Brilliant tournament, i loved everything about it, as an OCE fan i got to ride the Mammoth train for a couple of stops then sit back and watch it all unfold, brilliant music, brilliant plays, brilliant casting, just a shame we didn't get more 5/5 series because I wanted more.

I think the reaction from G2 when they won against SKT was "we can actually win Worlds". The favorites to win the whole thing from the start were always G2, FPX and SKT (there were other strong contenders but these were the strongest), so when G2 had just beat SKT, one of the favorites, they obviously got a confidence boost. I don't think they took the win for granted like they did at MSI against Team Liquid though. But I also think FPX caught them by surprise with how good they were. They were relentless, their pressure was absurd. In the end, G2 players' reaction when they lost the series was "they were better", and they were. FPX at finals were basically a better G2. Some of the players think they need to work on some issues in game and they believe that that made a difference. G2 was never a perfect team, their games were often very messy with a lot of mistakes happening. If they can control that and improve, they can seriously try again next year to win it all.
@elentiya Lmao. You new to esports? Asian fans are by far the most toxic bunch you will ever meet. The only reason you dont know this is because they dont use english.
@@blendon8 To be fair, there were quite a few G2 bandwagoners this year that were obnoxious. But this happens with every team that is at the top. Actual G2 fans took a lot of shit this year too though, with people trying to diminish and discredit G2 for their accomplishments. G2 fans started to gloat every time G2 won just because it was so damn satisfying to see all the haters shut their mouths.
@@fuhbloom Yes atleast they are gone now. Well said, for some reason Asians fans really overdid it this year. Saying how G2 won MSI by luck and how Damwon and SKT will crush them. But allot of western LCK fans aswell.
For some context on the G2 lost (rip): G2 were favorites for the entire tournament with SKT and FPX but after the groups stages FPX were shaking so none really thought they could do it, unfortunatly none knew that in scrims (team vs team games to train) FPX were beating the living s**t out of every other team but SKT who was beating everyone. When G2 won vs SKT (that they knew was the strongest team in training sessions) they thought they had it, but at the same time FPX knew they were favorites. A lot of caster and LoL personalities commented on this already but the chines playstyle is a direct counter to the european one. It's a bold statement but SKT probably had a better chance vs FPX and if they would have passed instead of G2 that was probably an easy win for SKT. Unfortunatly SKT did not face FPX so we'll never know. Great reaction as always, gg.
Scrim results is not really a good indicator of how strong a team will be on stage, this was proven time and time again. Damwon was a team that was scary in scrims and G2 had a hard time against them but they still won 3-1. FPX plays super aggressive like G2 and I think that was the first team they faced internationally this year that had a similar playstyle to them. FPX just instantly suffocated G2 with their immense pressure, something that G2 is known for. G2 was suddenly on the other side and it feels like they didn't know how to deal with it. In the end G2 were favored over FPX because their road to finals was WAY harder, but most people genuinely thought that this could go either way just because these two teams were so similar. I don't think SKT would've done much better than G2, to be honest. At finals, FPX was essentially a better G2.
@@fuhbloom I kinda agree and kinda disagree: DWG was famous for scrims but they never played in the same way on stage as G2 and DWG said in post games interview, kinda the same for SKT considering they lost 3-1 too. On the possible maybe idk alternative ending with SKT (that doesnt really matter) a lot of people are on the "SKT would have won" boat, is kinda like pokemon but here Chine counters Europe that counters Korea that counters China. The only 2 teams that did not respect this thing are GRF losing vs FPX (but Griffin is famous for playing like europeans) and RNG vs FNC (but Royal is famous for playing more like koreans). I know that this is a oversemplification but you may bet my point.
@@3vs891 Based on what does SKT have a better chance? Usually SKT doesn't pressure you mid game if you do that against FPX you will lose. Also G2 draft 1 and 2 were really bad. Draft 3 was the best by far . If they drafted like that it would be allot closer.
@@blendon8 agree on the drafts, but game 3 was a stop as well tbh. I'm not saying they would win tough. Faker being too opressive for DoinB doesn't make sence because Caps was able to roam against Faker every time. League at the highest level isn't 1 V 1 pure laning anymore if the match up allows him to roam he will roam and nobody can stop him. I mostly agree with you but I don't see this angle of SKT being able to beat FPX with their mid game being so bad but yea nobody can prove this.
Don't let anyone tell you that FPX is by any means weak team and G2 lost because they disrespected them. Especially when we know that scrims went actually more in FPX favour and G2 through whole summer split have been talking that China is the best region. G2 and FPX are two best teams and what differs them even more from the others is that both have their unique playstyle. G2 are more versatile and overall have better players on most positions, but FPX style actually hard counters G2. If there was one team which could defeat them, it was FPX. G2 are playing extremely greedy playstyle, they play whole map at the same time, they gave as little resources to jungle as possible to maximize sidelenes, with jungle and support operating great in a fog of war, being constant threat. FPX are the best team to play half of the map, move as a unit and they are the only one good enough in this to actually punish G2 greed to such an excent that they will lose. And they also are 2nd (after G2) or 3rd (after FNC) best team to understand fog of war and how to operate in it, which normally gives G2 huge advantage. Their style is extremely risky, they or win or look really bad. Nothing in between
@@Vendrix86 No its not arrogance drafting is part of a team performance. We saw allot of bad drafts by all teams including FPX. Why do you think Splyce Beat FPX almost twice?
