I use this lens as well as the Tamron 28-200mm. I find between these two lenses, I have the vast majority of what I need covered. I'm saving for a 200-600mm, but that's for different photography. My camera bag only needs space for two lenses. The 28-200 that lives on the A7iv, and this 17-28mm that is nestled beside it. Riding my motorcycle, space is serious consideration, so these two lenses together make up pretty much everything I need. Great review, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Today is my second day with this lens and it is my new favourite. I own several lenses including G, but I never knew how much I needed a proper and reliable wide lens, I feel like I can finally breathe, seriously. The build quality is decent enough and autofocus works perfectly whilst being completely silent. I don't mind not having 16-35 at all, this range is more than enough to make an end to end difference. Quite close focusing distance and f2.8 are also great and worth mentioning. This is my first Tamron lens and I'll be definitely looking out for their new releases.
Just received the same lens this morning to compliment my Sigma 28-70 like yours and I already love it! Also have the Sony a7IV great combination, impossible the beat the value of this lens at the moment I think. Hope sigma is going to produce a similar lens.
Ah what a coincidence! Yes it’s a great combo I think the two lenses compliment each other really well! Would be interesting to see if Sigma produce a similar lens in their Contemporary line of lenses, which could be very good!
Thank you so much for your review! I have a Sony A7 iv and have been looking for a wide angle lens that won’t break my budget. I already have a Tamron 28-209 and love it! I’ve been a little concerned with the narrow zoom range (17-28) of this lens but after listening to your review, I think I’ll rent one to check it out firsthand. Sounds like a great lens! Thanks again 😊
They really are! Affordable, brilliant quality and lightweight. I’d love to see a refresh of this lens as well! They have some tough competition with the likes of Sigma making a new 16-28 F2.8 C so they’d need to up their game even more than usual! (Weather sealing on this lens keeps it ahead of other lenses in this price bracket though!)
If they went to 16mm on the wide angle the diameter size would be wider than 67mm I think? The trio of lenses this lens plus 28-75, and also 70-180 all have 67mm so it’s nice to have one filter lens that can be used in all three lenses. Plus there all in one eco system
Great video!, beautiful town, I just purchased this lens and I absolutely Love! it. It completes my Tamron trinity, the AF with these lenses and Sony cameras is insane!, I've always been a Tamron fan ever since my Nikon & film days. Back in the day, there was no AF, no Ibis, or buttons & switches on lenses, so that doesn't bother me, I hear that Tamron uses plastic, quirky focal lengths, and weird placed zoom & focus rings, so they can keep lenses light & compact. The results are awesome images at affordable prices. Tamron Rocks! have a great day! Peace!
Tamron certainly does rock, they aren’t afraid of doing it a little differently and it certainly works! I love their lenses, they make great stuff! Thanks for supporting the video!
The best wide angle for A7R IV is the Sony FE 14mm f/1.8 GM and it's not even close. I have both, and traded in the Tamron after a week, the difference in sharpness and clarity is absolutely mind blowing. Not even subjective tbh. Big difference in price though!
Hi Lucas 😊 thank you for sharing your review on this lens. I’m interested of this lens for my Sony 7 IV as well. May I ask do you film the bath footage in 4k 30p or 60p?
What lens do you recommend more for UA-cam?, especially for someone who makes talking head videos and who also wants to add some vlog, I'm between the tamron 17 -28 and the samyang 28 - 70, it would be great if you made a comparison, because they both look with excellent quality
For talking head stuff, the 17-28 Tamron. No question. The wider angle brings a more personal connection with your audience and is more versatile. It also works much better in a Vlog style format as well. The 28-70 is great for general shooting. Much more versatile focal length for photos and videos that aren’t taking head. 28 is too tight for vlogs, unless you have massive arms! I haven’t used the Samyang 28-70 but I’d highly recommend the Sigma version. They always have very high quality lenses.
@@LucasJohnsonFaustino I’ve found one for that price, was just checking yt first hence your vid 👌🏾. Expensive all this, my first proper camera a7iv. Got the Sony 35mm and the 24-105 but selling that one for hopefully a 2.8 one
@@LucasJohnsonFaustino great camera, don’t have much to compare it too as only had a zv1 before. Can’t wait to learn and improve though. I’m stuck with what nd filter to get though, get various fixed nd or a VND. If so which one? Recommend any or a vid of ones you use etc?

*also it doesn't change size when changing width, like what more can you ask for especially at this price
It’s absolutely brilliant isn’t it?! I loved using it, definitely want to get one myself! 😊

Tamron is really the king of zoom lenses! They always think a step forward. Hope they make a G2 version of this ( maybe 1628 F2.8)
