What fond memories of been South Africa’s 80cc supercross champion flying to the states to compete in selected Golden state nationals while having a US holiday and attending this Anaheim season opener. Got all new gear from chaparral San Bernardino Helmet custom painted by Troy Lee and parts from Pro circuit ( still in La Palm ave then). What an experience the whole trip. Loved every thing about the US . Was a dream
Glad you had a good time here when it was a better racing and a better nation. Heck,---when it was a better world. I bet it would have even been better 10 years earlier in 79. Hope all is well. Doug in Michigan.
2:48 Watching the 2 smoothest riders in the world in battle (Bayle and Lechien), must have been a real thrill. I would love to have a recording compilation of every time those 2 guys banged bars.
David Bailey was done, so that would have made that easier. Stanton was on a competitive mission, enough to also prove to be the best in the world, (Fun Fact showing the health of the sport: Michigan, a once strong state churning out top pro competition, 2nd to CA.) has not put out a factory rider since Kelly Smith over 20 years ago.). And if Bayle did not leave, he might have dominated for the next 3 years since 91. Still, Johnson is the subject and you would not be wise to bet against him. Could have been several more years of that competition. We missed a lot of good racing.
2:21 I can't believe Damon Bradshaw blipped the throttle 3 or 4 times before he landed on the fender of that downed Honda. That caused his rear end to drop so low, he had to bail. If he did not do that, he probably could have rode that one out. That was odd to see from a pro. I guess he panicked.
The Suzuki broke down more than once for Johnny O'Mara. Bummer. That looked to be a good battle with him and RJ in the very near future of that race. Suzuki should have kept Roger.
Johnny O show O'Mara would have won that race if that RM250 Didn't grenade itself before the end of the race What an awesome group of racers back then the rider was the main component of success back then. Now it's an accessory

This is the only AMA Supercross I've been to in person, during our visit to the States in 89. Thanks for posting!!!

1989///I was fifteen years old and i want to go back to those better times///this is true motocross all 2 stroke bikes
Its a shame Ricky Johnson career got cut short in its prime he would won numerous more national titles including the 89 Supercross title

I was there...TY for posting. We took some random girls we met the week earlier we met at the outdoor marketplace in Costa Mesa.
Even in ‘89 the tracks had no flow....just chaotic obstacle courses that made riders look slow. It’s amazing how it’s progressed since.
RJ would have dominated the 89 season if didnt have the freak accident at Gainesville motocross.
Super Cool👍 Thanks for posting!!
That hay bale that Bayle landed on was totally on the race track by like 3 feet.
I was there. Great race. I wish micky Diamond would of won
The Honda/Decoster domination era.
Romping stomping ditchdigging dragons 🐉 😍 👌 ♥
I think this was after Johnson broke his wrist. Good ride.
Thank you!
Interesting to watch a race involving Jeremy McGrath and not have him mentioned once. Granted, it was his debut and he got 11th.
Wow and A1 just past this year

If anything it looked like it might have helped him..
Look how smooth that landing/slide was, coulda
been a lot worse.
Gotta bring back Bradshaws tiger stripe pants!
My amateur ama number was 747 at this time on my KX 80

GO RJ !!!!
J M B. ate shit hard over the triples. Landed on that hay bale. Hahaha. This was an exciting race
2 stroke noise 🎶
RJ was my fave...Stanton was mentored by him.
RIP Mike. jab?
WHAT HAPPENED TO OMARA BIKE
Frame broke
That suspension is so soft, it would be considered trail riding suspension by todays standards.
You're dangerous
Johnny O show O'Mara would have won that race if that RM250
Didn't grenade itself before the end of the race

Now it's an accessory
I heard the frame broke on O'Mara's bike when he came up short on the previous jump. His bike looks raked out in the front.
@@ryanlester761 I heard the same thing check out pulpMX. Com
Classic Steel #79
If, If, If your Aunt had Balls She Would Be Your Uncle !!!
My 89 Rm250 gave me a severe left knee injury and a permanently dislocated right shoulder. No regrets, I’d probably have another one
