- This is my After Action Report of Dragon's latest Panther kit. This is the one off V2 prototype, but the kit is just a slightly modified version of the 2002 Panther D kit. I will be writing a full write up on Armorama of this build, but if I were you, I certainly would not pay full price for this. This is a pretty lame cash grab.
Adam, I just back into modeling German tanks after a long lay off. When I
was looking for reference videos, I came across one that used the
techniques listed in Rinaldi's tank book #1. Specifically the hair spray
technique. I know you use Pledge, but would you have any idea who put
that build and paint video out. I currently have
about 20 of your video's and used your video on which Tiger 1's to
build. Thanks for your help.
Thanks you a lot. Today you have saved from from spending €33.85 for this kit, which is still way too much according to your 2 reviews from 6 years ago!
Check out tankbrusher. He created a 3d print set to upgrade the later rebox of this horrible kit.
I agree with you Adam about "cash grab" principle that dragon applies now with their kits. I miss their old kit with a bunch of goodies...
They did have some wonderful kits. And the great thing is they are still available on ebay.
i kinda expected that you smash the model at the end of the video with a sledgehammer or something in order to "intensify" your points about the kit :)
Damn it I wish I would have.
What a disaster (the kit that is). The new Tamiya Panther kit is terrific (IMHO) so I would recommend it. Thanks for the review.
I plan to get that Tamiya Panther D with all the goodies. Did you build it?
I love the Tamiya Panther D. Goes together like a dream and has great detail. Will be interested to hear what you think of it. I did not buy any of the goodies, just straight out of the box.
What the hell Dragon you can produce amazing kits and you do this
Tamiya Panther D for the win no lazy engineering in sight
Lee, I have the new Tamiya Panther Ausf D also. However, I have read the commander cupola is missing an interior, or is hollow, and incorrect. Know anything about this? Thanks for your time.
Hi well if you wanted to be 100% correct I would add the armored glass blocks behind the vision holes inside the cupola :)
tamiya is rubbish dude...they've never heard of hollow guide horns...even in their aftermarket quote 'accurately reproduced for absolute realism' unquote separate track links, which i may add cost me nz40 dollars...they are the laziest company in existence.
jason p at least you can buy 3 tamiya kits and get change from £100, unlike dragon.
I would like to see your opinion on m2, m16 and so on half-tracks. Really aroused my interest lately, and they haven't been re-released.
I don't know those kits Mitko, but if I see one I'll tell you straight away,
After years of experience just for this.
Hello there, I actually wanted to ask how you feel about the Panther G late with steel roadwheels, 6370.
It's my first Dragon Smart kit for 30 bucks and wanted to know if it's any good.
Very good kit. All of the Dragon Panther G kits are a newer tooling. Highly recommended. Great subject too as those steel wheeled G's were involved in the Battle of the Bulge.
Thanks for the review A.D. Bad on Dragon.
Agreed.
Excellent review Adam....I'll avoid that kit like the plague! 👌👍👏
yes, do that.
A good to the points or deficiencies of this kit....when you say "old" panther, did you mean the original D?
To me, the new Tamiya kit is better.
Yes I mean the Panther D kit from 2002, kit number 6164.
Dragon just released an announcement about an upcoming release of this panther with most of the short comings like the angle of the rear of the side plates corrected.
I'm not sure if that's what it is, but it looks that way.
this is why I watch your channel. I want to know what to get, and what's shit. that wouldn't even make a good parts kit. wow Dragon must need money for karaoke. cause there not spending the money on there company, great video Adam as always.
Thanks so much for this compliment Clayton. And frankly subscribers like you that comment all the time and see value in my stuff is why I make it.
Wish dragon would do something we wanna see like a 1/35 Panther A late with pre-moulded Zimmerit...
Agreed. I don't know why they molded a D with ZImmerit and not an A. Also though just a new tool of a Panther A/D would sell really well.
As far as i'm aware only the last few Ausf.D and some rebuilds got it. And a Zimmerit Ausf.G was even weirder a choice as only the Ausf.G produced within the first couple months got it. Only something like 20 or 30 early Ausf.A left the factory without it. Massive oversight for dragon and a potential massive seller.
Good solid no BS review, thanks.
That's the only way I do them.
This and the previous video review are excellent and thorough. And cost Dragon a sale, life is too short and there are far too many good kits out there to waste time with a lemon. Pity, it would have looked nice next to Amusing Hobby ' s Panther prototype.
I totally agree. Dragon could be making great kits but they are choosing to try and take advantage of us. I am optimistic about the new VK 36.01 kit they're putting out.
Oh, dragon, dragon... What is wrong with you? Thanx for video, Adam
My pleasure. Unknown if Dragon will let companies like RFM and Takom just steam roll them out of the model game. Seems that way.
Reminds me of the m103 kit , total garbage. I went with the ICM panther D due to price. Glad I did after seeing your vid.
this kit has some serious issues. i feel your pain. and those tracks......uggggggh ! dragon i hope you're watching ! we deserve better than this for what you're charging us for these kits ! shame on you. sorry adam, but i just had to let that out. thanks for the heads up on this kit. :)
You are most welcome. It seems Dragon may be learning with the announcement of the KT rerelease. At least it has PE and Magic Tracks.
considering the fact that you can find the old panther D for less than half the price of this kit makes this kit a disgrace to scale modelling
Sounds like a typical Dragon build. Ugh, Takom needs to start making some German armor.
Brett Bricker Dragon does make good kits but they can sometimes be the worst
Good review. You will need an aftermarket cannon im afraid. The DS its horrible in did.
Thank you so much for the video. I WAS going to buy this piece of junk.
My thoughts as well. Replace the tracks and barrel at least. The modifications are awful, but the tracks and barrel are garbage.
It's a shame about Dragon's newer kits. It's almost as if they don't care about the quality of their releases and are just doing it for the money now.
That seems to be the case.
Well that's pretty disgusting....
Thanks for the video/warning!
You know it. Stupid Dragon.
Shame on Dragon !
agreed.
building one as I watch this and building is the wrong word, more like nailing the thing together. for the money, it's not special
It's like getting a colnoscopy
@@AdamMann3D lol, I'm with you there. It could have been so much better. I've got the updated version and looking at other reviews around the kit, I think the sloped lower rear plate issue is worse. It's like paying big money for a poor resin conversion kit from the 80s. They've even managed to leave out the number plate decal on the re-release. No positioning marks for the engine hatch vents although they are now with the fixed "wings" and not the handles, the gun lock guard is still too wide, the kafuffle with the barrel, (just why?), still no secondary mudflaps and weld seams Dragon, some would be nice please. At least there is the flat box machine gun flap now plus the initial exhaust even though the rear plate is a dogs dinner. I'm all for modelling skills believe me, but when I have 25 Panthers of varying versions including an all resin Bergepanther, this unfortunately is turning into the most disappointing and TBH poorest value for money. I would rather have a proper Turret top, (no holes to fill, a single base for the front lift hooks), given that it is a new mould for the kit. Makes me fancy getting a 3D printer to make the parts to go on the Zvezda kit. Takom have a really big hole to fill if they so desire, the first 5 Panthers, plus Panther II.
