What's wrong with spiritual gurus being rich? - Sadhguru answers Nalsar student

  • -is spirituality a rich person’s area?
    -why are we so poor?
-In early days mystics were individuals
who meditated and were in penance in forests, now we see a lot of mystic individuals who have huge foundations, who have companies.
-is this a healthy trend ?
-most people’s idea of a mystic is the Sivakasi calendar
-gurus were always around the kings not because of their palaces, because of their concern - unless the one who rules
transforms himself, there will be no benefit
    for the people.

India was rich not because of spirituality, u r confusing business sense with spirituality, one who is spiritual is beyond earthly things like wealth, India was rich because it controlled the global economic value chain, british destroyed that chain and we are where we are

It takes money to run foundations & to meet the needs that present themselves. It takes money to buy food, it takes money to pay electricity invoices, it takes money for housing, it takes money to reach out to others in a substantial way. It takes money to to pay wages, it takes money for fuel etc. etc. etc. You cannot compartmentalize a human without consequences. We see the separation of a person into all these compartments, we are broken into pieces & see ourselves as distinctly having different aspects of ourselves. My spiritual self as being separated from my physical self, & separated from my sexual self & separated from my mental self & separated from my financial self which is also separated from my emotional self. We think of ourselves as 6 or more separate units, instead of embracing ourselves as a whole person who is united spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, sexually, & financially. No wonder we are splintered & questing, we need to gather ourselves up & embrace all of ourselves as one being. This includes finances. All workers are worthy of their keep, & more so when they are helping to keep others fed, nourished, educated, housed, empowered & motivated. None attachment is the key, having something is not wrong, desiring with no end may be unadvised but being unable to release it where needed will bring suffering to all.I think if he has money, uses it wisely to help where it is needed by releasing it for use, it may then be wise & empowerment & help to others not just himself. There is a cost to everything in this life. It is the same here, however, we do not have as many spiritual teachers to call on.

As a non-Indian, I find it fascinating listening to these conversations. Maybe Spiritual Leaders can create wealth if they intend to put that wealth to good use. Getting rich for yourself and your own, personal, gain is far from Spiritual in my opinion. This is the issue I have with American Gurus corpretizing and busnessizing - not proper words but you get the point - spirituality all the time. The problem is, of course, you will get wrapped up in your wealth and cease being spiritual after a while, naturally.
    Namaste. My Best. Out.

My grandmother, she was orphaned at a young age, at 4 or 5 age. she didn't have her mother or father. she worked her entire life, living a poor, below the poverty line life. struggling for daily wages. struggling to feed her 6 sons. But in that hardship, she never swayed away from her path of spirituality. She always believed it. And her children worked hard. harder. and now we live a better standard of life which comes close to being described as rich. I was once a blind atheist than an agnostic and now a believer on my own path. My grandmother never questioned any of my beliefs but she always said I will find my calling.
Being rich or poor has nothing to do with spirituality. My grandmother never lost hers in her 50 years of misery living a poor harsh life. Its what makes INDIANS stronger
True spirituality will teach you the way of life. Will teach you how to live life not just attain Mukti. I hope everyone of us find ourselves in this journey. love to all - - Karthik

a good teacher, does not make fun of ignorant young students and is not overbearing and does not laugh at them! Sadhguru was also young and ignorant once! Besides, this man says a lot, but he does not know everything! He talks a lot as the day is long and is just so powerful and meaningful, through his followership! A man is only as powerful as his followers let him be? Why are young people who follow him, killed by his organization, when their parents, desperate to have their children back?

I'd like to add my two cents worth to the issue raised.
    1. In my view, the difference between India and the rest of the world is that India is a historically spiritual country and still is, despite going into a materialistic tail spin. Other countries are evolving towards spirituality at different speeds. It's not too difficult to see this. Per capita, India has the greatest number of mystics, occultists, and spiritual aspirants of many different traditions. But I believe that Nature is now distributing spirituality more equitably across the world. Everybody knows about yoga and yogis, even the bushmen or the aborigine living in the forest. It won't be long before the spiritual wave knocks on every door awakening the masses.
    2. The difference between spirituality and materialism is non-existent in reality. It's just being used for convenience. Spirituality is an attitude. If you apply a spiritual attitude to running, eating, working or to any other activity or object, that is spirituality in essence.
    3. Science and the best minds in science are slowly coming around to close the gap between science and spirituality. Now, the latest hypothesis is that the vast physical universe looks more like a thought or a hologram. That was always the view of Indian spirituality, both of the Vedic and Tantric traditions.

    • @DecepticonLeader
      @DecepticonLeader 5 років тому

      1. I think the materialisic tail spin is mainly because of convenience as you stated in your comment. We have better standards and modern tools which people in ancient times didn't have. Same with our infrastructure and other features of modern society. So I think it's more about people being less poor rather than more materialistic.
And yes I agreee, people all over the world are trying to find a spiritual connection. It's needed. I see so many kids who are confused, depressed and without direction/purpose.
      2. I fully agree.
      3. Yes, it's quite fascinating how a completely materialistic approach to reality such as science still predict something similar to that of spiritual teachings.

Can't say about others but the 3rd point, whole Bigbang theory, Origin of time is Metaphysical, just an idea for today's science. Very much similar to what ancient Indian Vedic, Maharshis propagated in the form of Rituals and Astrology

best thing about Sadguru is he talks most of the times simple common-sense put in a fantastic way. And sometimes he speaks beyond common-sense. The problem with few individuals are who listen to him is that they fail to put things in a simpler way. Think rational. The more you argue, it is end of the day you banging your head against the wall. He being intellect. You being in a state of confusion. He (Sadguru) clear, sharp and focused.
We have here one teacher. There are students who score best and become toppers. And there going to be few who blame, college, school, teachers, and never can score good marks with the same system and same teachers. Oh yea disrespectful to the teachers. So cant help !

Very good question. I m not against sadhguru but this question is correct. If u have to work 12 18 hrs u don't get enough time to follow these spiritual gurus. Once yr basic needs r sorted thn u look for other options. But if u r struggling to fulfill basic needs u wudnt even think about yoga, spiritual this and that. Btw I m wondering is it free to stay in Isha home?

The cost of inner engineering programs are very less. I have paid. Only 2500 rs. People will get 100% benefit from it. Their life will be changed. Swami Vivekanand says "Spiritual help is the biggest help".
If somebody gives us spiritual knowledge, if someone trains us in spiritual path, we should pay him lots of money because that's the biggest help we received in life. We should be grateful to him.
Isha programs are cheap and there are always people who are not serious during the teaching. Paying fees is a good practice.

I may have misunderstood it but what the young man tried to say is 'how can we give the poor more time

Same problem as after the Sovjet fell, some very rich people were established some fell even deeper into poverty.
