I'm doing my minis for the first time this year. I've done about all the same things you listed. However from digital marketing and even contacting past clients there doesn't seem to be any interest. My order of flyers just came in so that might have some more success. But how do you market and increase bookings? Luckily I only need one to make this profitable. But would like this to be a huge hit.

I recently received an email from a potential client inquiring if I was planning on doing fall minis this year. I have considered trying it but as a new photographer, I feel like I want to build up my education on the subject before I just go out there and "wing it." Coincidentally, you posed this video on the EXACT subject! I responded to the email that I would like to host minis, but I have not begun to advertise for them yet. I went on to say that I would let her know when I have more info but in the meantime, here is my full session pricing. She responded that a full session was out of her price range which was why she was asking for a mini. She has reached out to several other photogs in the area and they are already booked full for fall minis. Knowing a mini session is not really a "discounted" session, but also wanting to bring in new clients, I feel like I should price in the range you advise against. Most others in my area price their sessions at $175 for 15-20 minutes and 5 images. Did you start lower and work your way up? Thanks again!! Cassie
It’s super important that you price at a profitable rate according to your Cost of Doing Business (CODB). Typically I’ve seen the lowest people can charge while still being profitable is $150 for 5 images and up-sell the rest from there.
I'm a higher end photographer. My normal sessions start at 500. So I'm testing 300 for the mini. But so far there haven't been any interest. I'm also a somewhat newer photographer with 2 years under the lens cap. So still building my influence and a lot of my clients are from out of state being that I live in a tourist heavy town. So marketing to previous clients has also been difficult.
I put a HUGE, obnoxious watermark across my images that has my logo and “DO NOT SCREENSHOT” across the whole thing. Works like a charm! My gallery delivery system, Shootproof, has the ability to add a watermark automatically when uploading and it removes it when they purchase or download images. Do you leave yourself any buffer time between sessions? Or if you are doing 10 minute sessions, do you only shoot for 8 min to leave room to chat/say bye and hi to the next group?
Nope, I do back-to-back sessions. I shoot for the full 10 minutes, then as we’re walking to my next family I have a short little script I say telling them what to expect next and then send them on their way! They know beforehand that spots are back-to-back and they respect that time well.

Open shade basically means a large area in the shade. Usually next to a tall building, a big tree, something large that is casting a big shadow.
