam channel, and I gotta say, it’s my favorite “Dead Mall” channel on the platform. How you don’t have hundreds of thousands of subscribers is beyond me! The storytelling is A-1, you are so deserving of more support! Keep doing what you’re doing, I love it!
Incredible video North! I never seen a mall so nostalgic and lost on time seemingly a liminal place. It shocks me this place is even open but, all the vacant tenants in mall just gives me a weird feeling like I am lost on time. I wish I could visit this place one day but, I sadly live to far away to do so. I am glad you got this mall on your journey and decided to do it because this mall, is like no other. Next mall is Miami Valley center I believe but, I know I already lost the guessing game. I had a streak going so I had to be stop lol!
Thanks for watching CoolCat, glad you enjoyed! And yeah walking in this mall was so surreal just felt like I was lost and frozen in a different time. Bizarre how it was open.. And hey maybe you’ll get it next week!
Wow this mall is lost in time. I like the light fixtures. It’s sad that it’s just sitting empty. The security guard must have a boring job but the mall looks clean and cared for. I wonder if there’s a way to revitalize it. It’s surreal seeing Radio Shack and Waldenbooks signs again.
A nice and genuine security guard at a dead mall? Who heard of such a thing? 😉😄 I do hope that security guard has more to hope for in the future and as you said, only the future can tell. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and as always, I look forward to another mall video from the dead mall video historian, NorthCdogg22!
Ah, Middletown. I only live maybe an hour 15 from there. I had no idea they even HAD a mall? Anyhoo, I love the music choice! Perfect "mall muzak". And did they actually have a Radio Shack?? I miss Radio Shack.
When I was younger… mid 90’s to the early 2000’s, malls were really the only place we had to shop. It was exciting to hang out with friends and family while looking for trendy clothes. Then came online shopping, and then came inflation. Myself personally, with this crazy world, I would rather shop online in the comfort of my own home. Evidently most people thought the same. It’s very sad tho! It’s like these malls are frozen in time! 😢
Very nice!!!! And the Kmart music. Gotta love it! See! You can easily use old un copyrighted music! Your doing great man! You got through that whole UA-cam copyright debacle like a champ!
I keep thinking wouldn't it be great if you was the searcher from Hollywood, looking for a almost made to order set for a movie, these malls are the place to shot the movie. Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't make many movies that need this kind of made to order set about everyday life. Anyway a great video, and I can see how you could get emotional about this mall.
Wish more old malls instead of drywalling over empty spaces would just leave them open and have the stores that have gone out leave their signs up. That old Radio Shack sign is nice and the wooden plank faced store I'm positive was a vintage 1980s Foot Locker.
Really wishing I hadn't watched this. The idea of a kind older man securing this place is sad .... abandoned himself it would seem from conversing with shoppers, deciding to remain in a structure completely forgotten. There may be a cleaning crew that comes in since it was in no way neglected? That's more heartbreaking than the building. God bless his heart for his dedication to a place forgotten.
When I was in Middle School my church youth group took us to a revival at some church in Middletown and they had us go to Towne Mall to "evangelize" to customers. I managed to hide in the arcade until Security kicked us out of the mall and called the cops.
So, you shunned the duty Christ calls us all to do, and that is bring more souls home. I might hit a confessional if I were you... meanwhile, God bless.
Another great video man! Such a sad mall, and I'd hate to see it get redeveloped into _another_ outdoor center. Also, where can I find that live stream?
I don't understand why security at these dead malls worry about people recording? There's usually no one there. I lived in RI when the blizzard of 78 happened. It was brutal on a huge chunk of the north east.
@@NorthCdogg22 yes, it shut down Providence, probably the state, for 2 weeks. We pretty much had it easy, heat, food, and even tv. Just couldn't go anywhere. We lived at the top of a hill and I remember seeing people on skis! All through the night cars would try to come up this hill and they'd get stuck, the skiers were going down the hill slaloming around the cars! lol Traffic on 95 was just big white bumps.

I don’t watch this channel that often but god damn. This was a great episode, great history, great music choice, great set of well, everything.

wait... this place is still open?!
I went the day after Memorial Day 2019 and back then was wondering how Towne Mall Galleria was still open.
I know right!? This mall has been empty like this for years, idk how they keep the lights on..
CBL properties owns W. County Center in Des Peres Missouri I didn’t know that until recently lol
Nice video
I remember the roaring 80’s The malls were so crowded, Now a mall on a weekend is empty ,eventually they will be Gone,,

Hey I grew here, can I ask what entrance you used. I’ve always wanted to enter this mall
It appears there are no stores open in this mall, I wonder why it is still open?
At least the plants are in good condition.
The security guard probably had no problem with you filming because at least you were a person in the mall.
So mall was supposely closed but door still open very weird
you should go to towne west sqaure wichita ks
Was anything at all open in there? Didn't look like it.
When I visited there was absolutely nothing left
It’s been dead for 20 years. It’s been a running joke here for forever
Next up: Miami Valley Centre Mall?
You got it! Congratulations!
that guard :(
I felt so bad for him.. His hope for the mall made me so emotional. I genuinely hope this mall comes back
All I can say about all these dead malls videos, besides sadness and nostalgia is: What a waste 😕
Totally ABANDONED
